this is so great!

i also love that the first photo is the epitome of elegance and grace and that she has a bandaid on her knee!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:33 PM) :

the band-aid is a nice touch

Anonymous Mahmutta said ... (5:34 PM) :

Love her shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:35 PM) :

Looooooove the top jacket

Blogger Angeles Almuna said ... (5:37 PM) :

She is fantastic and avant garde to me! Fabulosa!

Blogger thimbles and gingham said ... (5:45 PM) :

she's very avant garde. incredible.

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (5:46 PM) :

The second photo - what an excellent use of line. There are two silhouettes going on, diagonal line, vertical line, horizontal line. She's also got the different textures that mirror the textures in the background. Shiny and matte. Good look, great photo.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (5:46 PM) :

I've seen a million pictures of Carine, but the first one is really original. Haven't seen this kind before.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Love the top photo. She embodies the state of high fashion to perfection...Worn out, tired and wounded. The fact that she is wearing fur is quite a nod to being completely and utterly out of touch. Pictures certainly are worth 1000 words. You, sir, are in a class of your own. Standing ovation for this one.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Don't like the drained-of-all-blood-lips look, especially in the first picture. She needs some color. The whole effect, clothes, make-up, strikes a monotone chord that's anything but uplifting.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

i do not know about these. maybe if the band aid was of a cartoon or barbie? it might make a difference. or it would just be funny.

Blogger Maria said ... (5:54 PM) :

She's my hero.

Blogger Dan Thawley said ... (5:54 PM) :

In the top photo Carine's Rick Owens FW08 Jacket is so beautiful and luxe, adds a softness that she often lacks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:55 PM) :

it's great that she has style but doesn't lack in a sense of humor. the band-aid makes the photo

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (5:56 PM) :

Absolutely A M A Z I N G ! ! !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:56 PM) :

One word: Ferosh!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

it's all about the band-aid, it makes her come off much more charming and unstudied than i would have expected

Blogger Cassiopeia said ... (6:00 PM) :

Just. Beautiful.

Sigh.

Blogger Anu said ... (6:03 PM) :

*gasp* she's exquisite.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (6:03 PM) :

funny
i didn't notice the band-aid

Blogger MeG said ... (6:04 PM) :

wow!
amaizing! i love all her clothes
her shoes... they are a dream!

Blogger Mo said ... (6:12 PM) :

that new york picture is just so chic, Carine is so 'sartorially" wise

Blogger Bronwyn said ... (6:36 PM) :

I think I can now stop worrying about my wrinkly neck.

Blogger Betty Blackbent said ... (6:40 PM) :

The bandaid makes her so much more, I don't know, like a flesh and blood woman instead of a fashion icon...because that's the spot where EVERY woman I know cuts herself shaving.
Nice new hair color, too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:41 PM) :

Her clothes are amazing, as always. But I like her better with darker hair. She looks more "average" without her raven tresses...

Anonymous downunderboy said ... (6:43 PM) :

I think she is amazing and I love her style. The band-aid on the knee is somewhat questionable however. Why? Why, would you do that? Surely there could have been a better way to conceal whatever was under there? Hosiery? Concealer? Trousers? A longer skirt?

All that aside, I still think she is brilliant and an icon of fashion and I love her.

Blogger M said ... (6:53 PM) :

Completely in love with her.
And with you.
I have just write some compliments about you...

Blogger alexander stadler said ... (7:04 PM) :

It's like what if Maplethorpe and Patti smith had a baby!

Blogger Venus said ... (7:13 PM) :

I too noticed and deeply appreciated the band-aid. It makes that outfit. It's a gorgeous outfit anyway but the band-aid definitely provides an interesting counterpoint that throws it in sharp relief.

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:20 PM) :

Its funny you didn't notice it but that we all did! That was the 3rd thing I saw, after her eyes and the fur.

I watched the CNN video of her recently and that also humanized her a ton; so now when I see the band-aid it seems very real to me.

What strikes me about both pictures is the silhouette. She wears pencil skirts often and I think she always knows how to dress her body very well. I love to see the shape and fit of her clothes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:01 PM) :

Drop Dead Chic .

Blogger P.Gaye Tapp at Little Augury said ... (8:08 PM) :

W O W perfection!

Blogger Dawn said ... (8:08 PM) :

The coats are incredible. Loving the shoes in the last shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:37 PM) :

It's so wonderful to see someone who is truly embracing the idea of aging gracefully, not running away screaming from the progression of time. She is beautiful because she is not beautiful, at least not in the same way that the models that grace per pages are.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:15 PM) :

Carine! Her plaster! Her dark eyes!
I'm in love.

Blogger IAMTHEANGELNEGRO said ... (9:31 PM) :

she si cool! so style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:02 PM) :

No one feeds my avant-garde-street-fashion-in-under-ten-minutes fix like you!!! THANK YOU from the smallest town in the world puyallup, washington.

Anonymous Fashion As a 2nd Language said ... (10:17 PM) :

Carine Roitfeld bewitches. She's a chic working mum and industry leader; a journalist who can focus on a garment's seam, then zoom out to see the big picture; and a refreshingly real woman who knows herself so well, she can wear extraordinary clothes in a matter-of-fact way. Every picture of her inspires. Thank you for these!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:38 PM) :

jeeesus she is so chic and i love the band-aid haha
everything about her says chic, classy, and at the same time fun, approachable, and most importanty down to earth.

as avant-garde as her wardrobe choices may be she still maintains an aura of relatability which i admire...

and the shoes in the last pic...sickkk.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 PM) :

Photo #2 is nice but #1 made me snicker. I mean, come on! This looks like a trapper in the wilderness treking out with the whole animal strapped to her chest. The fact that she looks so poorly (dark shadowed eyes, and sickly expression) doesn't help.
Sometimes this fashion stuff is too ridiculous.

Anonymous Matthew S said ... (11:03 PM) :

she's fabulous in any ways. And I do like her more than Anna Wintour ;-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:16 PM) :

Carine Roitfeld in one word "Chic".

Anonymous princess glee said ... (11:19 PM) :

The fur sweater/vest in the top pic is so very hot in a primative way. The fur, the cashmere(?) sleeves, the wool skirt are all so very tactile and I want to lightly touch them all and ooh and ahh.

Bottom pic, unfortunately even Carine the Great in allover black looks as if there's something missing to keep the look worth noticing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 AM) :

SHE'S my Fashion Icon!

-VD-

Blogger gilty pleasure said ... (1:04 AM) :

stunning

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:11 AM) :

great pics, love her fascinating mood and style.

Blogger its for your own good said ... (1:27 AM) :

i do not like the top outfit. but something tells me she does not care.
i do like the bottom outfit. but something tells me she doesnt care about that either.

Blogger yling said ... (1:42 AM) :

Carine's expression is seriously like the Mona Lisa - I stared at it for a good 30 seconds and could not figure out if she was smiling, grimacing, or just nonchalant. Her eyes are brilliant, and her style is obviously, incredible.

Blogger Diana Brito said ... (2:37 AM) :

That is one cool lady...

Anonymous George said ... (2:40 AM) :

love her soooo much!!!! that fur is beyonnnnnnd!

Anonymous NOT EXACTLY THE SAME said ... (2:55 AM) :

Just perfect both, even with the Bandaid on the Knee!!!!

Blogger COCOCOZY said ... (4:10 AM) :

La classe! So amazing

Blogger Ruhvana and Flanelli said ... (5:39 AM) :

I love the second photo, but the first one? i'm not so sure about that one...

Anonymous Mia V. said ... (6:00 AM) :

wonderful pair of pictures.

what's interesting to me is seeing them against each other. In the first, the cascade of fur really functions as a kind of armour; it's toeing the line between luxury (the kept woman in furs and pearls look) and the nomadic huntress. Takes quite a character to be able to do both at the same time!

In the second picture, there's the same sort of slightly militaristic touch to the coat...

it's something I always love about France, the ability to mix the sensual with a kind of rigid order.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:04 AM) :

LA CLASSE DE LA CLASSE

She is just beautiful

Blogger Patricia S. said ... (6:27 AM) :

Amazing shoes! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:29 AM) :

i love the band-aid on her knee! certainly added a kick to her super fab outfit! :)

Blogger suzzee said ... (8:49 AM) :

her style is so effortlessly chic, it's just madness

Anonymous suzanne nelson said ... (8:57 AM) :

I predict band-aids will be the hot new accessory for Fall 09.
Forget about 'It' bags and Louboutins, it'll be all about where you position your bandaid and it's all your fault, Sart...

Anonymous Heather said ... (9:20 AM) :

Ummm, it's an adhesive bandage. People use them for cuts and abrasions. Maybe she hurt herself after she had already dressed and left the house. I think she looks great and it's good that she dresses open wounds. Sometimes I think the comments on here are a little crazy.

Anonymous Royelyn said ... (9:34 AM) :

FABULOUS!
She's the only one that can pull a Rick Owens fur jacket with a band-aid.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 AM) :

I think I will have to watch the aforementioned CNN video to understand the compliments.

Blogger The Voguette said ... (10:22 AM) :

oh carine. i aspire to be you one day.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:45 AM) :

Get it with that band-aid, Carine!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:12 AM) :

In the second picture, she looks very natural, whereas in the first she looks a little woozy. I know it's her rock-n-roll thing, including the band-aid on the knee, but I don't find it flattering. I'm not crazy about the fur thing either--the belt seems too high and the sleeves too long. Undoubtedly rock-n-roll again.

Blogger Lee said ... (11:43 AM) :

the band aid just proves she's a "real" person. she's amazing in style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:19 PM) :

Darn it Carine looks like Iggy Pop....and that's a very good thing in my eyes. With her, its all about the 'tude, not the clothes. This is a woman who loves what she does and isn't afraid to show it.

Blogger philosopher said ... (12:25 PM) :

I love the lines, but hate the fact that she's wearing fur.

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (12:35 PM) :

I used to think by looking only at her pictures, that Carine was a very serious woman, even severe. It was wonderful to discover -in a TV show about her- that she has a great sense of humour, that she is really charming and spontaneous. It is funny to realize how, now that I got to know a little about her, I get to appreciate even more the great outfits that she creates for herself. As mentioned above, picture #1 is astonishing! Bravo!

Anonymous dagna said ... (1:38 PM) :

one day I`m going to work for her
haha

you`ll see

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 PM) :

so perfectly chic...

Anonymous Geoffrey said ... (3:19 PM) :

SWAGGER!

Blogger artadviser said ... (4:07 PM) :

i love the way she puts her leg.... she reminds me of a little girl, although a very sophisticated one. I like the contradition between the fragility of her delicate body and the strengh of her green eyes.... She´s more beautiful in person!!

Anonymous Magsli said ... (5:12 PM) :

Corine could wear a polyester pantsuit and still look more amazing than most! As usual she looks fantastic!! And seriously, who knew that fur and band-aid was such a winning combination?!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

Oh Carine-- even in fashion-victim pigeon-toe stance you are beyond sensational. She puts the rest of the editors to shame.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:08 PM) :

she is soooo much better than anna wintour

Anonymous Heights of Fashion said ... (9:07 PM) :

Ahhh CARINE darling, CARINE.

YOU NEVER NEVER FAIL ME!!

LOVING ALL THIS FOX FUR...IT LOOKS AMAZING. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF ANOTHER PERFECT MOMENT.

Anonymous Nan said ... (9:20 PM) :

She's just flat-out very cool. Always has been.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 PM) :

is it true??? Are you really coming to Sydney for fashion week? i hope so!

Blogger so said ... (11:19 PM) :

she always looks amazing!!
the colors of #1 are really calling to me, and the casualness of the shape of the fur.
...and i'm going to guess that perhaps there was some sort of stiletto accident that required the application of the band aid.

LOVING that black coat!!

Anonymous Charlotte K said ... (11:36 PM) :

I've seen her interviewed and was surprised at how nice & open she is...because to me, band-aid or no, she looks completely unapproachable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:13 AM) :

She is a breathtaking woman.

Both pics are gorgeous. The silhouette, the confidence, the proportion of that goddam fur coat.

One problem: fur.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:43 AM) :

though lady!
I'm not really down with dead fur but that coat is beyond good.

i like this woman's spirit and I find her inspiring.

Anonymous Frockaholic said ... (8:32 AM) :

Cool.

Blogger Justine said ... (8:10 PM) :

I think band-aids are about to make a comeback...

Anonymous Sam said ... (1:56 AM) :

I love Carine! She's so amazing and nice to whoever she meets and that's what makes her so much more likeable and pleasant than Anna, even though Anna doesn't seem too bad. Carine has a good-natured, friendly heart plus she's always wearing something amazing, bravo Carine vous etes magnifique!

P.S
the bandaid is amazing, who knows? It might just end up being the next fashion fad!

Blogger Penny Lane said ... (5:24 AM) :

I love how chic she is, she doesn't have to change her hair to change her look. So chic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 AM) :

I'm stuck on Band-Aid brand 'cause Band-Aid's stuck on me! Uh, I think she should change her hair (a bit shorter and away from her face). Love her clothing selections, she is one to watch (obviously). I dig the look in her eyes--almost a concerned disconnection.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:11 PM) :

Carine! the picture of perfection. the bandaid was the 1st thing i noticed, and as someone mentioned earlier it totally humanized her! makes me remember that she's a real person not just a magical, amazing, can-do-no-wrong French Vogue editor in chief...

Blogger Thomas said ... (5:19 PM) :

fabulous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:59 PM) :

Only she could pull off that fur wrap. And the second photo is divine. She is INCREDIBLE.

Blogger Aviatrix said ... (1:53 AM) :

oooo0000OOO, Meow!

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (2:17 AM) :

I would love all the stuff going on in the first picture if her hair looked clean. The dyed fur is amazing, and the colors are a great accompaniment.

But then there's her hair...

Anonymous jane said ... (4:59 PM) :

she has an inner style that you don't see often. so much so that she wears a band-aid on her knee.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:41 PM) :

the bandaid is so endearing.

Blogger D.K said ... (1:00 AM) :

First picture : Gorgous. gorgeous?
except the bandaid on her knees, use a foundatino or somethin i mean if its only that big why even bother putting a bandaid on.

Second picture all i can see is sheos.

Blogger Florence said ... (12:41 AM) :

Ah gorgeous Carine, Does anyone know where the black coat in the 2nd pic is from?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:36 PM) :

Black is chic. Never-ending trend.
