Just My Luck...

With all the great things happening for me lately, fate was bound to soon step in and slap me around.

Friday it rained sideways almost all day, everyone looked miserable, and I ended up getting no shots at all, plus I dropped my blackberry down an elevator shaft. The screen was still lit so I could watch it fall the whole way down - painful.

Saturday was beautiful, i got a lot of great shots but when I got home something happened to the card and all images were corrupted. In those shots was an image of Michael Stipe of REM. I am a huge REM fan so losing that shot really hurt. The fact that he knew about my blog and looks at it occasionally was the only highlight of the day.

So wish me luck today. I know the blog has been a little men's heavy this week but women's collections just started so the mix will even out this week.

Go Giants!!

bad luck about the blackberry... good luck about michael stipe! wow!
it all evens out. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:07 AM) :

If you haven't used the memory card much after finding out it was corrupted, you may be in luck still. Program called "Undelete Plus" does wonders at times, so give your luck a shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:08 AM) :

sorry to hear about your misfortune, sart! ;_;

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM) :

You should try using some photo recovery software on your card as soon as possible. They're actually pretty reliable at getting pictures back

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:14 AM) :

Scott,

Re-format the card in the camera, down load Phototorescue 3 or higher and run the cad through the data rescue, you will not save all the images, but you may save many!

Good Luck!

Everybody please ignore the comment above, if you format your card it will be much harder if not next to impossible to retrieve any pictures... Just take to card to your IT specialist or maybe even a data specialist, they'll know what to do with it and retrieve your precious pictures.

I LOVE, LOVE your blog.
It's really inspiring.
Great pictures.
And what I love about it, everyone is chica at their own right.

so Thank You!
Wish to meet you someday in NY :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:41 AM) :

Oh, I do hope you are able to rescue the photos - esp REM. You must have been SO pleased to get the shot and even better that he is aware of your blog is fantastic.
I'm heading to NYC in another week and am hoping to swing by Danziger Projects.
Keep up the good work - it will all swing back toward productive and pleasant.

Sorry about your bad run.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:00 PM) :

I love when you are heavy on men's. I have dragged my husband to the computer to show him the gorgeous and/or original men's looks here and we went shopping in December and, I have to say, he looks more stylish, original and handsome than he did when we married over 20 years ago!

Keep on keepin' on!

Luck changes. May you be blessed this week.

cheer up¡¡

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:11 PM) :

Sorry to be off topic (I would offer you advice, but my technological knowledge is non existent), but I was wondering if you were coming to London for Fashion Week this season? I see why London isn't attracting the big guns; all our more established labels move to NY as soon as they get some recognition, but what most of the magazines and stores are missing out on anyway is that fresh, unique vibe which London so fantastically represents. So yup I'm just trying to say it would be really cool if you could come for Fashion Week sometime...hope to see you here
p.s and I hope that the rest of New York Fashion Week is a bit more lucky for you

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:26 PM) :

Dear Sart,
sad to hear about your misfortune. Hope this was all of it and that it starts getting better from now on. So far this year has started with so many bad news... wonder what is going on;)
Good luck!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:42 PM) :

I'm so sorry! Hopefully you'll have a really good day sometime soon to make up for it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:44 PM) :

I was going to say the same thing re the data recovery. If you use a mac, I recommend Photorescue Wizard. It's saved me a few times.

I would not reformat first, as Allen suggested. Run the program of your choice, pull off all the files.

Then, run through the images, when you are OK with the files, reformat. I would not re-use the card, they are so cheap you can just buy a new one. In my experience the card is probably going to corrupt again.

In the future - don't fill up the card to the max, cards seem to corrupt more easily when they are packed to the max (again, in my experience, doesn't matter what card or camera I use) so I tend leave quite a lot of space on cards and make sure that put the pictures on my computer at the end of each day...

I hope that helps.

So sorry about the Blackberry! I dropped mine on a concrete parking lot and the trackball actually CAME OUT. I just pushed it back in and luckily, all I needed to do was restart it in order for it to get working again.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:18 PM) :

Ohhhh it sucks!!! If Michael reads this blog then there's a big chance you run into him again ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:25 PM) :

DONT FORMAT!

while you haven't formatted or reshot the info is probably still there. It may still be there if you have formatted it, but more likely to have gone. Formatting erases the memory. Photo rescue is genius, don't worry if your images dont show up on the preview on your mac, mine didn't and it was still ok.

Robert Adams wrote, and I loosely paraphrase, that being a photographer is almost entirely losing the best photo you've ever taken, breaking very expensive equipment and falling over in public. Good luck, hope you get the photos back.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:27 PM) :

Good advices from your friends/fans. Cheer up! Keep my fingers crossed. Main thing is: your blog is good is good is good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:31 PM) :

DONT FORMAT THE CARD!

as long as you haven't formatted or reshot the info should still be on the file. Photorescue is genius, don't worry if the preview shows blank on your mac, mine did but I still got my photos back ok.

GOOD LUCK Amy

I have probably posted this three times in an attempt to get this to work. Am now attempting to see if being anonymous works better. sorry, I'm really not advertising photorescue or anything, just lost some photos recently and still reeling with excitement that I got them back.

I've been looking through your archives, and it's funny to note that once upon a time (which was hardly long ago) each picture you posted received only a couple of comments, whereas now you get dozens and dozens.

And I think I've discovered why you are so successful. It's as simple as this: you are passionate about what you do. It shows in every picture, every caption, every post you make.

And that, in itself, is more inspiring than you can imagine.

Michael Stipe embodies playful and curious androgyny. He is a vocal powerhaus and an elusive style icon.

Love him & REM (especially their early catalogue).

I once asked if I could take his photo when I ran into him by himself, but he said no! So, lucky you for getting a snap of him... even if it didn't work out.

Kinda perfect that. Some moments aren't meant to be solidified in a photo.

Reformatting:

I am staff photographer at a large daily paper, I have run data rescue over about 50 cards as people come in with crashes. It tends to work best after a re-format. The key is not to shoot a single new frame on a crashed card. I have no idea what the instruction booklet will say, but in real, time, that is what has always recovered the most clean data.

If the thought of this makes you nervous, run it before reformatting, and then run it again after reformatting and compare the data that was recovered.

Every crash is different depending on what made the card crash in the first place. It is always a gamble, do you get everything back? Sometimes everything less the one frame that cause the directory to go bad, etc etc. Worse case scenario, all the images look like a kaleidoscope. That is a bad crash.

Once you run it over, and reformat the card, you can 99.99 percent of the time, the card is fine and can be reused, just test it once before shooting another job.

Generally speaking, the card is not what is shot, it is the directory files.

Good luck, hope to see an image from that shoot on the site soon.

No wonder I like your blog so much! I have loved REM for years. The fact that my husband knew and liked the band is the only reason I agreed to go out with him. Hey Sart -

All is not lost! Take it to a pro store, where they'll charge you a bit to recover the photos. That's one option if you're desperate to get the photos back, and fast. If you want to invest in a photo recovery software, that'll work too, and you can do it at home by yourself!

Also, the fantastic fashion here makes my life happy. So many of the girls and guys read your fabulous blog.

I also once dropped my keys down an elevator shaft. After I got over the shock of such odds, I grieved 15 more floors of hearing them drop.

Adore the blog.
