I really hope they are having sex. Look at those eyes! Closed. The one on the right has completely engulfed the other's beak with it's own. Sexy.

Blogger Kyle Dunn said ... (7:24 PM) :

Maybe fighting then make-up sex.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (7:25 PM) :

Either way, incredible photo. Very nice, as usual. I like seeing non-sartorial work on here too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:50 PM) :

I think they are having sex, passionate sex:)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 PM) :

absolutely LOVE the monotone layering in contrast with the bright red boots. it's not a look i would wear but they pull it off real nice. the texture of the jacket is what brings the whole look together. in a word, FABULOUS.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:59 PM) :

"sometimes it looks similar."

As with humans.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:59 PM) :

The same can be said about my parents.

Blogger marya said ... (9:09 PM) :

lolz.

Blogger Thomas said ... (9:10 PM) :

Scott! Do you have a bodyguard? How do you walk around Copacabana with a 5d and not get mugged? Our friends in Morro do Cantagalo are curious.

My Carioca friends always said just bring a sunga, 20 reais, maconha y nada mais. That might be more fun but you miss the good fotos.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:32 PM) :

Yaaayyy! You're in my hometown! hope to see tons of pics!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:39 PM) :

LOL! this is probably one of the funniest comments i've ever read: absolutely LOVE the monotone layering in contrast with the bright red boots. it's not a look i would wear but they pull it off real nice. the texture of the jacket is what brings the whole look together. in a word, FABULOUS.

you have a fantastic sense of humor. and sart, thanks for the gorgeous photo. you even manage to make filthy pigeons look beautiful.

Blogger ~A said ... (12:12 AM) :

Please tell me you posted this after a few drinks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 AM) :

they might be getting ready to have sex. I saw birds acting like that once, and then start mating. great shot.

Blogger Jaime Randle said ... (3:11 AM) :

It's about to be a... what? BIRD FIGHT!*

bahahaha

*Google Brooke Valentine's "Girl Fight" if you are slow on the uptake.

Coincidence that the thing I have to type in for word verification is "clothy?!"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:17 AM) :

Stunning! Absolutely stunning picture!

Blogger Barbara said ... (4:18 AM) :

Does it matter whether they are fighting or having sex - they will hopefully just kill each other! I hate them, they are flying rats.......vermin.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:13 AM) :

It looks like they are kissing each other... Lovely.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (7:43 AM) :

Sex and fighting...it's almost the same thing!!

Nice pic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:07 AM) :

The first in my life I can see beauty in pigeons...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:05 AM) :

Foreplay!?!

Blogger Rafael said ... (9:45 AM) :

It is a mom pigeon feeding her baby, not fighting.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:54 AM) :

Yes I cannot separate the difference here at home either ...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:42 PM) :

they fight and make love they fight and make love they fight and make love they fight and make love they fight and make love they fight and make love they fight and make love

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:19 PM) :

They're fighting. I took a similar picture from my window, it seems pigeons have a hierarchy, they were fighting in order to determine which pigeon was the boss.
My picture is lousy (high iso, low light, it's very noisy), but if you care to see it, it's here:
http://cinciamogia.wordpress.com/2008/07/20/ancora-piccioni/
Anyway, all of your pictures of Rio make me feel like packing summer dresses and get there at the speed of light.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 PM) :

Well, isn't he a casanova! ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:24 PM) :

kiss kiss love love

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:12 PM) :

with so much amazing things hapening in rio, beautiful people, you are disapointing...birds?
whats that?i´m disapointed..
where are the peoplew we have amazing...not models, but real and brazilian style..i didnt saw yet...

Blogger Rosie the Cat said ... (8:01 PM) :

I don't think it's either...just a spontanious kiss...look how she's caught off guard!

Blogger D. Debil said ... (12:46 PM) :

this shot has a timelessness that fascinated me. How many cobblestone squares over the centuries have been the scene of two pigeons battling for dominance? This picture could be from any age of the western culture.

The perfect composition is so understated as to be utterly invisible.

Blogger TL said ... (2:04 PM) :

It's so funny that you just happened to be near these two birds and you caught them...red handed

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:17 PM) :

to the seasoned birdwatcher, that is a mother rock dove feeding its nearly grown chick. Unnerving, all the same.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:44 PM) :

i think they're kissing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 PM) :

has anyone who contributed to this comment page seen a fight or sex before? the two look nothing alike. unless we're talking about greco-roman wrestling, of course.

Blogger thwany said ... (10:31 PM) :

hahah

Blogger Melanpyge said ... (8:29 AM) :

They are not fighting. Male and female do that with their beaks always before they copulate.

Pigeon observer and dearest friend.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:19 AM) :

awwhh...love birds kissing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 PM) :

"has anyone who contributed to this comment page seen a fight or sex before? the two look nothing alike. unless we're talking about greco-roman wrestling, of course."

Ha ha ha good point! But of course if one is suddenly frozen as a single frame it could look like either...

And many a small child has been traumatised by catching their parents in a passionate clasp. "Daddy! Stop hurting Mummy like that!"

Blogger Petefrombookham said ... (4:52 AM) :

Sometimes, it is the same thing

Blogger American Otaku (E is my SL) said ... (2:45 PM) :

wow... all of you r wierd (and funny!)... they're just fighting over food.... "pigeon sex"... u people, seriously.... ^_^
