I've never found the "I'm going to purposely buy pants too short to show off my ankles" look appealing.
Never at all; I don't understand it.
The first man looks quite dashing, and I like the serious look on the polka dot fellow; it's ironically charming! A bit like a sad clown, but a cute boy version :D

Blogger kiv said ... (11:10 PM) :

Dear Scott,

i just got your book last night! And its inspiring as your blog!

a fans from Malaysia.

Genius!

Blogger Teresa @ good-grace said ... (11:13 PM) :

oh, how I adore Thom Browne. (Although the polka dots are a wee bit too far over the top for me...) :)
Thanks for sharing the images.

Blogger Bahrain Fashion said ... (11:22 PM) :

I'm a fan of the pants. They're quite stylish!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:25 PM) :

Help me understand the polka dots. I don't get it. Is this is gimmick or am I just not cool enough?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 PM) :

I'm in love with the polka dot man lol. fashion is so daring

Great book signing event! very silly and funny in-person :)

Blogger crickets said ... (11:34 PM) :

That first image is amazing. The tie really seems to pull the whole outfit together, even though all the pieces are just wonderful. That second picture is interesting, a look I would find hard to pull off, but one that they all seem to do much justice to.

The polka dots seem a little ott for me though, but not horrid either.

haha love the polka guy!! :))

Blogger Goodle. said ... (11:36 PM) :

wow so many polka dots! I love how even his lips has a dot on them :)

Blogger Austin.Garnett said ... (11:43 PM) :

YES. They're wearing socks! I saw an interview with Jason Bateman where he talked about doing a photoshoot for some fashion mag. They had him take off his socks because it's "in style" but since Jason Bateman is a normal person, he wears socks all the time. They had to put makeup on his ankles.

Always glad to see some more guys with common sense on the matter

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:49 PM) :

The second picture of the pants is amazing! Especially for me because of my obsession over the bottom of the pants and how they look in contrast with my shoes of the day. It is safe to say I am extremely picky with my pants! The polka dots...super creative and attention getter! I like it anyway because of its uniqueness! I like the first shot of the man with the suit because the suit looks like it's been shrunken!

Wingtips. Every where now it's wingtips.

Blogger Alan said ... (12:01 AM) :

Can you get me the white Hazmat Parka, (background, photo of the young man in Monochrome Twister?)

Anonymous The Photodiarist said ... (12:04 AM) :

Stunning series. Love the second shot the best. Just fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 AM) :

that is what always bothered me about some of the Thom Browne people I see occasionally around town the ankle socks. If you are going to go through all of the trouble to have pants that show your ankle why where socks that cover half of them.

It just looks tacky.

Either wear socks that go up cover your leg when the pants ride up or don't wear any.

Blogger Hannah JV said ... (12:09 AM) :

I find the second image absolutely tantalising. Thank you very much for that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:11 AM) :

Funny how Thom Browne's own jacket has appropriately long sleeves!

Anonymous Dan said ... (12:34 AM) :

And this is where fashion fails. There's nothing daring about lunacy.

Blogger Well Done said ... (12:52 AM) :

no,no, no. these guys just look silly.

Blogger Joshua Logan said ... (12:55 AM) :

The cropped pants is starting to become a uniform. I'm seeing it too much, I like doing it myself but it is as though it no longer has anything to do with function. Maybe it never did.

Anonymous Scoob said ... (12:56 AM) :

Love the first guy, and how the thin tie is perfect with that suit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:07 AM) :

the dots are funny, not stylish. but his serious full of sadness face and his lips with another small white dot are making impression of odd harmony :)))

Blogger The Voguette said ... (1:14 AM) :

fantastic polka dots, reminds me of house of holland a couple seasons ago.

<3 The Voguette

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:30 AM) :

"The first man is quite dashing"...That's Thom Browne

Anonymous Elin said ... (1:46 AM) :

Are you not taking any photos for style.com this fashionweek? I miss them...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:55 AM) :

I love this look, though can I say it reminds me so much of Comme des Garcons?

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:10 AM) :

The first one is Thom Browne ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:11 AM) :

the second photo is begging for the caption:

Shhh...let's keep it 'under the table'.

Anonymous lepetitsmudge said ... (2:23 AM) :

i think thom brown is sort of a one trick pony.
i mean, you can put polka dots and sequins and mermaids all over everything, but its still just shrunken suits season after season. i know its a lot more difficult to be creative and experimental with men's looks, but i don't know, it just feels... gimmicky.

Blogger Frollein von Sofa said ... (2:57 AM) :

Thumbs up for polka dots !!!!

Blogger Dannie said ... (2:59 AM) :

o i just adore chic-y men!

Blogger Cristi Silva said ... (3:10 AM) :

I am seeing spots. PUPPIES! No just kidding. It is an AWESOME shot though!

I like the traditional suit, Matrix Men gone wild, and then the crazy cool suit. It is cool how you set it up! You definitly have a good eye!

Blogger Cobalt Violet said ... (3:23 AM) :

Guess my dad doesn't have to change his shoes... always wingtips! Great shot of the guys under the table.

Love the first guy. Spiffy.

Dots? I hope he's some sort of artist.

love the first pic.....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:15 AM) :

not sure about the white lipstick. is this a variation of white eyebrows?

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:11 AM) :

~time to let my feet breath a little with those pants and show off my new shoes on em. the look is very german, i can see Adolf Hitler now as fashion icon after seeing those pics. :))

Anonymous Hilla Ohayon said ... (5:11 AM) :

I really wish I could lay my hands on my own copy already. Are you going to be on Amazon soon?

Loved the guy in dots!

Blogger Antonio Barros said ... (6:21 AM) :

Who will wear a "dot" suit?

I like the picture of the men without socks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:45 AM) :

If lady gaga was a man she would be the man in polka dots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 AM) :

What fun~!

Blogger Miguel said ... (6:53 AM) :

I like Thom Brown as a fashion stylist, as a showman, or as a creator but honestly I don't see my self wearing his clothes... dont take me wrong, I love it... and I wear thing similar, ones in a while but that's what is fashion about... get some ideas and make it your own...!
By the way Scott, I didn't find your book in Spain... and I want it deeply!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:10 AM) :

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade but anyone who thinks these Pee Wee Herman outfits are remotely stylish or flattering needs to re-check their value system......In 20years time they are going to be up there with bell bottoms and playsuits.

Blogger SallyO said ... (7:43 AM) :

I'm loving the little black ankle socks! They allow men to show off their hairy legs (eww) while still maintaining proper hygeine for their feet! Hooray!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:44 AM) :

polkas are crazy fun. LOVE the top photo. ahhhhhh. he looks perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:59 AM) :

The first photo is Browne himself. His clothes are interesting to look at but I find his clothes impossible to wear. And it's time he moved on past too tight, too short.

Blogger The Clever Pup said ... (8:03 AM) :

Gosh Darn it. The ankle look is silly beyond measure and extremely schoolgirlish - meaning back in the day when we would call our friends to make sure we all had the same thing on. Geesh.

The polka costume is just that, but I appreciate the humor.

Blogger Laurence John said ... (8:27 AM) :

Thom seems to do half wearable grown up clothes and half pantomime silliness. i love the wearable grown up stuff.

Anonymous The Clever Pup's Husband said ... (8:33 AM) :

says that the top suit reminds him of the 1962 astronaut look. A good thing.

Blogger TMFA said ... (8:35 AM) :

Love these styles! Seriously.

Blogger Hawa said ... (8:44 AM) :

note to self...roll up fancy trousers for the non-chalant look of incredibly attractive european men.....also repeatedly follow your blog on an hourly basis as to not miss on commenting on all the amazing previous posts!

Anonymous StyFy said ... (8:48 AM) :

I've been covering Fashion Week Spring 2010 in New York City (shooting video) and just about every editor I've interviewed has given a thumbs down to the capri style, ankle/shin showing pants for men. Also, not seeing much of this look at all at the shows. Most of the men attending, all of whom are trying to look great, have not been going with this style. Perhaps this is a flash in the pan?

http://style-fyle.com/

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:53 AM) :

This show was perfection.
It puts a smile on my face. You know the people who are "too cool" to smile? They were smiling at this show too. They weren't laughing - they were smiles of admiration and appreciation. The men wanted the clothes. The women wanted the men's clothes.
This is what fashion SHOULD be. Fun.
Thank you Thom Browne.

Blogger Mister Zero said ... (8:54 AM) :

Wow, people really go out like this? It's hilarious and horrifying, but funny.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:10 AM) :

i just find there something really kind of effortlessly sexy/cool about the folded up trouser/bare leg/heavy shoe combo,

divine!

Blogger Jillian Hobbs said ... (9:17 AM) :

You know what is weird, this is the fourth time I've seen polka dots this week. I HATED polka dots growing up but I can't help but smile when I see them on someone!

Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:26 AM) :

What? Did the circus come to town?

Anonymous Madame de Guermantes said ... (10:09 AM) :

The polks dots are not bad as an amusement. The flood pants are ridiculous, as I think those gentlemen are not being ironic, but believe themselves to be on the cutting edge of fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:10 AM) :

ridiculous...malheuresement

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:35 AM) :

I just don't get the hype. Thom Brownes suits look like they have been washed in hot water and thrown in the dryer to shrink. If you really understand proportion, fit, and ultimately good taste, Thom Browne suits will seem ridiculous.

Anonymous Michael M said ... (10:41 AM) :

thom browne looks great from the waist up, as evidenced by the first photo. clean and modern upgrade of the old. but when it gets to the highwaters....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

I was wondering if the men wearing the shorter pants wax their legs or go au natural--I love Mr. Polka Dots--by the way. He looks fresh and a bit silly.

Anonymous Style Geek said ... (10:51 AM) :

Fashion SHOULD be fun and it SHOULD make you look twice. Thanks for photographing the polka-dot man. He captures those two aspects well.

Anonymous davidsl said ... (11:08 AM) :

first photo, lovely and stylish.

second photo, laughable.

third photo, no. just no.

clown clothes for people with no sense.

Blogger Helen said ... (11:09 AM) :

Oohhh absolutely fabulous. Everything!

Blogger willie said ... (11:29 AM) :

I have totally been digging the short pants look lately. Trying to work it into my corporate office look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:47 AM) :

Thom Browne reminds me of one thing, and one thing only - the emperor's new clothes. He's a sharp looking guy and I respect his style, but I just don't get all the fashion lemmings drooling over his clothes.

Anonymous Verdiales said ... (11:56 AM) :

Does Thom Browne own any other clothes? How dreary it all becomes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 PM) :

There's a guy running around Washington DC in a similar suit with '?' marks all over it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 PM) :

Although I can't see his pants, what Thom Browne is basically wearing is a 1960s suit. What's so genious about that? I have dozens of the REAL thing.

Anonymous Emma Howard said ... (1:14 PM) :

Man in first photo is strikingly handsome & masculine in his suit and tie.

Great hair cut w/ beard stubble.

I wonder what that paper says in his coat pocket?

Blogger m. said ... (2:43 PM) :

courageous. I like the white dot on his lips. :)

Blogger bsa said ... (3:26 PM) :

this isn't fashionable, it's laughable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:58 PM) :

Somewhere I can hear the song "Send in the Clowns".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:04 PM) :

who is the model in the third photo?

Blogger chula said ... (12:20 AM) :

wow... I should start design a men collection line... it;s great

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:43 AM) :

The only problem I have with the Thom Browne silhouette is how it doesn't change, like someone else said. I think he will not be satisfied with this cropped everything silhouette until half the men in Manhattan are spotting it - and by the way, he doesn't have very long to go; a testament to the undeniable influence he has had.

Blogger MOD PAUL said ... (11:51 AM) :

That jacket is way way to FAB!!! I have been very outspoken fan and have been sporting T.B. for years but this jacket is the best thing in years... Well done my son you just keep doing it year after year.

Blogger hi-d said ... (3:55 PM) :

LOL...I guess this would be an easy, "connect the dot" game. :)

Blogger Benj said ... (1:00 PM) :

Awesome!

Blogger Brian said ... (1:46 PM) :

Thom Brown or Barnum Bros. Clown School...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:53 PM) :

Is it just me, or are DotGuy's sleeves different lengths?

Also--if he's already wearing a jacket, what could that extra garment in his hand possibly be? Is he carrying the matching half of his suit in case of emergency? Were some guys trading clothes backstage? I'm curious now.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 AM) :

One thing about the look that I don't get - with all the wrist provided by the short sleeves, I feel it's the perfect place to accent with a fantastic watch, but none of the men at the table are wearing one. I love great watches, and most of the time with a standard-length suit sleeve it just goes to waste hidden beneath your cuff, but the short sleeve is perfect for showing it off. Also, I have to imagine the short pant is a summer look only, akin to the capri? I couldn't imagine walking around NY in the winter with pants that short, nor the ankle socks... Besides slim, what differentiates a thom browne winter-weight suit?

Blogger LAB said ... (10:13 AM) :

Haha beatiful !

Blogger MonsieurMonsieur said ... (7:33 AM) :

Oh enough already with TB. Ridiculousness and ankle baring clothes do not make fashion or style. When will the collective wake up to the joke being played out.

Anonymous Anni Hall said ... (9:25 AM) :

The second look is fantastic! I will have to secretly shorten my boyfriends pants and buy him short socks.. hee hee ;)

Blogger superawesomeman said ... (10:34 PM) :

with all the criticism of preen about women's bodies, it's curious how you don't extend the same commentary to thom brown.
so ruffles around the butt is ugly but polka dotted dress pants are okay?
Both are awesome but neither is really "wearable."

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:18 PM) :

Look up pictures of the rapper Kwame. The polka dots remind me of him. Except this time, the man looks clownish.

Blogger leszekg said ... (8:43 AM) :

love the polka dot jackets. Could definitely incorporate in my own wardrobe. great work as always from thom!
