Brilliant: makes him laugh; makes me laugh too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:47 AM) :

Too nerdy for my taste...

Anonymous steamerbag said ... (9:54 AM) :

Optical density. Good. Australia.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:56 AM) :

At first glance I wasn't sure, but the shirt and the sport coat go so nicely together.

The hat is also pretty cool too.

Blogger Syed said ... (9:56 AM) :

Immmmmelda. Love the polka dot bottoms and that jacket looks fab. Not really brave enough myself to try mixed prints like this, but it looks so amazing!

Anonymous loveclothesbutgotnomoney said ... (9:57 AM) :

i love the mac as the accessory, a different look from the cigarettes most of the Europeans have in your pictures

Blogger Stefan said ... (9:58 AM) :

Cute photo. Personality really shines through. Strong glasses, cute hat.

While I like the fact that the colours were kept to a minimum to make way for the clash of patterns, I am left boogly-eyed. I prefer simplicity.

Blogger 3253128 said ... (10:07 AM) :

oh imelda, you have my heart forever
<3

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:15 AM) :

well,well...

Blogger MaXiM said ... (10:21 AM) :

What a fucking geek dandy !

Blogger miszmilk said ... (10:23 AM) :

I love the mixed prints of the shirt and coat. And then dapper kid mentioned the polka dot pants. I probably prefer it without the polka dot pants. Nevertheless a very bold outfit to wear.

Blogger Lucy said ... (10:23 AM) :

This is so so cute!

Anonymous SallyO said ... (10:24 AM) :

Great outfit but I think he's giving us "the finger"...

Blogger kayang said ... (10:39 AM) :

This is so cooolll!!

Blogger tasha_juliana said ... (10:39 AM) :

this is so precious!

Anonymous Grace said ... (10:40 AM) :

I want to be friends with this little adorable man.

Blogger Paul said ... (10:53 AM) :

Mixed prince - but a travesty without the shoes. I'm just sayin, is all.

Blogger Tricia said ... (10:54 AM) :

Imelda! Fabulous plaid mix, and everything you could want in a shoe blogger.

Blogger Joanna Lee said ... (11:03 AM) :

Does it mean something...the position of his fingers? Hmm... The clothes are a bit too busy for me, but the man is adorable!

On second thought, the addition of the hat, glasses and iMac...ironically seem to make it cuter. Of course, the brilliant smile makes up for everything!

Did he speak to you or just laugh! Curious character!

Blogger seawallrunner said ... (11:06 AM) :

I want to be friends with him. I bet we would laugh lots and have a lot of fun.

Blogger Celia said ... (11:06 AM) :

bravo to this man! this ensemble makes him so squeezable!

Anonymous jennine said ... (11:11 AM) :

i wouldn't doubt that imelda is giving us the finger.
what a cutie... i love him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:16 AM) :

Love those nerds! I'm a geek girl now!

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (11:18 AM) :

I would NEVER try this but it looks good on him. Perhaps too good to the point of the clothes wearing the person? How many of you (without going back to the picture) can you recall, from memory, anything about the subject?

Blogger Audreaming said ... (11:32 AM) :

love the whole ensemble especially the smile- best accesory!

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (11:32 AM) :

Really alive looking. So energetic and positive. A credit to Aussies everywhere..

Anonymous suzanne nelson said ... (11:37 AM) :

He pulls this off well! I like the way his bold spectacle frames define his face and of course he has a very infectious smile.

ps - Sart, if you have time please write about some of your impressions of Australia so far, i for one would be very interested.

Blogger daisy kate said ... (11:58 AM) :

I don't think that anyone but this man could pull this off, but I adore it, and how gorgeous is his smile? Definately the best fashion accessory.

Anonymous Stephen said ... (12:18 PM) :

Applause for his courage to pull off such an complicated look. He's the Sydney equivalent of a London Pearly King.

Blogger K.Line said ... (12:25 PM) :

That's Imelda Matt and he's fantastic as can be. Love him - this shot is terrific. Really captures his animated personality.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (12:25 PM) :

He has perfected geeky cool.

He looks fantastic.

Blogger CW said ... (12:33 PM) :

Would you buy a used kangaroo from this man? Too much plaid. Each piece on its own would be good. Together, they do not work.

(I used to have that shirt (Lands End, c. 1988) before I donated it to charity.)

Blogger threehares said ... (12:59 PM) :

What can I say, other than geek chic? You need a lot of personality to pull this off, and he does it brilliantly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 PM) :

omg stanford blatch is real!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

please will someone explain to those of us stuck in the northern hemisphere who or what is 'imelda'??

Anonymous Helena said ... (2:13 PM) :

Too much mixed prints, but the guy is so cute, with lots of "joie de vivre"! And the mac, too!

Blogger arms.akimbo said ... (2:31 PM) :

His best accessory is his smile

Blogger Seeker said ... (2:38 PM) :

OMG it's Imelda Matt!!!!!!!!
He's such a fantastic person, I so love him and his smile!!!!!!!!!
I think this shot really shows a bit of his amazing personality!!!

Well, I'm in the northern hemisphere and I know Imelda Matt, the best editor of the best shoes blog.

Anonymous Teagan said ... (2:46 PM) :

epitome of fabulous.

Anonymous Butch Decossas said ... (3:23 PM) :

Love the plaid!

Anonymous princess glee said ... (3:29 PM) :

If I saw this geek on the streets I'd have to immediately chat him up. How could you not? I'd want an excuse and an opportunity to look closely at what he's wearing. I believe I'd determine that he's a self-made geek and that's perfectly fine. True or self-made, either way is quite chic.

Blogger Philippe said ... (3:30 PM) :

The print"DoT-MiX" is really interesting, like it...

Blogger Tony Post No Bills | Washington DC said ... (7:25 PM) :

I love the play on plaids + its brought together by the frame less glasses. Also makes me want to ask...is this an add for apple?

Blogger Mark Tillman said ... (7:31 PM) :

Great look. I've been trying to find a good way to mix plaids with my own stuff for awhile now, but no luck yet.

Is anyone aware of a place where I could purchase a similar hat to his online?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:40 PM) :

I think it's pretty obvious that Scott is on the take from Apple. Did they give you a free Macbook for that? I suppose I would have done it do... :(

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 PM) :

Does anyone know who the designer of his jacket is? I am on the hunt for it now!

Blogger Patrick Mercier said ... (12:19 AM) :

He's missing a bowtie !!! (and perhaps a plain accessory such as a pocket square ;))

On another note, we can feel that his outfit embraces his personality. Thumbs up !

Blogger Sheri said ... (6:50 AM) :

matt! way to go!

see imelda in all his glory:

http://www.imelda.com.au/well_shod_well_imformed/

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:39 AM) :

So my dad was ahead of his time. He loves to mix plaids, and when I would question his choices he would say, with an injured tone, "but they both have blue in them." Of course, his style runs more toward Archie Bunker meets John Goodman on Roseanne.

Blogger Fashion Hayley said ... (8:00 AM) :

Wow its my friend Matt. Love his look like always. Go Imelda!

Blogger Imelda Matt - The Despotic Queen of Shoes said ... (8:47 AM) :

I'm not sure of the protocol of commenting on one's own Sartorialist but I wanted to say thank everyone for their comments. I also wanted to say the jacket is vintage and was bought in Sydney, the pants a ginham check not polka dot - although I kinda wish they were.
The Mac Book, I was actually updating a blog post while I was racing between shows. The rest of the questions I'll answer on my blog.

Anonymous francis said ... (10:38 AM) :

From his hat to his pants, every items make me smile :) so cool so humorous. That's the thing I want to have. thanx.

Blogger Olviya said ... (10:43 AM) :

thats how eras are facing!

Blogger Caroline Bingley said ... (10:52 AM) :

This look is hardly nerdy. I would say it's a wonderfully adventurous flip of on the preppy, but it maintains the same ethic of wearability..
If this could be said, it reminds me of the mail version of something in their black fleece fall collection:
http://www.brooksbrothers.com/BB_BlackFleeceProduct.process?IWAction=Load&Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=966&CurSeq=0&topParent=womenlooks

Anonymous Huxley. said ... (11:11 AM) :

What a bloody legend!

Blogger Gary K. said ... (12:00 PM) :

Sorry, but I find nothing appealing about this at all. It's nerdy as all get out, and honestly, pretty ugly. Kudos to the guy for daring, but seriously, this looks, frankly, pretty ridiculous.

Blogger Caroline Bingley said ... (12:13 PM) :

lovely, I meant "male", not the postal service.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (2:52 PM) :

Once you go back, you never go back.

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:20 PM) :

I like the mix of plaids and dots, with the nerdy glasses. But, why do his head and hands look gigantic? Is this photo digitally altered? Weird.

Anonymous Marcela said ... (5:24 PM) :

This one is my favorite!
Best pictures I have seen in awhile.

Anonymous Megan (AusAnna) said ... (5:35 PM) :

i love imelda! haha and carrying his apple open. ahhh love it.

Blogger make believe said ... (8:02 PM) :

Met the d'vine Imelda Matt backstage- what a sweet treasure AND a dresser he is! This suits him perfectly and that is what matters no?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:35 PM) :

I like the outfit, but the bag is really awfull! In my opinion the bag is a part of the outfit, and here the bag ruins the outfit! It is not difficult to get a nice cheap pc-bag!

Blogger J. said ... (9:09 PM) :

It takes guts and a lot of confidence to pull off so many prints at once, and he's doing an AMAZING job at it.

Blogger Ron said ... (11:08 PM) :

I can only assume he's Googling sartorialist.com to see if it's for real.

Blogger Kent Johnson said ... (11:10 PM) :

Matt Rocks,

I used have some lovely check Harry Thurston shorts just like that jacket, those were the days :~(

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 AM) :

Blogger s2rt said ... (2:30 AM) :

Blogger Neroli said ... (2:41 AM) :

All hail the Queen of Despotic shoes!! Imelda! Imelda! Imelda!

Love it Matt. There is nothing worse that the unadventurous. Now you've been Sart'ed world domination is almost a foregone conclusion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:51 AM) :

imelda matt is fabulous, and has rapidly become an authority on fashion here in Australia in the blogosphere.
And as you can imagine, is pissing off the long lead media to no end.

Many stinging comments flying about of his up to the second postings of the shows this week. Of course, we're all loving the controversy.

Blogger underneath said ... (6:20 AM) :

Très symathique!

Blogger Lifestyle said ... (2:22 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 PM) :

I'd like a mini polka-dot on the shirt even though I couldn't pull it all off. I wish they made pants like that with a looser fit. More oversized than slouchy/baggy.

Blogger Hickers said ... (6:37 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:03 AM) :

Awfully ostentatious. Can't say I'm a fan. Perhaps he could use a black skinny/narrow tie to bring it back down to earth.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:58 AM) :

Love this! Cool laptop bag too
