Comments on "On the Street.....Bryant Park, NYC"
I absolutely adore this outfit.
I dont understand why she choose cream colored shoes for this outfit, but I think I get everything else. It will be interesting to read female comments on whether the apron-like dress straps and the cami straps overwhelm the upper half of the look- I believe they do, but cannot imagine this dress worn in any other way, except for a total minimalist way. Love the red belt over navy and her fabric flower collar, is it like a lei? Jorge from W Palm Beach
Superb, clean, quirky, fresh and laid back. I love how the accesories echo each other and the outfit.
sweet face x great taste
The most creative influence of the Hawaiian lei that we've seen in fashion. It works, totally.
MK is the cutest!!! xoxo
Not bad, not bad at all.
Why does she STAND like that, though? Are her shoes uncomfortable?
I love her originality, the layering of the cami, apron dress and necklace. The necklace reminds me of a bangle necklace Dries Van Noten has done for fall, in fact the whole look for me is kind of Dries goes minimalist. She looks charming and elegant.
This look is a really nice take on classic with a twist. In regard to her shoes, well, let's look at the options: Blue (too staid), Red (too 'matchy') White (let's not go there). The cream is great - it gives her a casual, not trying look,(hard to do in heeels) whilst elongating her legs and lending her a retro vibe which compliments the quiky quality of the necklace. Well done.
The only negative for me is her posture. With that super skinny frame, she hardly needs to try to appear smaller, by slouching into a pigeon-toed stance. Stand up - you look great!
What's with the pigeon-toed pose? I see that a lot is ads, is it supposed to be sexy?
love the lei, the belt and the nude shoes, as they let the other elements of the outfit be the stars!
she is very well-dressed! her youthful glow and her delicate frame is accentuated by the pretty dress!!!i love the red belt!
Love the slight playing dressing-up look she's got. Bracelets are a bit cluttered, but it's not a big deal.
The top looks kind of messy -- straighten it out and remove the flowers (which clutter it up) and a correctly-sized belt (one that doesn't stick out like that) and I think you'd have something.
MK Looks great!!!!
It's a cute piece. I like the navy dress (it reminds me of a jumper dress) and the floral necklace to match and the nude pumps (although, id prefer mary janes). It's almost lolita-inspired, very cute! ^^
I love skinny belts they are so sweet
am really excited to see your pictures of bryant park and fashion week! cheers from brazil.
I saw this girl on facehunters pics as well!! she must look pretty...
IHeartNY!! Embodied, I mean.
i love this one, she's like a feminine sailor :)
that girl is also on facehunter today-. strange
I adore the red-white-blue combo. Fantastique!
She really does look so fabulous. I'm loving all the navy that's showing up this season.
all good moseur sarti but why the gant add?
This girl is HOT, whats her number
I hate those dumb belts though, earlier this summer i was hooking up with a girl in a back alley outside the club and she had a belt like that over her dress. it's just a hassle and gets in the way
very nice dress. i love the flovers, which looks like tender necklace...
good shoes - classical, making her dress more bright.
This girl was on Face Hunter today too! Same outfit.
Perfect example of elegance that is attained by a simple but sophisticated silhouette and using just the right colors. It feels completely natural.
Beautiful. . .that is Diane Kruger, right? The only role I can remember her from is Helen in Troy . . .she seems more known as a fashionista rather than as an actress. And she looks amazing here.

like this but...red shoes would have jazzed it up and the white top under...would have gone with a little cap sleeve...
i like the part from the knees up to the waist. her dress is doing something very beautiful to her legs.
i LOVE that little bit of whimsy she added to this simple, but delightful outfit. the little bracelets, the necklace... it's just off-kilter enough for me to adore it!
Wow so this is the new fashion math? No fuss, no muss = gorgeous!
The "lei" necklace is by Lizzie Fortunato.
sweet.
so sweet, love it !
this fillette has style, innate style.
She looks fab! And I love what you do!
Your pictures of all these random and exceedingly stylish people on the street in New York, Paris and etc are so...inspiring, hahaha...
Keep the pictures coming!
I think she looks very fresh. The shoes elongate her legs - we don't notice the shoes, they don't detract from her at all. None of it does.
I really don't get the knock-kneed, pigeon-toed stance so popular these days. Good early childhood nutrition and care are nothing to be ashamed of! It's kind of like making fun of people who weren't so fortunate and insulting to the parents who made sure you didn't actually have knock-knees and pigeon-toes!
Then again, maybe she was tired of standing there in heels.
ooooooooooh, I love it.
Super cute & uniquely chic.
The power of accessories - simple outfit, statement necklace and it works. Lovely.
Love the belt.
i agree with the comment about why nude shoes work- simply most other colors would not! i think the outfit is a perfect mix of casual and cute and the floewr necklace adds the perfect touch to make it not boring
wow, santa maria! i mean, she's stunning. the lei is a very nice touch, especially since it's made out of unorthodox flowers. love the blue on the dress. for some reason, the skinny belt doesn't bother me, though i feel that it should.
Very charming, the colour combination looks wonderful in the warm sunshine and the necklace a whimsy. Tres nice!
she sat behind me at a show last night and i kept glancing at her necklace! gorgeous!
She looks scandinavian.. Probably swedish roots..
i love this look... not too perfect, not too casual. i would wear this anytime!
Why do women stand like they are knockneed and gawky ? It is
disingenuous
but darling looking outfit and girl
she looks laidback and confident at the same time she has that youthful/unexperienced glow. would like the outfit better if she had black heels and no reed belt, it clutters up the outfit.
Love the look sans the necklace. So cute otherwise.
She was featured over on Face Hunter too!
she's lovely and her shoes are great however I think the belt the lei and the bracelets all together do in fact give her a bit of a cluttered feel with such a "light" look... not in a good contrasting way... pretty girl though.
Lovely and Lucky...this lady was hit twice by the sart and face hunter in one day:) so jealous.
xCC
I absolutely adore... ehm - that person ;) I like much! Well, ok, the outfit is also kind of cool, though.
Borat ;)
It's easy to miss the gorgeous composition in this shot! Just look at the background...the trees and sky look like stained glass.
And I love the closed umbrellas on the tables around her...she's got that same look to her, what with the length of her dress and the belt.
Other than a cami, should could wear a long sleeved t-shirt, but that might look a little odd. I've also seen girls wearing those tiny bandeau bras (tops?) under tanks that have this shape. It sometimes works.
And I love her cream shoes.
The necklace makes the outfit. At first I thought it was part of the dress it fits so seamlessly.

I do miss those late summer days in Bryant Park. This is a lovely look.
Lovely! Does anyone know who makes the necklace?
Her shoes are not cream it's yellow. She looked great that day.
All girls should have this simplistic style. very classy.
i love this look -- fresh, young, fun! the "lei" as it has been referred to is actually a Lizzie Fortunato necklace! Go www.lizziefortunatojewels.com to see more -- she's been getting a lot of great press.
um... love it! Want it! Will have it! The silhouette is perfect for her, and yes, she's cute, but it's the color combo here that really does it for me. She's magic.
she's on the nyt website too... http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/08/chics-freaks-weekend-warriors/
Unnecessary neck adornment. It looks like shower poufs cut up. Love the navy dress and belt but the singlet underneath meh...either a strapless top or singlet with narrower straps would have looked better. A nice silk rib or really sheer jersey.
I'd like to see from another angle but from here she seems to be wearing an apron....which is NAGL.
great. wish i could throw on a dress. everyone says it's so easy. i look ridiculous. love her bracelets layered and her neckline ruffled with everything else simple, including the shoes. great one!
elegant, chic , beatiful !

same girl as the facehunter today
you two have a similar eye
I´m in love! With this picture...
She almost looks like a waitress with those tables and chairs in the background, albeit, a charming and endearing one.
I think her posture, facial expression and pigeon-toed stance goes with her outfit and background--I think it all helps create that innocent, shy and endearing quality. Her attitude won't say "bashfully endearing" if she stood tall and proud with a big smile.
And yes, nude heels help elongate legs--that's actually a reason why many on-stage dancers opt for nude-colored shoes in performances.
I agree that the belt is not sized right. I would lose the lei.
Amazing outfit!
Good choice of shoes. Here's my take on the pigeon-toed stances...a) Yes, they allude to gawky adolescents b) They can visually elongate limbs and add interest--see compositions where angles add interest to straight lines, and c) Often shows off footwear better.
love the thin red belt
I really enjoy your blog. It's definitely a highlight for me!
If I'm not mistaken, the belt is from Madewell.
;]
Face Hunter shot the same girl. Your shot is so much better. And I think it's what the fabrics are and how they fall crisply against eachother and her that makes it all so brilliant.
This lady's face is the sweetest part of the whole picture.
she's the fashion editor at teen vogue.. seems like the magazines in good hands for the fashion forward youth.
looks pretty good on her
she's gorgeous. i love the navy blue. one of my favorite colors. and it all seems so effortless. the colors are magnificent put together with the reds, pinks, blue, and the pale purple or the lei. i wonder if it was apart of the apron-like dress or a seperate.
i wish she wasnt wearing that belt.
not that its hideous, it just lets down an otherwise perfect look.
this exact same girl was on facehunter!!!!
love the minimalist look though the shoes are coming up a creamy yellow on my computer which would also be a great choice. The simplicity of the belt with the choice of the flowery necklace complement each other quite nicely. i would definitely wear that!
That's funny. The Facehunter also thought her adorable. And I think you're both right.
my company computer is blocking out websites. i'm so glad your website isnt blocked!
I absolutely love this look! Especially the shoes are the cherry on the cake! And it doesn´t look too "I want to be stylish", just as if she took "something" out of the closet!
Why does she stand like this, why doesn't she pose like that.... for this is a blog about people as they are, not a ballet class. And she is soooo lovely!
Hi Scott,
I just moved back to the US after living in Asia for 5 years. I've been reading your blog for some time now and always joked with my friends that I would see "The Sartorialist" once I moved to New York.
Well, I stepped out of my evening class at Parsons and low and behold I spotted you on 16th and 5th! Wanted to say hello via the blog because I didn't want to interrupt your conversation then!
~Parsons student
i love this outfit. very stylish and classy. and my fave shade of blue!
I think this is an appealing outfit because its so chic, yet understandable. Very put together, but not too predictable. Great choice for a shot.
the dress is simple and effective which makes it really sexy!
She's fantastic! Love the lei necklace with the pop of red in the skinny belt. And the nude shoes are perfect.
Wow, she was here, facehunter and then nytimes picked that up: http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/chics-freaks/
The girl either has good PR, has friends in the right places, or was in the right place at the right time. :-)
This is one of my favourite shots ever! Love the nature way of this outfit saying this girl has got a great sence of style...
she works at Teen Vogue, of course she's cute!
She's so fresh and pretty it's hard to care about the outfit! But LOVE that necklace and itsy belt! All a bit indie - which I like with the smart frock. t.x
she is fabulous, love the outfit and very pretty girl. only thing is she is too too skinny, can't notice it as much in this photo but the one on face hunter you can see her arms and they look scary thin
but the outfit is great!
I am a very stylish girl:)
I think she`s amaizing, the dress, the belt are so gentle...
I love the use of the solid bold colors on a simply chic dress.
I think she's very pretty. The cloth she's wearing are not so special, but for me - the belt and the shoes just turn the look to great! The shoes give length to her legs and the belt gives color, waist line and sets in place her rather un-shaped dress.
Polina
This girl makes it look easy, which is hard. She's very graceful, it seems.
effortlessy chic afternoon outfit. Bring it on gal
She's so beautiful, in my opinion.
I love her necklace...
She's beautiful.
I love skinny belts it completes an outfit especially one that is dark or a solid color such as a black dress would go with a bright colored skinny belt and shoes matching the belt possibly.
I love her style. I think she did a great job with her outfit.
Cheers,
Dianne
Amazingly Beautiful!
KT
this photo is so much better than the shot of her on facehunter. i actually think that the lei is a bit of a genius, but the posture is definitely not.
This outfit is perfection, casual yet elegant and simple with a touch of funky. Of course it helps to be gorgeous, tall and slim...Love it!
Love this dress-and would love to know who makes it!! This girl looks adorable. Love the outfit! Great style!
xo
She has a very sunny disposition. Wish I could look that good in that beautiful dress.
Very Cute girl... But I think shoes don't match with outfit...
it isn't a lei--it's actually a necklace from lizzie fortunato jewels...check it out online! she also did some stunning paper crane pieces for the VPL velocity spring 09 show this past week.
little miss sunshine! she's all perfection in my opinion... absolutely nothing is wrong, and her figure is of course one that could pull off anything, not only this perfect match! <3
I think the shoes matches some beige flowers I see on the necklace, since is a very big piece on the upper part of the outfit, the shoes color made the perfect balance and the belt oooh, the belt in red , just perfect!!
:-)
She looks great, really elegant and yet at the same time as if she's thrown it together partly for fun. This outfit is young and experimental, while the colour palette keeps it professional and slick. I am off to recreate it this minute!
NOT Diane Kruger - it's miss MK. Parsons graduates are the best ;)
