Rio!!

So I traded the fun and sun of Moscow for the cloudy gloom of Rio!!!

I will try to suffer through.

The first images from Rio will probably appear Friday and continue into next week.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:29 PM) :

A lot more fun to read these posts - as opposed to the snarling blogs about Michelle Obama's dress !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:58 PM) :

Oh my God, you´re in Rio!!! Your blog is really famous over here! Walk down all over Leblon and Ipanema, not only by the beaches, but down the streets and throughout the neighbourhoods as well. Take a walk down Visconde de Piraja and Garcia D´avila(Ipanema), and Dias Ferreira and Ataulfo de Paiva (Leblon). Take a walk down Leblon beach on sunday morning, early afternoon. Go to the bohemian neighbourhood of Gavea, and mingle and browse through the bars of Baixo Gavea on weekends and monday nights. Go to Lapa, Bailinho, have dinner at Copa Cafe, Gero, Zuka, Carlota, Cipriani, Margutta, Le Ble Noir, D´amici, Fasano Al Mare.

At any given (late) night, go to Pizzaria Guanabara at Baixo Leblon. Have breakfast at Parque Lage or Talho Capixaba. Take a morning walk down Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas on a weekend.

This city currently has a lot of problems and is going through a lot. We´ve seen better days, but we still manage to somehow keep some of our charm, and very few landscapes can be as beautiful and as breathtaking as one of our sunsets.

But I dont think our sense of style will particularlly please you. Yes, it can young, vibrant, colourful, sexy and contemporary, but its not as edgy and minimalist as you sometimes seem to favour.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:04 PM) :

Got Gravity? What a terrific photo. Rio Beach Buns redeems all the men in Moscow we never saw...

Nós sentimos a carga de seu sofrimento em nossos corações. Obrigado.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:10 PM) :

On the other hand, having you here may be a great opportunity for cariocas to be seen in a less stereotypical light. We are not all tanned, golden haired surfer girls in small bikinis, we are not all black, we are not latinos and we dont all look like Alessandra Ambrosio (unfortunatly. It may be a chance for the world to see that brazillians come in all colors, shapes, sizes, ethinicities, hair and body tipes. From milk white skin to blacks and everything in between. Hope this is an oportunity for people to see how diverse, different, collorful, and unique we are.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 PM) :

yyyyuuuuuuuummmmmmmmyyyyyy

Blogger Peace in a Time of War said ... (9:19 PM) :

I see your our Brazilian fans popping out here and there, thought I was the only one.

Excited and anxious to see what's coming up.

Blogger Renata Maia said ... (9:42 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 PM) :

Can't wit for more from Rio!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 PM) :

I can only hope one day american men will embrace the hot short. All the men in brazil wear them no matter their shape and they always look better than a big baggy swim trunk.
great shot by the way. makes me miss home.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 PM) :

Uauuuuuuuuuu, não vejo a hora de ver as carioquices!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:32 PM) :

Blogger Holly Brindley said ... (12:17 AM) :

a delightful moment.

Blogger MCCVI said ... (12:27 AM) :

sart... i have followed you since october of '06, longer than most i suspect. i turned to your inspired sartorial reflectivity and curiousity to enhance my own sense of men's style and, thereby, enrich my own (even when inspired by the fairer sex). i find myself drifting now. the blog has become much more about fashion than style, more about dernier cri than timeless tailoring, more armani and bastian than agnelli or barbera. i am well aware that progress takes us place that we cannot predict, yet it would be wonderful to see more of the old sartorialist woven through. maybe, if only, as a walk down memory lane. i admit my memory might be distorted, forgive me for any hyperbole.

please post this comment, if you might.

Blogger John Danner said ... (12:56 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:04 AM) :

Excellent news! Are you also visiting Sao Paulo? Completely different crew down there :-)

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (5:01 AM) :

for mark
Really?
i just looked at October again and I saw Robert R, Simone, Beppe, Mr. Marni, George Cortina and a lot of other very inspiring mens shots - and i dont like any of them are wearing Armani or boss.

i havent put mens up while i was in Moscow because those images will have to go to my GQ page but but i am sure i will find good stuff here in Rio

if you want a heavy dose of sartorial then check out January and June when i am at Pitti.

The "zona sul" is very nice and beautiful but the real findings are not there!

Oh, and go to Petropolis, the imperial city. Very close and very cool!
