I like him sporting a beard. but the shawl going in and out, hmmm don't feel that...

Blogger Haiku runner said ... (9:05 AM) :

I like the cigar smoke... and the outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:29 AM) :

Love the glasses in the pocket. The cigar is nasty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:29 AM) :

Jacket fits him beautifully. I like the color, too. Does the cut of the pants presage an imminent baggy period in the world of men's fashion?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:30 AM) :

per-fect shot!!!

Blogger the quarter rat said ... (9:36 AM) :

I want to be cool like him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:37 AM) :

SMILE!

Blogger Miguel said ... (9:40 AM) :

He has been photograped by you before, hasn't he? I love the scarf and what is that hanging from his jacket pocket??? Is it a pocket watch? I also wonder what are those prints in his tie??? Interesting...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

Hi is uber FABULOUS!!!
Wow! The look on his face to the scarf just casually tucked under the jacket...
Lovely!

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (9:52 AM) :

I like it, nice combinations, and those linen scarves (I believe that's what is is) are great for this time of year.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:58 AM) :

Gotta love the Maison Martin Margiela suit. I love the grey scarf as well but I'm not sold 100% on the tie choice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:13 AM) :

this is crazy beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:15 AM) :

That is EXACTLY how I wanna look in that age.. Love it, and love the attitude with the cigar smoke and icy look and great cut too!

Blogger Andy said ... (10:15 AM) :

What are those pins doing in his lapel? Very subtle. Also, what accessory is hanging out of his coat pocket?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:16 AM) :

what a nice look! love the smoke floating around him

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:17 AM) :

I love the look. Classic tie, classy shirt, nicely fitted jacket, and a good color for the scarf to go with all. Very masculine, very mature.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 AM) :

spectacular...definitely sets a mood. there's so much emotion going on...offset with the charm of topstitching at the lapel and gold chain dangling outside his pocket...he seems to be in his own world...a bit of sadness in his eyes. and i love the lay of the scarf. thank you sart!

Blogger Lorenzo Sodi - Andrea Vitali Rosati said ... (10:24 AM) :

this is florence right?

Blogger Petulia said ... (10:25 AM) :

Very Italian ..in fact, he could be my dad. Same suit, same colors. Nice shot.

Blogger Ivy Lane said ... (10:26 AM) :

Face good, scarf bad, suit good, beard bad!

Scarf looks like it is stuffed in the jacket...

Blogger Simone Rene said ... (10:26 AM) :

perfect...sigh...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM) :

At first I liked the picture, but upon closer inspection, I think there's too much going on to be sartorially inspiring.

On the other hand, it's a damned practical look, and if your point isn't to have sartorial impact, then this gent has clearly achieved the "mix-and-match but not too perfectly" ideal!

Overall, I wish I could look this good!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:48 AM) :

What an intriguing photo. not just the smoke in the sunlight but the distinctive cut of the suit, his scarf, the chain from his breast pocket - what is it? - and those stitches on his lapel. All kind of mysterious. I admire the sensitivity you show in choosing this subject.

Blogger Barbara said ... (10:53 AM) :

Ah, European men.........you can tell a lot about this man by his appearance - most of it rather good.

Blogger John B Pritchett said ... (10:54 AM) :

Great look! Reminds me of me except I now need that suit. I've been trying to figure out a casual but with tie look and this is it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 AM) :

This is a fantastic look. What is hanging from his breast pocket is the temple of a pair of glasses made by Lunor (which is incidentally a wonderful maker of vintage-inspired eyewear and my personal favorite). The scarf is great because it is not too studied. A mix of elegance and not appearing to try to hard. But most important: masculine, and not dandy-ish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 AM) :

wow, simone is sexy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 AM) :

Good look, but am unsure why he has his top button fastened. Yep it raises his waist, but jackets aren't cut that way.

As a day time indulgence his chosen ring size is just about OK, but doesn't befit the swagger.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:36 AM) :

There needs to be more outfits like this on here and a lot less like safari guy in the picture further down.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:39 AM) :

too much going on. the cigar is the only accessory necessary. keep it simple.

Blogger Missy said ... (11:46 AM) :

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... whatta man!

Blogger junglesiren said ... (11:54 AM) :

You've shot him before and I loved him then too. Ultra handsome and masculine and stylish and making it look effortless.

I tool like to wear my scarves like this under blazers, peaking out below.

Blogger May Kasahara said ... (11:57 AM) :

ooooh - good beard.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:12 PM) :

Very professorial pimp. Love it.

Blogger Stephen Perry said ... (12:15 PM) :

I hate to be the puritan American, but the idea of those elegant clothes, obviously finely made from top-quality materials, being bathed in cigar smoke is a persistent turn-off and negates a lot of the impact.

Blogger green lantern said ... (12:40 PM) :

This is perfection! Perfection to me is his meticulously tailored suit, perfectly weighted scarf, not overly coiffed hair, uncolored beard, necessary glasses and cigar fetish all working together to be who he really is! He's got my vote.

Blogger ADwight said ... (12:41 PM) :

classy classy classy kewl.

Blogger mette said ... (12:50 PM) :

When I enlarged the pic.,I was surprised that his face looks younger than from a distance. It´s the grey and white on his beard that makes him look much older.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:53 PM) :

I love the shooting and, of course, his look...classic but always up to date...beautiful suit, in fact...and the scarf looks great
X

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 PM) :

I don't think that is cigar smoke coming from his lips. I think it is frost. Clearly he exhales coolness.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:00 PM) :

I'd love to know where I could get a scarf like that, either online or London, thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 PM) :

Yes, this an elegant man. Great look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 PM) :

Aaaah, that he can just let his jacket get pulled back by his arm so nonchalantly... gutsy.

The colours are what really work here though: the blue with his skin and hair, the grey with his beard and back to the blue, the red and gold perfect complements... bravo!

Blogger Brett Johnson said ... (1:48 PM) :

shiii*
dude's great

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 PM) :

The clothes are fine, I guess, although it's just another suit to me. What ruins the whole thing for me is that horrid moustache. A proper man's beard and moustache should have at least a hint of wildness and freedom about them. This is just too neat. Bah!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:19 PM) :

I lived in Italia for a few years.
I know the habits good and bad. But do you need to post so many photographs of people smoking?!
Your reinforcing the culture of cool and it's dependence on nicotine.

Blogger The Khaki Crusader said ... (2:21 PM) :

Best photo in a while

Blogger reverend dick said ... (2:29 PM) :

wow, that suit fits him well.
At first glance, with the smoke and all, I thought he had his scarf between his teeth. Funny shot.

Blogger John-Bryan Hopkins said ... (2:43 PM) :

CLASSY GUY

TOO BAD HE'S SMOKING.....

Blogger Renata Valois said ... (2:50 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:26 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:44 PM) :

just SO great...
that movement!!
and he's SO cool.

yes, and for sure, the smoke...
i'd really love to be the photographer of that picture.. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:04 PM) :

Clothes elegant, beard disgusting.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 PM) :

Perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:08 PM) :

Yes Dude! I am in my thirties and love dressing up and learning from "Godfathers"...

Here is an example of what I would like to be in at age. Pure quality, except that I do not smoke and do not intend to.

But a very inspiring Dude! THX

Blogger stylefather said ... (4:14 PM) :

In responce to anonymous at 9:29am-baggy is already back this season for those on though now. I however think it just looks scruffy unless it is done well. Superb look-effortless.

Blogger Nick Bograd said ... (4:50 PM) :

Great picture his hair is really looks great a little messy. Also the scarf really gives his suit a touch of fall.

Blogger Jonathan said ... (4:59 PM) :

Very cool. I'm feeling the blues and grays, even the gray smoke and gray beard. It's all good.

Just the right spot of color with the tie. Subtle.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:15 PM) :

My husband doesn't know that when I pick out outfits for him, I'll use this blog as inspiration. And this is goin' on the list.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:35 PM) :

Cool. Sexy. Confident.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

PURE unadulterated Cheese... LOL at this outfit...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:16 PM) :

Love the swagger he excudes. He really pulls it off ad the suits fit him well. This is my inspiration for what I shall look like when I get older.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:14 AM) :

Yes, he is very confident. The look works for him. The beards cool too. - Zoé

Blogger Dominica said ... (1:56 AM) :

That's one GREAT shot !
Wow !
I adore his scarf and the way he has buttoned it in his jacket...The suit looks wonderful on him and just look at those extra's : red tie, a peek of his (sun)glasses and brown shoes ...

Blogger HL said ... (2:27 AM) :

fantastic style... cigar looks like a toscano.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:43 AM) :

check out that haze of smoke

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 AM) :

Fashion made in Brusseles ???
See you soon.

Blogger Allen - East Hampton said ... (10:45 AM) :

simply smashing. just enough to show he knows what he's doing. excellent shot

Blogger Jenn said ... (12:14 PM) :

I enlarged the pic to see all the details that everyone is talking about... ;) I like the look in his eye. It makes you wonder what he is thinking about. I think the tie shows warmth and compassion and the outfit shows culture and dignity. I like everything but his mustache. It is to thin! Great pic and handsome man to boot!

Blogger stephced said ... (12:27 PM) :

oh wow, sart! you've got quite a talent in photography.
This is a wonderful photo.

Blogger T said ... (1:14 PM) :

That Cigar makes him look like a BOSS, it completes the outfit. very nice

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:12 PM) :

I just love the clear shot of the cigar smoke streaming from his lips and then circling around him as he walks. Mmmmm I can almost smell it...

Dashing.

Blogger Missy said ... (9:20 PM) :

I like the look in his eye, too, Jennylu!

Blogger andrea.at.the.blue.door said ... (10:05 PM) :

The suit makes me want to come back in my next life as a tailor - terrific cut and color. But it's the shawl that maketh the man. People forget that historically men wore shawls, and that shawls were made specifically for them. It's a bold look. And flaunting the white beard - what self-confidence!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:40 PM) :

I had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman while I was in Florence. A gentleman he is indeed, both in dress and in person.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:43 PM) :

Love the colors, fabrics, cut of the coat. Hate the baggy pants. They look early 90s no-vent jacket era. They look sloppy not rakish.

Great light in this pic, Scott. The bright but crisp fall day is my favorite.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 AM) :

If he had wool felt hat I'd almost mistake him for a laborer. His suit color reminds me of the smocks they (used to?) wear in Spain.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:20 AM) :

I thing it's OK, but there's something like too much a little glossy. It would be interesting in this case (and the one of last week, Castiglioni) to see the bottom of the trousers and shoes.
Let's see how long they are, if they have the "risvolto", if they classic or just "wannabe".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 AM) :

Quelle allure !!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:53 PM) :

I love the rough elegance of this look. So beautiful.

Blogger UESman said ... (10:21 PM) :

GODDAMMIT I can't wait to grow a goatee like that. Love the look and yes, the cigar is very fitting (even though I don't believe in smoking).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:46 AM) :

It looks lik his wearing the same brown shoes from the previous photo you took of him. Did you cut them out on purpose? And is it only me, or does his pants come up realy high?
As for the pins, maybe he works in fashion?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 AM) :

aaw! definitly one of my favourite pictures of yours!

Blogger Gina said ... (7:13 AM) :

Love how that scarf is entwined with the coat as he puts his hand in the pocket.

Blogger Miss Urbanita said ... (7:32 AM) :

Fantastic...but I hate tobacco!

Blogger Olviya said ... (11:26 AM) :

i like the way his scarf is moving...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 PM) :

I would have loved to see what kind of shoes he was wearing with that, looks great!

Blogger Rakel said ... (6:18 PM) :

handsom and sooo old!:-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:23 PM) :

This guy has IT. Everybody is being so Puritan about the cigar. It completes the look, it's him, and it's a major turn-on for some of us.

Blogger daltonmc said ... (10:00 PM) :

To quote the Jay Z song, "What more can I say?"

Blogger londondog said ... (9:09 AM) :

Lovely shot, almost whimsical... The shot catching him in the movement and the way he layered his scarf just come together in perfect serendipity..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:53 AM) :

Nice pic, I don't understand why so many people criticize the cigar.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 AM) :

I love this picture, The cigar smoke give it an aura of mystery!

Blogger mademoiselleb said ... (11:53 AM) :

THIS is a man ! :)

Blogger bccmiller said ... (8:20 PM) :

A perfect antidote to the parade of twee that precedes it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 PM) :

So effortlessly elegant. The style is "his" and doesn't pander to the au currant demands of what is correct. Cigar? Who cares?

Anonymous james arthur tancred said ... (10:12 AM) :

very stylish, well made suit, not too tight, with a large and flamboyant plain coloured scarf. The red spotted tie over a crisp white shirt is a nice subtle touch.
