On the Street....Slim Sleeve, Florence

I love the simple color story of navy, tan and brown; but what really caught my eye was the slimness of their jacket sleeves. Look how narrow they are around the wrist - so many of today's jackets are cut so loose to fit everyone (or at least everyone with fat wrists).

I agree with you. These days, most clothing off the rack is cut to fit most people, and therefore it is a bit too roomy. I have found an easy alternative in buying vintage shirts at thrift stores, from the days when clothes were cut to fit. I do like these examples you have picked- it pays to have one jacket tailored rather than have 5 that are roomy everywhere! Jorge from WPB

Love the pics. Especially the second one. Everything about that outfit looks great to me. I need to get a pair of shoes like that.

brown gents shoes are always nice. and compliments for the dress.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 PM) :

The slim cut looks great! More guys should wear their jackets this way. I think it's much more flattering. I also love the hat in teh first picture and the shoes in the second! And I agree - you can't go wrong with navy, tan and brown!

Blogger PAJR said ... (12:21 PM) :

I'm a fan of the slim sleeve that gently flares at the wrist.

Blogger C. said ... (12:39 PM) :

Great pictures.

Anonymous Clément said ... (12:41 PM) :

i really like those looks..
especially the first and his shirt

Anonymous wry said ... (12:51 PM) :

True, true. But more than the outfits I love the hair in the second picture. Gorgeous! I think I'm in love.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:52 PM) :

Where would a young man with slender arms and a small frame find such a jacket? A tailor wouldn't slim the arms would they...?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:58 PM) :

Yes, yes, yes.
And, finally guys not wearing sox the way you're supposed to not wear sox. If you know what I mean.

Blogger brandd said ... (1:04 PM) :

Dear Sartorialist,

These cuffed pants do look great. What do you think of the on 5'6'' mid built men?

Cheers!

Anonymous Jesse said ... (1:04 PM) :

I'm 6'6" and anything generic that fits in length, you could pass a watermelon through the sleeves.

Blogger Andre Gorr said ... (1:13 PM) :

like the pics...
the first guy is great in his casual elegance,- maybe i should go to Florence to seek for job.. too many well dressed people you find there....
and the second is great in his choice to coordinate the colours - socks to match the BLAZER, not the shoes nor panths - otherwise it would be really DULL! love his "Julian Lennon" look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:21 PM) :

I like the way the guy in the first pic is wearing the colors better. Seen so much khaki pants and navy blazer so its nice to see it switched up a bit. Something about his look reminds me of Dries Van Noten (print shirt maybe).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 PM) :

I love how the colors in the outfit of the man in the hat echo the stone wall background.

Blogger Simo said ... (1:37 PM) :

To be honest i never saw jacket sleeves like that
or i never pay attention to that
what i know now, that i will look for something like that
Merci encore une fois Scott.

Thats what I love about European fit. It gives the wearer such ownership

Blogger bravegrrl said ... (2:14 PM) :

i adore this color combination

Blogger Raul Villalobos said ... (2:19 PM) :

Not a big hat lover, but this man pulls it off right down to the peppered scruffy beard. I love the fact that the jackets cuffs have but one button. I could do without the highwaters, but in showing off his tan legs and the sockless and wonderfully worn shoes I will forgive him.

The second picture I am just drawn to the shoes. The ones the main focused man is wearing but more so the regular jeans with the sockless cordovan penny loafers. The colors look great.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:34 PM) :

I love the why they do shoes and no socks!

Blogger Manuel said ... (4:21 PM) :

no, no and NO
the man with hat is terrible ¡¡vulgar!!

Blogger trulymadlydeeply said ... (4:24 PM) :

great pant proportions

Anonymous Antonio Barros said ... (4:35 PM) :

The first outfit is very good! I love his hat!

Blogger Laurence John said ... (5:13 PM) :

great colour composition on guy 2.
like the way the socks and shoes go together.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (5:17 PM) :

I should have said first =(
LOL. Jorge from WPB

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 PM) :

The rolled up pants and sockless brogues is rather overdone. It's been from the beginning of the trend very contrived. Although the jeans and penny loafer guy seems more natural and nonchalant.

Anonymous sanmiguelense said ... (5:49 PM) :

No socks with the cool shoes, excellent.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:39 PM) :

Nice to see the prep sensibility with a bit of panache.
The leather and buck wing tips are cool and the hidden laces are a nice touch of personal style.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (7:22 PM) :

Love the slim sleeves. Along with slimmer cut trousers, I hope it's a trend that will catch on with American men.

Blogger CM said ... (7:53 PM) :

I love love love those brown oxfords.

Blogger Carlos Gonzalez said ... (8:11 PM) :

I agree with Patrick from a few posts above. A slim sleeve which flares a bit around the wrist allows for better cuff cleavage ;)

Blogger Tim McFarlane said ... (10:40 PM) :

A fitted jacket always looks better. The color combinations and pattern accents are great on both men.

Blogger Paule T.B. said ... (11:06 PM) :

both those jackets might be women cuts though...but it does look good.

Blogger Alan Nei said ... (12:36 AM) :

perfect palette of colors and outfit in second pic
belisimo !!
ciao

Blogger JohnQSmith said ... (3:33 AM) :

Where can you get jackets like that?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:56 AM) :

The Oxfords are great. A classic shoe as it´s best.
Bit the shoes in the first shot are great, too. And the hat. So cool. Both outfits are stylish and well organized from the head till to foot!

sartorialist...when are u coming to barcelona? pleeeez....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:47 AM) :

The man in the 2nd picture might have skinny wrists, but he's got big fat feet.

He should pull those laces tight.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 AM) :

A typical japanese fashion-consious bloke. This kind of style can be found in Tokyo, Beams International.
I wonder if this guy is a buyer?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM) :

Anyone know what kind of watch the second man is wearing?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 AM) :

Fine attention to detail, and the simplicity between few the colours is perfect.

Anonymous down pillow said ... (11:59 AM) :

Those shoes in the first picture really are to die for! And I agree that the story of navy and tan will never get tired.

Anonymous Sartorial Student said ... (12:00 PM) :

Totally agree, we need more slim sleeve jackets. Love the suede/leather shoes on the second picture, always a nice texture mixture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:17 PM) :

I'm not commenting until Zuccotto gets here. I'm not taking chances.

-Pietro

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:23 PM) :

I will guess about watch,is a simple vintage watch, maybe his grandfather watchs,(Cartier?);but i have one doubt about socks,i dont like the first man using this shoes without socks, but i really loveD the feet of third man without socks, who can explain me why?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 PM) :

i love the navy/tan/brown thing. awesome. the first guy looks great! love the jacket and shoes so much!!

Blogger Julia said ... (2:40 PM) :

Hair + glasses on #2 is pretty fantastic. Like the slim watch, as well--unexpected.

Blogger teresa said ... (2:50 PM) :

Yay to the beautiful man #2 (who looks like a Japanese Johnny Depp) for wearing socks. But I would like to see something more exciting, lighter weight, and in a lighter color, brown tones.

Re: slim sleeves - the slimmer the better.

Anonymous HW12345 said ... (5:29 PM) :

This get-up is really cool...
Might be perfectly fits for all!

(Shoes with no socks though? Hope he's carrying some plasters with him...)

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:17 PM) :

why do I always find a bright, crisp, navy appealing on a male figure? These pics wonderfully represent the ideal "navy". I want to see ideal navy on women through your eyes. I think it is done, but not enough.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:19 AM) :

Though I think the slim fit stuff looks OK, but honestly if you wear these italian styles with slim cut jackets and no vent, it is like wearing a straight jacket.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:34 AM) :

The first guy is Reinhart Plank, designer of the eponyous brand.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 AM) :

I want to see the guy next to him. I like his shoes. Please do khaki jacket montage. It seems all on NY men are going the Blue jacket/white pant trend. We need to mix it up.
