Don't see much of this in US. Very common in Italy. Last time I was in Rome I saw a bunch Middle School kids on a field trip and several of the boys walked like this while talking, it was adorable. Anyway...love the colors on the taller gent. What a great way to wear a t-shirt. As for the other man, to me, his outfit says "I am a fashion writer leaving a fashion show." He's also wearing my least favorite color pants, nice haircut and facial hair grooming though.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (4:20 PM) :

No, no y NO! Those ankle socks with the dress shoes have to go. I like everything else though. What is happening with the pants on the right, is the waist button not fastened? Jorge from WPB

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:25 PM) :

is 'unbuttoned' the next thing or were the trousers possibly a little tight ;-) ?

Blogger Baby Hercules said ... (4:28 PM) :

That's so cute.

Blogger leila wylie said ... (4:39 PM) :

I hope people keep wearing their trousers rolled for a long time to come.

Blogger RJ said ... (4:39 PM) :

Very nice.

Blogger the_eye_collector said ... (4:39 PM) :

Lots of European men seem to do this; more than in the UK and US, anyway. It's nice that they feel as free to express their affection physically as women do.

Incidentally, have you seen the little piece about you on Refinery29? I think you would enjoy it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:42 PM) :

Quirky and adorable photo. Love both looks, but the rolled up cuffs and ankle socks got to go.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:45 PM) :

Is it a double button waist with the top one undone? The band looks really high. I don't actually like either look, but I like the photo.

Anonymous Marquis de Lannes said ... (4:45 PM) :

Des bons amis!

Blogger sofiasophie said ... (4:58 PM) :

handsome men,
& elegants !

Blogger Soren Lorensen said ... (4:59 PM) :

HOORAY they are wearing SOCKS

I love them for not following the sockless crowd...yes to free thinking, each foot to its own.

Anonymous Xris said ... (5:03 PM) :

It is a shame that men in America do not show more affection to one another. The immediate idea is -"gay". But there was time when it was just affection, not sexual. Even manly Scotts used to walk arm in arm. One of my favorite old Scottish professors used to take strolls with his students, locked arm in arm.

Great photo Scott.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

Better with trousers done up.

Anonymous Holly said ... (5:10 PM) :

I think he popped his button ;>)
I like the combination of the roll pants and ankle socks with oxfords.
The more I study his pants I think he has suspenders on. He could'nt possibly keep those pants up with out some added support. I really like the way he shows alot of character with his hairsyle, glasses, well groomed facial hair, and his shirt buttoned up. I like the other guys total look!

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (5:48 PM) :

I agree with a lot of the comments thus far. American male behavior is too structured around some "macho norm".

We are snickering, immature schoolkids when it comes to anything that falls outside of what we think of as "normal".

And even if they are more than friends, BFD.

Anonymous olafgermany said ... (6:08 PM) :

This style is just right in time. Like it very much...and I need the phone number from the left one....

Blogger Belle Armed said ... (6:14 PM) :

That is adorable.

Blogger Caitlin said ... (6:26 PM) :

aww bless. love the bromance xx

Anonymous davidsl said ... (7:28 PM) :

the waistcoat on the taller gent is too short, the gap between the waistcoat and trousers is unsightly. still not digging the rolled pant leg thing. but a cute photo.

Blogger Forest City Fashionista said ... (7:28 PM) :

The rolled pantlegs are everywhere this summer, except of course, for here in London, Ontario. I really like the look on guys as long as the pants are narrow enough. It does look like the pants on the guy on the right don't fit well at the waist, but I love the colour.

Blogger Lolitta said ... (8:42 PM) :

Maybe they are leaving a cafe and he is just so full he had to undo that top button?? I dunno...love the gent on the left.

Great shot, Scott.

Blogger najee said ... (10:09 PM) :

I love that they are comfortable enough to show this type of affection. Anyway the guy on the right looks really well put together,His pant are such a nice colour and the rolled pants are just great. I Love A Navy Blazer!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:28 PM) :

Any of you Sartorialist fans have a recommendation for where to purchase a nice blue blazer in the NYC area? Especially a nice, slim-fitted (ie. European) cut?

Thanks for the jacket inspiration, Sart, as we move into Fall here in the Big Apple!

Blogger beths said ... (10:32 PM) :

Very dear.

Blogger DENNI said ... (11:30 PM) :

hottness

Anonymous Paul said ... (1:22 AM) :

Nice photo Scott. I like the differences between the two men. The differences in height and in style. Nice contrast.

Also reagrding Exris's comment. As a Scot I have never seen any manly Scots walking arm in arm. It's not popular in places like Glasgow or Dundee. Although it would be good if it was...

Blogger Richard said ... (2:00 AM) :

Well they have great taste in shoes anyway .........

Anonymous Albin said ... (4:32 AM) :

There´s something which reminds me of Truman Capote when I see these two guys.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:38 AM) :

I photographed the man on the right also and the top button was supposed to be like that and he was keeping them up with braces which you can't see here. It's a shame also you cant see the detail of the wallet he is holding which was patent red skin of some kind, which went so well with the gold buttons of the Ralph lauren jacket.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:50 AM) :

What a shot scottxxx

Anonymous Daedalist said ... (7:01 AM) :

Ace!

Anonymous CK said ... (7:14 AM) :

The blond on the left looks SO Swedish. Love the bromance!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 AM) :

Thank you Thom Browne!!

I wear ankle socks everyday, they are incredibly comfortable, especially during the summer. And they look fantastic on hairy, muscular legs.

Slim pants rolled up and vests are the "bomb" this year. Deal with it:)

Vest kinda scare me though. Will they go to the back of the closet next year with the mens summer scarves?

Blogger thecatbirdseat said ... (9:55 AM) :

love everything about this photo. i'm going to steal their looks, even though i'm a girl.

i miss socks, too.

Blogger James Taylor said ... (10:42 AM) :

I think I saw these guys in Fort Greene last night...

I've seen this look -- the vest, the pomaded hair, the rolled-up pants and dress shoes -- so many times in New York...

I'm the first guy to turn up my jeans to show a little ankle with a nice loafer but come on... With these guys I feel it's starting to get a little costume-y.

Blogger EM said ... (10:59 AM) :

this headline is priceless.

Blogger MasonSharpe said ... (12:31 PM) :

Very impressed with the bespecled gentleman. Rolled up pants + ankle socks is a risky combination I think. He pulled it off quite nicely. Great photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:26 PM) :

So how many photographers were shooting this pair? Was it set up? Boo.

Blogger Sophie Lin said ... (5:41 PM) :

Awww...so cute.

Blogger Fernando Dasilva said ... (10:00 PM) :

Lovely!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 PM) :

No one wants to see ankles. Rolling your trousers is only acceptable when you have a legitimate risk of getting them wet or dirty. Buttoning the top button of a shirt without a tie is too nerdy for most nerds.

Blogger elizabeth said ... (12:36 AM) :

What a beautiful palette of light blue, rust, brown and navy blue. I love the playfulness of the small rolled cuff of the pants, that little bit of ankle goes a long way!

Blogger .:*aMbAr*:. said ... (1:10 AM) :

They both have AMAZING style, kinda like similar but unique at the same time. GREATNESS!

Anonymous dot said ... (9:23 AM) :

How funny! I saw & shot this guy, too! I shot him for you, because I thought, that is so a Scott shot. Was going to send it to you & a minute later that's when I met & shot you. I sent you the shots, did you receive them yet? (you might be a bit busy ; )

Blogger CW said ... (2:09 PM) :

Don't they look like the hosts of "Mythbusters"?

Blogger MSlattery said ... (8:21 PM) :

I love his socks. They remind me of my mom, who always wears white "peds" with loafers. She's 85, and still stylin'

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 AM) :

in Italy they could be straight, in NY it's "Bromance" and in Sydney it's common and they are boyfriends!

Blogger Lia Martins said ... (6:23 AM) :

Adorable.
