Comments on "On the Street....Joakim, Stockholm"
I'm sure you hear this a lot but, as a young college student trying to develop an eye for style, I find your blog a great source of ideas. The photos are also beautifully taken.
Swedes are naturally beautiful!!! Ghost
hot!!!
Thanks! This once again proves that one doesn't need to spend hundreds of dollars to look stylish and well put together.
and btw. he does indeed have this model look going haha
A beautiful young man - put him in a bin bag and he would still look beautiful. That hair-cut is killer.
Sometime you could drop a few words about how you catch your candidates. How many of them recognize you easily at first site, or how do you introduce yourself and explain what your aim is? Are there people who refuse?
Have you told Joakim also your opinion about the model thing? I agree with you, anyway, he is really a great potential.
wow great blog ....
WOW... amazing. He looks great.
And as usual, the photography is just incredible.
wow! $6?!??! it surely doesn't look it
his beautiful eyes, those lips, those luscious lips. the chin, mmmmm
I love this.
T.
we love him
Please answer this? Do you get the contact info for the people on your blog (i.e. name, email). And how? After taking their picture, do you give them your card? Do you take out a pen and a piece of a paper? I am a photographer and I am pretty sure other street photographers would like to know the best way to do this.
Quite right - my oldest and the most precious jacket was a £1.50 when I bought it in the second hand shop thirteen years ago. I still have it, still wear it and still get a lot of compliments;
I agree with you; he should be a model!
that is so gorgeous. <3
I think the key to an all-black ensemble is to be either really polished or totally disheveled, and he manages to do neither. Something like a silver-colored belt buckle, somewhere definite to place the eye would have made this a killer outfit. He has great proportions, and probably looks good wearing anything. My favorite piece here is the coat, as you mentioned. Jorge from W Palm Beach
well, if he does not want to become a model, he could marry me...
By the way - this is only suggestion - what about leaving the old boring trajectory NYC-Paris-Milan-Stockholm-London? There is a lot of interesting characters outside this hegemony, Mr. Schuman! I just came back from Antwerps and Gent in Belgium. I am in Edinburgh, UK now and I can assure you that you would find a lot of spirit and interesting styles in each city as well;)
How fabulous! I love it when a bargain is mistaken for a designer outfit!
By the way, I didn't realise you had children...your kids are so cute!

Scandinavians, with maybe the exception of Finnish, are very free people when deciding what to wear (well, they are very free minded in general). They do dress with whatever they feel like and, as they are usually beautiful, they always look good!
Quite some lessons to take from the cold Northern countries!
PS: By the way, check the Stockholm fashion week for really cutting edge cool designers.
Great style. I like the bracelets peeking out from the otherwise monotone outfit. I think there are many ways to do all black besides "really polished" or "totally disheveled (I've never tried for totally disheveled- might have achieved it accidentally, though).Maybe it's the hair that keeps him from looking disheveled enough (re: Jorge 8:01). The scuffed up shoes work too.
I love it!
totally APC hey!
I hope the kid doesn't fall for this model thing...
Being a model is relly a sad beginning - ending.
This young man should rather seek to cultivate his brain. He will be thankful in a few years...
I'm not a fan. You see too many skinny jeans in Sweden, but this guy pulls them off quite well.
Hopefully you will have time to visit Helsinki during your Scandinavian travels. I think you'll be able to get some great shots!
that coat matches my eyes.
he should give it to me.
Doesn't everybody in Europe look like models? At least that what I though when I moved to Berlin! Greets from Germany!
I think the 6 bucks was waisted. I´d also prefer him to stay out of the model business. For some reason he looks tougher than I believe he actually is.
Too right. I recently picked up a fabulous jacket at a second hand store for 7$ and though it is not as great as that jacket, it has wonderful proportions and I wear it all the time.
I find the Scandinavian fashion approach often too aloof. Sure they make/wear great things, but you cannot deny the common unemotional, simplistic view on garments.
Great photo though!
I agree with Mira 8:18, Sart. You should go to all the cool places in Europe like Antwerp, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Berlin etc.
Oh, he is really lovely isn't he?
This photo is almost timeless, there is nothing to tell what decade it is except for the clothing. If you changed his shoes and told me this was taken in the 40's (Or the 80's), I'd believe you.
cool
yeah, he really should work as a model. he has something
beautiful beautiful boy!!
Great haircut!
yes, this proves that style is not about how much you spend on your clothes etc... I think that's great!
Yea, I agree about the modeling...he has a unique face that would do wonders for him!
Remarkable photo. Joakim lokes so natural and confortable! Congratulations, both model and photographer.
And the pavement makes the perfect frame.
Cristina
This really got me thinking about color. If you removed him from the image, the scene would look quite dark (early morning?). With him there in all black, the street seems illuminated.
What an odd and interesting jacket...the different shades of black are effortless.
These are your first f/w shots. its kinda sad to see summer is over
but I love fall fashion...
S
I think he's a bit boring actually, but there's something about him that catches my eye.
Scott.. you just made me publicize my first ever blog-comment. We met as you zoomed out of the gallery to catch that cab. Think you got a new fan in the process.
About Joakim.. well, if not a model, I think he could certainly become my personal shopper :)
I think he has more potential than being a model. unless he becomes a really good role model.
I agree, he should try out modeling. How do you like Stockholm?
Toodles
No offense to him, but I don't see him as that hot, personally
wow its just amazing. i like the way he wears the black..cool and very sexy.
The skinny jeans compare perfect with that coat.
I fell in love with him ;)

I just love this outfit. Minimalism works for him.
And his lips are amazing. He really should model.
Love your blog.
Congrats .
Yes, he is definitely from Stockholm. The clean, liner silhouette: indeed the uniform of Stokholm, maybe all of Sweden, most of Scandinavia and oft replicated in New York and sometimes San Francisco too. London, also, they like to try this.
I do like the coat, a lot, but I think it relies very (too?) much on context in this photograph. I'm not at all surprised it was 6$, though it looks maybe a bit like a Helmut Lang...that is the point. He wouldn't appear the same if he was wearing a $1000 coat, it's all attitude, baby.
He is reminiscent of Louis Garrel, the French Actor. A little more restrained, in the face.
I mean to say, there is nothing incredibly special about him. It's a nice look, c'est tout.
wow, i forget how beautiful swedish men are, then whenever i go there i dont blink for a week!
It looks like a green grocers coat...he looks great in it!...def. a very handsome young man!
He is QUITE the looker. It's amazing the things you can buy for next to nothing that will still look great.
Xo, Dani
Noughties are back aren't they?
The minimalism however remains perfection in all other aspects and this young gentleman fully delivers on this front.
Stunning...
it looks just like a shop coat.
I am really confused about all the comments about him wearing black. Maybe it's just on my screen, but his shoes are brown, the coat is green, and he is wearing a neon yellow and lime bracelet.
And he does look like a model. I agree.
LOVE the COLOR!!!
Great minimalist/functionalist look. Clean lines and purposefulness eminate from his look. Model? Definitely...
I'm his friend so just to make everything clear, the coat isn't black, the coat is green and the shoes he's wearing, they are brown.
i think it's sad how this guy and the girl below are both wearing jackets, and it's not even september yet!!
but yeah, i like this guy's jacket. i've got a similar shaped jacket that maybe i should wear again.
Are my eyes deceiving me? It seems to me that the jacket is a dark forest green, not black as many people have said. Am I the only one who sees this?
That is one incredibly good looking boy.
His lab coat looks really good, and the great thing about it (other than the price!) is that coats like it are really easy to get a hold of, just google "lab coat"... If you want any other colour: Just dye it red, or yellow, or green! Fantastic idea really, wearing a lab coat as a jacket! :) /Björn
Thats a great idea.. White lab coat and dye. Cheers mate.
Nice photography and great blog.
cool
Second hand stores for the win.
i can definitely respect a man who pays $6 and looks that good.
I don't see any great clothes or style in this one. I see a good looking young potential model who may be able to make anything he wears look good. This would be a disaster on most other people.
Photography is well done as usual.
scott, you placed him at the convergence of all the points in the frame so that everything kind of closes around him, i don't know whether it is claustrophobic or cozy. the asymmetrical haircut and the little bit of neon color at his wrist, the way either the light or the wear on the toes of his shoes plays, the overcast sky...what a beautiful photo, a beautiful man.
this guy is dead sexy, and has style to boot. his look is unique too-I agree that he should be a model.
scott,
this is not a post for this pic. rather, i have been visiting your site for time, and have something to say. i am in an entirely different field altogether, psychoanalysis actually, and have been struck by your calm and even way of handling difficult situations (the thom browne/brooks post as but one example). not that it matters, but you come off a real gentleman with equanimity and poise - not to mention your sartorial and photo skills. well done.
regards,
a fellow new yorker
dude should totally be a model. and i need to go to stockholm.
his all black look is handsome..complete wid tat hairstyle of his..
he only pulls this off because he actually looks like a model.
lab coats are ugly. models are not.
Love the little splash of bright green around his wrist! It really matches the subtle black / green of his coat. Georgeous!
I love HIM...
I sometimes wear one of those for work and frankly it depresses me. Yes he's handsome and well groomed but the 'coat' stinks. However, the girl below (who also looks like she paid $6 for her jacket) is adorable. The photo's are stunning as ever.
Nice to see that you are in stockholm! You have a lot of fans in sweden! Regards, A swedish blogger...
GREAT shot
The Coat is Green , I'm the guy from the picture, so I can tell you it's Green. Thanks for the comments!
he's not wearing all black....
that being said, he still looks good.
Love the colour of the caot! He quite dreamy <3
he is so so so good looking
he is gorgeous! this is one of my favorite photos ever. xo
I know, this is a beautiful shot. He looks a bit like Damien Kulash from OK Go.

I actually think that the Finns are the most adventurous when it comes to fashion! Check out www.hel-looks.com!
These photos are so gorgeous!
I like the way you take them!
See ya!
It's a labcoat, you can get them in almost any colour you like. Quite popular among some of us science students, it's mostly worn on student events, but I really like that he took the trend out in the streets without looking like someone fleeing from lab hours :)
maybe he is too intelligent to become a model.
so silly what you say
I would like to have tea with
Amazing how no one noticed the green color of the coat. Look at the T shirt and its plain as day! He has the height, the hair is a big plus and his face is perfectly symmetrical. Great model material. I can't wait to get back to Europe. You would be delirious in Antwerpen - VERY fashionable people walking the streets all day.
If I were to spend $6 on a coat it would look like £1.50! Clearly he should be a model and I should avoid getting photographed in the street! t.x
I Love This!
it´s swe collage look.
Filosofi och Neuropsykologi programmet Skövde. Vi går sådär ;)
I like his shoes and hair! Damn he's stylish.
He looks great. Six dollars? Now I'm wandering what places that guy shops at.
hes completely remarkable.
When I visited Sweden, the beauty of the people through me for a loop!! They all look like they should be on the runway!! this guy is no different!!
Lol.
he deffo has the model look going for him and i love his outfit!!
soo cute :)
and that totally proves we don't have to spend a fortune on clothes to have a great sense of style!!
Love it :) xxxx
Is that Medborgetplatsen in Sodermalm? (Sorry about the spelling!)
Just love all the photos from Stockholm, next time come to Gothenburg and we can show you the front side of Sweden :)
helsinki. period.
Next time that you're in Sweden, Go to Östersund in the middle. You wont be dissapointed.
I'm loving the worn out shoes paired with the crisp coat. And the colours are subtle but not sad.
