Chambray and wool... the new black?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:05 PM) :

Lovin the great use of color!

Anonymous polkadot lover said ... (7:08 PM) :

Normally, I hate denim-on-denim, but I love the use of accessories and color that sort of cover it up. So confident and stylish!

Blogger Iyengar's Impetus said ... (7:12 PM) :

I like those shades, Red sweater, and the whole look!

Blogger a reference said ... (7:15 PM) :

i love seeing this 50s college boy look that is slowly rising. i hope this is what the 2010s will be about!

Anonymous Yokoo said ... (7:17 PM) :

Scott did you happen to find out where this sweater is from? Also, I bought your book a couple of weeks back and I must say it's one of the best purchases I've made in a long time! I love your work.

Blogger Kathy Lu Yan said ... (7:18 PM) :

Way too cute! Home sweet home LES!

A creative gentleman.

Blogger Ljubica said ... (7:37 PM) :

great sweater.
great shoes.
great look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:37 PM) :

Great composition and color-palette, of the photo, that is.

The gentleman's choice of attire however, is questionable: What not to wear? Perhaps if he tucked in his shirt and unroll his jeans, AND did not wear those socklettes with is top-siders...?

Blogger Soren Lorensen said ... (7:44 PM) :

This is super fine

I would have worn red socks to macth the cardigan...but not everyone is that into sock-related humour

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:56 PM) :

isn't he wearing a girl jacket ?

Blogger Jon Jon Wesolowski said ... (7:57 PM) :

I don't know what qualification I have to disagree with the satorialist, but this isn't that snazzy to me. Yes, nice and unique cardigan, but does it go with the rolled up pants? Ray bands are overused, and the rolled up pants bring attention to shoes I don't think are that unusual. They could be jcrew dock-sides for all I know. And the socks look like too-big no-socks. I think the pants, and how they fit, mostly throw everything off. everything is loose, attention is taken to the feet. I don't like.

Blogger Style Scanner said ... (7:59 PM) :

Too short for trousers - too long for shorts?

Blogger Brett Johnson said ... (8:05 PM) :

He looks good, weather-appropriate

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:05 PM) :

The pants are looking pretty cool. And nice emphasis with that cardigan.

Blogger sarawithoutanh said ... (8:08 PM) :

Ankle socks with top-siders? Not a fan of that, but I love the exaggerated lines of the cardigan.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:09 PM) :

Waist up, like it. Waist down, not so much. Although the shoes go great, the rolled up pants make him look skinnier and shorter. Albeit the colors are great. He wears nautical well.

Anonymous Christian said ... (8:20 PM) :

A mix of several styles here...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 PM) :

I can't see anything creative or stylish about this guy's look.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:44 PM) :

I don't know quite how I feel about this. Side part, goatee, Wayfarers, Deck shoes, denim shirt, high waters, and grandpa cardigan. That's a lot to take in! And it is possible that he just got off a boat!

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:49 PM) :

K that's an awesome cardigan

Like his style . . . and his vintage camera. Also really appreciate your composition in this shot. The stripes on the road and the geometry of the building are a great backdrop.

Blogger Beverly. said ... (10:46 PM) :

I don't comment often, but this man's outfit is phenomenal. I love the contrast...and of course, Wayfarers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 PM) :

The Bright Red Shawl Collar Cardigan sings when contrasted with the Blue Denim shirt. What has two thumbs and approves of this look? (Points at myself with thumbs) This guy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 PM) :

I love the use of contrasting color.
And the shoes!

Blogger K said ... (12:46 AM) :

I'd hang out with this guy. He looks content and confident. Key ingredients to rocking an unconventional look. Great camera, great cardigan.

Blogger Molly said ... (12:48 AM) :

perfect...the juxtaposition of the graphic windows & the billowing sweater is amazing. great shot. love it!

Blogger Ash said ... (12:55 AM) :

NICE!
i usually don't like denim
but that red sweater really accentuates everything.
denim doesnt look boring at all in this case.

i also like how the pants are rolled up...i dont noe...it gives me this really cool feeling...like walking with a cool mood on an autumn day :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 AM) :

This guy looks like a total fashion victim to me.
I mean, come on....absurd, unflattering combo.
And if one is going to go 'sockless' then dont let your black 'sockless socks' show out of the tops of one's shoes.

Oh and BTW: THE YANKEES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES !!

RJT

Blogger Robyn said ... (1:08 AM) :

The bright red of the coat really help the rest of the outfit pop, I think~

Blogger Dannie said ... (1:22 AM) :

What a nice coat, he looks great and chic! Very modern and refreshed!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:26 AM) :

Anyone can identify which model is the camera ? Thanks

Blogger Thomas said ... (1:28 AM) :

I really enjoy this look. He is pulling it off. Not everyone could but I love it!

Blogger Nick Leonard said ... (1:45 AM) :

I like the sunglasses and capris.

Blogger Spardha Malik said ... (1:56 AM) :

This outfit is rather simple... and i think the main accessories here oughta be the wayfarers and the camera! The attitude with which he's walking down the street... ah, that makes for a perfect picture.
Also, I love the Cardi!!

Blogger the nickel fit said ... (2:09 AM) :

i want to like this look as i've seen similar, yet subtler coats (ala theory apollo) but the excessive accessories, mixed with the overly cuffed jeans and socked dock shoes all brew a sense of desperation.

it's quite unfortunate, as i do appreciate the coat's silhouette. just don't overdo it with the extra knick knacks and we're set.

in new york especially where contrivance, usually showcased by tourists yet still cringed by many locals, less can still be more.

Blogger Brittany said ... (2:20 AM) :

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:22 AM) :

99.9% Sure the shoes are A.P.C.'s caramel boat shoes. Nice.

Blogger Jenn said ... (2:38 AM) :

love the sweater but don't love the hiked up dirty looking pants.

Blogger @anonymous said ... (2:58 AM) :

He looks great, like wayfarer in the big city - NYC.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 AM) :

The perfect fall combination - turn up jeans, loafers, and a nice chunkie cardie. Possibly one of the last chances he'll get to wear this outfit in NYC this year.

Anonymous f o d said ... (6:58 AM) :

nice cardi and shoes but something is wrong with his overall look. maybe he's stylish but he's overdoing it.

i think....

1. the jeans is rolled up too high.
2. socks should be hidden or no socks.
3. the shirt looks a lil too big and long. he could have tuck it in.

Blogger Ben Orooji said ... (8:25 AM) :

As others have said the composition of the photo is sublime.

Shoes are great, glasses are ok, and the use of color admirable. The gentleman's style, however, is not in my taste. The sweater is distasteful, the presence alone of the socks is off-putting, and the color seems more of an afterthought. Denim on denim is hard to pull off and I'm afraid he doesn't do it well. Top button fastened and rolled up jeans? It's just odd - and in a bad way. The vintage camera does make me smile, although I hope it is intended for use and not as a necklace.

Blogger uhuhuhjn said ... (9:37 AM) :

nice red cardigan, loving it lol.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:15 AM) :

His outfit looks awful. The sweater looks like on made for a woman. He is wearing a denim shirt, with denim pants. And what is up with him rolling his pants up like they are capris. Women wear capris. not men!

Blogger tina said ... (10:22 AM) :

One would have to be extremely confident to try to pull off this look... or just not own a mirror. It's interesting.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:32 AM) :

it's exaggerated. not a big fan. isn't it actually denim and wool. looks like a wrangler or levis denim under the sweater. needs to drop the trousers and pair with boots not new age boat shoes

Anonymous Holly said ... (10:41 AM) :

I perfer topsiders with rolled up or cropped pants it just goes with the scheme. They were first fashioned for boating and I think he has the right idea! Every piece he has on could be a staple in my wardrobe!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 AM) :

Love the general attitude and the roll-up jeans, but... what about the socks?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:41 AM) :

not a fan of this look....we get it! you're freelance and oh-so interesting!

stuuunninggg. i love his shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:29 PM) :

I am not thrilled about the pairing of the denims with the red sweater, the sweater fabric, the rolled up jeans or the shoes in any combination...

But what bothers me most about this photograph is this man's posture. Even if I don't like the outfit, to me he is also not wearing it with any kind of style - I mean to say that there is nothing in his being, the way he walks or the expression on his face (plus the backpack, ugh) that exudes a confidence needed for this "quirky whole foods" look... Instead I see "awkward high school ceramics teacher."

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

Okay on a girl.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:51 PM) :

If you start to analyse the outfit can go downhill quickly - yet, it brings a quick smile to my face and a fresh hint of fall.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:35 PM) :

whats up with the Ray Ban glasses,
they are everywhere like the swine flu???? i mean these glasses are everywhere !...it really shows that were really a bunch of SHEEP!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 PM) :

Not for me.

Blogger kiki said ... (1:24 PM) :

the camera is awesome! canon G10!!!

Blogger Jason Wednesday Miller said ... (3:48 PM) :

I appreciate the individuality of his outfit but it doesn't quite work. makes for a nice photograph yes, but not a good outfit.

The red cardigan, denim shirt, and cuffed pants clash too much in their uniqueness. a different shirt (possibly light blue or some other light color) and maybe roll the pants down just a little and it could work.

I don't mind the ankle socks so much, just need to change their color, black isn't working.

Blogger rockstarbabu said ... (6:41 AM) :
