On the Street......In the Mix, NYC

I love this look.
Tweedy herringbone, navy dots, leather, a touch of fur and a shock of color.
I love that she uses so many elements of design: color, pattern, texture, proportion.
I also love that a man can be just as inspired by this as a woman.

No jeans or sloppy t-shirts!

Its good to see you back in NYC. I love the hint of color and the way she mixes multiple colors very well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 AM) :

I am so happy you are back in NYC. I love the photos from Milano and Roma and Sweden, but there is something about that City vibe. Glad to have you back.

Blogger James Jean said ... (9:52 AM) :

Blogger hc said ... (10:22 AM) :

too cerebral. i want to see the idea, not the thought process.

each piece on it's own is brilliant, save the hat. once assembled though, it gets too busy. the red splash is haute, but it's placement looks entirely contrived.

Blogger Carlene said ... (10:24 AM) :

Miss Frugally, this photo was taken in NYC!

Beautiful shot! love the lighting...and she looks fantastic! I love all the layers, but it is not bulky...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:40 AM) :

The hat! Is there another that would pull this outfit off with such a funny twist, and still keep it together?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:40 AM) :

is this a fedora or trilby hat? she looks fantastic!

Definitely a special look love the hat really cool!

Blogger LC said ... (11:20 AM) :

Blogger beths said ... (11:32 AM) :

I love the colors, patterns, and proportions, but the fur is raggedy, and skirt and blouse both could use an iron.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:42 AM) :

I used to dress like this in college in London in the 90s so this photo makes me smile. Her hat is great and i love the splash of red - that and her happy face make the whole outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 AM) :

You have such an eye for details - the second shot is art!

Blogger Karen said ... (11:58 AM) :

I like it too.

Blogger diane said ... (12:01 PM) :

Something about this look is a little too "swiss alps nanny", maybe it's the hat. Love the shoes. Wish I could see the guy behind her better.

Love it! Great to see people having fun with fashion, creating a character to be for the day – and what is wrong with "swiss alps nanny"? Agree with (almost) everyone: it's all about the hat.

And this woman looks wonderful as well. Where in NYC is this taken?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 PM) :

For me, it's the skirt not the hat. But really it's the whole thing not one piece. She has a smile like the Cheshire Cat - she KNOWS whatever she knows....I am inspired.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (6:24 PM) :

Her style is a perfect mix of masculine and feminine. A bit quirky. Comfortable without being too casual. And not a bit concerned with what's "in fashion", I especially love that.

And she's so pretty!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:28 PM) :

She's fab. Not many people can pull this look off. She does.

Blogger Shani said ... (6:48 PM) :

I love the way that the red just peeks out enough to give the outfit a pop.

Blogger Rafe Totengco said ... (6:55 PM) :

I love the mix of patterns and texture! That hint of red is a nice shot of color. It's all very nonchalant and has that thrown together at the last minute kind of attitude.

Blogger sarahbereza said ... (7:29 PM) :

beautiful! I usually like most of what I see on this site, but this is a step above...I not sure what it is about it though....

Blogger Alexandra said ... (7:54 PM) :

great shot...the layers make the outfit amazing...she looks inspiring indeed...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:28 PM) :

If I dressed like this I would look sad and silly--it's not for everyone-- but on her this look is terrific. Color and texture is excellent--and I love the peek of red sweater. Beautiful tights and wonderful boots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:59 PM) :

She's has taken the world's most beautiful colors - and combined them all in a stunning way.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:12 AM) :

I love that you said a man could be inspired by this look. It made me feel better about having felt inspired by this look.

The skirt is really, really great. I love her shoes too. I love masculine inspired looks on very feminine forms.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:13 AM) :

I am just crazy for this outfit. I keep coming back to it!!

Blogger Kits said ... (12:33 PM) :

I am coming back to your blog after ages. Great shot and she looks stunning with the right mix of course

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:55 PM) :

She takes a good picture, sweet, demure pose. Love the close up where you can see all the textures, prints and details. To elimate some of the bulk in the waist area it would've been better if she were wearing pants with a wider waistband. Also this could be improved if the bag were more structured and the fur was less unkempt. Btw old lady shoes just aren't attractive.

Blogger cosmic visions said ... (2:30 PM) :

I love this, its so pretty. Easy to pull off and low-key and adorable!

Blogger phoenix a. stepinac said ... (3:51 PM) :

This is the kind of girl I could get wasted on Boone's Farm with...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:20 PM) :

This girl is a cutey to boot! I like your perspective and use of the available lighting--it does not overpower, the light is an accessory that accentuates her look. She seems dark, smoky and sexy (sly smile!)while the shock of red sweater adds a jolt. Bomb genius, Sart!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:01 PM) :

did she make that hat?

Blogger Joy Mars said ... (10:35 PM) :

My thought: Who needs a relationship when your clothes are so satisfying?

Blogger hippie_cyndi said ... (10:43 PM) :

beautiful, I love it when a keen sense of personal style overcomes the usual fashionista looks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:11 PM) :

if only thrift shops carried chloe shoes and bags by jane mayle!

Blogger Michelle said ... (12:04 AM) :

I can't get over this outfit.
I have purposely gone to look at it every day since it has been posted - it has reminded me to add just a little pop of color to seemingly drab outfits, and inspired me to play with textures and patterns
Thanks for the inspiration!

Blogger MANICPROJECT said ... (4:42 PM) :

I actually love the lighting of this photo

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 PM) :
