On the Street.... Anna Piaggi

I know she is a little over dramatic, but every time I see Anna Piaggi she forces me to really consider her mix of patterns, colors and genres - I love that. She is a true, modren Style Icon.

Blogger taryn said ... (11:20 AM) :

I agree she does it in a way no one else could, so unabashed but at the same time honest. She's uber "couture". I could NEVER (nor would I even try) to pull off her look, but it definitely gives some yummy food for thought.

The jacket is genius.

Blogger kahartland said ... (11:25 AM) :

hmm she is a character isnt she? i envy that she can so effortlessly wear such a, well, interesting outfit. ;)

Lovely! Very dramatic. H&M actually has a jacket very similar to that one out now. At least in Stockholm.

Anonymous CommarrahJewelia said ... (11:42 AM) :

Price tag and patterns aside, I really think that you can only look good in something you believe you look good in. This woman knows she looks good and her face says it all; "Go ahead. Try and tell me I don't look fantastic. See what happens."

Blogger Titus said ... (11:54 AM) :

Superlative

Chanel jacket... I could die for it!!!

Anna Piaggi is also a lovely and kind lady!

Yes! But the Jacket rules! I couldn't have gone without making a copy for my 'military jacket' themed blog - "Armed Beauty" (www.armedbeauty.blogspot.com). Thank you, SARTORIALIST!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 PM) :

Incredibly dramatic! But pretty fantastic.
Am I the only one who wants her as my aunt/grandma?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:44 PM) :

many people love her just because they know who is she, what if you see a perfect stranger dressed like this...?it would probably be the target for the critics of the fashionable shallow people who follows the rules of the day.
She creates, what fashion should be doing all the time

Blogger Brian said ... (12:44 PM) :

Great look if you want to be mistaken for the bookkeeper at Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium on her lunch break...

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:46 PM) :

I've always loved this woman, I feel so stylistically repressed every time I see her. sigh.

Blogger Jessica Lana said ... (12:56 PM) :

Oh Dear Charlotte, I was thinking the same thing... this woman made me wish we could've seen a lifetime more of Issy Blow!

Blogger Karolina said ... (12:57 PM) :

Blogger J. said ... (1:06 PM) :

She looks like she could be a character from one of Hayao Miyazaki's cartoons. Very interesting look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

aww, she's such an extravaganza i ADORE her. i don't think she's dramatic, i actually believe she's one of the last people in the fashion industry to be wearing what they love wearing and have their own little history of style! i've seen her at the chanel boutique she was stunning such an amazing icon and beautiful creature. continue inspiring us anna!

Blogger martis said ... (1:21 PM) :

Wow, she put together everything what's possible: Westwood, Galliano and Dior and stuf... really special...

Blogger miss sophie said ... (1:39 PM) :

i love her turqoise and gold-tipped cane! and the admiral jacket is pretty awesome - only she could rock this look and pull it off :)

Blogger Sonja Blackham said ... (1:53 PM) :

I can only hope to be so creative and free at her age!

Blogger Fannah said ... (1:55 PM) :

she wears it well. on anybody else it would be weird, but on her it's just.. natural :)

Blogger Macy said ... (2:04 PM) :

The blue walking stick is ace. Can we have a series of Icons Over 50 please?

Anonymous Martin said ... (2:09 PM) :

Dude, she's a circus clown. But I love it.

Blogger JouJou Loves You said ... (2:28 PM) :

I don't find her dramatic...I consider her to be a true artist. Most people wouldn't even have the guts or know how to put something like this together...let alone actually wear it. True art is when we create things others cannot...or would not.

Anonymous holly said ... (2:47 PM) :

Talk about someone that embraces her own unique style sense...You've got to love it...it makes me happy

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:53 PM) :

Interesting and eccentric, yes. But the work that went into putting together this assemblage is blatantly evident--and that, in turn, exhibits a lack of a certain je nais sais qua.
The tilt of the hat is wonderfully amusing, though--as is the bright cupid's bow mouth.

Blogger Michael Joseph Owens said ... (2:55 PM) :

Anna's nothing but perfect, from the top of her hat the soles of her shoes!

Blogger Phoebe Rose said ... (3:19 PM) :

She's just so damn cool.

Blogger Natalie J Monty said ... (3:19 PM) :

She reminds me of a theatre and/or drama teacher/lecturer. As a student for so many years I've come to realise that teachers of the arts are always the most sartorial.

It may be dramatic, but you cannot deny that the jacket is tres chic, n'est-ce pas?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:22 PM) :

Dear God!
There's something about this that reminds of a Cockney King or Queen.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:37 PM) :

When I see her, I do not enjoy her appearance. Am I the only person on the planet who thinks this? At the same time, I applaud Anna Piaggi (and all others) for wearing what makes them feel wonderful and alive.

Yeah, there's a bit of Anna Piaggi in all of us. There's also a bit of that stare in all of us which down in the streets could frighten the horses.

Anonymous alloamora said ... (7:05 AM) :

Seperate each piece anyone can wear, but all put together only someone of unshakable confidence and artistic flare could wear these clothes and maintain the air of an aristocrat. Well done dear.

She's a character.

Anonymous lintmag said ... (10:38 AM) :

I would just kill to see her closet - Anna Piaggi is always superb.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:18 PM) :

I love that her outfits are never something that you quickly glance at; they deserve a nice long stare to truly appreciate the thought that goes into putting them together.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 PM) :

she's a "vintage" version of betsy johnson (or perhaps boy george?? :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:31 PM) :

The circus is in town. Awe hell, she is happy. Maybe we can learn something?

Blogger cml said ... (8:36 PM) :

Blogger erin nuts said ... (8:37 PM) :

there is no such thing as over dramatic. I hope I have this much sass when I'm that old.

Blogger erin nuts said ... (8:38 PM) :

Blogger Scott W said ... (10:49 PM) :

FAB-U-LOUS! Wow!

Blogger Yoli said ... (11:07 PM) :

This is a joke right? Cirque De Soile is calling her. I am sure she is a lovely lady and a daring one but I would be concerned if my grandmother went out of the house like that, I would have to consider the medication she is taking.

Blogger Anna said ... (12:51 AM) :

Nice to know she recycles her hats-- I took this one of her 2 years ago in Paris:

Blogger Barbara said ... (3:12 PM) :

I totally agree with ohdearcharlotte - this is Isabella Blow if she had lived to this age. Far too over the top for me - she just looks ridiculous. She's not chic and her makeup is horrific. But she's daring, and is obviously confident in her eccentricity, so full marks for that.

Anonymous anna said ... (4:51 PM) :

it's so great to see someone who dresses for themselves- she obviously has fun with style and doesn't care what people think. and the hat and makeup are fantastic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:29 PM) :

it's a costume for a role she plays. but it isn't clothing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:35 PM) :

um, WHERE can i find a hat like that ?

Blogger Lucy in the Sky said ... (8:05 PM) :

I remember seeing her on the 20/20 segment with Anna Wintour. it was kind of sad, the interviewer mocked those who dressed as you said "over-dramatic" but hello, it's fashion. she doesn't look pretentious and overdone which can't be said for many people nowadays.

She is such a popular photo op in the fashion world...but does this woman ever look like she's enjoying the attention she obviously takes such pains to attract? She always looks like she's never having any fun! Her face is always so dour. Whenever I see her I wonder: "What is this woman actually about, anyway?!"

Fantastic to see Anna being Anna.
Memories of a great dinner with her and Vern Lambert in Verns basement apartment in Milan. Both beautiful friendly souls, Anna wearing a Jenny Kee ensemble to make us feel at home (Aussies). The most amazing collection of fashion I had ever seen covered the walls, floors, beds throughout the apartment - incredible.
RIP Vern.

Blogger Jules, London said ... (9:03 AM) :

I think her best style trait is the fact that she's unafraid to be herself. Her look is very studied and shows care for her personality and personal expression. I admire her for wearing herself on her sleeve as it were.
