Comments on "On the Street......California Girl, Paris"
I love the colour accent of the red in the hat and gloves in the first photo, then such a great relaxed coat following onto a cute purple accent! Love cold weather layering.
oooh i love it!
love the turbans. very striking.
very beautiful.
*bisous*
I love her style. She looks chic with a twist, and she is wearing the clothes and not the other way around.
i like her. but maybe need color or something modern.
Like a silent movie star. Dramatic and enigmatic. Love the 1920s-inspired goings-on on her head, and the black and white coat in the middle picture.
i like her shoes on #2 & 3! nice blog!
I love that second picture....
What an interesting bracelet.
great hat but panama will be better in spring!
She's a mysterious character...
she looks like someone from RISD!
http://risdstreetwalkers.blogspot.com/
I love the hobo chic-ey kind of thing she has going on. It's elegant and unfussed at the same time. It looks like it comes naturally to her.
I would throw in some more colour though!
love it especially the turban and the coat
http://www.styleanthem.blogspot.com
she looks so otherworldly! like a chic apparition from weimar germany or 1920s paris...
it's a look that few can pull off without looking costumey, but she does it with total conviction.
Fantastic! This is how to wear black --with interesting texture and shape.
definitely not the stereotype of a 'california girl'.. she's fabulous!
the first photo is just divine. her make up and the turban are wonderful!
the very definition of having a personal silhouette and style. very admirable.
2 thumbs down. It looks sloppy. I can't even find any 1 element I like.
haha
love the turbans so much
dramatic !
comfortable and lovely and simple. i like the flirty bits of colour peeking out from the black. the first picture is my favorite. as a fellow wearer of turbans, headwraps and other accoutrement of the noggin, i applaud her!!!! brava!!!
She doesn't like her hair?
Inspirational! She looks so great - do you know this person or just see her a lot? Very cool. Glad to see a sister California girl here!
Love all the looks. But I covet her eyebrows especially. Is that weird?
usually i'd find this type contrived. for some reason this girl exudes something that call pull it off without being contrived at all. not to saccharine either.
I like this beauty and the red hat!
It's chilly and rainy here today. I would love to wrap myself up in that second outfit (minus the head gear).
I also may potentially like the turbans...but I have to agree with who said that it looks sloopy...
Thumbs up! Don't get the Cal girl thing though.
I love her Clara Bow smile, it's mysterious and beguiling. She looks like she just fell out of 1931 :)
What a great example of finding a few great pieces and using them in different ways. I've heard Parisian women are experts at this, no?
What a lovely style! The red gloves are such an amazing complement.
Although I must note...I do not know what about this evokes California. =] Here, I've never seen anybody wear so much black.
She's got some stuff going on IN her head and ON her head. The stuff ON her head is so original, what do you even call it? It goes well with her overall gypsy look. Perhaps she is or she comes from true gypsys. The mood IN her head appears playful and dark and introspective. I like all the pics, she's updated the allover black look with bits of color.
This could so easily look contrived an costume-y, but it looks perfectly natural on her! Very striking and interesting.

Are you and Garance trying to start a turban revolution?! DON'T YOU DARE!
This lady's unusual looks make the outfit work almost in a tarot-card-reading chic kind of way. But a turban is not a toy. It's not to be considered lightly or messed about with. If you wear it you must commit and if you commit you better be able to pull that shit off otherwise you'll look seriously ridiculous.
Just my humble opinion.
ps - love the middle and last pictures - lovely clothes, lovely girl. And see, California girls don't all look like Hugh Hefner cast-offs.
Very cute. I like her head wear! Great looks!
Kisses from Paris!

She is so pretty, who is she?
Wonderfully consistent personal style!
That deep crimson for lipstick is always so lovely... Just had to switch out mine for something more spring-like.
Seems slightly contrived.
She definitely has a style all her own. A throw back to the 20's. Love her burgundy lipstick.
Totally love the hat. A great addition to the outfit. It creates a sophisticated look with a classic touch - an essence of 1920's chic.

now there's a turban i LOVE (last one).
california girl? looks like lower east side/tel aviv girl to me.
nice girl
Seems more jazz age, 1920s circa eccentric to me...
I love the drama. Drama is perfect for winter and for Paris; why not? Livens up the gray.
She looks great. Calfornia? I'm not sure either, but definitely a great retro-chic look (and not trashy retro either). Her choice of fabrics and colors make her look nmore than one-dimensional. It's not just an outfit, more like a well thought out musical arrangement in clothing. Great perspective on this woman, BTW.
Oh, I can see the California. (c: She looks like she's had a go in the vintage/thrift shops and made her own look. She's not taking anything - including fashion - so seriously that she has to meet others' expectations of how she should look.
Surf's up!
which part of california?? i'm moving!! ;)
Also the effect of the red coloration on the buildings in the first two photos.
5s that a turban or a cleverly wrapped scarf? *muses*
I love the Turban, it's so Baba Cool as the French say. Also, kind of 40's Parisian madame. C'est chic, n'est pas?
She's quite pretty, LOVE her eyebrows,
But my real concern is this headline... California Girl? I am sitting smack dab in the Silicon Valley currently, and there is no way anyone here would describe that as anything close to Californian style. In fact, no where in Cali do people dress this way. So even though i think she is fabulous, and even if she is Californian.... she definitely does not dress like one.
I'm not saying we all look like "Hugh Hefner barbie dolls" but we do have a certain casualness/hippie/urbaness that is very... well for lack of a better word, our own.
"california girl? looks like lower east side/tel aviv girl to me."
agreed.
What an amazing style! Love the 2nd pic, with the striped cardigan, the layering's just beautiful!
Is she really from Cali? She looks so nice!
i love the first picture. The gloves just jumps right infront of me, and lovley cardigan she is wearing.
she is striking, it takes a special kind of woman to pull those gorgeous turbans off.
She has that French Sonia Rykiel vibe goin.
i'm speculating that she is originally from California. and you can find pretty much any style represented here on our mythical Spanish isle. our television exports may portray us all as surfers and plastic surgery queens, and indeed those looks may appear to dominate in our seemingly bottomless suburbs, but if you know where to look we have it all.
Hmmm, I guess Silicon Valley Geneeeee has never ventured up to the artsy parts of San Francisco or the East Bay, where this stylish soul would fit right in. Go see dance or experimental theater in a small venue in the Mission, or go to an art opening, and this is indeed California style. Just not mainstream.
On me it would look silly and costume-y, but on her -- yow! All three suit her to a T. I especially like the third
Silicon Valley isn't representative of where I lived in So Cal for over twenty five years. Nor is it representative of the streets of San Francisco, Hollywood, Orange Co, or San Diego that I knew and loved in my travels up and down the coast. Silicon Valley is very conservative. Get out and live a little. Go to the clubs. Go to the bookstores. You'll see. Even the IE can get pretty interesting.
I would pick her for being from somewhere Huntington Beach to as far North as Long Beach or anywhere inbetween.
cool dramatic looks!
that second outfit is stunning
All three looks are great!!! It's so inspirational to see someone step out with boldness and not be just part of the crowd. Bravo!
who is she?
i love her!
i'm from california, and people here definitely don't dress that well.
www.pasdenomfille.blogspot.com
Geneeee, you need to get out of Silicon Valley, girl. San Francisco is just a turban's throw away from you. Silver Lake, Hollywood.... Personal style doesn't always come to you, sometimes you've got to go to it.
While hers is not a common look (even in Paris) she would fit right into many neighborhoods in San Francisco, Oakland and L.A. Hell, even Pasadena - home of the Rose Queen!
There are plenty of people in California with great personal style it's just that the celebrity culture that California is associated with makes it look like everyone is a wannabe Lindsey Lohan/Ed Hardy loving/Uggs wearing/fake tan abusing/shallow/vain/insipid fashion victim.
Au contraire!
she's so beautiful...
Persepolis !!
She's amazing, i adore those turbans. i think all of three outfits are stunning.
I love the consistency of her style. She looks great.
I adore this look, this is exactly how I would love to appear. She is in control of her appearance, in control of the clothes. Utterly unique!
I love this.
xxx
I love this photo!

Haha this is a friend of mine!!! YES she is from california to the non-believers! Not from LA of course!! She looks fab in all those pics! Go girl!
great style clothing-wise, but I think her makeup would make the look even better if it were a bit less heavy-handed....
She has a mysterious sex appeal.
Love the second coat.
She is able to wear the very contrasty black and cream coat because of her bold coloring. I kind of envy that; I can't carry it off. Therefore, that is my favorite of these three shots.
She looks like a gypsy! but wouldn't be surprised to see her here in LA..
Do you naysayers really think that millions of people dress like the people you see on tv?? Weird.
Ghazi???? Is that you???? You look great!!! Definitely a California girl
I like the look, a bit Anais Nin and Pris in the twenties. But i don't like her eyebrows, sorry, nor her shoes. Really fancy new shoes would lift the whole lady up a lot.
Worn out shoes is a No No even how beautiful you are,
I love this girl's strong dark makeup. She's mysterious.
THAT IS GHAZALEH
SHE IS FROM SAN FRANCISCO
She may be from California but she is a fully naturalized Parisian, style-wise.
I love the headgear, the eyebrows, the lipstick.
She is Colette in a timewarp.
Ghazi you look gorgeous! Hope you're doing well in Paris (it looks like you are!!) xoxo Krystina
She spoke at the CFDA Awards!
ooh she's like a gorgeous fortune teller. it really works wit her dark eyes and strong brow.
wow, I love this exotic-vintage look...very personal and stylish
And i like how she combines the black with some touch of intense colour!!
I love the dress and coat in second picture. The dress is so long and yet she still does not appear dowdy and i totally get the film noir vibe!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
so creative.
love her style. here's more about her:
http://www.academyart.edu/news/academynews.jsp?type=CampusNews&article=/news/campus_news_0337.html
very cool!
ahhh...the headwraps, the coats! the thinness...shucks!
I very liked this look! Cool and lovely vintage...
I love your blog... It is fabulous!
Bye!
Fantastic!
first pic, that's how to wear red gloves.
Loving the navy(?) knit. Great choice of outfits.
BElla , Bella., forever contemporanea!
Kisses
she is magical.

i know her! that's ghazi, how wonderfully random...
i went to high school with this girl! she won best dressed when she was a senior! so proud to see her here...she dressed so well back then too, that was in 2006 i believe. :)
