Crikey.

Good advert for Brookes saddles too.

Blogger Amy said ... (11:00 AM) :

This is one of my favorite things I've seen on your site. Something about looking so cute on a casual park day, without being overdone, really draws me in. I think I need to put on a cute top and go to the lake today!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:02 AM) :

seriously, you can't beat beatnik chic. watch 'a bucket of blood' on hulu for an instant refresher.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:13 AM) :

and 'paris to the moon' is a great collection of essays when you're yearning homesick for paris.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:17 AM) :

Oh Wow!! How refreshing! This lady looks super cool reading in the grass next to her trendy bike! The picture is definitely relaxing.

Paris to the moon is by far the best book about Paris- "You breathe in your first language and swim in your second"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 AM) :

Love it, you really cant go wrong w a plain striped top

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:30 AM) :

Hi Sart,

I have been noticing a slight change on your blog. More real people, more daily life shots. I like it.

Blogger Maria Confer said ... (12:15 PM) :

oh how i wish i could see her riding the bike and in the sunlight

to me the stripes and the bike and the book and the park just makes me think of paris.

she looks kind of sad or tired

okay i like these

Anonymous style Ph.D. said ... (12:26 PM) :

Not so impressed by the reading material (aren't we done with Adam Gopnik yet?? please?), but the bike and especially her LEGS are unbeatable accessories! Did anyone see the recent little article in the Times, about personals in Craig's List by New Yorkers in love with people they saw on/with bikes? She looks like she would have inspired dozens on the day you caught her.

Anonymous suzanne nelson said ... (12:45 PM) :

she looks great! i particularly like the high waist of her shorts and those sunglasses are perfect. i love these recent street shots, for me the chic is much more subtle.

Blogger Alisa said ... (12:57 PM) :

Love this blog!!

Blogger The Clever Pup said ... (12:58 PM) :

YAy! Governor's Island. I can't wait for more pix. Michael Arenella is such a great guy.

Hey, I read her book too. Nothing wrong with Gopnik.

Blogger quika said ... (1:05 PM) :

Classic-Modern and chic to perfection.

Blogger rodkoerner said ... (1:06 PM) :

Of course, she was riding a fixie.
Beautiful woman (great facial expression!), nice shot ... I'm wondering why she didn't have a blanket to sit on...

Blogger Maria said ... (1:09 PM) :

she's adorable. such a city girl, yet she's so not fussy, doesn't even need a blanket to sit on. it's like she was riding her bike and just decided that was a great patch of grass to sit and read on.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:15 PM) :

hipsta!
she doesn't look very comfortable, and who reads with sunglasses?
one more european wannabe

Blogger Fannah said ... (1:19 PM) :

Blogger Nicole said ... (1:55 PM) :

absolutely lovely.

Blogger sdfljslkdj said ... (1:56 PM) :

Ooh, Governor's Island! Were you are at the Jazz-Age Lawn Party this year? I really enjoyed looking at pictures from that last year.

Blogger eloise in berlin said ... (2:04 PM) :

What a stunning girl - au naturel is best. Head to toes (and to her bike) perfect.

Anonymous Nan said ... (2:16 PM) :

She's so teeny and that is inspiring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:37 PM) :

who, i wonder, made those sandals?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:43 PM) :

Magnificient! Classic, refreshing, beautiful...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:48 PM) :

Wow, could this be the first trans-continental family Sartorialist spotting? You featured her sister in Paris twice in the past year, and now the big sister in NY! Style and legs appear to run in the family.

Blogger Cheltenhamdailyphoto said ... (2:48 PM) :

Gosh I love those shoes!

Blogger junglesiren said ... (2:49 PM) :

I would love to see more of the bike. The tan seat is so lovely.

I really dig what she's wearing. Very Norma Kamali 1970's-ish. Also very swimsuit 1927-ish. I ride my bike like a demon from hell and get all sweaty and intense but on those rare days when I want a chill cruise this sort of outfit is perfect.... Just not sure high waist will work on big, hard biker booty. Will investigate.

Blogger Ania said ... (2:55 PM) :

See that's why I love your photos. It's more about the idea, the vibe, capturing the moment, than merely clothes.

Anonymous S. from Z. said ... (3:00 PM) :

I also saw the Chanel movie and am going for the 1920's look, she does it so effortlessly, combining it with more modern elements, which is cool.

lovely hands and her feet look so beautiful and happy in those sandals. Gopnik is one of my favorite writers, by the way, so "style Ph.D." don't be such a boring snob. yawn.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:04 PM) :

This is what i am aiming to be in every way. Everything looks effortless yet beautiful

Blogger AlicePleasance said ... (3:05 PM) :

Hope we'll see some photos from the Jazz Age Party in the next days... Can't wait!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:07 PM) :

A LITTLE 90'S:)

Blogger Ashley said ... (3:08 PM) :

I love this look..very laid-back from the striped tank to the sandals, which are very cute. I kind of want her bike, too.

Blogger jkh said ... (3:22 PM) :

has a rolex ever looked more nostalgic?

ahhh, 20th century... those were the days.

love the shoes. the only thing that reconnects the shot with our days.

all in all a true masterpiece. vintage 2009. more of that scott, and you will outgrow your fame into a new dimension.

Blogger L said ... (3:33 PM) :

i love her sandals.

Anonymous Hannah said ... (3:39 PM) :

This is such a simple and practical outfit, yet she looks straight out of an editorial. Nice ride too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:59 PM) :

love the fact that her belt matches the bike... just seems very natural. love it!

Blogger Zoe said ... (4:11 PM) :

Very inspiring, I am just upgrading my bike with many silver parts and was worrying about it looking too shiny and technical, but she looks very cool. Quite a Margaret Howell look with the teeny shorts and stripes. And to be pedantic it's not fixed it's got a back break, but where are the brake levers?!

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:18 PM) :

beautiful. LOVE the shoes - anyone recognise them??

Blogger Lamented said ... (4:19 PM) :

She's beautiful. Such a simple outfit, yet such a class, relaxed look. "Paris To The Moon"? I'll have to check it out.

these photos look great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:31 PM) :

looking through all your photos its amazing how style is expressed through these very real individuals...like people always rave about the way celebrities dress...i think all these people's way of dressing has more character than any celebrity.

Blogger Duchesse said ... (7:10 PM) :

Style Ph.D, "Aren't we done with Adam Gopnik yet please" is the kind of remark implies you carry books for their effect, not enjoyment. And I am going to guess, the remark is by a person who has never been able to make a living from his or her published work.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:07 PM) :

Love her outfit! I have similar clothing to this! Except my shorts have white detail and super fine pleats along the bottom edges. Amazing! She looks so relaxed...

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:06 PM) :

Ah, having just returned to LA after a vacation to Brooklyn, let me say that your photos of New York are dreamy.

There is something about the mix of concrete and grass that puts New Yorkers in a mood to structure their casual looks with classy details such as excellent belts with a classic patina, a solidly cool pair of shades and hair that is neat, yet not overdone.

It is quite refreshing.

Also,I love the pendant the young lady is wearing. I picked up similar jewelry while in New York to dress up my t-shirt and jeans look.

I have a boutique to recommend to all of you who are near Ft. Greene: Barking Brown, on Myrtle.
Thank you for the nice work, Scott.

Blogger diane said ... (11:42 PM) :

Ooooo, she has that old fashioned chic look that I absolutely adore, kind of like Charlotte Rampling in Stardust Memories.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 PM) :

nice pic. it represents a lifestyle which i really want.

but i wonder is it really comfortable with those shorts, sitting on grass and reading? i always worry bugs might crawl on my thigh...

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:51 AM) :

her style is pretty average, honestly. Although as a photograph I really dig it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:10 AM) :

Can ANYONE provide onfo on those sandals??!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:14 AM) :

Positively dreamy and divine. In the top photo she looks like a female Heath Ledger.

I am LOVING your NYC photos as of late! :)

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:47 AM) :

I dig her shoes, the second pic.

Anonymous Hawthorne said ... (2:51 AM) :

She should have a race with the dude from S Portland St!!

Great photo's to start the summer, especially the way the 2nd one gives length to her legs in those shorts.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:04 AM) :

It verges on hipster for me in what looks to me such SUCH a self-conscious look, but that could be because out here in CA, when we go outside to read, we sprawl in bikinis and shorts rather than perching with Rolexes and leather-seated bicycles. She represents fashion over function I suppose.

But I like lots of the pieces individually: the sandals rock, the high-waited shorts are very cute.

Really enjoying the truly "on the street" pics ... and on the grass!

Blogger Taru Tuomi said ... (6:13 AM) :

SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE THE SANDALS: LOOKS LIKE SWEDISH SUMMER TO ME.

and she does have something to her, no doubt!
but where's the high fashion gone?
I miss it terribly! i want to see groundbreaking, fashion forward clothing, that inspire me and make me want to dress up!
modesty is great and homage must be paid to it, but i've seen enough!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:29 AM) :

Wonderful use of colour in these photographs. Great depiction of relaxing at the weekend. How for long lovely legs that too!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 AM) :

Very cool! The bike doesn't seem to be a fixie but a singlespeed, a very similar design (Charge Plug) can found for not much money.
Great to keep up the bike shots - they are an essential part of urban life!

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:12 AM) :

i like her bicycle. it makes the difference for me.

Anonymous Penelope said ... (12:08 PM) :

I find it funny that everyone jumped on the reading material... and no one brought up her plastic, throw-away water bottle. It's slightly distracting but yes she looks wonderful and pure summer!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:39 PM) :

haha.

Anonymous DLuxeList said ... (1:39 PM) :

Great photo, per usual!

Anybody know who makes them?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 PM) :

These pictures bring back happy memories of Governor's Island.

But this is definitely not an effortless look, despite how casual it looks on first glance. Look again and you'll see her slightly self-conscious poses--sharp grass isn't that comfortable on the bare upper thigh area. Exposing your legs can be just as bold as exposing your cleavage. Both can induce modest gestures or confined movement.

Anonymous Just me said ... (4:30 PM) :

Blogger OwenW said ... (11:59 PM) :

Wonderful photo. BUT, I can't believe for one second that this is her bike. She would ride THOSE pedals in THOSE sandals. Not likely!

Still, it's such a nice photo...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:12 PM) :

As a cyclist of the retro vein I have to say I admire the bike, looks like lugged steel, brooks of England leather saddle, clips and straps. I wish she would turn the handle bars the other way, unless her wheel is just turned around, I cannot tell. All in all very nice with a good job of taping. I ride with the same old style 3 speed bars taped all the way up like those, comfort.

Yea, she looks good too but I don't think she can use those pedals with those shoes.
