the bag is really nice..but i think it´s too big for him..!!

Blogger TMFA said ... (8:42 AM) :

very stylish guy!
and love the composition

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:43 AM) :

Just a little too skinny for the jeans in my opnion : give a non harmonious line with the boots.
But apart from that, nice combo, great bag !!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 AM) :

I would love to own that bag! Mathes well with the shoes.. great outfit!

Blogger and the winner is said ... (8:57 AM) :

Put together very well.

Side note:
Is there any way that you could make these pictures bigger? I would like to see the small details in the pocket square, tie, jacket, shirt, or whatever it might be.
Just wanted to throw that out there.
Big fan of your work though. I check it daily and it inspires what I wear.
Thanks for all the great work.

Blogger Karmander said ... (8:59 AM) :

Superb. Striking, how he emphasizes his small stature rather than using tricks to appear larger. It showcases a great deal of pride in oneself to love what you are and celebrate it. And obviously, I LOVE THAT BAG.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 AM) :

This man is polished from head to toe. This is stereotypical Italians being very detailed and for good reason too. Once again, I'm inspired!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:02 AM) :

I might die for a bag like that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

i'm sure i won't be the only one to say this, but...
his look is perfection, except for the fact that the bag completely overwhelms him!

Blogger Jussi Tarvainen said ... (9:08 AM) :

Where would you buy sportcoats and blazers like this online? What fabric is this by the way?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:08 AM) :

absolutely trandy chic... more ancient time....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:10 AM) :

You could fold him up into his bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:13 AM) :

PERFECT !!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:14 AM) :

I like the boots and the jacket too.
Not convinced by the bag.

Max

Blogger The Concrete Commentator said ... (9:15 AM) :

Yes. I like this. The that jacket with that shirt he's wearing. The large leather vintage bag is perfect with the ensemble. You got to love the pocket square also.

Blogger Sarah S. said ... (9:16 AM) :

i love this. and that man is very good looking. i love all the slim fitting clothes with the large (gorgeous) bag. but i almost think that it is a shade too big. it makes him look like an elf. especially with the huge door behind him!!

Blogger wendy said ... (9:22 AM) :

The fitting creates a great silhouette. The bag makes him appear very petite, but it works.

Blogger Sharon said ... (9:28 AM) :

oh wow, I think I just found The Man outfit I would totally replicate, even down to the shoes!
Thank you The Sartorialist for all the inspiration you bring into our lives

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:29 AM) :

Not usually a fan of the big bag but this is great! His pose is perfect too - of course - he is Italian. Leaving aside practical trifles such as how he even manages to walk in those jeans let alone get them on, sit down etc, i think this is cool image.

Blogger iffi said ... (9:29 AM) :

Too girly look for me....if u don`t look at the face then hard to tell whether a man or a women..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:30 AM) :

sleeping bag?

Blogger Lucy said ... (9:49 AM) :

Love the velvet scarf paired with the shirt... maybe ha could carry the bag in different way, but still I like him so much

Blogger hannah said ... (9:49 AM) :

That is the most stunningly beautiful bag I've ever seen. It looks like it has history, and has benefitted from it.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (9:51 AM) :

Fashion with a touch of the Medieval! Well, the background contributes but so does the bag and the hair. Maybe '60's meets Medieval. Another great pairing of subject and background. I like the jacket and scarf and the plaid shirt, even how much cuff is showing because that bit of pattern is key to the outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 AM) :

Just absolutely love it! The tight jeans, the big bag, the jacket and the hair! All so good together. The bag makes it!

Blogger Barbara said ... (9:58 AM) :

Sublime androgyny. A little precious, though - I think it's the bent arm with the gladstone. I do like the mix of the clothes, which are quite ordinary on their own, but work well together. The bag belongs in a pantomime (he's got his wicked stepmother in there)- it dwarfs him and completely and just looks silly.....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:01 AM) :

I adore the bag! I have a bag which looks very similar to this one, but is unfortunately not this beautiful.

I also like his velvet scarf (especially the colour), the jacket and de rest of the details (the bracelet for example...).

I have to admit that I am not charmed by his jeans. It just does not work for me...his legs look too feminine.

Keep up the good work Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

He can crawl into that bag, for sure.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:04 AM) :

everything is GREAT but the bag. it's too big for him. too big. love his shoes and texture of his scarf and the shirt sleeve out. beautiful man.

Blogger Mihal said ... (10:15 AM) :

uuugh, everything about this is perfect - scarf, blazer, skinny jeans, bag, boots...haircut!! love it love it.

Blogger joe t said ... (10:30 AM) :

what a great pic!!!!! dont know what i would rather have the doors or the bag!!! i agree the bag overwhelms him but would you have to any other way! i would like to know what's in it???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 AM) :

The bag ruins the whole balance of the picture. I agree that it is a very nice bag but it is indeed too big for him. But he clearly has great style, i love his scarf

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:43 AM) :

Thank God, something that isn't an overcoat!

Blogger secondvurss said ... (10:46 AM) :

like the shoes and bag, the jeans are too tight for my liking.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:53 AM) :

Gorgeous overall! I love his look, and I love the bag, but I do think that a slightly scaled-down version of the bag would suit him better. He looks like he could pull a Mary Poppins and start dragging giant clocks and desks out of the bag, or maybe like he beds down in it at night.

Still, what a look. WHAT A BAG.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:57 AM) :

He's so very Bob Dylan....and I love him for it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 AM) :

i love how simple his blazer jacket is, and how he dresses it up with the shirt and the bigg bagg... absolutely lovely

Blogger Værelset said ... (10:59 AM) :

Loves the way in which he reminds me of Paddington the bear and a swedish superstar at the same time.

Blogger stacy said ... (10:59 AM) :

well the proportions sure do make it interesting.

love it all - just trying to wrap my head around the scale of the bag to the jeans.

makes a statement without a doubt.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:10 AM) :

Jeans too skinny,
bag way too big
a smile would have helped.

Blogger Isao said ... (11:21 AM) :

It must be hard to carry a bag that size all day, specially when its owner almost fits inside it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 AM) :

reminds me of Gene Wilder in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" something crazy could pop out of (or into) that bag!

Blogger Ron said ... (11:27 AM) :

Wonderful photograph. The background is probably the most interesting part. Lose the bag.

Blogger Evelyn said ... (11:37 AM) :

I love the mix and match- sportcoat+ tight jeans+ check sportshirt- the outfit is outstanding!!!!!!
The big bag is an additional credit!

Blogger Tessa said ... (11:46 AM) :

What an amazing door! So perfect to put him there with all those lovely browns.

I have seen that bag (or similar) at No. 6 Store in NYC. They are like my dream come true of bags as I am always walking around with half my home with me...Happy Monday!

Blogger sophia said ... (11:55 AM) :

I want the bag. I like the combo of the textures how the Velvet, Tweed, Leather, Denim are all in one outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:57 AM) :

I love the silhouette this guy has managed create - quite apart from the way he has managed to mix grey, black, navy and brown into one co-ordinating outfit. It really helps the outfit become more than a sum of its parts.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:00 PM) :

This guy looks incredible! His bag is magnificent, his boots (or shoes - I can't tell, so I'm assuming boots) are perfect, and the background with. The giant door makes this a portrait more than just a documentation of what he is wearing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:04 PM) :

The proportions are entirely whimsical (slender frame in comparison to boots and fab bag) and the intended effect is delightful, as one can only imagine what he is carrying inside that luxurious leather! Also, the diversity of texture is positively divine.

Blogger Olviya said ... (12:04 PM) :

interesting, but i think the jeans are tooooo skiny)))

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:07 PM) :

His shirt sleeves are way too long.

Blogger Arielle said ... (12:07 PM) :

Loving the pants with the jacket; it adds a bit of sass to the class.
Not sure how I feel about the bag, but it matches perfectly with the doors in the background.
I agree that he reminds me of Dylan a bit - I think it's the hair.

Blogger Johanne said ... (12:17 PM) :

Purrrrfect bag! Nice outfit as well, but the bag is perfection...

Blogger ROULA said ... (12:23 PM) :

Male... Mary Poppins...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 PM) :

Stylish could be his nickname!

Nice bag,
nice socks,
nice shirt,
nice hair and
nice door behind him!

Fran Rosa

Blogger Tiger Fodder said ... (12:40 PM) :

Take the bag away and he has an amazing outfit. I disagree that his pants are too skinny. The man is skinny, let him show it. I love the scarf, the blazer and the shirt. The bag is amazing but it looks like it is carrying him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:45 PM) :

love all the pieces on their own, but here...the laying on top skews the proportions and makes his legs look too skinny. And I agree, the bag is too large and overwhelms him. Perhaps if it were smaller by 25%?

Blogger Honeygo Beasley said ... (12:51 PM) :

Very Bob Dylan-ish !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 PM) :

Is the bag the accessory to the man or is the man accesory to the bag? Bag is miles too big.

Blogger Sarah Raphaela said ... (12:58 PM) :

cute guy, i like men wearing bags :)

Blogger Tereza Š. said ... (1:25 PM) :

love this bag

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 PM) :

Haha! Brilliant.

Blogger Dr. Debonaire said ... (2:09 PM) :

he looks amazing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:10 PM) :

As a very thin man myself, I'd like to interject. Some of us LIKE being thin and LIKE wearing slim-fitting clothes (especially jeans and pants) to show that off! I hate seeing a slim guy running around wearing clothes that are two sizes too big - it makes him look like a four-year-old who got into his dad's closet.

I think the outfit is perfection. Although I would scale down the bag if I were him, kudos to him for trying. Love the scarves and the boots.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:19 PM) :

I like it, but the jeans are way to tight to even bare to look at!
Very feminine, no thanks.

Blogger J. Vander Meer said ... (2:33 PM) :

All this talk about the bag being too big is silliness. The whole outfit, would seem silly without the bag in my opinion. It's the contrasts that make this picture and the the size of the man to the size of this bag is all part of the charm. He has managed illustrative proportions while managing to still seem real(but in a very wavering sense, like at any moment those doors might open up to a different world....or not and either way I'm still intrigued).

Awesome photo.
Insanely good ensemble.

Blogger vint junky said ... (2:40 PM) :

love!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:41 PM) :

Can He walk? or sit down?

Blogger Jen said ... (2:48 PM) :

The jeans just seem too skinny for me. Seeing the definition of his calves make them look like leggings, which to me seem strange on a man.

Everything else is absolutely divine, love the scarf/jacket/waistcoat (?) combination.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:08 PM) :

Mmmmmmm. mmm.

Sexy stable boy.

Blogger Lucile Meyer said ... (3:27 PM) :

Straight off from a Dolce&Gabanna catwalk ! Very nice, especially the oversized bag ! x

Blogger Kristina said ... (3:57 PM) :

This is absurd and wonderful at the same time. The splayed toes and the mournful look... The background especially makes it seem as if he was transported from a neo-Victorian era!

Blogger Berkley Magazine said ... (4:03 PM) :

Splendid outfit though I'm incapable of wearing such skinny trousers. Very indie-meets-dandy. Hope I'll see similar style when I visit NYC for the first time at the end of this month.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:09 PM) :

Wonderful !

Blogger Hemaly said ... (4:14 PM) :

I love the bag so much.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:23 PM) :

i love the regular expectation in your comments section that every man, woman, child and dog needs to be styled by the book within an inch of their lives, and totally fashion forward and on trend.

Perhaps the bag is him poking fun at his own stature? does it really matter anyway?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:24 PM) :

the ideal look

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 PM) :

This gentleman, with his big bag, velvet scarf, tweed jacket, standing in front of a grand and beautifully aged door, looks like a modern-day Frodo Baggins stepping out of his home at the Shire...

PLO

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

outfit - fantastic.

but what is really catching my eye is that amazing background - could you tell me where in florence you took the picture?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:04 PM) :

dont like the lower part at all..dunno.
jeans are too tight, the bag is way too big (it screams "hey this guy is a stylish person") and the boots are too common.
whereas the upper part is very nicely put together.
i like the pocketsquare a lot in that sportsjacket.
and the bracelets are kinda nice.

greets
eric

Blogger Thomas said ... (5:25 PM) :

he is def owning this look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:27 PM) :

mm.. i like the look, but i think the jeans are toooooo tight. it adds a sense of disproportion. and i love tight jeans on men, but i think this may be pushing it.

PLUS, while the bag is beautiful, it is way too big to be carried as a handbag. it overwhelms him.

...i do like the aubergine velvet scarf! and the bits of plaid poking through beneath his blazer.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 PM) :

ok his outfit looks great, everything, his scarf specially, the trousers, the length and the shoes. BUT, in my opinion the huge bag makes it all far too obvious, a bit attention seeking. the bag is great but i dont know if u get my point... a bit too much?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:31 PM) :

I´ve got no problem with the bag, But the superslim jeans is not fun anymore. It´s been 5 years of constant wearing of jeans as an extra skin here in sweden and even though I´m not a fan of the Baggy pants, this picture would be almost perfect wíth a bit slim, perhaps glenchecked pair of trousers.

//Andreas

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:45 PM) :

The jacket's lovely. But those jeans are a no-no. He looks like a wading bird going shopping with his mummy's bag. The bag is just plain stupid. I'm all for making a statement, but the statement this bag makes is not one I'd want to be seen making.

Blogger Julia mode said ... (5:48 PM) :

"Trés jolie photo"
and i love this Bag !! xx

Blogger kimmy said ... (6:40 PM) :

What an amazing bag! I love that it is OTT!

I think he looks amazing!

Blogger lenmeister said ... (6:41 PM) :

Wow! thats like ultra skinny!..I hope for his sake his jeans are made out of a softer denim lol.
But all jokes aside, the gentleman here pulled this off very well, "chique" indeed. He owns this look its his, very well done!! If I had his physic (aside from the skintight jeans..maybe a lil less skinny), I'd replicate his outfit from head to toe. Kudos sir!

Blogger Stine said ... (6:57 PM) :

So cool! But the oversized bag with the supertight jeans could probably have been done a bit differently.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:38 PM) :

Ooh he's a teeny weenie pixie! With only the huge bag and the huge door to give this picture scale, I'm sure he's only about a foot tall!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:08 PM) :

ohhhh, it's soooo nice!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:10 PM) :

I like his clothes, and the bag, but the shoes and the jeans don't really go. He just looks scary and even though his legs are very thin, they are too thin in my oppinion, and therefore do not look good in those jeans.

Blogger John Danner said ... (8:18 PM) :

The bag is too much, but despite that, damn this is terrific.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 PM) :

I love the colors and textures. That scarf is perfect. And of course the bag is amazing. however, the bag owns the man, not the other way around. Also I wish he had more shoulder support to give him a V line and make him look larger. I don't always mind skinny jeans, but these give him chicken legs.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (8:48 PM) :

Whut!!? What a beautiful picture this is, Scott!!

This one should go in your book.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:50 PM) :

love the doors in he background. they match the bag and the shoes.

Could the shoes be RM Williams?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:18 PM) :

I think the colour of the shirt is genius - eyecatching, yet subtle detail.
I agree about the jeans; a bit more give in them would have looked nicer.

Blogger eline_vs@hotmail.com said ... (9:23 PM) :

Totally agree with Andreas; us Scandinavians should get a life and not wear pants that even the most non-existing calves bulge through. Very unflattering and they make his very nice shoes look like clown's shoes.

Blogger Kassiani said ... (9:36 PM) :

A very stylish man! I love the boots and scarf; the jeans are a bit too skinny though.

Blogger christian barnard land studio said ... (10:52 PM) :

Scale is an important concept to grasp in any design discipline....the bag is out of scale. Very cool jacket and shoes though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:35 PM) :

In this case, I'd say the fantastic photo WAY outshines the ensemble. Another I'd like to frame in my own home. Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:55 PM) :

He looks as if he's just come OUT of that bag! -- Or could fold himself into it if he chose to.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:50 AM) :

I like his play of oversized medic bag + too slim jeans. Why cannot American boys have the gift of innate style?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 AM) :

Would do the entire outfit sans the overly tight jeans. C'mon dude.

Imagine with khaki, high waist, wide-leg pants with cuffed hems. Replace purple velvet scarf with dark brown wool, add a leather beret same color as bag, and an Alfa-Romeo (in Alfa red). Oh and some driving glasses and gloves.

Awesome.
- dude from L.A.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:10 AM) :

Although I think the bag by itself is exquisite, it looks rather ridiculous with the rest of the outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:24 AM) :

Nah, it's not the bag, nor the skinny jeans, it's the fact that he is posing with his knees overstretched (like a ballet dancer) that is just ungood, and makes this man imho look downright silly. I would have bought it if he would have stood more upright, without the sloughy shoulders (like a ballet dancer), because I find his dress sense perfectly acceptable. Even with the rather unitalian unruly hair ;-)

Blogger seasonc said ... (2:34 AM) :

Love the bag!!!

well his style is quite close to mine.

Blogger red.door.read said ... (6:48 AM) :

i am absolutely loving these larger photos.

that bag is gorgeous. be mine.

Blogger James Kenny said ... (7:25 AM) :

I like the jacket and the boots and maybe his head...hate those jeans, not keen on the bag...

Blogger Vanya Du Toit said ... (8:55 AM) :

BEAUTIFUL!! i have similar shoes that i bought in venice, the same colour as the bag, and i wear them to death.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:59 AM) :

I just love the background of old wood and wrought iron. His beautiful leather bag harmonize perfectly with that.
The gentleman and his outfit is not too disturbing either.

Blogger LINDSAY said ... (9:04 AM) :

Ha! The first thing that comes to my mind is MARY POPPINS' bag and the scene where she pulls her lamp from it. This man could be that lamp!

Blogger Sarah said ... (9:09 AM) :

MARRY ME!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:13 AM) :

I love all the pieces, but all together it seems like it might be one trend too many. To help the proportion of the outfit, perhaps he should have either downsized the bag, uncuffed the jeans or even taken off the scarf. As another remarked above, a smile would have helped.

That said, the look does seem to grow on me the more I look at it, though maybe I'm just being seduced by that remarkable bag...

xxox

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 AM) :

I didn't get it.

Blogger Stephen Connor said ... (9:47 AM) :

Oh c'mon...... This guy has some great garments that fit him perfectly........from the waist up !!!!! If the guy feels the need to draw attention to himself with the comedy jeans then more fool him. With a proper pair of trousers/jeans (Maybe that's what he's got in the bag) he would look superb. Skin tight jeans on men..... No!!!!!!

Blogger carlito said ... (10:37 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:57 PM) :

Very interesting image. He has a great face and great style and although I'd personally prefer slightly looser jeans, he knows what he's doing and it's really a matter of taste.

I think the thing with the bag is, it's too big to be carried that way. It would be fine carried in the hand, or placed on the ground for the shot. With the bag held in the crook of his arm he looks a little defensive. But I salute photographer and subject.

Blogger Laurie Luxe said ... (11:44 PM) :

Everything but the tight pants.

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (4:46 AM) :

Besides the fact that he could hide inside his own bag, this is a beautiful outfit, the bag, the shoes, the jacket are wonderful! Not a fan of the slim jeans, but they fit well here, and what a fantastic background!!!

Blogger Joy said ... (5:50 PM) :

He is handsome but there is some humor in this: how does he not tip over??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:50 PM) :

How ever did he get his feet all the way through those pant legs and out the bottom? One decent fart and he'll blow his boots right off. Not my cuppa tea at all.

I am afraid to think about how much I would pay for a bag like that. It blurs the lines between accessory, luggage and sculpture. If he were a foot taller and weighed another 100 pounds it would suit him so much better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 PM) :

Why is it that your subjects, sart, always have the most complimentarty and colour co-ordinated backgrounds!? It's really amazing. Of course I know why. It's the person taking the picture.

Blogger conrad said ... (1:55 AM) :

love the bag, love the doors. Amazing image.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:30 PM) :

I hate the bag with his...everything else. I can fully appreciate how well styled he is without the bag, very tight jeans and all, but I am just so put off by this huge, slouchy bag with nothing else to offset it. it doesn't feel cohesive.

Of course, maybe this is just the evolution of the little boy running away from home?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:18 PM) :

I really really want those shoes.

WHERE CAN I GET A BAG LIKE THIS??!!? I've been looking and looking and I just fell in love!

Bag is too big for him (said plenty of times before), jeans make too bold of a combination (in my mind) but do somehow mix in well, though I am not a great fan of skinnies. Jacket is nice but I don't like three button ones. Ohh and I like the pocket square! There you go, a second thing that i like about this photo!

fantastic, he's like a little elf lost in the city with his own threasure in a big big mary poppins' bag!!!!!The misproportions are abslolutely charming, I love extra large or long bags + slim fit

Everything about this picture looks slightly odd. That's why I love it. The scale is slightly weird, from the door to the bag, to the trousers, to the jacket, to the tiny-toffee turn ups on his jeans.

It begs the question, does this image mark the end of skinny?

I LOVE it! I love how you see his cuff and then a splash of his collar from underneath his twisted scarff. The bag is a little big...but who knows, mayeb he was coming from an overnight?!

i like this guy, particularly those boots and the bag make me mad.

Perhaps he is traveling and that is the reason for the otherwise too-large bag.

Love it. The Super skinnies are amazing! The bag, despite being a little off putting because of the size, is amazing. Great composition.

anyone else see the resemblance between his bag and the Chloe "Tracy" model?

He's funky to the max! He knows it too. He's having a lot of fun as he denies us even a smile.

The bag seems to throw the outfit off-balance.

I'm guessing he doesn't want to have kids, in pants that tight.
