Comments on "On the Street......Sunday in the Park, Governor's Island"
Amazing photos!
Lucy =)
Love everything from her bike to her shoes!
Love the second pic!
Crikey.
Good advert for Brookes saddles too.
This is one of my favorite things I've seen on your site. Something about looking so cute on a casual park day, without being overdone, really draws me in. I think I need to put on a cute top and go to the lake today!
seriously, you can't beat beatnik chic. watch 'a bucket of blood' on hulu for an instant refresher.
and 'paris to the moon' is a great collection of essays when you're yearning homesick for paris.
Oh Wow!! How refreshing! This lady looks super cool reading in the grass next to her trendy bike! The picture is definitely relaxing.
http://thetrendydwarf.blogspot.com/
I love this!
One of my favourite looks here in what seems like ages.
www.fashion-intervention.blogspot.com
I really like her shoes!
Paris to the moon is by far the best book about Paris- "You breathe in your first language and swim in your second"
Love it, you really cant go wrong w a plain striped top
Is that a fixed gear bike? Coolness...
She looks so relax
her outfit is great I love black and white stripes
After seeing the Coco Chanel movie I was just thinking I absolutely need a striped tee in my wardrobe!!!
Mind reader!
i love her sandals :D
lovely pics,
gloria
xxx G&L
i love everything about this woman...especially her legs!!!
I haven't seen a 10 speed bike with those kind of handlebars in ages.
Cute sandals tho.
Makes me wanna lay in the grass with a basic striped dress!
sexy sandals!
Hi Sart,
I have been noticing a slight change on your blog. More real people, more daily life shots. I like it.
love her outfit and bicycle.
I love you NY photos best because the women are beautifully dressed while actually looking like they're able to walk somewhere.
it's so relaxing!!!
I like the simple sets.
kisses .
bloo.
oh how i wish i could see her riding the bike and in the sunlight
to me the stripes and the bike and the book and the park just makes me think of paris.
she looks kind of sad or tired
okay i like these
Not so impressed by the reading material (aren't we done with Adam Gopnik yet?? please?), but the bike and especially her LEGS are unbeatable accessories! Did anyone see the recent little article in the Times, about personals in Craig's List by New Yorkers in love with people they saw on/with bikes? She looks like she would have inspired dozens on the day you caught her.
she looks great! i particularly like the high waist of her shorts and those sunglasses are perfect. i love these recent street shots, for me the chic is much more subtle.
Love this blog!!
YAy! Governor's Island. I can't wait for more pix. Michael Arenella is such a great guy.
Hey, I read her book too. Nothing wrong with Gopnik.
Classic-Modern and chic to perfection.
Of course, she was riding a fixie.
Beautiful woman (great facial expression!), nice shot ... I'm wondering why she didn't have a blanket to sit on...
she's adorable. such a city girl, yet she's so not fussy, doesn't even need a blanket to sit on. it's like she was riding her bike and just decided that was a great patch of grass to sit and read on.
hipsta!
she doesn't look very comfortable, and who reads with sunglasses?
one more european wannabe
ooh i adore the shirt + skirt combination :D
I have that same bike seat! Lovely shot ;)
That is so summer!
Great photos!
someone must know where those shoes are from.... anyone? anyone??
absolutely lovely.
Ooh, Governor's Island! Were you are at the Jazz-Age Lawn Party this year? I really enjoyed looking at pictures from that last year.
What a stunning girl - au naturel is best. Head to toes (and to her bike) perfect.
She's so teeny and that is inspiring.
who, i wonder, made those sandals?
Magnificient! Classic, refreshing, beautiful...
Wow, could this be the first trans-continental family Sartorialist spotting? You featured her sister in Paris twice in the past year, and now the big sister in NY! Style and legs appear to run in the family.
Gosh I love those shoes!
I would love to see more of the bike. The tan seat is so lovely.
I really dig what she's wearing. Very Norma Kamali 1970's-ish. Also very swimsuit 1927-ish. I ride my bike like a demon from hell and get all sweaty and intense but on those rare days when I want a chill cruise this sort of outfit is perfect.... Just not sure high waist will work on big, hard biker booty. Will investigate.
See that's why I love your photos. It's more about the idea, the vibe, capturing the moment, than merely clothes.
I also saw the Chanel movie and am going for the 1920's look, she does it so effortlessly, combining it with more modern elements, which is cool.
lovely hands and her feet look so beautiful and happy in those sandals. Gopnik is one of my favorite writers, by the way, so "style Ph.D." don't be such a boring snob. yawn.
This is what i am aiming to be in every way. Everything looks effortless yet beautiful
Hope we'll see some photos from the Jazz Age Party in the next days... Can't wait!
A LITTLE 90'S:)
I love this look..very laid-back from the striped tank to the sandals, which are very cute. I kind of want her bike, too.
http://fashionroadkill-halifax.blogspot.com
has a rolex ever looked more nostalgic?
ahhh, 20th century... those were the days.
love the shoes. the only thing that reconnects the shot with our days.
all in all a true masterpiece. vintage 2009. more of that scott, and you will outgrow your fame into a new dimension.
i love her sandals.
This is such a simple and practical outfit, yet she looks straight out of an editorial. Nice ride too.
love the fact that her belt matches the bike... just seems very natural. love it!
Very inspiring, I am just upgrading my bike with many silver parts and was worrying about it looking too shiny and technical, but she looks very cool. Quite a Margaret Howell look with the teeny shorts and stripes. And to be pedantic it's not fixed it's got a back break, but where are the brake levers?!
beautiful. LOVE the shoes - anyone recognise them??
She's beautiful. Such a simple outfit, yet such a class, relaxed look. "Paris To The Moon"? I'll have to check it out.
http://lamentedaesthetic.blogspot.com
Lovely !
i love paris to the moon
Both these photos are so perfect and calming! I love her pose & the scenery. So gorgeous.
In my next life I'll have those legs.
Wow your pictures are amazing, like always...
hookthelook.blogspot.com
love this!! exactly what i would want to be wearing on a sunny day - if only we could all do it so effortlessly...
http://www.itsonlyfashion.net
This reminds me so much of living in Paris! She is amazing! Her shoes are so simple, and yet so sexy!
- le 21ème
so fresh!!
buttonsandbowsla.com
Wow, she looks so peaceful.. The bike's a great piece in this photo, just randomly thrown on the grass, I love it.
Michelle
these photos look great.
looking through all your photos its amazing how style is expressed through these very real individuals...like people always rave about the way celebrities dress...i think all these people's way of dressing has more character than any celebrity.
Style Ph.D, "Aren't we done with Adam Gopnik yet please" is the kind of remark implies you carry books for their effect, not enjoyment. And I am going to guess, the remark is by a person who has never been able to make a living from his or her published work.
Love her outfit! I have similar clothing to this! Except my shorts have white detail and super fine pleats along the bottom edges. Amazing! She looks so relaxed...
Magnificent photos.
what a lovely summer!!
wonderful weather this weekend in the city - i went to the park as well - it was beautiful!! i love her top!
xox.
The Voguette
Ah, having just returned to LA after a vacation to Brooklyn, let me say that your photos of New York are dreamy.
There is something about the mix of concrete and grass that puts New Yorkers in a mood to structure their casual looks with classy details such as excellent belts with a classic patina, a solidly cool pair of shades and hair that is neat, yet not overdone.
It is quite refreshing.
Also,I love the pendant the young lady is wearing. I picked up similar jewelry while in New York to dress up my t-shirt and jeans look.
I have a boutique to recommend to all of you who are near Ft. Greene: Barking Brown, on Myrtle.
Thank you for the nice work, Scott.
great shot!!! amazing summer... beautiful...
I'm a straight woman and I can't decide whether I want to be her or marry her. Amazing.
Ooooo, she has that old fashioned chic look that I absolutely adore, kind of like Charlotte Rampling in Stardust Memories.
nice pic. it represents a lifestyle which i really want.
but i wonder is it really comfortable with those shorts, sitting on grass and reading? i always worry bugs might crawl on my thigh...
her style is pretty average, honestly. Although as a photograph I really dig it.
Nice bike
yes, yes, yes, I like this. very refreshing..
She looks lovely.
Chicmuse
http://thechicmuse.blogspot.com
Killer...the high-waisted belted shorts with the sinuous sandals...
F. Scot Fitzgerald would have tripped on his tennis racket to get to her.
Can ANYONE provide onfo on those sandals??!!!
Positively dreamy and divine. In the top photo she looks like a female Heath Ledger.
I am LOVING your NYC photos as of late! :)
I dig her shoes, the second pic.
She should have a race with the dude from S Portland St!!
Great photo's to start the summer, especially the way the 2nd one gives length to her legs in those shorts.
SERIOUSLY!!!!! ANYONE KNOW WHO MADE THE SHOES AND WHERE YOU CAN GET THEM!?!?!!?
Sorry to shout, but I MUST know!!!!!
Fantastic shot, great shoes and striped tank.
theheartbreakinc.blogspot.com
how is it that everywhere else in the world it seems you can ride a bike without a helmet except in australia?!
trying sooooooo hard...
Such a great shot, captures Summer perfectly!
www.notavailablesorry.blogspot.com
I'm new - check it out :D
It verges on hipster for me in what looks to me such SUCH a self-conscious look, but that could be because out here in CA, when we go outside to read, we sprawl in bikinis and shorts rather than perching with Rolexes and leather-seated bicycles. She represents fashion over function I suppose.
But I like lots of the pieces individually: the sandals rock, the high-waited shorts are very cute.
Really enjoying the truly "on the street" pics ... and on the grass!
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE THE SANDALS: LOOKS LIKE SWEDISH SUMMER TO ME.
This girl's living proof that less is always - but always - more.
Once again, well done for spotting her and thanks for sharing this with us.
Cool sandals! If that is...that the anklets are part of the sandals...
DIVINE
they're lovely pictures,
and she does have something to her, no doubt!
but where's the high fashion gone?
I miss it terribly! i want to see groundbreaking, fashion forward clothing, that inspire me and make me want to dress up!
modesty is great and homage must be paid to it, but i've seen enough!
everything is so great about this look!
check out m blog if you have time ttp://granenamorado.blogspot.com/
p.s. i love your blog
It's summer and in this picture you can see what a green grass can do with a beautiful girl is wearing stripes.
pretty legs.
Wonderful use of colour in these photographs. Great depiction of relaxing at the weekend. How for long lovely legs that too!!
Very cool! The bike doesn't seem to be a fixie but a singlespeed, a very similar design (Charge Plug) can found for not much money.
Great to keep up the bike shots - they are an essential part of urban life!
i like her bicycle. it makes the difference for me.
I find it funny that everyone jumped on the reading material... and no one brought up her plastic, throw-away water bottle. It's slightly distracting but yes she looks wonderful and pure summer!
haha.
Great photo, per usual!
I love the sandals... does anyone know who makes them?
I tend to not love looks with shorts, but she looks truly fabulous.
This lady is incredibly sexy.
I need to go to Governor's Island!
Wow, love the sunglasses/striped shirt combo. Wish I could see what the shorts really look like, but oh well. The bike is really neat!
Pretty summer shot.
Love the look, NEED THE SANDALS!!
Anybody know who makes them?
a romper. fabulous! great legs and notice her cleavage is not exposed to her waist and no high heels. sexy - effortless. sexy - attitude. sexy - can't be faked.
so very sexy cool. I want to look that cool.
independentmovement.blogspot.com
lovely. beautiful shorts and sandals. lovely girl.
This shot is incredible. How does one wear such a short shorts and still look so elegant? Must be how the legs and feet are being captured by the lens.
there is something incredibly timeless about this photo...its hard to tell which era it will belongs to...i also love how this photo gives an insight not only to her style but her life style as well!
Fantastic pictures
These two look close...
Diba Women's Lu Lu Ankle Strap Thong Sandal
Glaze by Adi Women's Ankle Strap Sandals
The look is perfect, like summer :)
I love the 3 s's
shoes
shorts
shirt
This makes me want to move too NYC!
These pictures bring back happy memories of Governor's Island.
But this is definitely not an effortless look, despite how casual it looks on first glance. Look again and you'll see her slightly self-conscious poses--sharp grass isn't that comfortable on the bare upper thigh area. Exposing your legs can be just as bold as exposing your cleavage. Both can induce modest gestures or confined movement.
I really need to know who makes those sandals. Simple, stylish, comfortable
love the top!
great summer shot!
Shoe freaks (like me): Cydwoq Vintage Line sandals "Heli" are pretty close to what she's wearing.
http://cydwoq.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CYDWOQ&Product_Code=WVN-HELI&Category_Code=WVN-SANDALS
lucky bike.
Wonderful photo. BUT, I can't believe for one second that this is her bike. She would ride THOSE pedals in THOSE sandals. Not likely!
Still, it's such a nice photo...
As a cyclist of the retro vein I have to say I admire the bike, looks like lugged steel, brooks of England leather saddle, clips and straps. I wish she would turn the handle bars the other way, unless her wheel is just turned around, I cannot tell. All in all very nice with a good job of taping. I ride with the same old style 3 speed bars taped all the way up like those, comfort.
Yea, she looks good too but I don't think she can use those pedals with those shoes.
Lovely relaxed style. The shoes are amazing!
this is great. love it
Sexy bike. The masculinity of the diamond frame and toe-straps are absolutely gorgeous touches.
OMG, one of my favourite pictures on here in a long time.
Love the outfit, love it with the bike more.

Love these photos! Has a very relaxing and effortlessly cool feel about it.
www.bigdropnyc.com/twitter
the sandals! love them.
The shoes are fabulous!
Yep, I'm pretty sure those sandals are the Cydwoq Vintage Heli (so cute), which I just discovered are on sale at Ped Shoes. Cydwoqs are my favorite.
Love the whole Saturday in the park look!
I love this picture even more than the Russian girl in a red jacket (the one with suspicious hotdogs). It's a really really cute picture.
doesn't it remind you of that classic photo of marilyn monroe reading ulysesses?
http://www.weblo.com/asset_images/large/Marilyn_Monroe_Reading_Ja_48e888a072f78.jpg
Great look, spectacular legs!
Reminds me of the 90's. Teenage randomness, carefree, alternative rock and dreams.
This girl looks like Lolita. The hot pants and the bicycle really remind me of the movie.
