You found this guy in Brooklyn? Fabulous. B) I think we rarely find this in NYC anymore. What a gem he is!

Anonymous Tabitha said ... (9:16 AM) :

Le sigh...

They just don't make 'em like they used to!

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (9:19 AM) :

Men aren't dapper any longer. What happened? He has such a marvelous presence. I hope you listened to him for awhile. I imagine he has some wisdom to impart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 AM) :

Thanks again for reminding us that serene and confident personal style always trumps fashion.

So dapper! Reminds me of Cab Calloway

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:35 AM) :

Ft.Greene is a wonderful area full of great stories... I'm still a Manhattan fan..but to walk around Ft. Greene and stop or be stopped for 'stoop stories' is priceless. Regarding this photo (& this blog for the stories you let us create around them)...also priceless.
Thank you for what you do.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:42 AM) :

More proof of how strong a classic style statement is.

Blogger ooothundathighrevo said ... (9:42 AM) :

that man has so much swagger

Blogger Forest City Fashionista said ... (9:44 AM) :

So elegantly put together, from his head to his toes

Blogger The Urban Flaneur said ... (9:49 AM) :

A flaneur! Elegance can be found everywhere and this is a perfect example. But the greatness of our times is also how the "dapper man" has expanded its meaning and can be applied to a variety of styles.
Regards, The Urban

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:49 AM) :

He looks like he's from New Orleans. Anyways great photo!

Elegant, masculine, chic, individual. Oh, I adore everything about this man.

Blogger leslie houin said ... (9:58 AM) :

These men are few and far between. I have a great old Black dapper friend such as this man, and can you believe his fashion secret is to shop completely second hand? He says he does this so he can save money to travel around the world.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 AM) :

perfect. love his character and personality.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:07 AM) :

Now, you're cooking with gas! Please don't go to Paris, France anymore, (at least for pics of the menfolk) they can't hold a candle to this man.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:10 AM) :

Great shoes...

Bravo!

awww adorable!

Anonymous lintmag said ... (11:45 AM) :

It's sad that more men - of any age - don't make the effort anymore like this good looking man! No younger man in old sweatpants, t-shirt, baggy jeans, beat up sneakers, is going to hold a candle to him. Put him in your next book!

Blogger Angeles Almuna said ... (11:56 AM) :

Fabulous shot and he has the best attitude with those fantastic shoes!

Anonymous jbozak said ... (12:01 PM) :

This Gentleman is always dressed to the "Nines".
Clothes are always coordinated and well tailored.
He used to be a dancer. And is a beloved fixture in the Fort Greene community.

Butterflies, fold-in-chairs, and healthy sidewalk arguments on after Sunday church. Very New York, particularly along Essex Street south of Delancey.

Makes me miss my old nabe'. Great look.

Blogger Joseph Rudi Pielichaty said ... (1:39 PM) :

His glasses are my highlight as they're the perfect balance between age appropriate and yet cooler than anything else out there.

Plus the cardigan is a delight.

Blogger Cristi Silva said ... (1:54 PM) :

Blogger brandt said ... (4:03 PM) :

So cool, he can wear layers in the summer!
Perfectly executing some Carib/Brooklyn flair...
He could be in Port of Spain or Havana, but this is how we do in Ft. Greene!
He obviously knows what he's doing with color and pattern, and the (what looks like) gradient tortoise shells are just smart.

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:19 PM) :

The true test of elegance is how one dresses at home with no where to go.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 PM) :

wow! that's what I call Style and character, not just fashion

Blogger hi-d said ... (4:30 PM) :

He has got the old school cool factor goin' on! It's a great shot!

Anonymous gypsy howell said ... (4:41 PM) :

Great shot

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:56 PM) :

I saw this gentleman on the subway platform in Ft. Greene a few weeks back and remembered that he was dressed with such style and grace, I also remember saying to myself that the Satorialist must take a photo of him right at this moment... this picture put a smile on my face again today!!!

Blogger Ashley said ... (5:06 PM) :

Amazing photo. You can tell this man has a ton of personality and his clothes show it.

Blogger Christina said ... (5:07 PM) :

See, this is what real style is. When a man can wear spectators, trousers, a cardigan, patterned button down, a hat and a pinky ring, you know he has perspective. Bravo.

Blogger Alida said ... (5:10 PM) :

He is gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

this image reminds me a great deal of my grandfather who i call HotWheels. He's still around and he wears all of these same things even the ring. it's something of a different era - when a crease in the slacks was important as were different social graces. reading the above comments only helped to remind me even more of how amazing my Hot Wheels is. And yes, I have started to do audio recordings of interviews with him. he doesn't so much go on to impart his wisdom as much as to tell the stories of his life and having been silly or worked hard bought pretty cars, loving his family and spending time with his friends. that and going out for BLT's and rootbeer when I go home and see him.

Thanks very sincerely

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (3:36 PM) :

From my dad's era. Might even be one of his poker buddies.

Funny, when I attempt to dress this way (even at the "young" age of 49), people think I'm playing "dress up".

I see older gentleman like this at the Lenox Lounge up in Harlem.

Blogger YEYE STYLE BLOG said ... (3:57 PM) :

This is such an amazing shot! He has great style, I wish all men would dress like him.

Blogger pocketnovella said ... (7:49 PM) :

this man looks so FABULOUS. but i wish people didn't want everyone to dress like this! he looks special because he is unique. even though he wears such heavy pieces i guess the white makes it summer appropriate. love it love it.

can't wait to run into him soon since i just moved here!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:56 PM) :

This world-class charm transcends place. Funny, after having spent part of the summer in Ft. Greene and part in the South Pacific, I am taken by the classic styling of men who know how to rock a fedora and cardy.

This gents wingtips are ultra-chic, too.

The entire look is tied together by his spectacles.

I feel that there are so many options available for men to express the totality of their aesthetic sensibilities.

This photo has now become one my top favs, Sarto!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:19 PM) :

How can you comment on his shoes without noting the glasses, the pinkie ring, and the manicure!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:30 PM) :

He's been There. Oh yeah, and he knows what's happening. Seen it come, and seen it go. The shoes tell his whole story. Where the rubber meets the road. A legend.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:03 PM) :

he's gorgeous--I love how relaxed and elegant he is

Blogger Yoli said ... (11:08 PM) :

Hmmm i wonder if he can tap dance?

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (1:53 PM) :
