I love to look at the stylish New Yorkers you've been posting lately but everything about their outfits screams "Expensive!"
Maybe a few more people whose complete ensembles probably total under $1000?

Anonymous modediktat said ... (5:10 PM) :

Wow, thei soicture is amazing!! Would love to have her cape :)

Blogger CW said ... (5:13 PM) :

This is the NYC cousin of the plain Parisienne. Better boots, better bag, but still too much black. Still funereal.

Also, it is more practical to wear a longer coat when wearing stretch pants/tights.

Blogger john benjamin pritchett said ... (5:13 PM) :

Wonderful coat and leggings. The boots add flair and are great! On top of great style she's beautiful! Wow! Terrific photo! Let her down gently, though, and tell her I'm already married...

Blogger CW said ... (5:14 PM) :

Follow-up - the bag in foreground would probably work for both men and women.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:21 PM) :

Looks like kate moss! MARA

She looks cold!! This is why I avoid capes.

Blogger Lori said ... (5:43 PM) :

I need those boots!!

Anonymous Marisa said ... (5:49 PM) :

Absolutely love the buttons on the coat. And I would die to have those boots...

Moscow look

Blogger hc said ... (6:20 PM) :

despite simplicity, there is always something New York that breathes through the photo lenses.

it's the sardonic conflict in it's inhabitants face, going somewhere, never posing, and beautifully oblivious to the fact of our glamarociousness.

Blogger diane said ... (6:22 PM) :

Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or are her buttons going from large to smaller?

Blogger Erin said ... (6:23 PM) :

LOVE this. It just looks so personal...I feel like she very specifically bought every part of this. Simple and serious but still very sexy, but somehow she keeps it sweet also.

Blogger EL said ... (6:28 PM) :

It's not necessary all expensive....I have that cape, and it's Kate Moss for Top Shop last year. Love her look though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:43 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:59 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:11 PM) :

Does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy great black leggings like these? they seem to be the perfect weight- not too bulky.

Blogger Sarah said ... (7:24 PM) :

Please tell me where I can find those boots!!!

Blogger Sarah said ... (7:24 PM) :

Please tell me where I can find those boots!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:51 PM) :

With all due respect to this lovely woman, she looks like a caped super-hero.

I don't get the "bottomless" look but I especially don't get it with a cape.

Blogger travelbug said ... (7:51 PM) :

By including the purse in the foreground, are you asking us to replace the one she's wearing?

I would. I think her outfit would be more dynamic with the first purse.

Anonymous RINA_KAHN said ... (7:58 PM) :

how is the weather in nyc? i am coming on thursday and wondering what to pack?

Anonymous ghazi said ... (8:04 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:51 AM) :

the bag is so great and the shoes too, love the structure of the garment and the busy mood.

Blogger C.L.B said ... (4:16 AM) :

Love the whole look. The bag in the foreground is amazing.

Blogger ♥ Chloe said ... (5:19 AM) :

Holy moly, gorgeous.

Anonymous Leanne said ... (5:35 AM) :

Burberry Lowry bag yes?

Anonymous ghazi said ... (6:58 AM) :

Why does everybody wear total black??
My feeling is that it's all about insecurity and the lack of confidence (or is it knowledge?) to deal with color..."You can't go wrong with black" is the invariable and silly statement offered as a response...Ironic because consequently the message sent is: "I have no idea how to dress otherwise"!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:00 AM) :

A bit blah to me except for the bag. Why do New Yorkers have to dress in black top to bottom?

Blogger Syllora said ... (7:09 AM) :

amazing shoes, love it!!!
she's so chic. Black is not only in Paris or NYC, it's everywhere...

Anonymous ghazi said ... (7:10 AM) :

I'm leading here and now a crusade against black color...My feeling is that enough is enough! It doesn't make sense that, for example in Sydney, on any given day in Summer when temperatures reach 40 degrees plus, the "stylish" go about town fully dressed in black sweating and gasping for air, does it? Whatever happened to the idea that one would tune in with the seasons which leaves little room for black especially in a country like Australia.

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (7:32 AM) :

The buttons becoming larger from top to bottom really lends a bit of whimsy to that cape and maybe even to her.

Why are people afraid of color? I guess there's less thought as to whether things work together if it's all black. There are even professions where it really pays off and others where it's the uniform of the day. Maybe that's her life.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:49 AM) :

I'm not 100% sure but i think her bag is a PRADA
Anyone knows for the boots??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:08 AM) :

i'd like to know the brend of that bag. love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 AM) :

boots, bag = burberry

Blogger Laura. said ... (8:41 AM) :

boots <3

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 AM) :

I lover her look, but specially her boots...where can I get themmm??????

Blogger Scott W said ... (9:39 AM) :

Three bags in one setting!

Anonymous claudia said ... (11:00 AM) :

This is the perfect NYC outfit. She looks cold because it's cold in NYC! But sometimes you have to deal with it and just look amazing... The Cape, bag and shoes are pure, simple perfection... I love it!!!

Blogger Stephanie said ... (11:25 AM) :

Wow, she's great!

Anonymous jem said ... (11:29 AM) :

gahhh.... this is so good, i love the whole outfit. i thought this was one of editors at marie claire... glad to see i was right! such a good look and photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:08 PM) :

I love LOVE women in leggings.

Anonymous Cutdrop said ... (12:20 PM) :

She looks hot, so there's not much bad one can say about the outfit.

Blogger Carlos said ... (1:55 PM) :

Hey its that one editor from Marie Claire shes on that new show running in heels on style network alot :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:36 PM) :

Great outfit! I love this blog!
Does anyone know who makes these boots?

Blogger Eddie in the corner said ... (3:47 PM) :

Think she looks good - agree that the buttons are a beautiful detail. And Black.. what better way to emphasize silhouette?
But mostly in this case i want to relish the photo: the depth, three dimensionality created by the three bags; the three light squares ( one on the wall, one in sticking out of her bag, and the sidewalk) Great composition, both hers and Scott's.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 PM) :

This woman and "Slashed" down below both look like they forgot their pants. And they both look freezing cold. It's winter, people! I know you want to look cool, but didn't your mother tell you to wear a hat and a scarf when you go outside? See Rei above.

Blogger Caroline said ... (4:06 PM) :

Love the cape! The buttons are divine... She does look cold, though.

Anonymous princess glee said ... (5:46 PM) :

I love capes. Is this a cape she's wearing? Anyway, why is there so much black everywhere? Black, black, black...blah, blah, blah.

Blogger Yamila said ... (11:06 PM) :

Cool!!! your coat! and your bag! cool!!

Blogger Maximilian Laufer said ... (4:06 AM) :

Is there such a thing as "NY Legs" - because if there is, I am quite confident that this is what see right here. Amazing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:05 AM) :

I am getting so tired of these massive handbags everybody is carrying around.
Small purse, please come back !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:55 AM) :

I agree that many people really can't coordinate colors or don't understand them. Wearing all black takes that issue off the table, but it's giving up which is kind of sad. Also, if everything you own is black I guess you have unlimited combinations...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:22 PM) :

Blogger Cathy Phillips said ... (10:05 PM) :

I DIE for that cape! And a couple of people asked, the bag is Burberry from a couple of seasons ago, Fall '08 I think.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 PM) :

One other practical idea about all black in winter in NYC: The city can get unbelievably gross this time of year.

There's often unpredictable slush/sleet/snow/rain and all sorts of nastiness on every street corner. Let's not even talk about the subway (although I doubt this woman ever rides the subway.) Certain colors are less practical. I always laugh when I see people in white parkas in New York and think, good luck...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 AM) :

black offers a constant chic for people who work a lot and don't have to spend too much time on what they're wearing. its effortless, flattering, and yes, it can look expensive whether or not it is.

she looks fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 PM) :

So all black, all the time, is a cop-out? Not that she looks bad!

Blogger Bellarmine said ... (4:52 AM) :

She looks damn good!

Blogger Theresa Skyler said ... (11:51 AM) :

Blogger d. said ... (12:34 PM) :

i love the whole look. from her hair to her jacket to her bag her leggings to her boots and of course how she carries it all. awesome photo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:18 PM) :

Beautiful hair matches perfectly with a totally black style. Great coat, great gloves, imagine if she knew brazilian handbags... Hers is good, but brazilian ones are amazing...Lilly Bastos

Blogger la diabla ecologica said ... (9:07 PM) :

muy lindos modelos muy inspiradores.

Anonymous Girlosophy said ... (11:01 PM) :

Black IS the new black! And that goes whether you're in Washington or NYC. She totally rocks this look. The main thing about the ensemble is the proportions. She has it exactly right. The tights look like Wolford (to Anonymous, above)to me. For the record, I live in Sydney and I wear black. But I manage to stay cool all year round.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 AM) :

I Love that Tod's Bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:47 PM) :

She looks fashionable but she's obviously freezing. Save the cape for when it's warmer and wear something a little more weather appropriate.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 PM) :

the bag is burberry and it's still in stores. the boots are also from burberry - fall from last year. no longer in stores.

Blogger Beautybooty said ... (1:49 PM) :

Is this Naomi Watts?
