The dress looks beautiful. I love the stringy Louboutains.

Blogger Stefan said ... (10:59 AM) :

I love the poetry of the shot. Besides the fact that the dress is quite stunning, I enjoy how things hang in the photo.

...her hair to one side, the tasseled details on her shoes, her dress, her left hand over her cellphone, the handle of her bag...

(I'm definitely an art historian at heart)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

Blogger erin nuts said ... (11:14 AM) :

I like this. It's hard to wear a piece that involved without looking very trendy, but she paired it nicely...in some ways not as interesting as it could be, but she definitely knows how to flatter herself and play up that dress. I think it's beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

She looks fierce! Not only is she gorgeous but she also looks like a strong, confidant woman. The flowing dress compliments her flowinig hair.

Blogger green lantern said ... (12:13 PM) :

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:14 PM) :

Each day I look forward to being inspired by the personalities which shine through the clothing of lucky subjects of the Sartorialist.

My Grandmother alway said to always wear pretty panties when you go out, just incase the wind picks up your skirt..but I will tell my children to always look fabulous just incase the wind brings the Sartorialist your way.

Blogger brandt said ... (12:20 PM) :

What a beautiful dress!
Like she's wearing a Hermes silk scarf...
Her leather accessories and long hair give her a unique Mongolian/Native American look.
If she's not a model, she's one pretty lay-person!

Blogger soulbitch. said ... (12:35 PM) :

She is beautiful. I like the color of her skin, and hair, and the shape of her eyes. The whole appearance makes a French Polynesian impression on me. And of course her high heels are amazing.

Anonymous AnonymousJK said ... (12:37 PM) :

Dress? What dress? Did you see those shoes?

Blogger The Urban Flaneur said ... (12:38 PM) :

Great dress, but gorgeous shoes! One of those things from which women can profit better than men. I really fancy the attitude. The Urban from Barcelona

Blogger rachel red lips said ... (12:45 PM) :

Blogger Tereneh Idia said ... (12:48 PM) :

I love this look. Everything everything about it. Perfection.

But I have to say I am confused about the "exotic" "modern Pocahontas" etc. statements. When will women of color simply be considered beautiful women and not objectified?

She is beautiful. Period. Full Stop.

Blogger Virginia de la Reynares said ... (12:52 PM) :

Love the dress!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 PM) :

but i want to see her standing. the dress, the shoes - so much content but sitting drops the context.

Gorgeous. perfect.

Anonymous Tammy said ... (1:33 PM) :

To Idia'Dega ...

I can understand your point for the word "exotic," but why would thinking that she looks like the Disney character Pocahontas be "objectifying" her?? She has the same skin tone and cheekbones as the cartoon depiction. Don't be so angry, missy.

Sincerely,
Another woman of colour

THE SHOES

THE SHOES

Blogger Dina Belyayeva said ... (2:25 PM) :

Gorgeous girl. The dress complements her looks. But the shoes? Oh yeah, they are Louboutins and cost a forture, but they are not flattering. The surprise effect of a dissonance in the outfit wears out quickly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:29 PM) :

Gotta love the shoes!! <3

Blogger Orkun said ... (3:05 PM) :

Straightened back, just a little less skirt on the left leg, nice long hair falling free from the shoulder, and the smile hidden between her lips, makes her, irresistible..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:06 PM) :

Wow! Many, many people will pay money for this attitude. How do we bottle it?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:06 PM) :

Waiting for your next picture was worth it! Great Scott, I love this!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:16 PM) :

This word is completely overused, but the photo is fierce. Particularly those shoes, and I generally hate that style. Great eye.

Anonymous PRGirlLondon said ... (3:25 PM) :

Forget the stereotypical blonde surfer, here is a true representation of an Australian. Unknown nationality (we're all originally from somewhere else), fierce femininity, gorgeous taste, at peace with the land that surrounds us. I think your photographs are beautifully conveying Australia, for once, as the land full of surprises and sartorialist delights for which it is.

Anonymous Ioana said ... (3:29 PM) :

She's full of inspiration.
Beautiful outfit, but the attitude makes it special.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:30 PM) :

Blogger Philophile said ... (4:08 PM) :

Not Pocahontas, but someone lifted from a Gauguin painting.

Fashion magazines should be filled with women who look like like this as opposed to blank-faced 15-year-olds from Eastern Europe.

Anonymous AVW23 said ... (4:32 PM) :

She looks like an exotic animal ready to pounce. I love it. Borderline harsh but that's the Sydney aesthetic: femininity derived from sexual presence/awareness more so than coquettish romanticism.

Blogger Linn said ... (8:20 PM) :

Wow! Love it!

Anonymous holierthannow said ... (8:28 PM) :

so i am going to rephrase what i said earlier in this commentary-

sites/photogs like Sart changed the way fashion works and also changed the way we think about ourselves (our outfits).

When it became conceivable that someone could photograph just-any-old-someone just for their outfit, the next obvious cultural phenomenon was not thousands of hipsters standing on the corner at Prince/Mercer waiting for him. We did what all 21st Century reality-show-as-lifers do: we started taking pictures of ourselves and posting them on the internet.

What's interesting to me is that despite the fact that I can and do look at hundreds of "personal style" sites a day, the work of Scott, Garance, Nast and a few others still exists in a category of its own, not because of the looks that are captured as much as the SPIRIT THAT IS CAPTURED. See: this photo.

This is what separates artists from the average documentarian, and why other sites will never make this one less relevant.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:33 PM) :

wow. oh wow.

she is something else. magnificent and mysterious.

I love how there is something androgenous and strong about her features, yet a very sensual and feminine quality to her as well.

Truly bewitching.

Blogger Ashley said ... (8:49 PM) :

A beautiful, colorful print on a beautifully shaped dress. The nude fringe Loubs are the perfect pairing.

I'm pretty sure she's the store owner of joystores, boutique in Brisbane. Correct me if i'm wrong. She has impeccable taste in style as it reflects the amazing Australian/International designer clothing she sells.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:05 AM) :

Whow!! My favourite in a long long time. She cannot be Australian! (Have to badger the Aussies). The clothes are sublime, but the best thing is that Vogue could not do a better job of this shot! Her screw you pose, her face. Amazing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 AM) :

yea yea.."exotic" and "pocohontas" references galore! how ridiculous! love her outfit (on her), love her face structure. not a fan of the shoes actually ( can it be?!) i like natural looks, not high maintenance street walker. BUT she looks good..how does she come up with this???

Blogger Etefel said ... (4:42 AM) :

A really cool look. The style looks really effortless even though the pieces that she is wearing are a choice for a brand conscience. That's how I want to use designer clothes and accessories.

To PRGirlLondon:
"we're all originally from somewhere else"
Be careful... We're a nation of many origins, yes, but this is Aboriginal land. And in light of the horrendous divide we have in our country, we must never forget our indigenous people and their 40,000+ year prehistory with the continent we now know as Australia. I know your comment wasn't malicious of course, but please keep it in mind.
Peace.

Gorgeous gal. Next time you come to Sydney you should consider spending some more time in the Inner West -- Newtown, etc. You've got so many fine shots of eastern-suburbs-type people like this beauty, but the Inner West is full of delightful flashes of stylistic brilliance (amidst the cliches, like anywhere).
