That is one hairy shoulder.

Blogger Syed said ... (9:35 AM) :

Wonderful fit, love the trousers, especially paired with those shoes! And the peek of lining from the turned up sleeves is lovely :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 AM) :

great use of accessories in this photo as well. the necklaces don't match the outfit, making it all the more interesting since her hair matches the suit.

Blogger Kelsey Taylor said ... (9:49 AM) :

So sharp.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:49 AM) :

beautiful chic.

Blogger Olviya said ... (9:55 AM) :

nice shoes + classical outfit = stylish casual look

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:01 AM) :

finally clothes women can wear to work in a professional office!

and her hair is quite magnificent too!

Blogger José said ... (10:04 AM) :

Classy!
Oh and the way she's standing just adds to it!

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (10:04 AM) :

I can only agree with Dapper Kid- just what I was going to say. Very flattering length on the pants, as well. Very sleek.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:09 AM) :

Perfect. Love it. Fantastic proportions.

Blogger shoe-addict-mom said ... (10:14 AM) :

love this shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 AM) :

The Gucci ad was chic.

Blogger Lillian said ... (10:27 AM) :

i wish i could look that polished.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:28 AM) :

Nice look. Beautiful shoes and trouser cut, shame we cant see her handbag.

Blogger ricola said ... (10:31 AM) :

Are those McQueen shoes? I thnk they are.

Blogger ADJIUMI said ... (10:52 AM) :

Celin Dion? ;-)
Nice Shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 AM) :

Her trousers toe the line between cropped shorts and full length trousers. nice shoes

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:03 AM) :

I agree! The way she is standing adds to it. I learned at an early age that if you stand like this, no matter what you're wearing people pay attention. Trust me!

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (11:35 AM) :

Wow, so many comments and although people have approved of the shoes, no one is really thinking of their construction. I have always wondered why some women shoes are so expensive when they are just straps of leather. The construction of these is exquisite, comparable to those men's shoes where the entire upper is one piece of leather! I know Louboutin (sp?) sometimes makes them; I would like to know whom the shoes are by. Jorge from W Palm BEach

Blogger Miguel said ... (11:47 AM) :

Apparently pretty tall. Elegant too!

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (11:57 AM) :

Tailored but not corporate--great combo. Those booties are divine.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 PM) :

Great pose. She looks effortlessly well-groomed - that's so chic. The jacket is sharp but there's something about the pants and shoes that bothers me. At first I thought i didn't like the length of the pants but that's not it, i think the shoes are too heavy, maybe some high heeled sandals with wide leather straps would work better?

Blogger S (formerly of Modern-Guilt) said ... (12:07 PM) :

She is effortless and classic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:40 PM) :

In the not too distant future those pants are going to look very very funny.

Blogger Maggie May said ... (12:56 PM) :

very Sarah Jessica Parker, and this is a compliment. chic, lean and lithe, classy and cheeky.

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (1:08 PM) :

Good Lord, Sart, she is a superb find. This young lady is incredibly svelte. And her necklaces are to die for. Magnifique!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:27 PM) :

wonderful trousers! great line, perfect shade of beige, tailored fit! the jacket, umh... a bit too much of shoulders pads (jajaja, I know they're back in fashion and everything, but...), they make the whole look a bit stiff...

and the shoes. ok, they look good on her. but she's tall & thin, with great legs. yet I cannot help thinking that a pair of classic decolletes would have been at least as cool.

Blogger Teena Vallerine said ... (1:46 PM) :

So chic, so sharp, and then those lovely little fun wiggles on the boots! Love it; of course it wouldn't work so well without those looong legs! t.x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:57 PM) :

Absolutely excellent. And it looks as if she did not work too hard at it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:05 PM) :

anne taylored

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:08 PM) :

1. That is one very nicely done lady.
2. Is that a child hidden in his arms? Cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:14 PM) :

Well-balanced, and a very good color with her tawny mane.

Capris do go in and out of fashion, yes, and I resisted them for some time until I discovered how useful they are for dressing up in the summer.

Blogger STEFANIE said ... (2:25 PM) :

I'm not sure if I'd ever wear those trousers, but it suits her great! And I think the jacket has a really nice cut, it's nice to see the little stripe detail on the sleeve :) The necklaces are just amazing, I'd love to have some of those!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 PM) :

I've never ever liked cropped pants -- I think only if you're a thin 9 year old girl should you be allowed to wear cropped pants -- they're like UGG boots to me -- a big Glamour Don't -- they never work and they make everyone look much shorter by cutting the line of one's leg -- and then there is the need for a very high heel just to make the legs look normal. She's really an obviusly chic woman -- but even in those high heels her legs still look rather stumpy to me. And I'm not sold on the shoes, perhaps another pair from her closet?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:54 PM) :

FYI, shoes are Balenciaga- I have them in black. I love them but the heels are incredibly high, only for posing, not running around the city! Great look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

These trousers are nothing more than the dreaded capri pants, and in khaki, no less. They are just a tad sexier than mom jeans. Even though she's probably quite tall, her calves are hacked in half by those damn clam-diggers. This outfit would not be out of place in a Macy's mall in Secacus.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (3:16 PM) :

Chic and modern! I love it!

Blogger paperclipmag said ... (3:17 PM) :

She looks gorgeous. Love the colors. Wish for her long legs - because her pant length really shows off those shoes. And her shoes are perfect for fall.

Blogger squisItaly said ... (3:55 PM) :

I like it -- all of it. What would be a better way to show off those fabulous shoes? Perhaps a cropped-pant suit is in my future.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:08 PM) :

Perfect look for a lean, young professional woman in the late summer work day.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:25 PM) :

UAU. very weel tailored!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:33 PM) :

love that look!! FYI, the necklace is from Mawi London, i'm sure that's from a few seasons ago coz i collect this brand.

Blogger Yarnhog said ... (5:35 PM) :

Love her suit! I wonder if I could get away with wearing that to court?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:48 PM) :

Sheer elegance: relaxed, understated, wholly at ease - perfect. Subtle harmonies capping those wonderful shoes. This image gives great delight.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 PM) :

Capris and booties? I don't like either, but seeing them worn together like this makes me apoplectic. Nein, nein, nein!! mmphhh

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:23 PM) :

She has great hair, the suit accentuates her casual attitude, as well as her stance, she should tuck her top in though do define her waist better, give her a more polished look.--HB

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 PM) :

She looks lovely. I like the short necklace with the longer, daintier necklace. Good contrast and brings the eye to her flat flat tummy!!!

Blogger starbahks said ... (6:46 PM) :

i LOVE the layered accessories.

Blogger Mira Vales said ... (6:54 PM) :

Dear Mr. Schuman, I can't shake off the feeling that lots of people you photograph are in fashion industry. That's all nice but it would be perhaps more interesting to see some people that actually make living doing something different and still manage to sustain interesting personal style. I don't want to disregard your concept but it's much easier to look fabulous for someone who just hang around clothes all day long. And then - it's a bit like circle - fashion writers write about fashion people that talk about fashion writers. Yawn. Please keep it more real:)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:36 PM) :

I think she looks terrific, apart from the hair (hate that ubiquitous too-long, blonde-streaked fashion editor look). It surprises me that I love the pants, because I really don't like cropped pants of any kind. I think that the shoes and the necklace balance each other beautifully, and her height and lean frame suit the suit. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:41 PM) :

I have to agree with the minority; this is not a good look. The pants are wrong, and the shirt is wrong (is that a mans tank top?). She is very beautiful but this look just does not come together. A dark chocolate blouse, long pants and a different shoe and it would be a knockout.

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (7:41 PM) :

tailored to perfection - loving the shoes!

Blogger t does wool said ... (7:45 PM) :

I,on the other hand, just want the shoes...only the shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:35 PM) :

I really love it! Classic chic at is best!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:01 PM) :

Oooh that's Sarah Rutson of the luxury Hong Kong department store Lane Crawford! Great outfit. Someone please tell me where those shoes are from!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 PM) :

hair looks too american sorority girl. suit fab. shoes great. necklaces good. would like the pants to be to her ankles. don't love the length. something amiss for me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:34 PM) :

shoes look ridiculous but the she and the rest of the outfit looks very lovely.

Blogger La Clocharde said ... (9:52 PM) :

So chic.

And...Pushed up sleeves again, Mr. Sartorialist!

I love her amazing shoes.

Blogger Tsar Kasim said ... (10:33 PM) :

I love how the jacket's shoulders project this lady's confidence and ease with her surroundings.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:51 PM) :

She looks amazing, but I think this outfit is a perfect illustration of the fact that in fashion, it often simply comes down (sadly) to THINNESS. I mean, try picturing this outfit on anyone with even a *molecule* of bust, hip or belly, and it would look like a completely lame suburban-mom outfit circa 1987. (It doesn't hurt to have a $600 coif, either... (-; )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 PM) :

Is it true that stylish people are all thin? Seems like even the standard size 6 is too big to make it on here.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:04 PM) :

How I hate booties! Will this trend never die? But kudos to this very tall, trim woman for managing to look very chic even with the dreaded booties.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:05 PM) :

A good look, but pulling it off requires you to have height to burn!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:04 AM) :

I love hearing this woman talk, she just sounds amazing. She looks fabulous too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:38 AM) :

WOW.

I think what we are all struggling with is that the total is much greater that the sum of the parts.

Each item by themselves would be so-so but the way she has put them together- spectacular!

Blogger Diana said ... (2:11 AM) :

I love the combination of the trousers and the shoes, but I suppose, one has to have the necessary height to this combination as well.

But I think, the greatest accessory of this lady is her NOSE.

Blogger Brightlightwarriornika said ... (2:35 AM) :

well put together from the top of her head to her toes!

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:56 AM) :

fabulous

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:12 AM) :

Shoes seem to my eye a little garish, and the hair a touch dated (the girl from Friends springs to mind). Shoulder to knee - she looks great.

A point of interest for me arises from the chap. I can not understand why so many elect to carry a shoulder bag when wearing a jacket. It so often ruins both the line and garment.

Blogger Glowing Doll said ... (4:32 AM) :

I hate cropped trousers but some how on this particular lady it works.

I suspect that her willowy physique and confident stance have a lot to do with it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:43 AM) :

this lady's physique plays a huuuge part in transforming what is really, and ordinary outfit, itnto one worthy of The Sartorialist.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:17 AM) :

perfect!!i love that!!!

Blogger Missy's Got Fighting Blood said ... (8:56 AM) :

I don't like the shoes with those pants; It looks weird to me.

Blogger Missy's Got Fighting Blood said ... (8:57 AM) :

But the hair is nice though

Blogger Ebun said ... (9:24 AM) :

u can just feel her swagger...

Blogger OndrejS said ... (9:37 AM) :

Contrary to the popular opinion here I don't fancy those shoes that much. To underline the conflict between the tailored but informal look I think that some decent sandals might actualy make a pretty exciting composition here. I like the color comination a lot.The overall look is very subtle yet super elegant. Notice all the details: rolled sleeves, lift up lapels, asymetric jewelry. It all smells to me a tiny bit like Gianni Anelli's touch

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:22 PM) :

Sarah Rutson always looks amazing, great style and always at ease with herself, attention to detail without compromising ease. thanks for this!!!

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (12:55 PM) :

She's fabulous. The length of the trousers are perfect. Highlights the shoes beautifully.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:55 PM) :

Loved the hair, the jacket, the accessories, her stance, and everything until I saw the cropped pants. They are an unflattering length, especially paired with those ankle-high shoes.

Blogger Minniti said ... (4:08 PM) :

the new must have length for the ankle boots/shoes of the season. perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:09 PM) :

There is a 50% chance that this woman is a fashion editor because she just looks absolutely fabulous! Chic, modern, polished, everything about this look is fantastic. The length of the pants showcase those gorgeous shoes perfectly and the fun necklaces add life to the whole look. Perfection!

Blogger dova said ... (10:11 PM) :

sarah rutson from lane crawford, right? she looks amazing.
www.donanko.blogspot.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:10 AM) :

There is no doubting that she looks fantastic! But if were to be honest, we would admit that a bit of it has to do with the fact that she is quite slim. Fabulous nonetheless...

Energie

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:04 AM) :

She kicks ass!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:20 AM) :

A dark chocolate blouse, long pants and a different shoe and it would be a knockout.

7:41 PM...

and a different outfit! LOL.

She has a casual elegance, is young, beautiful - and is obviously comfortable with herself. Bravo! Don't copy her outfit - take inspiration and change all the things you don't like to those you do.

And yes, people that work in an industry do tend to spend time with others in the same industry -- why would that be a surprise?

D.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:58 AM) :

No; sorry, but in almost all professions where suits are obligatory, this wouldn't fly. I can't get that out of my head...when I buy a suit, its because I need a suit. I think most people are in the same position, so I don't get too much of a kick out of uber trendy modifications that only work for people in fashion, in Paris, in art, etc.

Lets not forget that most people that wear suits are in conservative professions and love to take them off at the end of the day!

I'm all for playing with the traditional suit--but with limits. I could never, ever get away with these pants.

On the other hand if they were full length, I could for sure wear this outfit on a more casual day.

The necklace would have to go and the blouse would have to be dressier on a formal day, however.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:00 PM) :

Very hot. She gets it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:04 PM) :

those shoess are incredible

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 AM) :

I wish my ankles looked as good in cropped pants!

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (11:09 AM) :

I wish I could find a poplin suit in that shade of tan, which looks great with either a white or blue (or pink or lavender) shirt.

She looks very sharp. The outfit is simultaneously hot and haut.
Her height is striking, and her stance is casually sexy.

The shoes are the bomb, although now I want to go and buy some Yodels and some milk.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:20 PM) :

love the jacket and trousers, white top makes whole outfit look casually chic. love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 PM) :

This lady named Sarah Rutson. She is the Fashion Director of Lane Crawford. No doubt on her taste.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:17 PM) :

sara rutson??

Blogger AL said ... (7:23 PM) :

She wears the looks here ... quite hard to imagine her looking less than sharp. i do think this with skinny jeans would look pretty cool too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:12 AM) :

Nice and sharp figure, I do not really love the pants length, eventhough it is in fashion these days it doesn't look elegant. And the shoes are heavy for the look. I agree on the white high heels sandals ideas. Nice picture though.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:52 PM) :

Yay! A grown-up!!

Blogger "Qcloud" said ... (5:11 AM) :

So cool, it fits her style. I really like her pants style. This pants really fits beautiful long legs. Sometimes, go without your leather belts can make you feel better too.

Blogger mamasan said ... (4:54 PM) :

can't tell if it's the clothes, or the stance, but this lady just reeks of confidence. maybe she just is that, and that makes the clothes look good... making her look even better. love this photo!

Blogger Becka said ... (4:48 PM) :

NO ONE does chic like the French ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:09 AM) :

I love it .. so classic.

Wish we could see her accessories more closely.. they look interesting.

Balenciaga shoes.. sigh.. no wonder!

Blogger CoolestGalUKnow said ... (9:43 AM) :

Sartorialist, how far into the fall season can we get away with a cropped pant? Inquiring minds need to know. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:32 PM) :

I see this woman in so many fashion blogs and she always looks so fantastic whoever she is.
This is no exception. That outfit is perfect.
