Comments on "On the Street....Summer Chic, Milan"
okay, i know this a sartorial blog... but implicit within it is the art of the image. so, will you tell us sart how you capture a street shot while saturating out the background? as a person interested in both fashion and photography i would be very appreciative.
yum. perfect.
He is absolutely my man. I ,love the hut, I love the jacket, I love the glasses and I love his smile!
This guy looks like Jack Nicholson when he was young. I love his stylish outfit in black and white with that colored handkerchief in his pocket.
Classic hat and sunglasses, impressive attitude. He's the man.
Thank you Scott for sharing this image.
Cool!
The contrast's nice, esp. with the upper body outfit.
I like the guy's flare of color with the pocket square and the shades.
It's perfect! What a wonderful combination of sophisticated, cool, casual, masculinity. It doesn't get much better than that.
Very cool. Love the Seersucker. Cool white shirt. Classic black belt. Smart but summer too. Hat works a treat (good tip for you here Scott - doesn't it look Bogart summer-tough and not remotely'Brideshead Revisited' foppish?) The glasses and the hankie sign it all of brilliantly. This guy knows clothes well - but, above all, he knows himself. His clothes frame that great - young Jack Nicholson face. A man's man - who ladies no doubt adore. Excellent from top ro bottom - including the Jack Kennedy hand-in-pocket stance. Timesless. Great shott - I tip my hat to ye!
Those panameñas are just great!
Lovely smile, beautiful hat.
Very, very, nice.
Well that's just an awesome picture alone!
That Hat...thoose glasses!
Too much crap in his suit pockets.
Chic indeed. I love the red-violet pocket square, just enough to lightly disturb the monochromatic wonder.
I like his shades the best! They make the look.
Is that a Michael Bastian jacket?
indeed, very chic. nice hat.
I swoon for men in seersucker. The hat and glasses on this handsome man are just icing on the cake. Great photo.
How sophisticated and sexy. I adore the way he's holding his hat, also. just so classy.
elegant and beautiful. looks like the hat is glowing!
Nothing like the swagger of a gentleman. He reminds me of a more (fashionably) sophisticated Jack Nicholson.
Oh my god, what a handsome man!
ele é tudo de bom,
quase Jack Nicholson
confident.
easy going.
a charmer.
very chic, indeed.
Very simple but chic. I love the sunglasses
if jack nicholson had a sense of style (and a better facialist), this is what he'd look like.
I wish I could see his eyes... I don't think there's much place for sunglasses in the spot where he is or in his outfit. The other elements I love, specially the Panama hat!
What a great way to end the week, thank you! Simple, perfect, elegance. Confidence personified. No needy "look at me!" to end the week.
he got it : panama hat, seersucker, coloured handkerchief, crisp white shirt. perfect !
i absolutely adore the jacket.. actually have a similar one.. just right for the summer.. an absolute thumbs up:)
very handsome!
:)
Pretty close to perfect, except for the trousers which need need to be higher-waisted and any colour other than black.
That minor quibble aside, this chap looks very dapper and rakish, but then he has a touch of the young Jack Nicholson about him and would probably look good in a flour sack and flip-flops.
Does anyone know where I can buy a (seersucker?) jacket like THAT in England? Please?
I'll bet this guy gets all the girls.
for Anon 5:41
he was standing just inside a tent (natural light) that had a black cloth wall a few feet inside.
the trick is to have him stand far away enough from the wall so that no wall detail shows up.
the photo called Marais, Paris (just a few posts down) that guy is standing just inside a paris courtyard - but the courtyard is far enough away that there is very little detail.
the trick of doing these kind of shots is "seeing" the setting then place your subject correctly in that setting.
I learned this concept from looking at Steven McCurry photos.
The hat and jacket (though perhaps a slight too small) make this look for me. Lose the glasses.
I love the way his hat comes to the foreground and he seems to recede...love men who dress like this..
A young Jack Nicholson - divine!!
He's amazing. It's as though he knows how gorgeous he is, but hasn't let it go to his head.
Summer chic? Come to small town Maryland some time. I've been wearing seersucker casulal and vintage Panama for years. I suppose Milan is a bit more romantic, though.
Very manly.... Great combination. Good work.
Some thoughts:
-Who said seersucker jackets have to be worn as a suit?
- Love the glasses. Anyone have a name or source?
- The pocket square just works and revitalizes the 'look' and balances off the seersucker blue.
Great shot; great style.
Great choice
Hat, jacket...and sunglasses...nothing compares to a sexy man with the proper hat and glasses. Just perfect. And I love the red detail in his pocket...great.
Great spiffed-up casual look...the vintage dark belt, dark silk hanky and dark glasses balance the lighter jacket, panama hat, and crisp white shirt. The tone is not supposed to looks serious or over-coordinated, people, that is why the look is called "casual." This guy can sit anywhere and not worry about ruining a pair of white pants.
Oh, Buiongiorno!
I think you found your own hat, Sart:

That's your understated ease, just like that, worn just so.
Evokes Jack Nicholson in "Chinatown".
I passed by this shot several times before actually seeing it. The outfit does not stand out and grag the eye. It has an unassuming casual elegance, cool and confident. I love the hat, but glad to see him holding it for the shot.
An excellent outfit and a great shot.
What equipment do you use (cameral, lens)?
NICE!!!
