Comments on "On the Street....Via Montenapoleone, Milano"
I wish I were there!
The gloves, the Macanudo!
I wish we had guys like that in Saskatchewan.
No wonder i'm 37 and still single.
I would have felt that cigar with my bare hands instead of the horrible thick gloves.. Lovely shoes though!
Brown shoes and yellow gloves, it is just as good as it gets!
i love the yellow gloves they add such a nice splash of color to an otherwise neutral toned outfit
its all about the yellow gloves - love it
This gentleman looks as Milanese as one can ever be.
Are those Berlutis? They're gorgeous
This is absolutely beautiful. How beautiful are those colours and textures all mixed together?
Fancy. It's hard to find people like this who put themselves together so well.He looks very warm.
Love the shoes but shouldn't the gloves be a 'little' closer to a brown shade? They look like gardener's gloves.
The little bit of collar and cuff reveal perfectly picks up the pocket silk. His coat makes me wish my topcoat had a breast pocket.
What do the ladies think about the narrow cut on the legs for gentleman this age and height...I'm not sure I could pull it off.
Wooow.Another handsome and stylish gentleman. I know and understand that those yellow gloves are part of the whole look and that they are stylish, yellow and comfy. But they look like he had borrowed them from Mickey Mouse and painted yellow ;-)
holy perfect.
His look is very sophisticated. His trousers are a little narrow for my taste, but he pulls it off. The yellow gloves bring the look together, and I must say, bravo!
so dashing and daring, but am i offbase to say that i don't favor how that coat hangs? lovely lovely colors, but past the pocket square, the jacket takes on a funny shape. like it needs a lining or something..? but i can't imagine that coat doesn't have a lining.
also, his expression makes for a very interesting photo, but i can't imaging myself looking away like that and making a face to get my photo taken. and as the photographer, i'd be "so are you ready then?" perhaps he gets snapped often, and smiling for the camera has gotten old, so he's branching out.
Now why can't my professors be this stylish?
I'll sit in on his philosophy lecture any time. any day.
give's that, "I Dress because I think" feel.
Well, nice try.
Coat too tight; gloves too...too yellow
The individual pieces look fine by themselves, like the lovely shoes. But it doesn't work together on this guy. It's like you picked nice clothes and threw them at him.
Also, the pants are too short and the coat too snug. Maybe one day men will learn to buy clothes that actually fit.
Very sharp!
Per questo raggione, Italia, l'amo. I mean, really. How beautiful is this guy/this shot/this vita?!
I find it so ridiculous when people slag the subjects here for not smiling. Why would one assume it's necessary?? My mom, who was born in Italy, says that when she was growing up, people that smiled and showed their teeth in photos were said to look like donkeys.
With those glove he looks like Mickey Mouse striving for sophistication. The shoes? Very puzzling!
love the gloves!
too tight? are you kidding? it's perfectly fitted. that is what distinguishes italian men...yes, the beautiful, saturated clothing, but more the fact they know how it should fit.
i would've gone for a richer shade of yellow, but he's sexiness makes up for it ;)
Wow-- He looks incredible. This is the style that keeps me reading this page and inspires me in my own life.
I could swear this guy has been posted before. gloves and all. for a second I thought I was in the archives.
ma va! ever since your post with the cute beard man (milan) and the bicycle, I have grown this vast affinity for honey toned gloves. che carino!
The colors are nice, but the slimness of the coat/pants make his head look huge and the gloves are much too bulky for the outfit - too work glovey.
The coat is nicely tailored and I love the fit.
I have to visit Montenapoleone this weekend, when I'm comming to Milano :)
Y like the shape of that gentelman!
Cigar out for me...
S H A R P.
love it. the shoes are gorgeous.
Scarf and gloves much too bulky for what is otherwise a pretty sharp look
One deep breath and he'll pop the buttons in that coat.
those gloves were one of the "must-have-items" for teenagers here in italy. i would have killed to have a pair of those.
in 1985.
"paninari" (if there's someone else from italy above 25 years old surely knows what i'm talking about) used to wear them.
Marcello
Trousers too slim. It is time to enlarge them.
Shoes are Weymouth´s from Crockett & Jones.
Anyone knows which brand are the gloves?
I don't see the gloves as yellow; they look like the tan of a lovely soft but tough deerskin to me, so they also promise a nice contrasting texture.
Eeeuuuuwww too tight again! That coat is ridiculously tight in my opinion and i often think this, don't i on here? What is it with this fasion, or am i right and it's just people hanging on to their former clothes far too long? Eeeeuuuuwww.
Great gloves and shoes though.
Stylish guy! I love the slim fit of the whole ensemble.
The scarf is nice. The coat is nice. But, the scarf is too big for the coat.
I actually love that the gloves look like work gloves-- it is a cool contrast with the rest of the outfit and the cigar he is smoking. To me, it gives a sense of authenticity and genuineness to the outfit.
I would have liked a sleeker fitting glove, but other than that, I totally love this look.
The coat is not too small. It does apear he has several layers on underneath and no doubt the scarf adds bulk. If you've been to Italy in winter you'll see that the Italians have it down to a fine art in the dressing of layers.
Considering that the trend in clothing for men for the past few years have been clothes that were ridiculously huge (the horrible baggy shorts and let us not forget the trend where the pants sagged halfway down the butt)I am loving seeing men with clothes that actually fit.
Pow! Pow! I love the gloves. They're a touch of whimsy on a brown palette. Also... love the silhouette --that coat is fitted well.
its not quite right
the coat is too tight
and those gloves are too distracting, they should be of a more sophisticated yellow.
He looks like he is trying too hard..
I have just been wearing beautiful Italian, bright tan gloves - with black. Felt good to me:)
Perfect, perfect shoes! And those pants, narrow and slightly short as they are, show them off beautifully. Gentleman has oodles of style, he knows and it suits him perfectly.

Beautiful Coat, garment dyed herringbone apparently in cashmere. AMF stiched, vintage effects, sharp.
I like this photo as a portrait, it suggests a novel, his expression recalls Jean-Paul Sartre; something more than fashion is going on here.
Since when does wearing a coat that is two sizes too small qualify one as being well-dressed?
anon 4:54 responding to anon 6:56-
i'm assuming you're referring to my comment, as no one else had mentioned his expression yet. i certainly did not "slag" this man. i was quite complimentary overall, actually.
and i do understand that it is more common for some cultures and generations not to "say cheese" for the camera. but i would venture to say that these days, since it doesn't take 10 minutes to take a picture anymore, it's a universally dominant practice to smile, and this man made a conscience choice not to. as well as to look away from the camera. i thought that was interesting, and i said so.
so maybe it's a litte more ridiculous that you're going on the warpath over this.
and i'm sticking with my theory that the coat is a smidge ill-fitting- mostly, it would seem, because of the type of fabric. it's pulling a little in unflattering places, and revealing the inner pockets. but it's still very handsome, and perhaps even more so in person.
Wonderful shoes !!!
Wow...it's all quite perfect. I love everything here...especially his coat and gloves.
Very cool.
rigger gloves....? C'mon. Coat too tight, bumpy things beneath and the hem has no line.
Of course they're work gloves - that's the throwaway of it. You can buy a pack of 6 pair at Home Depot. No, they don't have the fit of a fine pair of kid or deerskin etc. - nor do they permit the same dexterity, and maybe suggest a little humor. That's OK.
That's the proper length for narrow pantlegs - longer and they end up "ruched." The shoes, beautiful. What could be wrong with those shoes?
But I agree that the coat looks too snug - it's pulling at the buttons. This could be because it's a VERY cold day and he "didn't buy it big enough to wear a sweater under." Or maybe something else. Also the pockets seem full. I don't care, I like the look just fine and don't require perfection.
What makes this outfit is the shoes and the trousers. Not so sure about eh yellow gloves and the not great coat. But maybe it proves that good, clean shoes can make your outfit.
A slim cut is one thing, but I agree with those who find this too tight. The coat buttons are ready to pop, the front edge is all wavy, and the pockets bulge and strain with whatever he put in them. It is such a beautiful garment, it is a shame to see it subjected to that kind of stress. I also agree that the scarf is too big for the otherwise slim look, but obviously it was a cold day. I don't care whether the gloves come from the hardware store or the finest shop in Milan, they are bulky and ill-fitting and the color pops out so calls attention to them. The contrast of the big fat gloves against the little tight coat is most unfortunate. Nice shoes.
Whether he is smiling or not is so irrelevant to a discussion of what he is wearing -- and besides, Sart is in charge of when to shoot and which pictures to put up -- no good photographer takes only one shot; there must have been multiples -- and my guess is he liked the expression on the man's face, as do I. Frankly, I much, much, much prefer candid to posed, smiley-faces that look so fake and arranged for the camera.
It is all about the gloves and the cigar. Everything else is also ran.

ah i see, because if we were to talk about anything other than the clothes -like, say, composition- then we'd be assuming this were about nothing more than fashion. heaven forbid we view the photography as art.
i suppose we should be viewing the outfits on headless mannequins as well. with a cloth backdrop. that way, none of the person's apparant personality or the photographer's artistic choices could taint the discussion.
interesting you added your own opinion to such an irrelevant discussion. so, as long as the subject isn't smiling, it's candid? i thoroughly beg to differ. as long as the subject knows their picture is being taken, their conscious choices that are captured in the picture make it the opposite of candid. and it can be a fascinating cue into the psyche of the subject.
case in point, look back to Jan. 30th. the man in gray certainly isn't smiling, and while he's quite dashing and dramatic, some may consider his glower to be a tad affected (i'm not going to say "fake and arranged"). then there's the delightful man 4 pics up who's beaming. the pic may not be candid in the sense that he's unaware of the camera, but it's completely un-self-conscious, and mr sart captured a moment in time.
i don't think everyone should always smile for the camera. and NOT ONE PERSON who commented on the picture berated this gentleman for not smiling.
funny. some people just read what they want to read.
Calling this a "slim" fit is a euphemism, surely; the coat does not fit. Period.

I think the jacket hangs funny because he's got the ends of his scarf bunched up under it. Oh well. This is a great picture. Very well-dressed guy and I love how the bright gloves add a little splash of color.
Is that seriously a cigar held in deer-skin glove clad hands? I actually find that to be wonderful!
I wore gloves like that on the farm.
the gloves are perfect. enough said.
I like the fit of the coat, and his hankie on his coat.A cigar with gloves on? Very nice! This gentleman just needs a rocks glass with some scotch!!!
