On the Street....Jeans & Jacket (part 1), NYC

Herringbone seems tailor-made for denim.

I love when things look this good and you can see how simple it is. Jeans and a jacket that fits.

I love patterns like herringbone, check, and houndstooth. I wish someone would put together a nice HowTo for mixing the patterns without looking overworked.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:42 AM) :

This look is beautiful! It's subtle, casual yet elegant, and the bag is serious hotness!

Blogger John-Bryan Hopkins said ... (8:44 AM) :

Love it.

The bag, this fit, wonderful

The skinny tie is my favorite thing.

great color for him and the bag even better.

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (8:48 AM) :

Of course herringbone looks great with denim! As does tweed too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 AM) :

great look. from the herringbone/denim combo to the handkerchief to the tie clip -- it all works so well. i want that bag, too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 AM) :

WOW. the fitting of the jacket ist fantastic !!!
thats really a masterpiece of art.

Blogger kerfuffler said ... (9:02 AM) :

Gorgeous jacket----cut and fabric!
Maintaining tight color coordination between the tie, the jacket and the tote allows the extra degree of freedom in pairing this ensemble with jeans. Nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

Ho nice to see a human being who doesn't look like he should be thrown out with the rubbish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

Is that a woman's bag? Arrrrg

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 AM) :

agreed.
inspirational!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 AM) :

Great jacket! Love the attention to detail and the casualness of his outfit (unbuttoned oxford collar). I am jealous, I wish it was my outfit!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:31 AM) :

I'll be frank: I don't like the bag. But everything else is stunning. I especially like how the tie complements the jacket

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:38 AM) :

Subtel, sexy and elegant..amazing photo in fact!

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (9:41 AM) :

Hey Anonymous -

That's not a woman's bag, it's a human's bag. I want to know where to buy it.

Sart -

This guy is as crisp as they come, while still looking casual. I love the equestrian-looking jacket. The angled pockets - and especially the inclusion of a ticket pocket - really set it off.

I might do this jacket with a turtleneck, or a open spread collar shirt with an ascot or a scarf in a small paisley or a foulard. Maybe splash on a little Acqua di Parma (or Aqua Velva), then go to L'Express or La Goulue, and chill.

This is a timeless look.

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (9:45 AM) :

Nice outfit which somehow makes me think country more than city. The herringbone and denim is a good combination. I like the simple palette with its' touches of white white- beautiful handkerchief. What's the tie made of? It almost looks like suede. The width and texture of it work well with the style and proportions of the jacket even though it would not be my favorite under other circumstances. I have to finally say I really dislike these huge bags especially when they completely dominate a look, as they often do. It's not so bad here with the mix of textures but he'd still look better without it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:00 AM) :

It's Ralph Lauren head to toe.
Bravo Stephen!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (10:14 AM) :

What a well-fitted jacket! He looks great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM) :

A classic that's always in good taste.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 AM) :

freaking perfect.

Blogger Nick Bograd said ... (10:43 AM) :

The jacket is a great statement for the fall in NYC a little heavier weight. Also I like his bag, moving away from the messenger bag and saving his jacket shouolders.

Blogger PunkiMeowMeow said ... (10:45 AM) :

I like the Mad Men vibe of his attire. The color of the bag coordinates well with his tie. Too bad the silhouette of his bag wasn't more masculine.

Blogger Rodrigo said ... (10:53 AM) :

That bag looks interesting. I have been looking for a new laptop bag, and have been wondering if a tote like bag can be masculine and comfortable?

Blogger Gentleman Farmer said ... (11:00 AM) :

Fantastic, the fit of the jeans is compliments the profile of the sports coat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

I love the jacket, tie, glasses, pocket square, jeans...everything is so good....EXCEPT THE BAG.
Instantly the look moves from sexy Dad to fashion nerd.

Maybe it's a pet peeve but it feels like now that women have got over the tent-sized handbag, men have decided it's their turn. Who needs a precious leather bag this size? - I'm guessing he's not a chic plumber.

Blogger MAJoR said ... (11:30 AM) :

Ja'dore!!!! tailored perfection!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:52 AM) :

It rare to see such herringbone with denim combination in nyc..good!!!!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:54 AM) :

Will this work without the tie? -thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:05 PM) :

As mentioned, the coherence of the various browns (all of which match well with the denim hue) brings the outfit together beautifully. The tie is especially nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 PM) :

its an aero bag... and they are great!

www.aerostudios.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:32 PM) :

You can get that bag at AERO on Broome Street in SoHo

Blogger Adam said ... (12:39 PM) :

im really averse to that color. The color of the jacket that is. Love the deep copper sheen of the tie. I do also think the fit is great and the bag is to die for.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (12:48 PM) :

i thought jeans and jacket were a big no-no?

Blogger Dominica said ... (12:59 PM) :

sometimes the clothes do make the man...
(sigh......)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 PM) :

Will someone tell Mr. Herringbone that he's carrying his Mom's tote bag?

Otherwise, good look.

Blogger de Vereaux said ... (1:42 PM) :

The leather tote..HOT. Nice combination. Relaxed dress.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:28 PM) :

Sart,

This is what I'm talking about. Thank you for posting this. This is a true definition of sartorial. Look at the way that jacket fits this gentleman and he is also well groomed with all right accesories to make the outfit work. Sart, you're big time now and you can really influence the dress code with your success. The majority of men do not have the ability to dress themselves and they need guidance and assistance. Keep posting this type of photos and would like to see more Italian Preppy in the near future. Thank you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:38 PM) :

That's quite a different look for Rob Lowe! He still looks good!

Blogger mette said ... (2:54 PM) :

My,he is too good to be true.I like his unshaved face and the haircut. The jacket fits perfectly and the colors ,white and leather mix nicely. Actually everything is almost too perfect. A fine picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:03 PM) :

the jacket YES! the bag, no...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:30 PM) :

the look is very, very smart...love it...shot is like "I wan't to touch the jacket"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:30 PM) :

would love to see the shoes he wore with that. the bag is not my cup of tea but the schoolteacher tote is in vogue these days for gents.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:38 PM) :

beautiful jacket - it just fits so well. love the colour palette and textures. doesn't scream for your attention, but wow, once it's grabbed it all the wonderful little details just keep pulling you in, don't they?

Blogger Allen - East Hampton said ... (4:45 PM) :

Stephen always pulls it together nicely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

Is there a way to type the gesture of licking my lips???? Because He is SCRUMPTIOUS!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:08 PM) :

it only gets better everyone, what you CAN'T see unfortunately is the fabulous equestrian inspired tie bar he was wearing...

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:38 PM) :

this guy is the splitting image of my orthopedic surgeon. whoa.

Blogger Miguel said ... (5:49 PM) :

Nice jacket, lovely tie, owsome bag...

Great look. Nicely fitted jacket, love the tie. The bag? I need one immediately...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:46 PM) :

My G-d this man is beautiful. He looks almost as if he were born dressed this way. A true sartorialist.

Blogger kavitha said ... (11:34 PM) :

Wow, the tie, the glasses and the jacket.. perfecto! Do you have his number? ;)

Blogger andrea.at.the.blue.door said ... (12:19 AM) :

L.L. Bean used to sell a bag very much like that. It was for carrying firewood.

Wicked nice fabric on that jacket, though.

Blogger Laurence John said ... (5:11 AM) :

i like his shirt lapels, but the bag isn't masculine enough for him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 AM) :

he's looking neat! everything fits perfectly! but i would love to see his shoes...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 AM) :

Is there a name for the tab on the left lapel? I bought a similar jacket at a thrift store this week, and it had one too, with a corresponding button hidden under the other lapel. I assume that's for buttoning up in cold weather?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:57 AM) :

The bag is from Aero, Thomas O'Brien's store in Soho, NYC. www.aerostudios.com
It comes in several colors. I have one, and I love it. They offer shipping if you want to call and order one.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:45 PM) :

Woahh..! Please, marry me...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:40 PM) :

i LOVE ticket pockets!!!

Blogger Coffee Black said ... (6:35 PM) :

First thing that comes to mind, Guy Pearce in LA Confidential.

Blogger Olviya said ... (3:52 AM) :

great jacket!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 AM) :

He looks like he is on his way to an archaeology lecture, and I should be calling him Dr Jones.

And that is a gooood thing. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:58 PM) :

another stylish, amazingly talented member of the elite team of talent up at Ralph Lauren.
and such a nice man
deserves all the kudos
he looks this good ever day

Blogger leather girl said ... (3:51 PM) :

I second that.. this really is just another day in his wardrobe, and proof that he is simply a master at mixing the right materials and pieces to create the look that suits his mood and the atmosphere of any given day.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:09 AM) :

evocative of another era, a little bit Gatsby-esque.
and i must admit, i am a sucker for a handsome man in glasses.
the bag is beautiful, but i do find it slightly too similar to a women's tote. perhaps something a little less structured would do the trick, the the color of the leather is absolute perfection.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:01 AM) :

His clothes fit him so well. And love that man bag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 AM) :

Very sharp looking jacket, I like.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 AM) :

i need that jacket, where can i buy it?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:24 AM) :

patrick bateman

Blogger Claire said ... (11:43 PM) :

You know, now that you mention it, herringbone is so tailor-made for denim! I love that observation and I intend to rock tha look. Thanks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:23 PM) :

marry me.

Blogger pve design said ... (6:27 AM) :

what's not to love.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:09 PM) :

Very elegant - but I hope, he carries the bag for someone else ...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 PM) :

I don't like the bag either, but I DO know that it's Thomas O'Brien and can only be purchased at his store (Aero Studios) in Soho.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:26 PM) :

Didn't he used to work for Martha Stewart? How the heck do you get a pocket square to do that? gorgeous look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:23 AM) :

It's so nice to see someone I know on here.. and Stephen has never looked better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 AM) :

He looks good. A little to pressed and tidy for my personal taste however. Trying a bit too hard. I have that tote bag however, (I'm female), and its sort of throwing me off here.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:47 AM) :

he is serrrrrrrrrrrving in this outfit !! serrrrrve!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:09 AM) :

Is this gentleman with the fablous coat wearing black(!)pants? If yes, than forget about it all. An absolute no no,IMHO! The undone button down shirt is cute.
It looks to me as if upstairs has been carefully put together until he blew it with very dark pants.
xavier

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:01 PM) :
