Those pants make me cringe. Sure it is a good photo, but the women's style is questionable.

Anonymous Well Done Blog said ... (11:06 AM) :

Are you making a statement regarding these damn cute striped boat shirts??? I have been looking all over for one.. I think you are teasing me, sartorialist.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:32 PM) :

Awesome...those blue shoes !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:40 PM) :

Oh my, those green pants do not do this slender lady any justice... bleghk. And the blue shoes are a bit trashy, sorry to say it. I much prefer the sweaters and the other two women's outfits, especially the black heels behind the blue shoes and the blond's beaded purse.

Scott,
Could you burin in the pants on the left? We can't tell if they are also shiny, plain cotton, denim, or something else. For fields of black its nice to have some context.

Anonymous Lucia said ... (2:08 PM) :

I've been looking for a striped sweater this season, but haven't found the right one yet, and I want a pair of green trousers too. And suddenly they are here on your blog. Nice work Scott!
I love the blue shoes too. Those woman really got a look I like a lot. Simple, classic, with an edgy accent.
Thanks.

Blogger Jenn said ... (2:16 PM) :

I love the olive-ish colored pants. I also love the body in them! I would so buy them if they looked like that on me!

The studded purse with the leather pants is a classic female rebel look and I am partial to that too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:23 PM) :

i like the horizontal striped top

Anonymous diamondgem said ... (2:31 PM) :

I have that sweater... it's a cardigan from h&m!

Are they twins?

@ MaisonChaplin.blogspot.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:43 PM) :

I live in England and oh my god everyone owns that striped jumper or shirt!seriously!Hence I don't really see the 'personal style' or whatever scott looks for reflected in this photo...

Blogger J. Magdalena said ... (2:44 PM) :

One of them could have at least worn a skirt, if they knew the other was planning on wearing the same top. Otherwise, this is silly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:07 PM) :

Great street shot. Do you always ask to take their picture or do you stop, click and move on?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:08 PM) :

those pants are harrible but the tops on both are cute

Blogger H said ... (3:32 PM) :

Something unappealing about this. The two women might as well be part of a team in charge of handing out fliers. It almost cheapens the Breton shirt as with anything that's over-saturating the streets. I'm sure they're not too happy about it either.

Blogger Chantelle {fat mum slim} said ... (3:32 PM) :

I'd love to be a fly in the wall when they first met up. Unless it was intentional, then I'd love to see bystanders as they walk on by.

I loooove the black sandals..... they would be perfect for ME!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:10 PM) :

Stripes again.
*sigh* It's going to be a long season.

Perhaps these girlies will now learn not to jump at the latest fashion fad as soon as it is born?
I know I would hate it if my best friends and I would turn at a place wearing the exact item of clothing, especially if it is one that it has to do with the latest fad.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:18 PM) :

Is that Anna Dello Russo?

Anonymous phyllis said ... (4:35 PM) :

Like I always say, great minds think alike!

Blogger Catherine said ... (4:37 PM) :

It reminds me of grade school when I would call my friends to coordinate outfits.

I really like that you can see the same sweater from 2 different angles. Cool photo!

Anonymous Hannah said ... (4:38 PM) :

I have been looking for that exact sweater for ages! This is torture!

Blogger Christina Song said ... (4:52 PM) :

Blogger Rosalind said ... (4:57 PM) :

Certainly gives the word identical new meaning! Out of the two though, I much prefer the lady on the right with the black trousers. I think somehow she makes the top look a lot more chic, and plus I love her taste in footwear! Those blue shoes are really gorgeous, kind of a geeky retro look.
Its certainly an interesting post in which to compare the styles.

I love those strippy sweaters. Such a fresh look.

Blogger Whimsy said ... (5:24 PM) :

Ooh, it's been at least a decade since I last saw a pair of synthetic cargo pants with a faux Oriental symbol embroidered on the seat! Great photo, and I love the tops, shoes and hair, but I just can't love those pants!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:34 PM) :

Style is so-so according to me. What I'd like to see is the face of the blonde - what gorgeous hair! It's rare to see thick blonde hair.

Anonymous Michelle said ... (7:03 PM) :

Those blue shoes are pretty awesome.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:44 PM) :

Oooh, you just gotta love those stripes! Where can you get one of those?? I've one in deep blue and with a bow :D

Anonymous John M. Doyle said ... (7:52 PM) :

While it may be a singular observation (and an eccentric one, no doubt) the first thing that entered my mind when I saw this shot was that it reminded me of a Joan Mitchell painting I saw at the Albright-Knox Gallery last summer. This is clearly one of those great instances where many of us who are viewing this shot are reading it in myriad ways. Some of the commentary has focused on the garments themselves, while others have commented on the setup of the photo. Really, what matters is how the two things work together to create a tableau upon which we can project our own thoughts. This is the wonderful and artful dialogue between the language of clothing and the reading of that language that propels fashion to be born, die and then be reborn again.

LOVE this images so much: Your images of these individuals' back are always my favorites, whether they be of someone walking away, or like this one. They take the casual snapshot to another level; one that reminds me of the sweet anonymity of the works of Magritte, Cartier-Bresson and Jean-Charles Blaise.

I don't think these are the same tops though... If you look closely, the woman on the right's top flares out slightly at the hem, and there's what looks like shoulder pads. The woman on the left's top is lacking both of these. Similar color and stripe size can be misleading.

I love how people in Europe dress up. When I moved to States, at first,- It was shocking. American freedom is in everything, including outfit. Sometimes it feels like people forget to dress up in a morning and just go straight outside, without noticing that they are in underwear or sleeping pants.

Those girls on a picture look Hot, dressed up with fashion. I love the picture.
