Love the glasses.
Is that her natural hair color? Would be so cool if it were. Lucky her in any case. Gorgeous tresses.

Sart,
I'm really enjoying this image - just striking. Could you talk a bit to the photographers out here about how you made this image? Are you only working with available light?

Blogger Simone Rene said ... (9:15 AM) :

a red head in green velvet..another classic that we needed reminding of..thanks!

Blogger Lucy said ... (9:20 AM) :

She is a bit of Ireland in Milan.
I am so attracted by this picture because it reminds me the amazing time I spent in Dublin (I miss that city), and because she looks quite similar to a dear friend of mine... I can't stop watching!
A special note to her glasses, fashionable but not too ordinary (as big nerd glasses are)

Blogger The Concrete Commentator said ... (9:20 AM) :

Love her hair! Her glasses are perfect. and I like her fitted little jacket, with the...looks like a pear brooch. It's all very collegiate, in a good way!

Blogger qiwy said ... (9:21 AM) :

Gorgeous!!!!

xxx

Blogger Lucy said ... (9:22 AM) :

By the way, I'd suggest her to change the brooch because this one looks too much as something bought at a Topshop store 2 years ago...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:28 AM) :

The hair makes this picture brill I think!

Blogger Ufrasia said ... (9:32 AM) :

I've long red hair too.... wearing bottle green always makes me look too St. Patrick's Day-ish. But this girl looks great! Will reconsider my aversion. x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:42 AM) :

LOVE that green velvet w/ that red hair...so dynamic! What a great pic!

she is fantastic- a natural beauty in green velvet on a strip of green grass in the midle of a bustling city street- this is a great photo!

If Millais or Dante Rossetti were alive they would be fascinated by her!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 AM) :

the composition of her beautiful hair against the jacket is magnificent!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:47 AM) :

Great fit, texture, and silhouette, but the green on green on auburn is too close to st. patty for my comfort.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 AM) :

love it when readheads don't wear pink or red. she has great style and doesn't look like it took her too much time to dress. a bit tomboy-ish. her colour sense reminds me of tilda swinton another very very stylish redhead.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:12 AM) :

Fantastic! Like a 'contemporary' version of a Botticelli painting!
Congratulations to both: girl and sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:16 AM) :

It's funny how colour reference works for each person… it made me remember of Botticelli… others Ireland… ahhh the world!

Blogger Claire said ... (11:19 AM) :

She has my hair colour!! Pretty much exactly! What an awesome surprise to see this photo in my google reader :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 AM) :

Blogger Barbara said ... (11:23 AM) :

Breathtaking - a real redhead with her porcelain skin. A beautiful woman. I would have preferred to see a looser, wider bottom to her silhouette for some edginess, although she does look neat and slender in her jeans. The colours are lovely and gentle. She's gorgeous.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:28 AM) :

Her red hair against the green velvet is fabulous and the pin accent is perfect!

Bella donna! Great glasses and a lovely shot. And not a cell phone in sight.

Blogger melange muse said ... (12:41 PM) :

This picture is FANTASTIC! I love everything about it. The hair, the glasses the green velvet jacket, the clutch. It really is just an AWESOME picture.

well done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 PM) :

She looks absolutely gorgeous!

Her hair is fantastic, and she did a good job with wearing this bottle-green jacket. gives it so much deepness. This hair should not have a competition in colour. Just perfectly matched.
I'm impressed.

Blogger Haunted Isles said ... (1:02 PM) :

Gorgeous green.

Blogger Eli said ... (1:03 PM) :

Never thought Id see a velvet blazer again, but she works it really well, and that hair...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 PM) :

Red hair and bottle green, one of my favourite combinations...

Blogger Min said ... (1:07 PM) :

i don't know why but i'm reminded of a medieval throwback, because her hair is so awesome and she's wearing velvet. great shot!

Blogger Dr. Debonaire said ... (1:14 PM) :

that blazer is a dream!

Blogger thwany said ... (1:14 PM) :

this is a powerful photo

Blogger Candace said ... (1:16 PM) :

Now I want a green velvet blazer! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:17 PM) :

What matters it if she purchased her brooch at Topshop a few years ago? Could be this is a young woman who judges her possessions not by cost or age but by the value she finds in them.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (1:19 PM) :

I think the glasses are Ray Ban. If not, they make a very similar pair... I'm wearing them right now.

She's heavenly.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (1:24 PM) :

this picture is technically really, really good!

Blogger Isao said ... (1:32 PM) :

I love that green velvet, and the tiny pear is it cute or what. But that hair, I can't move my eyes from it, it looks like fire.

Blogger Sasha said ... (1:37 PM) :

A velvet jacket can be very chic if you dress it up simply instead of over the top.

www.runway-tomorrow.blogspot.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:38 PM) :

I am not too fond of the glasses. However, her hair juxtaposed against her green velvet jacket, makes the outfit... and her just exquisite.

Blogger cami falcão said ... (1:45 PM) :

love the colors...hair, velvet and skin.....great portrait

Blogger Kay said ... (1:46 PM) :

She really knows how to compliment her red hair, it looks stunning. I absolutely love her colour choices, and this really shows the importance of material as well. The velvet makes it look magical, enchanting.

Blogger Theresa said ... (1:47 PM) :

Beautiful hair - green looks so good with auburn. Also velvet is HOT

style remains

Blogger SAREF said ... (1:49 PM) :

Stunning! Her fire spun hair and luxurious velvet green blazer result in a magnificent combination. Great photograph!

She is just awesome.
Would love to see her shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:11 PM) :

i'm loving the eyeglasses.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:12 PM) :

I have that same jacket and every time wear it I lament I don't have a red maine like this beautiful girl.

Blogger Gypmar said ... (2:15 PM) :

Well, now, that's just not fair.

Blogger Lydia said ... (2:27 PM) :

I never thought I would want a green velvet suit....

This is stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:29 PM) :

i suggest she puts a gold "button"(my english is a bit limited on such themes) to enlight the jacket. I did with my own green velvet jacket(actually i took them from a Marine jacket) and that really gives it a special thing..details change everything i believe.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:51 PM) :

Breathtaking photo. Can't take my eyes off of it.

Blogger No Salvation said ... (3:08 PM) :

Simple outfit yet the colour, hair and glasses make it stunning. I wish I was a red head!

Blogger August Clothing said ... (3:13 PM) :

Thank you for showing all facets of beauty!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:14 PM) :

This photo has a different feel than your other photos. amazing clear/focus. new camera? Did you take this through a window - I seem to see a reflection/glare across her forehead? I think this is one of your best ones yet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:18 PM) :

The red and green are really lovely but what gets me is the gray and green. Lovely combination and the fit on everything is perfect. As for the brooch, anyone who would look at that and judge her less for having brooch from topshop from two years ago is far from a fashion setter and of no importance.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:29 PM) :

beautiful, simple and to die for.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:34 PM) :

OMG that HAIR!!!! Beautiful.....but I don't understand what's with these fake geeky glasses nowadays? Can anybody enlighten me?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:45 PM) :

an angel caught in your lense, breathtaking!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 PM) :

The simplicity of her black pants and grey top emphasise the luxurious fabric and colour of her jacket. I love her tiny blue clutch tonally matches. Her (amazing!) loose hair and the spectacles prevent her looking too dramatic. Great post, Sart.
May I add how happy I am that today is the beginning of a wonderful new era of hope and that America has a new First Lady who is beautiful, elegant, modern and supremely stylish, yet is clearly so much more than her clothes?

Blogger Dominica said ... (3:46 PM) :

Velvet is my favourite fabric !
The green is beautiful, almost regal...I can see a Queen like Anna Boleyn in the 16th Century walking in a dress made in the same colour and fabric...
The girl has royal hair too ...fierce !!
Love that little detail of the pear brooch...

Blogger MARIA H said ... (3:57 PM) :

epic!!!

Blogger porter hovey said ... (4:20 PM) :

Wow! Great hair . . . great glasses!!

Blogger Nikki - - Monomestile - - said ... (4:38 PM) :

The fabric looks so luxurious--adds an elite quality to her look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:03 PM) :

stunning.

Blogger Grace Yim said ... (5:16 PM) :

glasses are amazing.
same with her hair. i wish mine was like that

Blogger mare said ... (5:57 PM) :

as a natural redhead who owned a green velvet blazer in college, i have to say it got a lot of compliments. but it always felt like a lazy fashion choice.

Blogger Rebecca Leão said ... (6:08 PM) :

Fantastic contrast. The red complements the green and this outfit looks very well with the colour of her skin. So cool...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 PM) :

She is delightful! You've really been inspiring me a lot, lately. My favorite three photos in a long while are this, the woman with the striped stockings & yellow coat, and the older, grey haired woman with the gorgeous monochromatic ensemble of pewter and earth-tone grays. It's all very invigorating. Thank you.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (6:50 PM) :

Gorgeous gorgeous photo! The texture of the velvet, the colours...love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:20 PM) :

Wow. As a redhead, I was certain I would read these comments and some of them would be negative. So glad to hear the positive thoughts about red hair.

Blogger J.A.F. said ... (8:03 PM) :

Gorgeous just gorgeous! Like a sartorialist Botticelli.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:12 PM) :

I'm insanely in love with the colors.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:16 PM) :

Beautiful in every way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:31 PM) :

she's like a pre-raphaelite vision... ethereal and stunning.

yet, there is something about the pin that throws the look off. i would prefer the outfit's simplicity without the brooch. or with a vintage gold brooch. (however, who knows, it may hold sentimental value or have a deeper story/meaning, which totally transcends my superficial, purely aesthetic judgments..)

Blogger Laura Z. said ... (8:38 PM) :

I can't get over this picture! I love it to death!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 PM) :

This is adorable. The forest green color sets of her hair so nicely.

Blogger Maddie said ... (9:00 PM) :

I love this picture. It's whimsical. :)

Blogger Montgomery said ... (9:00 PM) :

She looks just wonderful.

Only 2% of the worlds population are true redheads. Scotland's population has 13%.

She has power in her beauty. She looks to be a modern queen

Blogger Viviane Costa Pinto do Ó said ... (9:08 PM) :

I'm in love with her.

She's gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:20 PM) :

wow all of the details of the outfit look great. From her nail polish to the pin, to the strap of the clutch and just everything. The colors of the background are great too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 PM) :

so gorgeous...omg sart you have captured such a romantic moment here. The texture of the velvet contrasting with her hair is great, in addition to the obvious color complements.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 PM) :

In my next life when I come back I'm coming back as her, eternally in this pose and dress.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:35 PM) :

This photo is absolutely stunning, extremely well done as usual, something out of a fairy tale. Her jacket looks so luscious and her hair my goodness! Beautiful skin, lovely glasses, very honest and humble.

To "The Fashion Setter" that was straight up the dumbest comment I've seen here yet. I would be ashamed of myself if I judged someone's pin like that, as if it matters where it's from or how old. You know nothing about this girl or her choice in clothing and accessories and seemingly nothing about style either from that comment alone. I normally check out comment's blogs but rest assured you will receive no traffic from me.

Blogger denada said ... (11:52 PM) :

This one is stunning -- composition, color, texture, everything. Your work just keeps getting better and better!

Blogger suzee said ... (2:38 AM) :

Everything is just so harmonious with each other, truly bringing out her features. The voluminous hair, light glowing skin and the shape of her body are all apparent. The more mellow darker lighting also brings a somber and sophisticated mood to this portrait.

Blogger Suze said ... (3:29 AM) :

Beautiful...it reminds me of a friends wedding. She had a naturally redder shade of hair, and worked for a fashion house at the time. They made her a green velvet jacket with gold embroidery, worn over a softly drapped cream dress...that was over thirty years ago.

A fashion statement that has no time limit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:41 AM) :

Wow, great shot !
There's an amazing grace in it.

Fantastic

I've never been a fan of the color green, but everytime I see pictures like this it reminds me that I gotta wear more green, since it is so beautiful together with my haircolor. yes, I got the same color as the girl in the pic, just that hers is a bit more faded than mine.
I gotta wear green! *makes an mental-note*
