Ahhh. The famous Ipaneme beach. I love the dog, so cute! Pictures are wonderful as always. Are you going to Copacabana as well?

Blogger pablo said ... (4:34 PM) :

aw... the dog's little shoes
when are you coming to mexico?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:40 PM) :

the dog shoes are cute

The patterned shorts are interesting.

Wish it were shorts weather here!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:43 PM) :

That girl is just amazingly beautiful !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:51 PM) :

Even the dogs are beautiful in Rio...sigh...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:52 PM) :

OMG - it's like they have won the trifecta!! Hot Guy, Hot Girl & Cute Dog. There must be something in the water in Ipanema? Bet the cats are ugly though, haha!

Hey Scott, when are you coming to Oz? It's summer here and I bet we give the Rio tribe a run for their money:)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:57 PM) :

this is rio!
this is cool!
if you want to see something more old and historical a good place is close to PRAÇA 15 dawntown. there is a very nice caffe to have lunch in paço museum and close by you can see the Pharmacy granado that is there since 1870.
if you are still in rio go there....if not maybe another time.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

What a truly great eye it must take to spot the sartorial subtlety of a guy in board shorts and flip flops.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 PM) :

not stylish, but great common characters from rio's weekends..
love your blog! wish you could stay here a little longer!
beijos

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

Cute shoes on the doggie, and a hip haircut, too!

Blogger ryder said ... (5:10 PM) :

nothing really fashionable to comment on here. though the woman looks comfortable and confident and has great earrings.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:13 PM) :

All 3 are a yawn.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:24 PM) :

bad shorts, good abs.

Blogger Chelsea said ... (5:41 PM) :

Always been a sucker for a cute guy in boardshorts and flip-flops...hang ten!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:01 PM) :

RIO!

who cares about the clothes - it is all about the city - the tiles of ipanema are fashion enough.

Blogger Fly Girl said ... (6:11 PM) :

I was just in Rio a few months ago and I never saw sights like these! The color and cut of those pants drape the girl perfectly.

Blogger MARCELO AMORELLI said ... (6:13 PM) :

Sart,

What has Rio done to you? I guess - for the first time in this blog - I can see you photografing pigeons, coconuts, dog ... and not only people streetwear. And you know what? I loved it!

Hope you are having a great time there and consider about coming more often to Brazil ;)

Best regards, Marcelo.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (6:18 PM) :

Am loving these photos of Rio, the above truly reflect the vibe of Rio...The dog is too cute!

Blogger Jonas said ... (6:28 PM) :

i don't know what's sartorial about this swimsuit or anything else. he's not very attractive and i can get a suit like that at target. and that haircut is trifling.

Blogger Not Required said ... (6:44 PM) :

I love this blog.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 PM) :

isn't this a fashion blog? the boy is hot but quicksilver board shorts and havaianas? yikes.

Blogger Bedlam said ... (7:16 PM) :

I love the lady in outfit in the first photo, however I can't get over the lady in the background to the right with the fruit (watch the background activity)

Blogger Fifi said ... (7:21 PM) :

It's got boots!!

And I love her pants, such a cool change from the regular black/brow/white block colours we always see over here in Oz.

Blogger Bruna Costa said ... (7:26 PM) :

ook,
about the guy i think i'm kind of used to it, you know? he's gorgeous, fits perfectly but it's commun beach clothing, at least for us.
The girl however looks awesome. the colours are just perfect and her body makes the bikinis prettier !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:37 PM) :

I don't know why there is people around here that expected to find sartorial looks at a Rio de Janeiro beach. People that go to the beach are thinking about comfortability and there isn't best way to have it than using a swimsuit with flip-flops.

The photos were beautiful taken. I'm sure that there is not anything wrong with taking pictures like these in beautiful places like Rio de Janeiro sometimes.

Great job and congratulations for your blog.

Blogger jackieG said ... (7:43 PM) :

oh no...the mullet has made it to rio, too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:52 PM) :

hes a hoittie but hes nto very stylish
what happened

Blogger adervise said ... (8:07 PM) :

SO this boy is HOT, that's the first thing I noticed... whatever he wears will look sartorial, he's got an edge, and he's got a story, and that's hot, and sometimes, some people are so suave they look good in anything...or practically nothing!

Blogger Leila said ... (8:08 PM) :

These pictures really show the beauty of Rio, beyond the necessity of showing people wearing new fashion trends from head to toes. But the vibe you get in that city, the positive energy, could never be felt by only pictures! You have to be there to really experience it! And I can see that you are...

Keep up the good work, and make sure you go to Jardim Botanico, Parque do Lage! I don't know you, but I know you'll love it!

Beijos!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:18 PM) :

fashion: not really
attractive: oui oui oui

Blogger Misterparticular said ... (8:42 PM) :

did everybody miss the play on pattern and color with the boardwalk and the boardshorts?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:02 PM) :

The girl: Pants look like a housecoat.

The dog: Amazing shoes. I would love to see a doggie Comme des Garcons tool belt!

The boy: Sure you aren't in Northern California?

Blogger The Dog Dish said ... (9:06 PM) :

I like the pics! Poor dog must be dying of heat wearing booties in the summer at the beach, let the paws breathe! Haha! They are cute though!

Blogger Paradis said ... (9:16 PM) :

Cute dog, cute guy, very nice photos!

Blogger Ms. Katee/e-polishblog said ... (9:32 PM) :

The little doggy is my favorite :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:36 PM) :

I like the lady in the background carrying the coconuts

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 PM) :

what exactly is stylish about this guy? long swim suit in Ipanema? he has a nice fit body, but so 90% of the guys in Rio. Disappointing trip...

Blogger novas tecnologias said ... (9:57 PM) :

these pictures are so Rio!!!!
just love it!

too bad some people here seems to forget that fashion is not only about the clothes...

love your work!!!

hope you are enjoying the city!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:47 PM) :

Le sigh. I love you Sart. I want to make that guy my wallpaper. Better yet, maybe I'll get my stalker on...

Love the attitude of all 3 subjects. I want that pup!

Blogger ERman said ... (11:01 PM) :

Oh my!! Rio..here I come. Look at that washboard ab and the ladies.. what is in the air??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:06 PM) :

peronally i think that the doggie's shoes were the most stylish piece out of the 3 photos

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:07 PM) :

to pedro and the sartorialist

"of or relating to a tailor or tailored clothes"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:13 PM) :

I'm quite disappointed in the photograph of the young man.

His backpack, flip flops, accessories, and certainly his board shorts are all quite boring. The purpose in this shot lies in the man's body.

I'm disappointed because I thought this blog was dedicated to photographing and exposing the most interesting and ingenious sartorial decisions. By photographing a man's bare chest, you are reverting back to the abominable American mindset and perpetuating a culture of body image-obsessed people. So many people are inspired by this blog because it inheres a sense of reward for those who are smart and creative enough to put together a great outfit. There is nothing creative about a good body.

This photograph undermines my belief in the beauty of this blog, I'm sorry to say.

Blogger Jill Turner said ... (11:27 PM) :

Sart,

Stay in Brasil forever. These are my favorite pics from you since Stockholm!!!!!

-Jill

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:45 PM) :

forget the sartorial for a minute, please. his body is an aesthetic masterpiece. in the eternal words of dionne in the movie clueless, "break me off a piece of that!" and in the just as eternal words of the smiths, "please, please, please let me get what i want!" he's like built like adonis.

Blogger Miguel said ... (12:14 AM) :

Now! I need to go there.... Rio is it? Right?

Blogger John B Pritchett said ... (12:17 AM) :

Oh my gosh I'm headed to Rio but not for the guy or dog,,,

Blogger lisa @ luxe said ... (12:28 AM) :

ohhh....i want to be walking there too!!! :)

Blogger Somnia Carvalho said ... (1:12 AM) :

I don´t now exactly... but I didn´t like. The girl is the most commom look that you can find in any beaches in Brazil. We buy this pants with the guys in front of the beaches and many them are much more beautiful than this one. The biquini has a bad colour im my opinion. The guy is using a interesting shorts, but nothing more...
is hard for me thing that they are fashion... probably because i saw this look all my life...

Blogger crystal said ... (1:38 AM) :

The guy and girl look so fly & cool and the dog is adoreable!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:18 AM) :

In this rainy, stormy & cold German autumn it's really hard to look at these wonderful pics, os full of easy living and gauzy clothes ;-)

Blogger Rita said ... (2:56 AM) :

The girl looks so chilled and relaxed, I love it. And the doggie is sooo cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:25 AM) :

The best place!!!!

Blogger Naomi said ... (3:49 AM) :

Tall, and tan and young, and lovely, the girl from Ipanema goes walking and when she passes each one, she passes, goes aaahh...

A beautiful song for beautiful pictures !

Blogger jkh said ... (4:19 AM) :

yes, 3times yawn.
good morning

Blogger peaitlreiecnia said ... (4:36 AM) :

there must be something in the water. i'm going to move there

:)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:07 AM) :

It was expected. As soon as you step away from 'Rio summer fashion week' the outfits get pretty normal & boring - Being half Brazilian I can safely say that Rio is certainly not a fashion destination.

Blogger Zaydoun said ... (5:27 AM) :

The guy must be a tourist... a real Carioca would be wearing a sunga

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (5:54 AM) :

Great shots! The guy's short's are fantastic!
Rio is always amazing!

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:46 AM) :

wow....i check this site out every few days and usually see fantastic fashion. I love rio, i live here, i have very fashionable friends here, but this is subpar.

i saw you at the fashion shows and you got a few good pictures at the beginning, now I'm just dissapointed....

Blogger cami falcão said ... (6:50 AM) :

as i said before, just come to São Paulo, please.....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:09 AM) :

Escuse me, have you got the boy´s phone number? jejejje
viva brasil!

Blogger cat minoki said ... (7:53 AM) :

eeeeeh.... ok I take the boy!
(but only because his shorts match so good with the ground), hehe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 AM) :

Love the pictures ! Yeah, that's exactly how people wear clothes in Rio ! And that's why the city is so famous around the world.
I am from Sao Paulo, but I am living in London, can't wait to go to Brazil this summer.
It would be great if you could go to Sao Paulo, and then compare the styles between Rio and Sao Paulo, like you did in Stockholm (Sodermalm and Ostermalm).

Blogger Michael Rex said ... (8:32 AM) :

That last picture want me want to spread some peanut butter! :-P

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:36 AM) :

Can't get away this year....cash crunch. So your pics are like a mini holiday.

Blogger TheMinx said ... (10:22 AM) :

The BOY...*faints*

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:31 AM) :

olha que coisa mais linda...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:53 AM) :

Rio is adorable and the people are too much beautifull and friendly.
I love teh girl look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 AM) :

LOVE the pooch!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 AM) :

Those pants on the girl 1.picture, I didn't like them. But she looked pretty anyways, the bikini top and the ear rings looks good in each otters company and I love those sunglasses!

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (11:37 AM) :

That first image IS the image I see in my mind's eye when I hear "The Girl from Ipanema..."

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:42 AM) :

This boy is certainly a local. Not a tourist. He is the perfect visual definition of the boy from Rio´s "Zona Sul".

Most guys wear shorts like this to and from the beach. The sunga is underneath. For sure.

You cant get more "boy from rio" than that.

Blogger Marília said ... (11:54 AM) :

i´m loviiiing it...
stay in brazil forever!!!!
why don´t you come to São Paulo???

Blogger luis_andres said ... (11:56 AM) :

i must to go to rio! stylish people and dogs as well...it has to be a nice place

Blogger TEXTSTYLES said ... (12:07 PM) :

the girls is gorgeous
she what i think of when i think rio

Blogger Olviya said ... (12:16 PM) :

so so quite shoes for dog!

Blogger dwashington314@gmail.com said ... (12:22 PM) :

I just want to give the boy a sandwich.

He's Target (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I do understand why you took the pic you lech!

LOL!

I would have too! Did you get his #?

Blogger Paris said ... (1:00 PM) :

I'm with you misterparticular - its the marriage of clothing and setting that stands out in these shots.

I've only ever seen dogs wearing shoes like that when it is cold (prevents them from cutting their feet on ice). Maybe it works for heat too?

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:08 PM) :

The flawless hair, blowing in the breeze.
The pose - a professional model?
The shoes! How functional and stylish at the same time.
The accessories - those must be the must have accessories of Rio.
This pooch should start it's own line.

lol

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 PM) :

OMG let me konw that guy!

Obviously in these shots people portraited stand out more than settings and clothing...

Oh, I don't like animals dressed up, so I hope it is for whether conditions or other practical reasons that it wears "shoes" or whatever.

Sorry for my english. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:50 PM) :

blame it on rio! my hotness!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:10 PM) :

I so want to move to Rio!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:10 PM) :

To Kevin Gotkin at 11:13am ("By photographing a man's bare chest, you are reverting back to the abominable American mindset and perpetuating a culture of body image-obsessed people."), I'd just say that Americans do not hold the monopoly on the culture of body-obsessed people! As these photos show, it's alive and well in other cultures, too. How you choose to groom and care for yourself is part of your sartorial outlook, I think. And these people are lovely! Stephanie

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:14 PM) :

That girl go to beach. So cool and simple.
This is the real Rio style.
Nobody dress up there.
Just a casual chothes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 PM) :

Stephanie,

I'm wondering where you think body-image culture comes from if not America. A good friend of mine pioneered research in east Asian countries while at Harvard about body image and what he found is that their imperviousness to body image anxieties perfectly parallels their imperviousness to American consumer markets. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you that body image is a part of a person's sartorial persona - CLOTHES are part of a person's sartorial persona and they should be photographed and treasures here!

Blogger alan said ... (11:45 PM) :

I am so excited for doggy Sartorialist. Pups are so stylish nowadays.

It's sad that I'm not even being sarcastic.

Blogger Fashion Is Poison said ... (1:13 AM) :

I really don't understand why people comment anonymously, especially when they're talking crap. This is your blog and it reflects what you see, what you feel, and what you want to share. Not what you think your readers want you to share. If that makes any sense...

I'm very new at blogging but since I discovered your photos I've been hooked. I love seeing things from other people's perspectives and I think you give us that. YOUR perspective. That could mean that they're wearing the most beautiful parka or simply in their shorts and flip flops...it's RIO for goodness sake.

Anyway, I once tried making my dog wear booties to 'protect' his paws so I love the doggie picture.

Your work is very much appreciated :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:59 AM) :

sometimes, abs is fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:36 AM) :

that is so cruel to do that to the poor dog. it must have been walking in agony.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (9:51 AM) :

The people are undeniably great-looking, but the fashion is uninspired. I don't see anything to distinguish Rio from any other beach town.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 PM) :

im speechless at that guy, he is so hot.
incredible!

if only those shorts were shorter, then it would have been perfect.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:29 AM) :

Ha!

I love that comment above: "sometimes abs is fashion."

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (3:35 AM) :

great post, beautiful people (and dogs!)

Blogger Alexa said ... (6:04 AM) :

Meh to the fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 PM) :

Hot guy....mmmm....who cares about fashion...

Blogger Hello said ... (12:37 PM) :

i'm moving to rio.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (2:04 PM) :

i don't really get some people's comments. it's not ALWAYS about being 'fashion'. it's also about the picture itself.

so: nice picture, Scott! They are well taken!!

Blogger Anny Carolina said ... (3:45 PM) :

Beaultiful pics. I'm half brazilian and half peruvian, you should come to Peru too, You will love it. beijossssssssss

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:02 PM) :

Aside from the cute dog and the beautiful beach, I don't see anything special here.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:44 PM) :

that guy is a freaking hoooottie :p

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 PM) :

amazing photos as usual! yes yes come to Oz!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:17 PM) :

"There is nothing creative about a good body."... i think that there is creativity in how you want your body to be... all us lucky rich healthy people can choose how we wanna be image-wise and style doesn't just exude from the clothes we wear (or your body alone either-i'm not saying that P:!) But you know, the woman, the dog and the dude are all making choices about their bodies to make a style statement... alright, maybe not the doggy (although I picture it all diva-style in the morning, rummaging through thousands of pairs of shoes)

Great photos !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:39 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:14 AM) :
