It's like: the best of the eighties + dicretion and restraint = Vika in Paris. Love her nonchalance too. Great post!

Blogger The Concrete Commentator said ... (9:32 AM) :

love love love. that coat with shoulder pads is...hmmmm...Not a word to describe, I love it so much!

Blogger Mark P-H said ... (9:34 AM) :

like how the gold belt makes the trim of her aviators really show up

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (9:47 AM) :

This is lovely. It's the eighties without seeing her underwear!

Blogger miss sophie said ... (9:47 AM) :

the big-shoulder look isn't really my thing, but i appreciate how she really pulls off the proportions of this silhouette without completely losing her own shape. and that gleam of her gold belt completely anchors the look.

Blogger Move said ... (9:49 AM) :

perfect!!!!

Blogger Alison Rowe said ... (9:52 AM) :

Well-composed of various angular shapes. I especially like the belt...a little gold is needed to break up all the black, and this one is the perfect finishing touch! Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 AM) :

great sartorial accomplishment...she also wears my favourite type of tights!

Blogger Oni said ... (10:00 AM) :

It is Black again... The accesories, the belt and shades add a nice touch to an otherwise plain outfit.

Blogger Mr. Badami said ... (10:08 AM) :

looks good....but also looks like a jedi warrior

Anonymous Elaine said ... (10:19 AM) :

Only a woman as beautiful as this one could pull off this hairstyle. The magnificent belt cuts the somberness of this outfit. Such art in this photograph - the balconies, the man's silhouette in the background, the green plants, and that she is standing on a white square/rectangle...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:21 AM) :

Everything about this photo is perfect! This woman is an enigma... a beautiful one. From the aviators to the heels this woman is a force to be reckoned with. I love this image. Tres bien.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 AM) :

star trek anyone?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:42 AM) :

This is so perfect it makes me want to giggle. So Paris.

Blogger J. Rene' said ... (10:51 AM) :

She can totally rock this look! Very beautiful and strong.

Blogger Amra said ... (11:01 AM) :

Makes you wonder 1.what she's thinking of, and 2.where she got that belt from.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:18 AM) :

Well, she is undoubtedly beautiful, and all the accessories are great and chic, but did we really need to have the eighties back? And the padded shoulders? REALLY????? Beside that all the rest of the look I find it stunning as her distant expression.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:53 AM) :

This is a smokin' hot look.I love how the 40's vibe is pulled of with the 80's big shoulders and the rockabilly hairdo.
So many pretty ladies with short haircuts out there...makes me want to chop it all off and give it a try!

Blogger Hannah Stephenson said ... (12:04 PM) :

Holy David Bowie, Batman!

But those shoes...wow.

Blogger Leigh said ... (12:08 PM) :

Hi, I love all your photos. I was looking through NPR this morning and thought of you while reading this:

Anonymous Hannah said ... (12:13 PM) :

I adore this look! The simplicity combined with the aggressive 80s edge is to die for.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:23 PM) :

She looks a little bit like Batman...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:36 PM) :

no silhouette should be put to rest. everything is cyclical.

this ensemble proves that power and the feminine are one in the same.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:05 PM) :

She reminds me of Leslie Winer back in the Eighties. Remember her?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:09 PM) :

I learned about the Sartorialist from Bill Cunningham's On The Street feature on NYTimes. I am addicted to both!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:50 PM) :

Looks unashamedly 80's, and normally that would make me hate an outfit - but this is just great. Topped off with a wonderful haircut.

Anonymous Xavier said ... (3:37 PM) :

This is such a hot look. I love everything about it. Especially the hair.

Blogger Ruhvana and Flanelli said ... (4:07 PM) :

This is something I would definetly wear. So stylish and beuatiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:09 PM) :

i have found my style icon! love the mix of masculine hair and stance with the quirky, feminine outfit. i generally have doubts about how well wardrobe reflects one's personality, but is there any doubt that this woman is amazingly cool, intelligent and interesting?

Blogger crystal said ... (5:41 PM) :

Love everything about this! Very androgynous.

Blogger arina_holina said ... (6:42 PM) :

She is Russian couturiere - Vika Gazinskaya!

Blogger Celia said ... (8:24 PM) :

Could she BE any cooler? I think not.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:48 PM) :

Boss-eighties look. Nice shot aspect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:01 PM) :

That is one ugly coat. Those shoulders are clearly just hanging there empty. But the rest of the outfit, including haircut and shades, is great and suits her.

Blogger Anthea said ... (9:04 PM) :

SOOOOO STLYISH!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:04 PM) :

BOWIE?!

Anonymous lola said ... (9:34 PM) :

This girl is so cool and femenine

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 PM) :

No, no,no! I strongly dislike this look. Shoulder pads? Aviators? And that hair?

Anonymous m.edwin said ... (10:37 PM) :

interesting but... i hope not with the shoulders. the 80s are still too close for me and i cringe every time it's tapped for inspiration.

Blogger Pixienish said ... (11:26 PM) :

Ahh I love Vika! One of the best people to streetstyle ahaha :D

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:04 AM) :

its smoking hot. it just is.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 AM) :

Black how... original. Lol

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 AM) :

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:02 PM) :

For me, the belt and the glasses totally bump this outfit up from simple chic to HOT. I'm really digging that belt.

Anonymous Thomas Davies said ... (3:30 PM) :

Sci-fi chic.

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (7:58 PM) :

The shapes echo each other, but to what effect?

Is the economy getting to The Sartorialist?

GORGEOUS!!!

Blogger Clams said ... (1:38 AM) :

Vika is always bad ass. She can never do wrong in my book. I don't know if anyone agrees with me but I feel like Vika always finds the best way to meet architectural with organic. She is rad!

black = chic
i love it!!!

Blogger beths said ... (8:30 AM) :

The shots of Vika here are always instructive, but I guess I'm the only one who finds this one, especially the hair, somewhat dreary. Maybe it's the color, or the fact that we're in April now?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:47 AM) :

this is sooo cool !! I am dazzled by her outfit :D

Blogger Lara Parent Photography said ... (10:54 AM) :

Blogger venus'housecampaign said ... (11:04 AM) :

stunning!! xxx

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:47 PM) :

I always think about one thing when I see her: what will be the best for Vika - to be designer or stylist? In the the situation when the most of fashion's workers don't know what to wear - cause designers don't know what to produce in crisis( pure luxury, closer to client, low budget...), Vika shows high level of fashion passion, which became more & more rare... So sometimes She looks better than her collections)
Respect from Russia.

Blogger Mara said ... (11:10 AM) :

Love. Very Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow with a hint of 80s Cold War tension and hint of Jetson future world. Bad ass. Feminine. Nonchalant. Elegant. Dangerous. She rocks.

Blogger Annie said ... (9:55 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:57 PM) :

Near perfect, not quite though, simply because I don't think the whole shoulder thing is working on this.
