The Sartorialist for Paris Vogue
One of the things I like about the blog format is the sense of "real time" that it can convey on developing stories.
To that end, remember back in early January when I did a post about a project I was shooting for Paris Vogue?
I shot the story all though fashion week(month) in NYC, Milan and Paris.
The issue is just now hitting the stands and I couldn't be more happy with the results.
I ended up getting the cover(!) of this model supplement and a very large number of shots inside.
As you can imagine this is a big day for me.
ps thanks to everyone that turned out for the Met panel discussion yesterday!
pss I am in NYC for the next three weeks so get ready for some (hopefully great) New York Area street style shots. I might end up in Princeton and Yale in the next two days (hint)

*please* come to Princeton. we may not have a design major, but there is a lot of great style and beautiful photo opportunities. I'm an undergrad and a huge fan of your blog, as are many of my friends. we would love to have you here.
This is a very good supplement !
I love your shot !!
Congratulations on your shots for Paris Vogue's cover! Best wishes for you and I hope you'll get many many big projects ahead!
-VD-
Congratulations Sart!!!!!!
You really deserve it! I cannot wait to receive my Vogue then!
Felicitations!
Very inspiring, I'm looking forward to see more of your male fashion shots too, is it possible that you'll do some couture fashion in the future?
-from your huge fan <3
I recently read here someone complaining that we have been commenting more on you as a photographer than on style...... Well, guess what! There is a very good reason for that! You are an amazing photographer and even though you always capture great looks, it's your whole work as a photographer that is reaching another level!
By coincidence, I just came home with this month's Vogue Paris. And Oh My God! Your portraits are exquisite! Congratulations, you are the best at what you do! Now doubt about it!
And, by the way, Carine is a genius!
Wake up, Anna!
PS: I am still waiting for your book. I can just picture it, opening night chez Colette!
Congratulations on the Vogue Paris cover! I am definitelly picking up an issue now. I was at the panel discussion yesterday and loved hearing you speak. I feel it would have been a bit dry without you there. Thank you for bringing this offten pretentious and seemingly out of reach world of fashion not to the masses, but globally to individuals who see themselves as a canvas.
Congratulations! This is my new favorite blog (oh, the inspiration!) and I've been passing it on to anyone and everyone who will listen. Can't wait for more good news (and fabulous shots) from you!
Princeton and Yale! This is should be very interesting...I can't wait.
ps Congratulations on Paris Vogue!
Congratulations! Great shots—and boy, is that some attractive magazine design.
Congratulations - your work is highly deserving of such a showcase. Thank you for keeping your posting going strong and giving all of us - even those of us in Germany ;) - ideas, inspiration and food for thought.
Oh gosh, congratulations.
Do you know Sart that dropping over your blog has become one of my daily morning routines? Along with teeth brushing, preparing my tea (I don't drink coffee) and poring over news ;). This blog is one of the BASICS when starting my day :))
Thank you for being a part of that panel discussion...it was great and really interesting. My only issue with the entire event is the need people have to complicate their questions. I feel like they were all part of a secret competition to see who can use the most 15 syllable words in one sentence lol.
But seriously,
Thank you.
You should come to Boston!
Congrats! I'll check the magazine out!
Nice work Scott! And interesting to see a photograph in a horizontal format.
congrats!! <3
maybe you should start up a university tour? (hint, hint)
congratulations sart!!!! we're all so happy for you and your success! keep the pics coming...
did you take all of those? I've never seent he lily Donaldson, Coco Rocha, or the girl sitting on the wall one. Could you post them?
congratulations.. u deserve it :)
oh man. that'd be amazing. you've definitely gotta make your way up to New Haven. There are so many ridiculously well-dressed people around here
Way to go, you should be very proud.
Come to Toronto, while you are traveling! This is a great city with lots for you to snap.
As another Princeton student and longtime fan, I completely agree with the first poster. There might not be as much variety here as in New York, but I think you'd be pleased with the great style of both the undergrads and the professors.
And congrats on Paris Vogue!!!
from the supplement to the real thing is only a matter of time now!
congrats sart!
Congrats Sart! :)
There's no better place for your work than Paris Vogue: congrats!
And I'm glad that lovely shot of Anya Rubik in giant pants made the cover; it's one of my favorites.
AMAZING!!! Congratulations to an extremely deserving photographer. I'm totally addicted to your blog so I couldn't be happier for you!
May this be the first of many covers to come :)
Beautiful, congrats on all your success. I will be sure to find a copy of this to add to my collection of magazines to keep.
congrats scott! i will definitely go and buy this issue!
Now I have to figure out where I can get a copy of Paris Vogue in my town! Congratulations on the cover. I love it that your aesthetic of excellent photos of models in street settings is being featured, because I find it so much more exciting than some of the fantasy shoots I see.
Will you share any of the panel experience with us? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
Thanks as always for the daily inspiration.
Wow! Amazing cover! Definitely influencing the fashion world through the Sartorialist! Congratulations....and thank you for the enthusiastic and informative session yesterday at the Met!
It will be interesting to see what you come across at Yale. There are a few very well dressed people, but they're not often on Cross Campus in the middle of the day.
This also means that perhaps I should do laundry.
You definitely deserve it! Many congratulations : ) I'm going out to get this issue - now.
You should stop by Columbia while you're in New York to kick off what seems like a university tour...
You've officially hit the BIG TIME with the Vogue cover!!
Savour this time and hope to hear of more future success.
Say hello to the girls at Princeton and Yale. Don't come and say that things are not what they used to be.
Just hunt a bit and you will find.
Try to get some pics of professors.
Champagne tonight for your success!!
The cover! Awesome! Congratulations :)
congrats sart!
i just ran to the store to get my paris vogue mag! im glad i live in europe!
typo: I shot the story all >>>>th(r)ough<<<< fashion week(month) in NYC, Milan and Paris.
Congratulations! You are on fire! Great to see and hear you speak yesterday at the Met. The COVER of Vogue - does it get better? (It will!) Sweet moment.
I was so happy yesterday that you described the genesis of the Sartorialist. It is affirming and encouraging to see the power of that leap of faith. You were and are generous to share what you see and are jazzed about for free. That you kept at it without knowing where and how it would lead you - and are now getting such plum projects is fantastic. You invented a gig for yourself. Takes a lot of work and trust of the little interior voice to do that. And support - a cheer for your wife and kids!
I hope it inspires others to dig into the things that intrigue them. Way to go, Scott!
why the discrimnation sart? you've got an ivy league university in nyc and i never see you up here at columbia!
Many congrats Scott! <3
Can't wait to see you around shooting.
congratulations sart. that is fantastic news and well deserved also.
Sart
Obviously you can't make it everywhere all the time. Maybe you should franchise!

Congratulations and well-deserved. I especially like the way your aesthetic, your look gets carried through to shots that have different editorial purposes. I'm starting to feel like there's such a thing as a "Sartorialist" shot. Good for you and keep up the excellent work.
Congratulations from a mom who lives in Gap jeans and flip flops (but dreams of high heels, swingy coats and colorful tied scarves) and is completely addicted to your blog! You inspire!
Your Lecture was great, and i enjoyed hearing what the panel had to say. i see you are in nyc for the next three months, just one request, can you expand your BIKE section?
Cant wait to flip thr this issue! How amazing. Congrats.
I am going to Columbia also but it doesn't seem like such a trip so i didn't mention it
maybe on Wednesday or thursday
Congrats on the Paris Vogue, you're amazing and truly do have an eye for style, blah blah blah. I actually can't wait for the Ivy League shots so please get some shots of that good old New England prep-school vibe that seems like a myth now. Also, is it possible to do an assignment over in California? You know you want to, and you could use more beachy, laid-back stuff on here. Mmmk bye.
-AM
congrats sart on your accomplishments (vogue cover thats huge!) hope for many more!!!
Phil
Sydney
Another Princeton undergrad and avid fan here - I have all of my fingers crossed for you to come!!
If you come to Yale you must go to the School of Architecture!
c o n g r a t u l a t i o n s [art]! i live in sydney, australia + have to fight the temptation to splurge my savings on paris vogue every month, but this is definately worth it! can't wait to get my paws on this month's issue!
dont forget the all women's colleges. i'm a fan from smith college! there are also distinct student cultures at mt holyoke, amherst, hampshire and umass amherst--all within 30 minutes of each other. hope you'll make a trip to western mass!
Congratulations! Love Milan. Love Paris. Adored your shots of India. Looking forward to some good ol' NYC style.
Thanks so much for sharing your work. It's really a public service!
Franchise!!!Please!
And definitely come to Boston, I will be your guide!
Please please please come to Yale! Okay, so our fashion sense runs more towards North Face and Lacoste than Paris Vogue, but I would love to see what you can pick up from my campus! Plus, it's actually starting to get pretty here on campus...
Where would one go in Princeton if one wished to see you? Palmer Square? Campus? Witherspoon?
There are a lot of great dressers in this town. I want to see you photograph them!
Congratulations,Sart, it's only fair! Thank you for these fashion/human landscapes you keep deploying before us. Pure joy. Take your reward. And thanks to all the people around the globe who have the grace and presence to accept your request or... what is it? That's your secret.
CONGRATS!!
YAY FINALLY! A university edition! Can't wait to see the images you capture!
Congradualations! They look like beautiful pics. Hey...you should come to the University of Virginia, we have a school of architecture and I'm sure that you would find some good shots (especially in the architectural history buidling, boy do they dress up! :)
so is there a Boston trip in the near future???
Love the girl sitting on the foot-path reading the paper. The Vogue Paris cover images are all superb - particularly top right-hand corner.
Congratulations.
come to Harvard!!! (instead of Yale and Princeton)
please please please?
First I would like to say that I love the sartorialist blog...
Regarding the Lara Stone insert of the Vogue series....she is a beautiful women with an amazing outfit...just the style I love....and then the look is ruined by the fact she is smoking a cigarette.
I work in health care and see the emotional and physical destruction it causes on a daily basis. I recognize the millions of health care dollars that are spent treating diseases directly caused or dramatically worsened by smoking.
I feel that smoking should not be glorified and portrayed as anything positive, which this image attempts.
If people smoked less...maybe some of that cash could be spent of something much more productive...say wonderful independent fashion designers? Just a thougt.
Chris.
Oh you are going to my school and I am abroad! Ah well. Go to Yale this year and come back next year as well. Can't wait to see what you turn up..
congratulations!
too bad we don't get paris vogue here
i love the pictures :D
especially of the red heels :D
Some of my fellow graduate students at Princeton can be plenty stylish as well ...
Congratulations! I will buy this issue just for you (and the fact that it is Paris Vogue...). Well earned; you deserved it. Honestly, I'm ecstatic to know that you shot for Paris Vogue. I'm looking forward to seeing even MORE of the Sartorialist in the future.
I just really want to thank you for all your dedication and passion. I'm sure you know this by now, but you're a great inspiration for everyone. And to repeat what someone said earlier- please come to Toronto! Canada loves you too!
These shots, and the cover, are beautiful! Congratulations. I want to find a copy of French Vogue now.
Maybe post some pictures of the preppies at Princeton?
What day are you coming to Yale?
Also, a suggestion: if you come, stay near Cross Campus, not Old Campus. At the former you'll get a cross-section of the population. At the latter, you'll just get freshmen.
Come.To.Boston.
It is no New York, but Back Bay never fails to astound me with its wealth of overlapping styles.
Congratulations on your beautiful cover shots.
3rd Photo: J'adore this girl's shoes. So boyish, elegant, old-fashioned, and modern, all at the same time. Kind of an "elegant punk" kind of thing. I love, love, love it. I wonder if I could ever pull off that look...
I think it's wonderful that someone like you can take street photos and model shoots so equally well. Many congrats on the Vogue Paris article and front page... you and the models did an excellent job. ^^
that is SO exciting! that is a very big step. the cover? oh man. congrats.
congrats! it's very impressive the success you've achieved thus far with your photographs and blog!
few of us here in Israel are wondering how we can get a copy of Vogue Paris...
(it's actually p.p.s. [post-post script])
congrats though!
do come to new haven, my neck of the woods. love to see what you'll find! congrats on your accomplishemnt! love this blog. takes me everywhere i wish i could go.
Come to NOHO (Northampton), MA -!
Congrats on the Vogue Paris cover! So good to see your work being recognised by such iconic magazines, not that you are not being recognised here on this blog; I love your work! Can't wait to see the shots from your Princeton and Yale trips. Aren't students often experimental and daring? I wonder what will yield?
Well done you!!! You're an inspirational....will buy a copy in London!!
Oh COME TO LONDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Fashion Assistant and her Camera
http://www.the-fashion-assistant.blog.com
congratulations! you deserve every bit of it. and thank you for posting.
Ohhh.. you shot MARIACARLA BOSCONO I adoooore that girl, she really is one of the few models with a distinct style of her own.
Thank you.
I'm miffed! I was just doing some research up at Yale :( Congrats on the spread though--all the looks/shots capture a sense of personality, action, and movement which I love! Will peek at the new Paris Vogue at my next Borders tryst.
come to Harvard too! you cant make it to Y/P without seeing the REAL ivy league school
Yes yes YES agreed with anon @ 7.54! Archies at Yale are reflections of their work-- unexpected, inspired, and so fresh.
Congrats, Sart!
Come by Columbia while you're on a college campus kick!
congrats!
coooome to san francisco/berkeley pretttty please!?
check out the architecture schools at both yale and princeton! plenty of people obsessed with cut and form...
Cool, nice work, I love French Vogue! Also, please can you blog a wee bit about Sunday's event?
Please, please come to Princeton. I love your blog and it would be an honour to have you on campus. And it's a beautiful place for photography and you may find some intriguing pretentiously-alternative fashion (mixed with a bit of faux-street artsy NYC). A refreshing sight amidst all the popped collars and pastels.
This is AWESOME! I can't wait to go buy one.....I'm going to DC this weekend...I can't wait to go to the Adamson Gallery!!!
Congrats Sart!! And it all started with a blog....AMAZING!
We can't wait to see you at Princeton! This might not be the best week given that almost half of the student body has a 30 page jr paper or 120 page senior thesis due next week (we're looking a bit haggard now), but there are still some gems hidden across campus. I'd recommend the Woodrow Wilson fountain and small world cafe...
Congratulations on Paris Vogue!!
As a student from Princeton, I'd love to see what you'll be able to capture on campus. Try getting a shot of Prof Cornell West - he's a campus fashion icon. Generally a good time to come would be during houseparties (early may), when you'll see preppiness in its true form.
congratulations !! its amazing to see your progress :D
beautiful paris cover, hands down you are the only one out there we trust with capturing street style.
These pictures are so beautiful. Lara Stone is a vsion.
Congratulations! (Enhorabuena, tus fotografías son buenísimas)
Kisses
I loved the lecture at the Met. Stop by Columbia while you're on a college campus kick!
Big huge congratulations. Your work deserves such recognition. I would much rather look at your blog for fashion insight than what most of the fashion mags normally print.
Your best work so far
Just wanted to say that the met panel was great and thanks for talking to me afterwards about the blog/gallery transition
-big haired kid
I went to get the April Vogue Paris and it did not come with the model supplement(I checked a few places in Boston). Has any one else had this problem?
congrats! the VOGUE paris was sold out in hamburg-now i know why... i am so sad i did not get one!
Congrats to you on this Vogue issue! Incredible, as always!
Congratulations!
Those pages are beautiful.
Congrats! I'll be snapping up a copy!
Congrats, Sart! I bought Paris Vogue, April issue, with Kate Moss on the cover and there was no supplement included. Was this issue polybagged with a supplement? If so, Borders in Columbus Circle screwed up :(
wow !
This is my first post on here, i'm french & i check your blog since few months.
I must say i was happy to receive the supplement with your pictures inside. They are brilliant !!!!! Keep up the good work ;o)
French Vogue is the best.
Fabien (my hero!) + Carine do a great job!
