I think this is one of the best examples on how accesories make the whole outfit work out in two totally different situations...

sexy and chic for a fashion show
&
casual and chic (again!) for a walk

xx

Blogger lucia martinez said ... (5:52 PM) :

the first one looks like something out of Fellini...wonderful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

Are those the same hat and heels? An obvious question perhaps. I guess I ask because it seems the opposite of an obvious choice. Awesome.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (5:54 PM) :

most sexy 53 year old.

Blogger S (formerly of Modern-Guilt) said ... (5:54 PM) :

She is the EPITOME of chic, and these photos capture that. Great job!

Blogger starbahks said ... (6:07 PM) :

she's amazing.
i LOVE the shoes and hat.

Blogger Adiel | Rose Gold Lining said ... (6:09 PM) :

Oh wow that dress is fantastic in number one!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:22 PM) :

the texture and color of the first outfit compliment her skin and hair colour and puncutates her already long legs. Eye-catching but not in a "look at me" way. Chic.

The second outift plays the hat well but it is very age inapproriate. Frankly, denim and a skull shirt crosses the line into trashy and doesn't do anyone any favours.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (6:37 PM) :

Carine always looks at ease with what she's wearing. I love her in the simple denim skirt and tee, and of course she always looks great in Alaia!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:49 PM) :

anyone can id the Hat ? it's beautiful love it <3 i know the total look from AlAIA....

merci

R.K

Blogger A La Femme said ... (6:52 PM) :

Wow, she looks so amazing in the first picture. Love it!!

Blogger pepastyling said ... (7:16 PM) :

She knows what she's doing congratulations!! sexy, femenin, playful, not taking fashion to seriously I love these two pictures, I'll jump into my closet right now to see what can be done..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:24 PM) :

This woman is so stylish she can wear patently absurd items and make them covetable!

Blogger LRB said ... (7:29 PM) :

She looks like something out of a cinema flick. It's the hat maybe. I watched her saunter into the Gramercy Rose Bar once, totally same effect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:32 PM) :

STUNNING

Blogger Jen said ... (7:35 PM) :

she truly is an icon of style! never out of fashion!

where are the shoes from? i think i need them to complete my collection! they're beautiful!

Blogger matt williams said ... (7:46 PM) :

Carine Roitfeld is sp stylish. Who says that only 20somethings are sexy. She wears mini skirts with class and style. I wish American culture would appreciate an older woman.

Another older knockout without a load of plastic surgery is Helen Mirren.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:54 PM) :

Holy cow! That gal can wear clothes like nobody's business.

Blogger Landis said ... (7:55 PM) :

i've seen the dress before on her.

i love her for that.

like my southern mother always said:
you can get away with anything,
as long as you look comfortable in it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:00 PM) :

Same shoes, but pass on the skull and cross bones. Come on.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:29 PM) :

It's also proof that attitude plays such a huge part in how you're perceived. The top photo just exudes class, and the bottom casual playfulness. Great! theMark, Tokyo

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:34 PM) :

The dress and shoes look gorgeous in the top pic. The hat needs to go in both pics though. In fact, the whole ensemble in the second picture needs to go!

Blogger Sean Santiago said ... (8:35 PM) :

Carine Roitfeld always brings a smile to my face - love the outfits!

Blogger Hannah Stephenson said ... (8:37 PM) :

Love the punch of one very neutral color:

Blogger ashley said ... (8:39 PM) :

i believe you've photographed her in the nude dress above once before. it's very refreshing to see someone so high-profile use accessories to revamp their look.

Blogger Karen said ... (8:49 PM) :

That's quite an interpretation of the flapper dress in -- jersey, is it? Interesting. Wouldn't suit me at all, but interesting.

The denim skirt and black tee is more in my line, though I'd nix the skull (I'm just not into deathwear) and super-high heels. For me anyway. I'd fall off of them. The hat -- do like.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:54 PM) :

Stylish..Chich...Lovely. Great work Sart!

Blogger filbertandlaguna said ... (10:14 PM) :

when i grow up, i want to be a 'woman of a certain age'.

wow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:25 PM) :

I like seeing "rich and famous" people wearing the same thing more than once!

I like the second outfit alot, but not the skull logo. Otherwise she looks very carefree and elegant. Great SHOES!!!! I love them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:34 PM) :

This woman is awesome: part gothic muse and punk rock mistress and all deadly sleek chic. Carine (along with Melanie Ward) are two of the greatest stylist this industry has to offer-- no hype, just pure brilliance. Her work at French Vogue is inspiration.

I'm just a bit green with eny you work with her Sart ;-)

--PLO

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 PM) :

she eminates ease in both pictures but more elegant and ethereal she becomes in the first. Her body is art and she is caught with the picture in time...a shapely and statuesque monument of effortlessness. HB

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:50 PM) :

She looks great.

For the person that asked - the hat is from Balenciaga and the dress and shoes are from Alaia.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:51 PM) :

Ah Carine,
Your name should be Caroline and then we could all sing along to: Sweet Caroline! At 50+ she's still got 'it'

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:53 PM) :

I actually surprise myself by saying that I like both looks on her. I do love the way that she makes the heels and hat work so differently with the two looks. We've seen her in that dress before. Cool. I have to laugh - no at but with the first commenter - but I can't see anyone going out "for a walk" in those heels, plus or minus the denim. ;-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 PM) :

Seriously.. Conde Nast needs to place her in Anna Wintour's position!

incredible!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:27 PM) :

I didn't even realize that the accessories were the same until someone pointed it out -- two amazing looks. She continues to inspire.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 PM) :

The hat is Balenciaga mens.
The shoes Alaia

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 PM) :

Love Carine always :)

Scott I walked pass you on the street today!
But I was in a bad mood (mad at my boss) so I didn't say hi...
Well, hope to run into you again and would definitely say hi!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 PM) :

She looks a knockout in the first pic and absolutely bloody awful in the second; that denim skirt is particularly hideous.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (12:00 AM) :

Well, come on. It's Carine. Would you expect less? The girl can't help it.

She's got a rockin' body and unreproachable good taste/style (as she should with her job). But still her eyes and her smile are her best features IMO.

Her casual style is especially righteous to me. Although I wouldn't personally rock 4" heels with a denim skirt she works the hell out of it. Love the hat too. I even dig the shoes although normally I really hate gladiators - they're much too fashionable to be interesting but Carine knows how to pull it together in a very organic way and she never looks like the clothes are wearing her. She makes it look effortless.

God, I hope I look this good when I'm her age.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:09 AM) :

i love the neutral colours of the top outfit.. i appreciate how she shows that statement shoes can still be a nude-coloured and elongate the legs instead some of the terrible clunky shoes that dont suit many leg shapes..
and i agree with several people above that the second outfit is merely passable - probably only because it is miss roitfeld!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:24 AM) :

who makes these shoes?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:40 AM) :

the skull tee/denim skirt combo doesn't quite work... esp with these heels and hat. don't see anything about it that is stylish. i am surprised people like the outfit at all.

first foto -- great.

btw, thanks, man. i'm a huge fan of what you do.

Blogger Fabio Bucciardini said ... (3:44 AM) :

I LOVE THE HAT.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:59 AM) :

she looks always great but the shirt with the skull?? horrible

Blogger George A. said ... (4:06 AM) :

Haha I thought she promised that she would never wear jeans/denim since it wasn`t for her. (In a New York Magazine profile I think?)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:22 AM) :

High heels spartans kills, for shure

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:34 AM) :

picture no 2, funky

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 AM) :

It is interesting that she is only carrying a small wallet and then a small clutch. Does she have the huge chiropractor bills that I do from carrying huge handbags? Oh how I pray they will go out of style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:19 AM) :

The hat is Balenciaga Homme SS 08. I see her very often with it !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 AM) :

What kind of hat is that? It's fantastic, I absolutely love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:19 AM) :

Just when I needed it, thanks for posting a picture of my idol. Thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:04 AM) :

ooooh la la. Amazing Alaia dress.
It takes a confident woman with a great body to pull it off though..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 AM) :

She's awesome! so chic, so very french. She's practically an icon.

Blogger MARIA H said ... (7:55 AM) :

I'm not a devotee of her, but I do like one of these two.
She has this way of adapting "americana" into her style like no other (specially in her editorials).

Love the second one...the first mehh.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (8:08 AM) :

I believe The New York Times used a picture of her in the Nude Alaia yesterday (styles section). Your posting, though, is better: we can see how she uses her hat and shoes for two completely different outfits. Moral of the posting- look at everything that is being offered for the season, think of what you already got in your closet, and go for a few pieces that you can wear to the bitter end! If it works for a fashion editor, it works for us! Jorge from W Palm Beach

Blogger InStudio Blog said ... (8:37 AM) :

LOVE that dress!, and how you captured the other photographer. It proves just how good she looked.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:57 AM) :

she is so great, i have to cry in envy!
please dear lord, let me look that great when i'm 53.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:17 AM) :

The first outfit is a knock out. Perfect in every way. I feel the only reason that second outfit is photographed on this website, however, is because Carine Roitfeld is the person wearing it. I guess the point is though, that any random woman would probably wear that and look like a mess, but Carine looks pretty good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 AM) :

Haha, clever post! It's amazing how well the hat + shoes work in both outfits... :3

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:39 AM) :

First picture is amazing and inspirational. Second picture is not age appropriate and it looks like last years Bebe T-shirt. I am disappointed in her.

Heidi

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:42 AM) :

The first photo is very chic.

The second photo makes her look like trailer trash.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 AM) :

This women should take the hat off. It is a distraction! She takes get care of her self, great boby, hair cut is probibly not greatclips. So why, the hat. She looks so elegent, and then bam! theres that eye sore hippy crap on her head. She must not like something about her face? Dose she sleep with it on too?

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (10:09 AM) :

She has such a great style!
The hat with the shoes... wow!

Blogger Caroline said ... (10:12 AM) :

UHM. i need those shoes moer than anything in the world. how is she always so stunning?

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (10:14 AM) :

Wonderful dress in the first picture and I applaud her foregoing unneeded accessories BUT the hat looks goofy, in both guises.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:29 AM) :

Oh, that dress looks soooo comfy! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:32 AM) :

The hat is balenciaga dress and shoes Alaia

Blogger Artemisia said ... (11:39 AM) :

When did Carine become a blond?

Seriously?

I do love the looks, yes, oddly both which is rather unlike me as I have not worn/seen a jean skirt like that since...1982!!

I do love, love the heels. I just bought a similar pair at ZARA's this weekend ..for $29.99

Laura

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:18 PM) :

These are gorgeous. I wish more women in America wore whatever hats they wanted instead of just what is super stylish at the time.

Blogger JO said ... (12:24 PM) :

She looks fabulous in both - I want those shoes!!

Blogger Paula said ... (12:26 PM) :

Gorgeous Carine(!)Always with her fantastic shoes! The second picture is not very flattering though...
She's the incarnation of "le chic parisien.."
Thank you for the pictures!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 PM) :

Beautiful woman, beautiful dress, cool hat. The shoes, however are merely fashionable, not stylish. Although beige, they still stumpify her legs.

Ratty denim skirt and skull tee? Really? Meh.

Suzette

Blogger The Marvelous Miss Malkavich said ... (12:35 PM) :

It's her daring that makes her so sexy. I love that she is unafraid to mix and match. A great woman of style.

Blogger cami falcão said ... (2:54 PM) :

Carine always looking good...she smells very good as well, all day long.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:00 PM) :

Stunning dress on the first pic. I want one!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:25 PM) :

Wow, I wish I could agree with the majority here, but that hat simply does not fit her head! It is perched there and looks like it's about to tumble off. The beige dress, however, and the sandals are very, very chic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:34 PM) :

Often when she wears a dress that was on the runway, she looks better than the model. You need a great figure for that dress.

Blogger NICOLE said ... (4:43 PM) :

she knows exactly what shes doing with every outfit... i would never think that hat would look good with that dress but i am sadly mistaken! she looks so fabulous and mysterious in the first picture!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:57 PM) :

The beige dress is horrible: the trim around the neckline, the runching, the whole thing looks like it's off a second-rate market stall somewhere in a middle-English town. The one thing I can find to say in its favour is that her figure looks stunning in it.

The second photo is even worse! It reminds me of something from, say, New Look's 'teen' collection.

I do, however, adore the shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:38 PM) :

I saw Carine in a Paris restaurant once and she looks even more stunning in person, and she's so sexy even at 50+

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:48 PM) :

So sultry! So sexy! So chic! Carine Roitfeld is one of the only women who can make a jean skirt look elegant! And that nude dress is just stunning, especially with the monochromatic shoes and hat!

Blogger krissybee14 said ... (7:27 PM) :

She is really stunning... Very simple but elegant...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:44 PM) :

This is the first time this summer that I've seen those open-toed boots (or are these hybrid gladiators?) and they don't make me want to hurl. They actaully look good in these applications! It's definitely the color of the leather. And she's proof positive that you can be super hot no matter how old you are - you just have to have the right attitude!

Blogger Anastasia said ... (8:29 PM) :

can she be anymore stylish?? FAB!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 PM) :

I love Carinne, BUT, are you guys seriously telling me that you like the second outfit? And that hat?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:13 PM) :

GOD...she always looks stunning...and her job at french vogue is perfection...She is so parisien Chic...LOVE the hat and the dress

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:53 AM) :

always look amazing, i love her sense of style !

Blogger Sarah @ Designs Good said ... (1:32 PM) :

oh Carine, what can i say... you rock!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:50 PM) :

It doesn't really matter what she's wearing, she makes it sing. And she can't look 'age inappropriate', because she's simply ageless.

Bluebell

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:58 AM) :

fantastic !!!!

Lady Z.

Blogger Ryan said ... (11:08 AM) :

She looks amazing in the first pic! It's amazing what accessories can do for an outfit. The outfit would be no big deal without the hat but the hat pulls everything together and looks great with her shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:49 AM) :

Balenciaga Men Hat, Season SS08.

Blogger Emmanuelle said ... (12:21 PM) :

J'adore Carine!!!!! For me her and Emmanuelle Alt are the two greatest of all the editors!!! They have such panache and naughty style, that it makes everyone of their looks desireable...Anna Wintour take some notes!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:33 PM) :

Oh, Carine. So simple, so cool.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:21 PM) :

Gorgeous!!

Blogger Cheryl Lynn Pastor said ... (7:51 PM) :

Positively amazing. I like both looks. And she's 53?! I'll be 50 in November of this year. What an inspiration. I hope someone wants to take my picture when I'm walking down the street (or sitting in a chair, or eating a sandwich, whatever I happen to be doing at the moment)LOL

Blogger pringleofbelgium said ... (8:01 AM) :

Precisely the reason why I read Vogue Paris instead of Vogue US. Ms. Roitfeld's magazine truly brings the reader into a fashion experience, one that hasn't been seen since that late 80's and early 90's. She is fashion. I love her...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 PM) :

my favourite woman in fashion - so easy chic, only europeans can show this - especially french and italian people, and russian from my past experience

Blogger divasoul said ... (8:45 AM) :

Utterly fabulous! LOVE the shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:40 PM) :

I don't understand what anyone sees in that dress. It looks cheap, is utterly dull, yet annoyingly frilly, and it doesn't even fit her at the bust.

Carine has an amazing figure, perhaps that's what you guys are reacting to?

The hat, yes. The heels, oh yes! But the dress? Oh no.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:02 AM) :

These shoes are wonderful!!!!
Love them!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:21 AM) :

wow the first one... absolute elegance... what a woman.

Blogger Tim McFarlane said ... (8:38 PM) :

The dress fits her very nicely. I really like the details on it, along with the hat and shoes.

Not a fan of the top in the second shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:58 PM) :

What I love about her is that she's an iconoclast. Made wearing white shoes with black tights ok out of season. One year she'll say furs and handbags are Out(with her)
The following year, she'll wear both.
I rember one time her wearing a strange beige skirt that would look horrible on anyone but she pulls it off.
