Ooooo. I love it. Love the scarf. Love the jeans. Love the rips and tears. I'd probably substitute converse for the boots, but that's just because I like to be uber comfortable.

i love that the lapel of her jacket continues the architectural 'lapel' of the opera house behind her. brilliant composition, scott!

I wish I had legs like hers. They remind me of unsalted pretzel sticks. Beautiful...

Blogger Lucy said ... (10:25 AM) :

Her outfits has a lot of ideas and interesting details... great picture, by the way =)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:29 AM) :

Miss Sophie points out the artsy echo of the lapel and the opera house roof, so I don't have to! But really, you have outdone yourself composing this one, it's gorgeous! Girl and clothes ok, too.

There is something so wonderful and chic about the simplicity of her outfit. I adore the ease of the cuffed jean juxtaposed with the glam boots.

Plus, this is one of the most visually stunning pictures I have seen.

Chic woman wearing chic clothes. What else is there to add! Oh yes! Sensational!

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (11:20 AM) :

I am writing this before I read the rest of the opinions: she will NEVER look back at this picture and think: "why was I ever wearing that?" This is classic and timeless, even though some of the lines in her jacket are also quite contemporary. Jeans and black, never out of style! Jorge from WPB

Blogger pink horrorshow said ... (11:20 AM) :

I wish we could see more detail of the boots, they look so cute with the peep of socks showing!

Are those givenchy's shes sporting? They look awfully similar to a pair I tried on but did not fit!

Blogger junglesiren said ... (12:24 PM) :

Lovely shot, Sart. There's so much movement in the woodgrain and the iconic opera house in the bg looks like the spine of some prehistoric reptile.

The girl's nice looking too.

This is a basic outfit, a uniform really that is seen everywhere and on every blog and yet still looks good, if not original. You really have to be looking closely to notice any differentiations. In this case I think her jacket is navy and not black.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 PM) :

Why are you always in teh right place at teh right time? Her minimal/architectural style goes with the opera house behind! FANTASTIC!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

Her boots are the best !!

Blogger meg manion silliker said ... (3:25 PM) :

some day i will look this good in a pair of jeans!!

Anonymous ktcita said ... (3:39 PM) :

@junglesiren the "woodgrain" is actually sandstone. Sydney is built on it... lots and lots of sandstone. Love your description of the opera house.

That warm evening light makes me very homesick. The best time of the day for portrait photos.

Anonymous princess glee said ... (3:43 PM) :

Ooo short socks with booties and rolled cuff jeans. I hadn't thought of it. Are the socks glittery? Doesn't matter, mine will be glittery and/or argyle.

The composition of the picture is gorgeous. Don't quite understand the reflecting(?) wood part at the bottom. Doesn't matter, the beauty is already etched in my archives for future use.

Blogger JULES said ... (3:45 PM) :

her jeans are perfect as well as that scarf, everything is great really

Blogger Valentin Xavier said ... (4:21 PM) :

I love to watch your photos, Mr Sartorialist.

And this's not because models are beautiful and welldressed, but because on your pictures they are pride of them.

Anonymous Caroline said ... (4:33 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

Sorry but fake distressed denim is oh so very naff. The joy is in doing it yourself over the years and not getting someone in a factory to rub chemicals onto them for you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:02 PM) :

She is waiting for the fun to catch up!! I like how you ground the shot with the opera house in the background...it can only be in Sydney, where you wait for the fun to catch up!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:45 PM) :

What an amazing photograph! Beautiful!

Blogger M&S said ... (7:21 PM) :

Woow beautiful woman and nice pic !

i like this girls look!! not too 'try hard' but strong too!great angle and beautiful sunset colours on the sandstone wall - really nice image Sart!!!
hope you can venture away from Fashion week and find the 'real' Sydneysiders...would be interesting to see what you will see!

Blogger Daisy said ... (10:11 PM) :

She's too cool for school!

What do they do in Australia that makes their sky turn saphire? All of your shots have that amazing background color, it looks really different from the sky here in California.

Blogger Daisy said ... (10:13 PM) :

p.s. I just noticed that double shadow from her legs. did you set that up? that's amazing!

Anonymous Emilie said ... (10:17 PM) :

This shot is incredibly beautiful to me. Her and her outfit, the wood (?) she is sitting on, the opera in the background, the contrast of the curves in the opera and the curves in the wood, the shadow of her legs, the blues in her jeans, blazer, and the sky, those boots.... Brilliant image!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:31 PM) :

Gorgeous Sydney dusk sky, stone, harbourside, hues, and effortless unaffected style. Makes me homesick.

Anonymous amelia said ... (11:29 PM) :

PrincessGlee -

That's not woodgrain but rather sandstone. Sydney has lots of sandstone around - a lot of our older buildings in town are made from that material.

Blogger Patrick Mercier said ... (12:21 AM) :

What a nice depth of field in this shoot (and a superb model too)!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 AM) :

jeans is the hit and with black/blue jacket it's really good. The shoes can be more experimental and the look is elegant now.

Blogger Cassie Jo - Tofuscloset said ... (12:57 AM) :

this is a great photo!!!

Blogger Tracey said ... (1:52 AM) :

Sadly, I think this girl looks European, visiting the Opera House as a tourist. Sigh, I don't think we, Australians, have done ourselves proud. We should do better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:52 AM) :

is that kate ritchie aka sally from home and away aka summerland?

Blogger Slop and Porridge said ... (4:11 AM) :

What an amazing photo! a simple yet striking outfit against the brilliant backdrop of the Opera House and clear Sydney sky. Loving your work here in Australia. I'm devastated I've moved to Newcastle, 2hrs north of Sydney- I miss this being my home!

Anonymous Jude said ... (4:16 AM) :

Lovely Sydney icons... The Sydney sandstone used in the low wall is stunning. It's beautiful lines are in perfect harmony with the sails of the Opera House - as is Sammie's scarf -see how it drapes on the right hand side.

Sart - did you strategically place her scarf in that exact position?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:36 AM) :

The sunlight brings out the beautiful colour of the Sydney sandstone and there is a lot of it in that old part of Sydney. The harbour and The Rocks are a great location for your photography. Great having you in oz. We don't do shoes like Milan (as per this website) but we often have good clothes.

Anonymous Richard said ... (7:02 AM) :

Junglesiren,
Thats not woodgrain buddy.
Thats Sydney sandstone - dug out of the ground by convicts.

Would have liked to have seen some shots of real Sydney - does the Opera House and Harbour Bridge have to be in the background of all (ok, most) of the Sydney shots - boring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:12 AM) :

am i the only one not so hot on those jeans? great composition though. there must be more melbourne pics sart?

Anonymous candice said ... (9:22 AM) :

very cool shoes

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:21 AM) :

To anonymous: Scott isn't in the right place at the right time; his skill is in making anyplace right. I looked at the pic again today and am still awed by it. The opera house can be a cliche, but by minimizing it here you get the location and the house is not the star, the whole composition is. Clap, clap.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:22 PM) :

Really great Scott.

The collar - The Opera House. Wonderful blue Sydney sky...

Blogger lipsticklondoner said ... (12:26 PM) :

Blogger Gabrielle said ... (9:58 PM) :

Blogger Amanda said ... (10:01 PM) :

beautiful photo. It's very australian, and not just because of the opera house in the background. She looks very casual and carefree...i like how her socks are picking out just a little at the top of her boots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:29 PM) :

This is fabulous. I really like the look of boyfriend jeans and she has managed to make a lovely, sleek look with the ankle boots and the blazer and scarf. Love it!

I wonder how you came across this one. All your shots seem to be by "accident" yet at the same time it looks as though you spent a whole afternoon planning it all. Do you bring much equipment with you?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:18 AM) :

she looks very very cool

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:27 AM) :

I love the composition of this shot. :)

Anonymous princess glee said ... (2:04 PM) :

I'm deeply sorry for mistaking sandstone for wood. I'm not familiar with sandstone and may have never seen it before. Judging from the comments, the people in the land of oz seem very proud of their sandstone and are very willing to defend it against wood.

Anonymous Katerina said ... (6:52 PM) :

Is this your first visit to our city? I appreciate that you've come here to see Sydney- it's a shame we are so far from Europe and America
I hope you've enjoyed Sydney and will come again, to see our beautiful women and handsome men.
