From My Seat at the Cafe, Paris

To the Right

Parisian service - pleading for food seems more typical than ordering.

Center
Garance being silly in her new Max Mara coat.

To the Left

And behind me Vivienne Westwood waiting to get a table outside while Yasmin Sewell, Robert Rabensteiner, and Lara Stone (to name a few) pass in and out of the doors as we all wait for the Dries Van Noten show.

Although I never really had any issues with the service when in Paris:)

Anonymous DeeDee said ... (10:17 AM) :

Sart, I have a question - when you and Garance are out together and you spot an interesting subject, do the two of you squabble over who gets to take their picture? I like to think it's a fun competition for you both!

Also, just picked up your book and I love, love, love it. Congratulations.

Mlle. Garance's coat is just perfect, always beautiful.
It goes to prove that personality is far more important when it comes to make fashion worth.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 PM) :

Maybe the french service is bad and the french people rude, sceptical, ironical and not very smiling (that's for sure!). But remember, it's Europe with a heavy and complex history, and not USA which is somekind of nursery in comparison.
That makes the people different and interesting, don't you think?
;-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:13 PM) :

I like the documentary-style photography, but cmon Sart, you're beginning to sound like Gossip Girl. This is supposed to be a street fashion blog, not a day in the life of the rich & famous. I'm worried posts like these will ultimately lose your most important readers..

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (2:19 PM) :

For Anon 2:13
if anything i am getting back to street style even more.
I have passed through the big fashion media (aka Style.com) and have be able to afford to follow my heart and shoot want i want.

I spent the rest of that day on the Left Bank and not at the shows The only way to prove this is to keep coming back and seeing the diversity of places I'm visiting.

Dublin
Sao Paolo
and
soon India and Korea.

Blogger SabinePsynopsis said ... (3:18 PM) :

You obviously seem to be in good company - but I like the woman in the PJs reading (some kind of book not a blackberry) and pleading for coffee best! Oh, why can't a café in Paris not be my living-room??

Blogger SabinePsynopsis said ... (3:25 PM) :

Oh no! It's the menu, not a book!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:30 PM) :

Things I love about the woman in the first 3 pictures.

1. the tux jacket
2. the hugh hefner pants
3. the socks
4. the shoes (with this outfit)
5. her hair
6. her manicure
7. her expression in the second shot
8. the fact that she doesn't know she's being photographed
9. her radiant beauty.

She is just stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 PM) :

Oh to live in a climate in which a sleeveless coat is even a possibility...I'm so interested that you're about to go to Korea. I don't know if this is actually true, but when I lived there many years ago I recall that Korean women were obsessed with the fact that Western women have long legs ("long dal-ee" as I remember). Korean women tend to be a bit shorter and with shorter legs. I was told that this is why they obsessively wear/wore heels, even when hiking! (Seriously, I did see the latter in the mountains in and around Kyong-Ju.) You'll have to let us know.

MaisonChaplin.blogspot.com @ Paris Fashion Week

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:01 PM) :

Hey, one sec. Just wanna say a couple of things.

Firstly, the first lady up there looks like someone that's just returned from an extended holiday in Asia where people order like that. I am sorry but if I'm going to beg for food, I expect the staff to beg for me to pay the bill - on their knees. Order with conviction; begging is not European.

Secondly, I like a tuxedo blazer worn casually but dislike her silk slacks worn with sneakers.

Sneakers are for the gym or jogging. A Parisian cafe' deserves more.

Whenever I leave a negative response it is never printed. (I complained yesterday about the idea Flore being loaded down with fashionistas. I admit Flore was historically full of fashionistas of ideas.)

I think your blog would be more interesting to run the negatives as well as the "oh my God, where can I get those shoooooesss?"

I send enough complimentary ones, after all.(And I am only anon. because it's such a hassle to get a tag.)

Anon 8:41 AM, just roll with the punches, mate. Probably half the stuff I type never sees the light of Scott's blog.

I understand his position though. He's photographing personal friends at times and he can't necessarily allow raw criticism. It would otherwise seem as though he condones and agrees to the less-than-charitable sentiments.

it's great that garance has gone and gotten her coat just like she said she would. the gal definitely knows what she wants and i love her for that.

also the pyjama pants from Dolce & Gabbana, wow, i never thought that one could wear those in public with such grace. maybe it's because i have a recurring nightmare where i come to work with pyjamas :) those nightmares won't be so disturbing anymore and i won't psychoanalyze myself over them as long as i can achieve this look in my subconcious. note to self: look at these pictures before going to bed every night

Service in Madrid is even worse. All my non-spanish friends (and my self, despite being spanish myself and used to that) agree on it. if you don't shout at the waiter/barman, you won't be able to order in most of cafeterias.
On the other hand, I had already seen those Pj's on a celebrity and I found them ridiculous. Glad that an anonymous lady surprisingly made them work. She really has style!

That polka dot pant (I gess it's part of dolce gabanna's pijama suit) doesn't look bad on her... but I cannot believe that someone spends a great amount of money on this pant, she'll wear it only once or twice.

The Max Mara coat is awesome, as the faux leopard scarf. I NEED TO GET ONE!.
