woah. she needs to be in the movies. i don't know why, but she just does.

loving her layers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:43 AM) :

Flawless layering and haircut, I am sure she layers all year long

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 AM) :

cooooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 AM) :

Love this! Casual taste and balance. Love how the black does not overpower her pale skin because its broken up by the soft grey and french blue in her jacket. It's layering at its best! And not a scrap of make up. Beautiful!

Blogger MAJoR said ... (8:53 AM) :

Its images like these that make me want to pack my bags for Paris and never look back! Again another great shot that juxtaposes the slim and tailored (pant) with oversized and slouchy (cardigan), I smell a trend forming :-) Thanx sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:54 AM) :

an elegant girl

Blogger maggie_hogan said ... (8:58 AM) :

Like your purple and black girl from a few days ago, this lady once again demonstrates how wonderful it looks to pair one garment in a bold color with other muted pieces. Great layering... I wish I could see the neckline of the innermost shirt better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:59 AM) :

Stunning chic. What is this gorgeous color that she wears?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:02 AM) :

The clothing is nice. The cheekbones are fabulous.
If she's not a model, then I'm a monkey's uncle.
I love that she looks so great without a touch of makeup.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:02 AM) :

this is the japanese model ai tominga---- she looks great as always. love the see though blk toppeekingout w/ the androgynous sweater and jacket.

Blogger miss sophie said ... (9:10 AM) :

love this! the perfect palette of colors for fall.

Blogger beths said ... (9:14 AM) :

She's a lovely person, and the teal blue flatters her, but am I the only one who sees the jacket and sweater as ill-fitting as opposed to slouchy? Jacket's shoulders and sweater's belly undermine the flattering fit of the under layers (blouse and slacks).

Blogger . . . said ... (9:19 AM) :

One word come to mind: fierce.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:22 AM) :

This is glamor. I hate using the words "perfect" and "flawless" to describe someone's style. This is flawless. And I don't hate saying it.

Blogger zozo said ... (9:26 AM) :

the series of triangles formed by her haircut, her chin, her black blouse and grey cardigan echo each other and make a perfect geometric composition. she has a beautiful face with no make-up. she is chic and cool.

Blogger Michelle said ... (9:28 AM) :

wow! she is stunning!

Blogger John-Bryan Hopkins said ... (9:31 AM) :

She looks sexy

I like how the layers work.

The hair frames her face so well.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (9:34 AM) :

The lace provides an unexpected contrast to the coat, scarf and sweater and its' shape works well compositionally with those around it. I wasn't keen on the piece itself at first but it functions well in this context so okay. The colors are great- a definite "Yea" in that department.

Blogger thwany said ... (9:39 AM) :

great haircut.

Blogger ERman said ... (10:05 AM) :

Ai Tominaga? Japanese model.

Blogger LIO said ... (10:16 AM) :

Effortless color combination. So casual and yet so flawless. I am verrrry interested in the detail on her sleeves. I believe I see some small ties at the elbow. Sweet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 AM) :

strike a pose....

Adjyg

Blogger Kelly said ... (10:17 AM) :

Simply wow ... out of every picture of yours I have ever looked at, for some reason this one might just be my all-time favorite. Perhaps because I'm half-Asian and find her absolutely positively striking. But she is also divinely dressed - that peacock blue truly illuminates her. She looks like modern day royalty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 AM) :

i love ai tominaga...i saw her at a casting once..can't believe she had a baby and still looks fab. love her hair cut.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:35 AM) :

wait, you all didn't recognize her as a top model!? of course she is beautiful and has great style!! shame shame on you if you didn't ; ) just kidding but check out her work, ai tominaga.

ive never seen her with such a short, chic haircut but of course her face can pull it off. i actually dont really like the mix of black and gray but each individual piece and color is lovely and she still wears it all well. just so cool and cas.

Blogger southerngentinL.A. said ... (10:39 AM) :

good lord!!!!!!!!!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:46 AM) :

*breathless*

Blogger tal said ... (10:58 AM) :

Love the lace peeking out! She's gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 AM) :

All I see is her face. But I think that's a good thing.

Blogger Loulou said ... (11:17 AM) :

so i determined it is definitely her. http://www.tominagaai.net/ is her website. evidently she is astylist as well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 AM) :

wow. my jaw just dropped. stunning...

Blogger kOoKy pLuM said ... (11:26 AM) :

ah ai tominaga...yeah her face is gorgeous.. the clothes are jsut not important...lol...

Blogger PunkiMeowMeow said ... (11:35 AM) :

Ai Tominaga is just gorgeous! She makes anything look fabulous. Love her!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:37 AM) :

beautiful! love the pants, the scarf and the haircut!! :)

Blogger Irene said ... (11:42 AM) :

Les angles de ce visage...et les yeux! Sa perfection me fait presque peur. Fascinante.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 AM) :

One of my favorite models, Ai Tominaga! She's so tres chic and her bone structure is fierce!

Blogger aviewaskew said ... (11:44 AM) :

great photo sart...mesmeziring...she belongs in a bond film.

Blogger S (formerly of Modern-Guilt) said ... (12:01 PM) :

Lovely photo.

Blogger Dominica said ... (12:04 PM) :

This is the most wonderful picture I've seen here..., what is this with Asian people ; they always look so mysteriously cool...If you look at this pic closely, you get this androgen kinda feeling...
Love the blue of the jacket ...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 PM) :

i think she looks great with this new hairstyle compared to her long locks before. like the interesting details(ribbon) on the jacket's elbow. that's something i haven't seen before!

Blogger cami falcão said ... (12:18 PM) :

great style and awesome haircut.

Blogger Miguel said ... (12:19 PM) :

Now that is a pose with personality... I love this one. And, by the way, beautifull face too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 PM) :

Hi Sart,

This blog is starting to become 'spotting the fashion celebrity'. I thought it originally intended to depict anonymous cool people in the street, but lately, most of them seem to be working in the industry in some way or another. They certainly look great, but I think it is somehow biased...

Regards

Blogger The Spicers said ... (12:21 PM) :

Ai is so gorgeous she could wear anything, but I love the black lace layered under the grey cotton cardigan and topped by that vivid blue jacket. Masterful!

Blogger sadia said ... (12:22 PM) :

brilliant.

Blogger Richie Designs said ... (12:24 PM) :

damn, she gives good face

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 PM) :

I agree with dan in richmond, the lace contrasts with the other solidly coloured items. In fact it jars a little, so much so that my eye is drawn away from her face every time, which is quite an achievement.

I'm splitting hairs... she looks great.

Blogger Hannah Stephenson said ... (12:57 PM) :

That hair! Gorgeous!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:59 PM) :

oh wow.

picture. perfect. face

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 PM) :

coooooool and beauty!!!
I want to steal her Fashion!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 PM) :

What a beauty!

Blogger Hadley Makes said ... (1:58 PM) :

The sheer blouse is so beautiful, as is her hair. I'd definitely use the word "cool" to describe her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:58 PM) :

I think this is a great example of the person dressing and styling herself to highlight her strengths.

Magnificent, a good looking woman takes a leap to perfectly exquisite.

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (1:59 PM) :

This is a great look! I hardly ever think 'how could I do that?' about the pictures in your blog, because I just really couldn't. But this is something I could pull off, and pull off within my budget. Basic pieces, range of colors. We could all do this.

You know, though, it's harder than it looks, huh?

Blogger H. H. said ... (2:31 PM) :

It shouldn't take long to guess her profession is a model...you can see she is so at ease to put on a look and pose in front of the camera. And, she does have make up on, just in a very skillfully casual way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:31 PM) :

Fabulous, love the colors, love the textures, love the shapes, stunning.

Blogger lulu said ... (3:15 PM) :

Ai cut her hair!! I love her. So gorgeous.

Blogger starbahks said ... (3:41 PM) :

The bone structure of her face, the layering, the hair,

she's breathtaking.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:43 PM) :

she is amazing. i love the colour combination!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

I want to marry her

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:13 PM) :

I would lose the grey cardi. Otherwise, it's a great look. I love the color of the jacket.

Blogger Ceci said ... (5:14 PM) :

It´s a great look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:28 PM) :

A very complex look. All about textures and colour of course. Sheer layer next to skin; cashmere low-cut cardi; wast-cut heavier cashmere jacket; light cashmere scarf. Shape is important too - skinny jeans put her top-half on display. The bob, straight cut hair is perfect beyond words. What makes it work though are too elements we can't see - her great body (I'll bet) and her take-no-prisoners spirit.

Colours are classic: blue, black, grey...

Mind you, I'd love to be the guy who makes her laugh so her nose wrinkles...

Ahhhh

Blogger Hanum Jumas said ... (6:15 PM) :

I hate it when people say lose this or the black and gray don't go together or the clothes are ill fitting.
Just accept the fact that she is gorgeous and has great style that you can't pull off.
I think she's lovely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:57 PM) :

Everything about this is beautiful!
The colors really work for her!

Blogger Vanna said ... (6:58 PM) :

Ai looks amazing. A heavy saturated teal is definitely my favorite color for fall right now. I wear it too too much. Also, am loving her hair cut.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (6:59 PM) :

Ai looks absolutely stunning & striking in this picture! Just gorgeous! The colours, the delicate top underneath, the long scarf, just love it!

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (7:03 PM) :

For Anon 12:20

I can actually say that I first saw her from the side on a quiet Paris street in Le Marais. I had no idea who she was until I stopped her to take her photo. I feel very comfortable in how this happened.

As for people in the business, well I started this site during fashion Week in NYC three years ago. I will continue to shoot at the show but I will always shoot everyday people on the street also - that is the combination I like most

Ai Tominaga? Did she really cut her hair??

Blogger redrain said ... (7:58 PM) :

i love her style!! the colors, the layers... great!

Blogger hakkamui said ... (8:20 PM) :

This is a wonderful pictur.

The lady and her dressing are both magnificent!

I enjoy most your pics of everyday people as they are real, real real.

It inspires people to dress up. Wish you will do more street people than models!

Well done!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:30 PM) :

shes a japanese super model!

Blogger Urja Dave said ... (8:32 PM) :

I love the color combo and the sheer black blouse peeking through--so subtly sexy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:34 PM) :

Well said Mr Sart! Combinations + Layers are the way to go. Keep up that brilliant eye and beautiful pictures.

Blogger Shaynuh said ... (9:48 PM) :

OMG! She looks so cutting edge! :)

Blogger AlixRose said ... (10:23 PM) :

I love how she just has an effortless cool stance about her even with all those layers. Stunning!

Blogger Ridonkulus said ... (11:03 PM) :

she is one hot mommy! her son looked adorable in last year's holiday Gap ad. she looks so cool with short hair (she had waist length in the Gap ad). i love blue and gray. i have seen some coats in this color that everday people can afford. this look is achievable for civilians!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 PM) :

Blogger Thysz said ... (1:21 AM) :

She.cut.her.hair. Whoever said that's nobody's perfect has not seen Ai Tominaga. That's it and i'm booking an afternoon with my hairstylist.

@sart: I fully support you taking pictures of "famous" people. this is a blog about street style and there are a lot of known and recognisable faces out there that dress "naturally" with such originality and creativity, exactly what this blog celebrates. As always, kudos!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:22 AM) :

love it! love it! love it!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:56 AM) :

I would like to point out that this woman doesn't appear to be wearing a stitch of makeup. And yet she still looks as if she could stop traffic.

There's a point where paint (and, likewise, fabric) falls short, and genetics and personality play their role.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 AM) :

It's gotta be the hair!!!

-VD-

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:24 AM) :

I love this. Definitely my kind of outfit, with a number of things taken here and there and a great look altogether. And I don't know if this is a seasonal craving but I am really getting into jackets right now and this one, this lovely, blue one takes the cake !

Blogger hannah-rose said ... (3:44 AM) :

what an inspiration.
i wish i was in paris right now!

Blogger Miss Urbanita said ... (4:15 AM) :

The elegance touch? her haircut!

Blogger Bluetramontana Style said ... (5:09 AM) :

Perfect!

Blogger Fredette said ... (5:27 AM) :

Elle est connue cette japonaise !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:37 AM) :

I adore (and often practice myself) the combination of shick textures with casual ones: the black lace and cotton cardigan with any colourful accessorise is just perfect...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:14 AM) :

I like the ensemble very much, it makes me think of of Phi Fall 08, adapted to the street. Surely the news here is as much Ms. Tominaga's talent as a stylist as it is her impact as a model—for example in Martin Grant's Spring 09 show. She may be an icon but she has earned it, she's not just "a celebrity."

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:08 AM) :

This photo is fabulous - the colors, the lace, the cuts, etc.

But a poster above is right.. lately your pics have featured a lot of models/famous people. While I do agree that what they wear can inspire us, I also hope you can take more pictures of ordinary people on the streets with great style when you get the chance!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:34 AM) :

color combo good. adding the grey to the black and gorgeous blue (my favorite color right now - color of my powder room, ceiling included) makes it. i'm thinking that the whole jewel toned fall trend is beautiful especially when toned down by a brown or grey. sjp is doing that trend well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 AM) :

she is a famous japanese model!!

sooooooooooo pretty!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 AM) :

She is, of course, stunning. That is her business and she knows how to look a camera in the lens and project thru to the viewer. Apparently she is also a woman of taste who has the talent to work with color in clothing as an artist might. But what made me stop in my tracks was the frame around her-the disappearing buildings, there but fading away and the pavement beneath her feet which is reinforces the grey baggy sweater underneath. The meta message seems to be that some of us are lucky enough to find our place in the world which suits us like a setting sets off a gem.

The shot is centered up but her one leg at the diagonal gives the photo motion. A nice little exercise in composition and tone for an art class.

Later in the day, she probably spilled her tea in a carry cup while trying to schlep the baby baggage and that handbag. But for this moment she was in control...and the world and she were both beautiful.

Congratulations, Scott.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:05 PM) :

Two things: 1) the hair is perfect. I really like the volume on one side and the length cups her face beautifully.
2) Lace is big this year; I don't like lace. But the small amount gives a nice twist to the other textures and mood. I might have to consider the stuff after all.

Blogger nyc/caribbean ragazza said ... (1:24 PM) :

I LOVE her haircut.

I wish I would wear layers like that. I would look crazy, so I don't.

Blogger Olviya said ... (2:40 PM) :

Blogger Ms. Katee/e-polishblog said ... (6:37 PM) :

LOVE her hair. WOW.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 PM) :

Ai Tominaga looks great! The photo is lovely and evocative. This is one of the rare photos on the site that showcases the style of a fashion insider that is accessible to the average person!

One can look at this photo and see a beautiful model, skillful layering and deft use of color--and not feel alienated. (That blue is one of my favorite colors for clothing these last couple years.)

This is one photo I can't complain about! I'd love to see more in the same spirit :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:23 PM) :
