Comments on "On the Street.....April Flowers, Milan"
I very like the dress
Now that type of mixing takes mad skills....love the balance of wooley and floaty. Reminds me of some of the looks in the last Dries Van Noten show ( which I loved) but was dismissed by La Horyn. Still getting over that one!
Thanks for the inspiration on these raw spring days.
Oh how cute she is. Now this is a nice mix match of clothes, carefully chosen, but it really looks like she just picked up something and then something and ended up to perform a really effortless look. Naturally you have to have a slim figure to end up with something like this.Actually I´m quite thrilled.
Cute, but without color it leaves me feeling flat.
Far away good, up close, not so good. Way to complicated.
Love the bag and how it is gently worn. Expensive or not, leather gets that patina with use; it is why people should think long and hard before buying a leather item. Whether it is a belt, a jacket, a bag or a briefcase, a leather item should last for quite a few years. Classic lines work best, as in this case! The shoes here are a bit trendier but then shoes do get worn out, especially in walkable european cities. Love the picture. Jorge from West Palm Beach.
those are the heels that have been missing from my life.
love them with the dark tights.
i would disagree with 'flat'. the colours are by no means bold, but all over she has achieved an incredibly harmonious palette, which is in many ways better.
I love it! she's got great layering skills. i am now pregnant and that kind of style is what i am going for. not that i am hiding it, but no one can really tell what is going on under there, they are so fascinated by the layers and textures. and it's functional in the cold morning warm afternoon chicago spring!
This blog is a gem! I came across it at time.com yesterday and I'm a fan already!
Fantastic! Love the combination of the delicate dress and the more comforting layers. And a fabulous use of a more, I suppose, autumnal palate. Great shoes, too, and a lovely smile. Couldn't really ask for more.
How soothing...calm beauty
She's the kinda girl I'd like to hang out with!
She reminds me of one of the polygamist wives from that compound in Texas. Not that that's a bad thing, I guess.
adorable! perfect amount of contrast and layering!
this bag looks great!
My grandma looks the same
Perfection.
Hey, does she have her hand in her scarf?
I really love it!
The mixture, the hair!, the bag, the scarf, (the dress, of course),
...exept the shoes... but it´s never easy with platforms, I think.
Beautiful girl, with a beautiful and effortless sense of style-- and she looks like a very young Miuccia Prada...
I love her look; it reminds me of Miu Miu from the 1990s - that combination of a floaty dress, thick tights, and demure shoes. Just lovely.
the bag and shoes are lovely :)
does anyone know where that bag is from? love this outfit.
I love the bag and the shoes. Especially the way she matched the white shoes with black tights.
Sweet look!
pocket scarf.....sweeeeet
Love the bag! The worn in look is so shabby, but a much loved piece has an elegance all its own!
I love this 'earthy', natural palette. I love the layers and the hand-made-looking scarf with pockets. And the innocent hairstyle :) The whole is just adorable.
Catriona, the bag is from Prada!
I love this look!
Does anyone know where that bag is from? I love how it is simple understated chic.
-From T.O.
Love the bag!
This is a cute outfit. Is she Mennonite? or Amish?
Hi Sartorialist,
I was just wondering, when you approach someone to take a picture of them, how do you introduce yourself?
i also was wondering where the bag was from! lovely.
Good call on the hand in scarf...didn't even notice.
But look at her hair! The twist with the cream flower holding it in place. My favorite part of the whole picture.
Charming, lovely, wonderful. So fresh and cute. Say farewell to that scarf and that black jacket and Spring will be complete.
she is a miuccia prada apprentice!
when will you come to Buenos Aires ?
this chic makes layering + texturing look tres easy! however, it's a skill a lot of people lack- including moi... i hope i can create/pull off a similar look this [australian] winter. simply inspiring.
Sart........please come to London!!!
K
Wow. I seem to be the only one who hates this look. She looks super frumpy. She's also a weird mixture that I can seem to figure out because it's between overdone and NOT trying hard enough???? Her hair is really awful for her face, the dress is not flattering and that small sweater on top of it looks very cultish. To pull of the short/big sleeve jacket, one must have a very thinning outfit on underneath it and this ain't it! Normally love dark tights with white heels, but not with the rest of this. This is also one of the least inspired locations I have seen on this site. Normally LOVE everything you find Sart, but this one I just don't see the charm at all.
Something about the proportions of this seem a bit off. Like the cropped jacket and the chunky scarf, but the given that both fit her so loosely, I feel like it calls for something more fitted on the bottom to balance the look.
It would have been better for her to balance the jacket/scarf with a very fitted pant or mini and tights. Or alternately, the dress with a very narrow, closely fitted jacket or cardigan.
wow lusting after that beautiful bag.. what a great colour! goes perfectly with her lovely dress, but i think some daintier(?) shoes would have lifted the outfit a bit more.. her shoes look a little clunky.. and i agree with someone else's comment that she reminds me of a young Miucci Prada! wow.
My medical student friend just told me this: "...reviewing the muscles in the leg, and one of them is called sartorius from the latin word for "tailor", because of the way the tailors sat cross-legged. (it is the muscle you would see if you looked down on your legs when sitting cross-legged)"
Really cool name. kudos.
I like the antique feel of it, but that dress is just much too light for black opaque stockings. The fabrics and colours are very dissonant to me.
I don't know, but I'm an old fashioned girl and can't deal with the dark tights and shoes another color yes but the dark - nope. Of course I come from LA where there is no fashion and now by some strange set of circumstances I live on a rural farm. My spring ensemble consists of navy coveralls in a natural fiber - splattered in hay and set off by well-worn leather boots with just a hint of cow pie. But I like to look and have lots of opinions. A girl can dream.
Gorgeous bag! I think she definitely is channeling a lot of Prada, and let's face it, that is seldom a bad thing.
Energie
so nice girl
I like everything in this outfit, except the dress, in this combination. The color matches great but not the material.
Sart,..... please come to Geneva! You havent been in this part, its close to Milan.
Perfection!
I would love to know the style of those who are saying "it's too this or too that".
the bad thing about white shoes (as mum taught me) is the fact they get dirty very easily. but i really like the look with black stockings.
i also love the bag. its a great size, and a great shape, great colour, and i also like the texture (or the look of it).
(:
i actually found this a little heavy. maybe it's the shoes and the tights...
Love the print, as well as the dark tights/light shoes. And the texture of the scarf. The color of the Prada bag is perfect too with the outfit. She's definitely a pro!
I would love to see the outfit without the scarf... love the light pink shoes with gray stockings.
Che bella Italiana! :-)
I love her whole look. She puts together so many different elements into the look. Combined with her beautiful, sweet face and cute hair, she looks lovely. Good pick!
I like this look as a whole, but I think the shoes make her feet look huge! I've noticed this several times with the platformed pumps (I'm sure this is not the technical term, please forgive) and it keeps causing me to gawk.
Since I have big feet anyway (U.S. 9.5 or 10), I could NEVER pull of such a look without looking like a clown.
She, however, looks adorable and unique, despite her magnified feet.
Love the tiny woman - and the big bag! It's what - 25% of her height? Adorable.
I just realized I have those shoes in black! They are L'Autre Chose - a quiet Italian label that I love. I like the color and texture mix!
she seems to be a doughter of miuccia prada...
you could title this post "mennonite chic, milan." which is not to say it's not adorable!
At first I thought this outfit is lovely, I like the black tights with the light colored dress and pumps. Then someone said she looks like her grandmother, and she is right! This is grandma dressing! I know it is a really popular style especially among the very young ladies, but at 29 I would rather be a foxy lady than a premature golden girl! Anyway, thank you for the educative shot and sharp comments.
I like the thick tights with the thin floatiness of the dress - i think this is a very modern look.
i don't think she overthought this look. it seems like she wanted to wear a dress, but it was still really cold, so she added a sweater, but it was STILL too cold, so she added a jacket, then decided her neck was cold, so threw on a scarf...and it works!
I really love her bag.
I also really love her bag, very sweet she is altogether. The scarf could have been done without though. I think.
I wonder what she puts in that huge bag?
Very nice, like a pretty PVC tool lady
I really like your dress. Thanks for sharing here. Keep up the good work.
