At Prada....Cut-off Shorts, Milano

I loved the cut-off dress pant shorts at Prada. A great way to take the cut-off khakis to the next level.

I had a great seat at Prada, but by the time I realized how cool the shorts were I couldn't change the settings on my camera fast enough to get a great image.

(photo brazenly stolen from Men.Style.com, sorry)

Wouldn't this cut-off idea be a great way to update those Prada pants from last Summer.

Forget about cut-off shorts! Look at this great pair of legs on this guy!:-)))

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (5:55 PM) :

Hm...gives me some ideas on what to do with several pairs of pants/jeans hubby has on which he's 'chewed' the bottoms of, by constantly stepping on it :)
xx

Blogger Stefanie said ... (6:06 PM) :

See the guy in the background who keeps huging himself? I know why ... No socks, lovely legs!

Anonymous Emma said ... (6:07 PM) :

interestingly paired with the long trench the gap between men and women's fashion being bridged closer and closer each seasom!

Anonymous John said ... (6:22 PM) :

What a great pair of legs (;

Blogger Style Geek said ... (6:27 PM) :

Wow! Those legs! Prada has a little revolution up their sleeves... er..pantlegs. :)

Anonymous Fashion Minute said ... (6:32 PM) :

I prefer the herringbone pair (in the blurry photo). The length is indeed quite short which has made it a bit challenging to persuade my male styling clients to wear, but believe me guys: jammers/surf-length shorts are OVER, show off your gams this season! ;)

Anonymous Emma Howard said ... (6:34 PM) :

This look of cut-off formal pants (khaki and denim are fine) with threads hanging is on same level as seeing a man wearing short, dark dress socks with athletic shoes and shorts; it raises a red flag to my senses to remain alert for possible danger.

Blogger Howdy said ... (6:34 PM) :

Sir- I disagree; this is a great image- context is key here. How often do we EVER see motion blur/narrow depth of field in your shots? Most of the time your photos are so well-composed that we forget you are engaged in more than just art- this is a great fashion journalism shot. And, yes- those are some Great legs.

Blogger Miiicha said ... (6:34 PM) :

Love some of the pieces !

Blogger Sartorial Vancouver said ... (6:42 PM) :

I have thought about this, getting trousers made up but specifying a shorter pant length so that you end up with a pair of shorts. Ahh, bespoke shorts.

Blogger zbs said ... (6:55 PM) :

I agree with Howdy, this image came out great. Gives a sense of the entire outfit in motion and still conveys the essential aspects of its silhouette.

Blogger Ti said ... (7:10 PM) :

am I the only one to think the "great legs" are kind of tending towards ana?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:14 PM) :

i can see how cutting the trousers on the bottom image would work because it is so much of the same print, i liked the top part of the top outfit but really.. i cant imagine cut off shorts being a hit with guys!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 PM) :

those cutoffs are horrible!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:22 PM) :

The first pic is fab.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (7:33 PM) :

No worries about the first picture! It's moving...it's new...it's Scott taking a new direction. Yeah I LOVE it!

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (7:54 PM) :

No!

Blogger Ivy Lane said ... (8:10 PM) :

Lordy! Those are SOME legs!!!!

Blogger nicolaselhani said ... (8:27 PM) :

The image is great. It's the in the moment relfex and how perfectly imperfect it is... that coupled with avant-garde of Prada... beautiful!

Blogger Yoli said ... (8:41 PM) :

Is this a joke? I might add, a man with those pairs of legs can wear anything, however picture skinny hairy legs or obese legs in these and you can see the extreme error of this garment. The bottom garment in purple is best left to the very young.

Blogger n/a said ... (8:43 PM) :

those cutoffs would only look good on that guy with the great legs. on everyother man they would look very bad, generally because men tend to have horrible tan lines and not so toned legs

Anonymous Kyle said ... (8:50 PM) :

Curse my hairy legs! I would wear the look if it weren't for that one little down-fall...

Blogger bekkah said ... (9:00 PM) :

i think it's a great image. true it doesn't really show off the shorts, but the shoulder area. but i love the focus!

Blogger Me said ... (9:09 PM) :

Oh, my God! Anything on THOSE legs!!

Anonymous AimeeLovesYou said ... (9:15 PM) :

I like that the picture of the cut-offs is 'in motion'. Much more interesting than it it were perfect & still.
It makes the model's legs look -even more- sporty & fit.

Blogger ultimate fashion junkie. said ... (9:23 PM) :

ditto. those legs are amazing. and the shorts are fabulous.

Anonymous George said ... (9:27 PM) :

Those legs are intimidating! Do you need legs like that to pull them off? Whoops, double entendre! I mean, to wear them...

I will wait until I see them on someone more mortal before I make a judgment.

Anonymous Thomas E.K. said ... (9:33 PM) :

Like the idea but I can't sayt hat I dig the execution.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 PM) :

I really like the patterns on the shirt and pants of the second model.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:08 PM) :

Those shorts are very Bruno

Anonymous jules said ... (10:10 PM) :

i actually love the 1st ph. the blurriness adds to its appeal
the outfit is quite nice too

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:28 PM) :

I'm sorry, those legs terrify me. Male or female, legs should not be so thin unless its natural. THAT does not look natural. Just my opinion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:10 AM) :

I think I prefer this, compared with other recent men collections; because I feel it would be more versatile, you know, with the patterns and all. I adore the second photo. Very charming with the sandals.

Blogger ajd said ... (12:25 AM) :

Is the shirt print in the first photo a little reminiscent of an MC Escher pattern? I'm glad to see a new tailored short!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:32 AM) :

Really?
This photo taken by you is nice enough to express what you said about Prada!!
It is complicating to capture something and someone moving.
So, i concentrate on seeing and feeling the shows much more than the pix.

This total look is great,,,from the short pants, mesh cardigan, shirts to coat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 AM) :

Please Mr Schuman, find me someone in real life that dresses like this. I'm sure you'll have a hard time. Thats my problem with runway shows is that they aren't practical no one ever wear's this kind of stuff except on the runway.

Blogger seawallrunner said ... (1:24 AM) :

Those legs are arresting. The coat, vest and shirt as well. Oh how I love the tones, the textures, the layers!

But the shorts - meh-h. Cut the Prada pants from last summer? Oh dear, no. To the back to the closet, those go.

The shoes without socks and those legs, be still my beating heart, I'm in LOVE!

Blogger BlumeBloom said ... (2:26 AM) :

It is true! While the shorts are great, those legs!

Blogger eLLy* said ... (2:49 AM) :

I get a little dizzy looking at the first picture but I like it. Keep it coming!

Blogger Natalia | Look-A-Porter said ... (3:10 AM) :

OMG... those legs...

Anonymous rafaela said ... (4:21 AM) :

I have to disagree with the general opinion on those legs. Far too skinny. With decent legs, maybe those cut-offs could work, but I don't want to see thighs that skinny on anyone. Thighs should be *bigger* than calves, people!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:37 AM) :

1. Cut-offs are nothing for gentlemen.
2. So sorry that also male models are pushed into shaving their legs.
3. The prints of last summer are
lovely.

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:36 AM) :

my mom says if I can't say anything good don't say anything at all..zip, zip, zipping it..wait those legs are amazing...

Blogger DJT.D said ... (7:31 AM) :

Isn't that the most amazing legs ever ?!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:53 AM) :

I agree with Howdy. It's far too easy to obtain razor sharp photos in this digital world. People sometimes forget to incorporate other photographic techniques such as slower shutter speeds, like in this photo. I think it's well done.

Cut off shorts not so important for men...

Blogger ingefaer said ... (8:19 AM) :

The Photo is great! The outfit - not so much. Belongs on the runway.

Blogger Yi said ... (8:29 AM) :

I think the shorts are cool - if you've got the legs to wear them- which this model obviously does!

-Yi

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (8:34 AM) :

Great pictures, both of them! Interestingly enough, when I look at runway pictures, I look 50% at what's ON the runway, and another 50% at what the first row of people are wearing. I feel it is more of-the-moment and certainly tons more wearable. The cut off slacks are something totally doable with fine trousers from thrift stores!!! Zanellas, anyone?
Jorge from WPB

Blogger Gary K. said ... (8:56 AM) :

Oh, no. These both, especially the top, look like Project Runway ideas gone bad.

Blogger Soren Lorensen said ... (10:35 AM) :

HELP scary legs aaahh

Anonymous lintmag said ... (11:19 AM) :

The photo - love the blur, the legs-great and muscley, but those shorts on a guy? jamais! I think they'd look cute on a young girl with good legs, but even on a wilder-dressing gay man they are not ever going to be a great look in my opinion.

Blogger Jenna W said ... (12:00 PM) :

In theory, cut-off shorts like these are perfect for summer. But practically, I can't wear them to work...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 PM) :

Sorry, don't like this look one bit. Particularly the length at which the shorts are cut off...waaaay too short

Blogger Kristen said ... (2:10 PM) :

Oooo Hello photo #1..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:21 PM) :

Right, Scott - update last year's Pradas by cutting them off - brilliant idea. If you are a gajillionaire!!! :-(

Blogger Deafkid said ... (2:56 PM) :

I really hate the first look. Summer fashion is supposed to look free spirited and fresh. This is just vamping your fall/winter wardrobe towards hotter tempuratures...cloudy day syndrome.

The second look, however, makes me so nostalgic about last summer. It's beautiful.

Anonymous duncan said ... (3:22 PM) :

I think the blurry shot of the legs is great, sometimes mistakes or accidents can be really beautifull!

Blogger noelakadjtambour said ... (3:41 PM) :

the photo of the legs are great for those studying anatomy, physiology are figure drawing...all the sinewy parts are showing and the individual muscles can be seen independently...crazy

Anonymous Questioner said ... (3:59 PM) :

Sart, the first picture is a great photo!

But the shorts?!? If it's cold enough to wear a shirt buttoned all the way up, a sweater and a trenchcoat, isn't it too cold to wear shorts? And with the rough-edged cut off's, If I saw this person on the street I'd think that he was homeless and/or needs a few days rest at a hospital with some strong medication.

Blogger Wanderlusting said ... (4:19 PM) :

Terrible - seriously. Most men I know do not have legs like a model and won't be able to pull this look off.

Blogger Maria Noel said ... (5:56 PM) :

omg! awesome legs!

Blogger Maria Noel said ... (5:57 PM) :

omg! awesome legs!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:41 PM) :

Forget about legs

The lips on the second male model - poutable perfection!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:44 AM) :

Thanks for making clear that the first picture was not some artistic stroke of genius on your part. Blurry does not make art.

Speaking of art, your posts from the Venice workshop are awesome. Great to see you just shooting for fun again. The shots of the girls playing in the water made me think of a pic you took a long time ago. Guy was slapping a handball. Which brings up a good point. Everyone who visits this site owes it to themselves and Sart to look at every single post, from the very beginning, to now. This was an easier task back in 2007, when I first found this site. There were significantly less posts back then. I haven't done it in a while, but as you can see, they all stick with you. You'll have a greater appreciation for his growth as a photographer, and a clearer understanding of how he's effectively cataloging the history of fashion here. Things have changed since 2005....

Obviously my respect is due and present, but you're crazy with this herringbone underwear, Sart. Good Lord, someone called this guy's legs "gams"! Unacceptable. This looks like a drag show. The guy at Pitti with the mailman shorts 6/18/09: those were good. May 08/08- those are guy shorts. These are short. They're too short, on a girl. They're too short, on a girl with great "gams". I mean, I'd take a second look. But come on.

Don't apologize for taking pics from menstyle; you're probably the only reason anyone goes there.

Blogger Crisman said ... (5:22 AM) :

1. Your 1st photo is amazing. Great Shot!

2. Shorts are getting shorter for men and I love it.

3. I am totally ripping this idea off of Dior.

Regarding the second, borrowed, photo: This is a great look. How come whenever I dress like this, everybody just laughs at me? Just wondering.

Blogger KL said ... (3:03 PM) :

Yes the cut-off method is a very inventive idea, you get some great shorts from it :) Great for the summer. <3 Prada.

Anonymous TO said ... (2:07 AM) :

John Varvatos has plaid cut shorts like this-> cool

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:17 AM) :

Ghastly & too short for the dressiness of the ret of the outfit, beach wear maybe??? Stylistically its completely out of balance & is totally messing with my head!!! wrong, wrong, wrong.

Anonymous Bombshell Kitten said ... (2:17 AM) :

There are no words to describe how amazing those pieces are. Fab!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 AM) :

Well if I had legs like that I would never wear long pants again. HAWT!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:48 AM) :

Oh, those legs -- wow! He must be a cyclist! (That would explain the shave *and* the tan, as well as the incredibly "cut" muscles!) (-:

Incidentally, I find it odd that people are commenting about this guy's legs being "too skinny," when it's *so* much easier, naturally, for a young guy to have legs like that than it is for a woman to have legs so slim at the thigh; and nobody *ever* seems to complain here about the crazy-skinny *women's* limbs being "too thin"!!

Blogger The Clever Pup said ... (2:13 PM) :

Words cannot describe how ghastly I think these herringbone cutoffs are.

Blogger youaremyworld said ... (4:25 AM) :

I worry that I might see too much thigh jiggle on men and they will have to start shaving their legs for a trend like this.

Blogger LIGHTHEADED STREET SALON said ... (10:28 AM) :

WOW - mens' legs cause a lot of controversy!

this is how my husband dresses this season! i got a handful of pairs of nice trousers from a charity shop - Pierre Cardin, Banana Republic, other mid-level brands - and cut + hemmed them about at short as these herringbone numbers. they look WONDERFUL and he loves them, and he is a straight, strapping male ex-triathlete with lovely, normally hairy men's legs.

MEN get over your repression. legs are sexy!

why do dudes feel completely comfortable whipping their shirts off at the first sign of sun, revealing bare chests, hairy armpits, shoulders and collarbone but a little leg is out of the question?

and - this model is lean, but his legs are ripped. and you can see hair on the calf - perhaps he is either blonde or just not very hairy, and even if he has engaged in hair removal, he IS a model for crying out loud.

i am really surpised at the outrage. my husband and i will continue to boldly try to proliferate this as a fashion option for the non-repressed leggy males and their female or male admirers.

Anonymous Le 21ème said ... (3:11 AM) :

Forget the shorts! They are nothing without his legs! Look at his legs. Only in dreams could mine look so good!
