Comments on "On the Street....Via Tortona, Milano"
I am loving all of these subtle and sophisticated color combinations. So much more refreshing than black and/or white. Just lovely.
That jacket is breathtaking... it's seamless and beautiful... Love how she's put together this outfit, stylishly eclectic. Great find!
I love love love the colors and the layers!!!
Excellent! Now I know what to do with my sporran!
I am positively agog! I have fallen in love at first site with this look. Everything about it is pure whimsy! And The pieces alone (sans the tights) are rather traditional...all together...WOW!
She's a woman who has no fear -- those stockings are awesome.
i love everything about this. the tights, the shoes. the coat! i want a closer look at this coat!
I love the little bag/pocket on the waistcoat, adds a real antique feel. The socks, whilst adding a modern touch, aren't needed in my opinion. Perhaps some off white/cream tights would help create a lengthening column of neutrals instead?
The colours of the gloves, coat and bag work perfectly xxx
thats what i like in a woman !
fantasy and style togheter..
good job sart!
Max
Those stockings are awesome! And I like how she is wearing a little pocket book around her torso. The jacket is a great length. I love it all!
I love the color palette, but I'm not crazy about the tights. They're a little juvenile for the sophisticated outfit.
This photo, this lady, is utterly exquisite. Her whole outfit is delicate, detailed and intriguing. Even the background is fabulous. Thanks for making my Monday morning, Sart!
totally original, fantastic!!
On a less confident person this look would not be as appealing. Confidence should be the first thing you put on in the AM. Love the pouch -- like a pocket watch on a waist coat. Divine.
Okay so I know most commentors comment on the fashion but I just wanted to leave you a comment to say that The Sartorialist is my all time favourite blog. Thank you.
What a charming ensemble. I was initially taken with the coat, but then I scrolled down and was taken by the striped tights. Wonderful!
Beauutiful color and texture in her outfit.
But I would love to lend her my eyebrow pencil and then she would be perfect.
Wow an outfit I like almost completely like it is, especially the coat! :D Except those stocking/socks whatever.
The nhow hotel in the background echoes her colors.
wow! i would have to say that this is one of the best outfits i've ever seen on fashion blogs! funky, chic, modern, and classy all in one!
Amazing. Maybe the socks are a bit too much... she should choose between socks, gloves or red bag. That said, the yellow coat is among the best I have ever seen, the layers perfectly fit her body shape and the small purse is the perfect detail.
She's a work of art. Her outfit is complicated yet simple. Truly pleasing to the eye!
ahhhh! Pure perfection!!! The socks, the mustard coat and those ivy colored fingerless gloves!!!!
J'adore!!!!
Colours lovely and harmonious with the quirkinessof the chocolate and toffee legs. This escapes being boring with the mix of the ochre coat, celadon green mittens and cherry bag. Very successful altogether, although the grey/stone woman of last week is still my favourite.......
It takes extreme elegance to make striped tights so chic. This is a "perfect" outfit in my books. She keeps the look streamlined but also exciting.
Greate layers!
The coat seems so softly soft. And the colours dreamily creamy.
This is perfection.
Quirky and idiosyncratic but carefully thought out according to her own style and it works. She looks like a fun person. Beautiful coat and the sweater or vest is a nice touch, too. Not sure about the style of the gloves, but the colors they and the bag provide are good.
god she's put together well. everything fits perfectly. at first thought no on the tights, but it works. the green gloves, too. she's genius. love brown and cream together by the way. just love it.
Wow wow wow! Love her style...
how a professor at hogwarts would dress in muggle clothes
The subject obviously knows her trends--looks like she ticked them off: fingerless gloves, bracelet length sleeves, patterned tights, peep-toe shoes over the patterned tights, blahblahblah--but don't all those "hot" items overwhelm her personal style? She's made a great choice in colors, and I admire her use of angles and asymettry, but I'd like to see her subtract at least one trend and add something that truly speaks to who she is. Perhaps that's what she's doing with the sweet cross-body bag?
The background colors in this photo are beautiful and appropriate.
I love this outfit, it's funny.
Kisses
Vivi
i'm just cazy about the whole look, it is very wimsical but put together. though i must admit i am not crazy in love with the tights. but other then the tights i love the rest of the look.
OMG gorgeous!
Love it!!
The gloves are my favorite part! And the pouch, also.
She's lovely. I don't think the ensemble could work as well without the hosiery. This may seem counter-intuitive, but they unify the look somehow. This shot made me wish I could enlarge more of the details--maybe in your next technological improvement, Sart? Thanks for this beautiful shot.
there are many things i like about this outfit. she looks great!
is there an element about this outfit that I don't like?
No, I don't think so!
love the tights so younf and cute, they change the outfit completely :>
Everything she is wearing, I like.
Those fingerless gloves look like my Dries Van Noten's
wow. simply exquisit
*baci*
It is so near-impossible to wear striped tights without looking retro punk or childlike, but this woman does it with 100% success! Great outfit with beautiful color combining!
Fabulous. I love the bag.
WOW, she is Uberta Camerana, she is a consultant for Etro and other fashion designers. She also wrote a book about how to be chic.
I love her and her dress!!
i like the coat and stripe socks.
how nice!!
wudv been better if they were solid coloured stockings :P but nice coat haha
This just shouldn't work: Red and green together, hooped stockings, mini-sporran!
But it does. Fab!
Beautiful coat! And the cacophony of colored accessories that would be costume-y on a lesser woman is very elegantly pulled off. As another poster pointed out, confidence is everything in such an outfit. Also, does the small pouch at her waist remind anyone else of a sporran (kilt pouch)?
at last!!
i was waiting for those milanese fashiongoers))
they are incredible :)
her coat, colors...
lovely
I'm not loving the striped hosiery but the rest is amazing. The jacket is flawless and its color combined with the color of the gloves is gorgeous. Perfect layers too.
cathyphillipsfashion.blogspot.com
what a great shot
killer coat, great blending of patterns and colors
That coat is to die for. I love the little pouch under the coat. The layering is impeccable. I love the stockings. She has a lot of style.
Complete! the woman, the outfit!
this is so gorgeous...it truly is a lesson for me: i sometimes feel as if color and pattern can't be done in a sophisticated manner. but she looks classy and age appropriate; a tricky feat when wearing striped tights!
I would wear this in a second - except the shoes. Decent flat boots or shoes would ground this ensemble and keep it from looking too costumey.
The colours are so perfect together but the rest is so clashing, but so well done! The stripy socks with such classical tailoring... she makes it look great. I love her cross the body bag as well.
I love everything she is wearing, but not worn all together.
Wow, what a mad mix! Love the coat, shoes and bag, just not sure that this look would work for anyone of us mere mortals!
This is one of my favorites, and the stockings are perfection.
Makes me want to do a happy dance.
Absolutely love all the different colors. They all go so well. And the shoes and the stockings are amazing!
love it.
i think this is probably the coolest outfit I have EVER seen. The coat is beyond fabulous. This is incredibly quirky but looks completely appropriate for a woman who is some way from her teenage years....
she looks sooo cute and comfy... love those tights.
great minimalistic coat!
What a playful, clever delight! To accessorize this brown/ochre palette with red and green makes the entire look totally fresh. The collarless coat is magnificent and I for one adore the striped stockings.
Autumn queen.
ya know how there's the scruffy homeless punks? and in new orleans, those punks have a scruffy circus twist on that style?
this reminds me of the new orleans circus kids gone classy.
(there's probably a more concise way to express my POV. i'm just not good at that...)
I LOVE THIS!
I absolutely adore this!
Her clothes fit her beautifully! She makes me a tad jealous!
I'm not sure what to comment on first. I just can't stop looking - I love everything about it...
Radiant portrait: Your eye for color is fantastic Sir. Your subject is beautiful with exquisite style that's playful and slick (with a fleeting resemblance in her face to Tori Amos) , but what is I love most about this portrait is the surreal background, in grey/blue--almost like it's underwater, serving as the perfect backdrop for this radiant, golden woman to shine.
PLO
This really is delicious. And love it with the loose toffee-colored hair au naturel. It's true that the shoes are a tiny bit jarring (strap AND stripes), but who cares? The point is that this woman is having fun, loves her things, and feels wonderful! Come on people--let's get out there and STRUT OUR STUFF.
never seen striped tights done so well
The mustard coloured coat looks amazing. Gives a classy yet stylish feel.
Witchy. I like it.
I'll get you yet, Dorothy! And yur little dog, ToTo, too!
She looks so lovely! The coat is simplicity at its best...its timeless and it happens to be one of my favorite colors. Also, kudos on the stockings....Great Great Great outfit!
She had me right up to the stockings. They are too Wicked Witch, and detract from the sophisitcation of the the outfit. Perhaps a different pattern. . .
I'm going out to find a pair of striped tights right now. Checking at Target and Express first. If not there then Harmonie, Vanity Room or Blonde in Venice, CA and Santa Monica, CA.
Love that while stylish she is not afraid to have a little fun. We would all do well to bring such a fresh, irreverent perspective into our daily lives.
I love your blog man, its awsome. Im from Brazil and not too many people know you here, but since the Veja magazine publish a story about you, more and more brazilians are loving this blog.
Keep up the amazing work.
I have a fashion blog too, but it is in the beggining, check it out if you can.
fashionkangaroo.blogspot.com
Thanks, Daniel.
LOOOOOVE IT! Doesn't this kind of remind you of harry potter? The costumes in the film and such. Maybe vaguely.
the jacket is beautiful :)
I almost never comment, but this is just magnificent. Amazing.
This Is Amazing!!! I have never seen such a crowded ensemble look so good. My only complaint is the shoes and the bag together. I would probably choose a more neutral shoe.
She looks like stylist Melanie Ward. She looks like she just stepped off the pages of an editorial spread. Wonderful!
I am just loving this, especially the sculptural coat and the sporran. Isn't winter just great sometimes?
amazing colors.
she looks like a fashionable dressed character from a child's story book.
I love this little pouch. Looks like my fanny pack (bumbag)
Wow so many places to look, so many fine details - how put together is she? She is fabulous!
I so love that coat. The construction and color are amazing. It just looks really soft, but not fuzzy. But those tights aren't really doing anything to the whole look.
She has a lot going on already with the different shades of cream/brown, the green fingerless gloves, and the red bag. And there are all the different textures. I think solid color tights would have best.
It was the gloves and sleeve length that first got me!
this coat is so fine....
this is a gorgeous get-up! looks fantastic on her!
A sporran? I can only hope that one day she wears that waistcoat in Glasgow.
I have been reading this blog for a couple of years now, and I have to say - THIS is THE BEST OUTFIT I have ever seen photographed here. Truly stunning. She looks incredible. More of this. Well done.
woohoo, what a fabulous, fresh looking coat!
Gosh, I'm in love! this brightened my day..another mighty fine pic sart! So nicely done
I just love the entire colour combo and those stripe tights! I must find a pair for winter!
Fierce.
Just perfect.
Breathtakingly beautiful - an Italia sunset.
I love the jacket and the mixture of the mustard with the ketchup. Plus the shirt and skirt look so beautiful on her. However, the fingerless gloves remind me of smokers, which is never pleasant, and the stockings make her look way too much like a witch. Nude colored hos would have been perfect.
Love the combo of earth tones. The coat is perfectly simple so it's not over the top with the Raggedy Ann tights. The green of the gloves are stunning. She is a very soft spoken bomb shell.
the only time i've seen horizontally striped tights lookin good...
amazing coat!
BLOGTASTIC !
The layers and detail in this outfit are incredible! I wonder how much work she put into dressing that morning...
those tights take her outfit to the next level!
beautiful, I love the little brown bag she has around her waist
I love how the green pops out from the yellow tones.
I so enjoy personal style such as this.
I am absolutely in love with this outfit. Winter dressing is the best.
So pleasent in the eyes with a hint of red.
calm cool collected.
Incognito.
I normally love simple outfits, but the mix here really works. She looks amazing!
like a painting... lovely.
series of achromatic colors inside with three touches of real colors on the outside. very clever, very cheerful, this look is adorable!
there's something very "tori amos" about this ensemble.
and it's very smart but doesn't take itself too seriously.
I saw a chic woman in Carcassonne this weekend who caught my eye for her wild blonde hair and very cool black coat with a high collar. Then I noticed she was wearing black and grey striped tights. It worked.
i think this is the best Sart I've seen in about 2 months.
I LOVE THIS...especially the socks
Yellow jacket, green gloves and red bag. And those stockings with those shoes. She makes me very happy :)
White Wall High Heel
marni? wonderful style!! she 's the mediterranean Cate Blanchette.
What an amazing amazing outfit! I love every single element, and the result as a whole...just incredible! She looks absolutely gorgeous!
the gloves are a great finishing touch to this outfit.
love this look layers and colours but somehow managing to look carefree, helps that she is slim and beautiful. this is a good example of true style it is unique, ie not pulled from a catwalk or editorial, quirky but overwhelmingly chic and elegant.
i want to meet this woman. Think she might ever visit Lancaster, Pa USA? Or would I have to venture to Milan?
She looks amazing... Coat and the shoes are so beautiful and I love the brown beige combination in the whole outfit very balanced. The red bag with the green gloves makes this look playful
love this look, the stocking are (different)
Perhaps I could pull off stripey tights? She's lovely.
this woman has a gift.
either her and the style are GORGEOUS, she glows!
Just lovely. The colours and fabric are wonderful.
Fearless...youthful...I love this. And oh those tights! I want!
Elegant lady who does not take herself too seriously. Love it.
A prelude to Michelle Obama's Inaugural outfit with the yellow coat and green gloves! Maybe she follows the blog!
She's enjoying herself. We're enjoying her. This is how it should be!
This entire ensemble is beautiful. I love the way she incorporated something whimsical into such a sophisticated look.
I love the Sporron
Wow. She is in a league all her own. Amazing.
It's so funny, I bought a pair of striped knee-highs that look just like hers! I thought they were so adorable. I got them home and THEN wondered how I would wear them, and if I was too old (31) to. She seems to be around my age, and now I know I can wear them and look great like she does!
Everything about her is FANTASTIC: the way her face and her hair go with her style, very naturally, then the colors, the shapes, the proportions, the great fun and personal fearless way of creating her own image... This is one of my Sartorialist's favourite in months!
WOW! SO SO SO COOL.
Beautiful contrast between her and the background, like subtle differences but it seems like the colors are from the same color scheme.
ahhh. I want her entire outfit. Really great shot Sart!
marni me!!!
The stockings set this entire outfit off, definitely a beautiful older lady !
El toque de color de los guantes y el bolso son simplemente fantásticos en un look ya de por sí magistralmente conseguido.
Estupendo!
The gloves, the jacket and the tights look great together. It is amazing how accessories can add to an outfit.
fantastic use of colors. they are muted enough to not seem over the top. she has the confidence needed to pull this off. fantastic
Your photographs are amazing. We have fallen head over heels for your blog!
She looks magnificent. Genius Chic.
Love the stripe hose, and she dares to make cool color combinations!
Runway to Realway!!! Love it.
Giallo zucca and the stripes...light was perfect that day, the far background...we focus on the details, she's like an UFO on the street
I know other commenters have questioned her choice of stockings, but I love it! The entire look is colorful and fun without a garish clowny costume look. This is the way to wear striped stockings!
This is so daring! Except, if I had to change one thing it'd be those tights! But asides from that, I love the mustard coat and the green gloves along with the red bag.
stop it. you are making me miss milano (especially with a picture from my old neighborhood)
and by stop it, i mean keep them coming.
The construction of the garments are superb!
Isn't it Melanie Ward, as cleverly spotted by DalatDesigns? Whoever she is, she looks fantastic, striped tights and all!
Gorgeous coat. Great oat colour. She is just visual perfection.
I think its weird for everyday clothing and i think it looks like a Halloween costume
A modern, European Carrie Bradshaw..
"Sex and the City". Love it.
I usually hate mustard color.... im so jealous.... she is a BOMB ...wearing mustard....and every single thing about this look is great...the award of layering goes to you lady.....
Perfection by any other name . . .
OMG! she is just ethereal....great combination of styles, from hipster to high class !
u r blog Is very nice
But these socks with the brown jacket and the shades of clothing and accessories, resulting in something Steampunk and folk. Very magic *-*
I absolutely adore this coat. I wouldn't necessarily style myself like this, but the coat itself is such an inspiration and springs visions in my mind.
A delightful combo of hues and patterns, inspiring!
