Comments on "At Giorgio Armani, Milan"
How cool is this. Is that a handpainted design on the skirt? And I love the fit of the jacket. This look is comfortable, and classic. I love dressing this way because you can take your best oldish pieces like a scarf or a jacket and pair them with something new. Hoisery and shoes are on point!
stunning mixture of patterns
This woman is just beautiful. I’m a fan of her outfit and the way she is wearing things together that shouldn’t really work, but on her they do! That Persian carpet looking scarf is amazing. Yet, I’ve already seen in this blog a skirt like the one she is wearing. The sartorialist’s top 100 design influences, really shows; I feel I must congratulate you for that.
Besides from the woman, the picture is amazing. I love that sensation of freshness in the morning light and the perspective of the road lined by all those winter trees.
love it!!
Oh my gosh. I love her brocade skirt.
I love that she can make such an out of control mixture of textures and prints looks really elegant, classic almost.
Ahhh.....Balenciaga....i´m in love with those tiny jackets with the printed scarfs .
This lady looks beautiful in her own mix , I almost don't miss the balenciaga pants (my favourite item from that collection).
The shoes are to die for! Anyone know something about them ?
The Jacket is actually J. Crew
Hm, that skirt kind of reminds me of all those structured floral prints of Balenciaga spring '08. In which case the mix is in the seasons. No high-low here.
That's not Balenciaga, I do believe that's the J Crew Lexington jacket that I recently got on sale for $70! But it's a good knock off no? Love how she's styled it with the scarf and brocade skirt.
LOVE THE SHOES! i would not ordinarily think to put all of this together but it really looks great here.
eclectic & fun.
those shoes.... and that wonderful blazer.
oooooh she's smirking cause she knows she's fresh.
what a pleasurable photo, mr. sartorialist. always giving me something to look forward to in my day.
Love the texture on the skirt; brings a nice touch to an otherwise "blending in" ensemble.
lovely mixes!
jacket looks stunningly similar to a j.crew jacket I purchased last fall! love her, she looks great!
Hmm... I wonder. Do you know why all these (ok, not all but the majority) fashionable women and girls are holding their (hand)bags dangling from the elbows' bends? It's so damn uncomfortable an unhealthy. Blood stops to circulate in your arm, etc :). I tried to carry my bags like this. No way. I can carry them only in hand or on my shoulder. The only exceptions are small, evening bags.
I like the lady. I love this gathered-up-full-of-volume silhouette, which lets us, women, have pretty much longer and slimmer legs than in fact they are :). And it gives sort of girlish look.
Wonderful skirt.
Wonderful jacket.
Wonderful scarf.
And this astonishing mix of patterns... Yes. Oh yes, let's mix!
absolutely lovely :) i love the texture and colour of the skirt... i believe it's what makes the whole entire look so interesting and pleasant... magnifique!
What a great mix of pattern broken up with the black jacket, tights and shoes!
I'm not sure why I'm more inclined to compliment her on her hair than on her clothing choices. It is really quite beautiful!
the shoes are chanel...
the jacket looks j crew
the 'lady' is a market editor for teen vogue...
;-)
Wow, she's very beautiful and looks confident and comfortable in her own skin.
Not only doe she have on THE jacket but her shoes are to die for!
Now that's more like it.
This looks a bit like the lovely skirt that you showed on a woman a while back- it inspired a piece you made for your daughter, no?
Actually, the blazer is J.crew. I own it.
The shoes are Chanel. I was about to buy them but chose a pair of Louboutins over them because, at the time, Neiman Marcus didn't have the grey patent pair that I wanted.
So weird. But this is such an interesting pairing, the jacket with the skirt. I feel inspired to try something like this, perhaps tomorrow.
I f that jacket isn't from J.Crew, then their Lexington model knockoff is tremendous.

probably the outfit/overall look I love the most for a long time - there's something so uplifting about it - the sunshine probably helps. I totally agree with anon at 6.41 - to mix it up that much and look fresh and classic is genius. and the voluminous skirt with the slightly boxy jacket - somehow doesn't make her look chunky. also the length of the skirt is spot on, and the bare- as in very little make up - face adds freshness and delicacy to the whole 'thing'. In fact, I think any obvious make up would have made the whole look to baroque and ruined it. To use the controversial word du jour, for me this whole thing goes 'pop'!
The Balenciaga jacket is, for lack of a better word, utterly and completely beautiful. Chic and very classic at the same time, the brocade beneath it and the patterned scarf above it finish a look that is so timelessly elegant. I perhaps would have worn a different colored bag and another pair of shoes, but her bright smile seems to bring this full-circle even with its small faults.
To the first commenter:
It's a Miu Miu skirt from last year or the year before, if I'm not mistaken.
I like her jacket and her scarf. She carries a busy outfit like that well.
Gorgeous ! I love the mix and her smile
her shoes are chanel...i love the mui mui skirt with the balenciaga scarf..its hard to pair to bold prints together but she did a really good job!
the shoes are CHANEL
She's lovely. The jacket is fabulous.
Her smile is beautiful too!
I love her jacket!
Sart,
Isn't her skirt like the one your daughter was wearing in a picture with the denim jacket and the pink scarf? This is just an adult version of that.
It seems that you have a trend setter in the making at home!
I wonder what brand the skirt actually is. For it's a great piece. I love the way she has put this look together. And it doesn't look "put together". So remarkably effortless. I am a sucker for good brocade. Is she really with teen Vogue? She is lovely!
This is wonderfully pulled together, and that skirt is so cool. I like it because it's not like she so carefully planned this that it screams matchy matchy. Her confidence is the thing that pulls the look together.
They had this same Balenciaga/J.Crew debate a while back on parkavenuepeerage over Nina Garcia, who also looked fabulous.
Definitely the JCrew Lexington from last fall (mine is draped over my desk chair even as we speak).
Love that skirt!
this makes me so nostalgic for the fw06-07 Miu Miu show! bravo to this woman for rocking this skirt seasons later
that skirt is KILLER.
I just love this from neck down, but I'm not going to lie the sunglasses ruin it for me- they remind me of my suburbian cousins...
but the scarf is so fresh, and amazing, amazing shoes
this outfit truly inspires me. she looks amazing. i don't have ANY of these exact pieces but i think i could create a similar look - between my closet and my roommate's.
love the mix of styles and patterns.
the shoes rock!
Impressive. Questa signorina sa come vestire. Complimenti.
Classy...I love everything about this ensemble, especially her skirt + scarf! The patterns work very well together. Also, that's a really great jacket, it brings the whole outfit together. It looks like she just popped out of a runway show or magazine and onto the streets.
She looks great. Happy, chic, but -- in the hair, face, and glasses -- familiar and relate-able. I think one important thing that defines good style is the impression that we all could, and might, look that good if we wanted to. She nails this.
One thing to consider, Sarty, in that spirit. I know that it's been said at this point over and over, but how about featuring some slightly rounder women in your images once and a while. There are women out there who are size 4-12 (stiller smaller than average in America) who would like to be encouraged and inspired by the women you photograph. I'm a size 10 -- not outside of the realm of fashion, size-wise -- and I would love to see a few photos that look more like me. How can I wear some of these kinds of fantastic looks?
How about finding a little fashion inspiration for those of us who love great design but might need a little more encouragement? Some real-size mentors! I have always appreciated your age-inclusiveness. Mature women are incredibly stylish -- now think about how the supple forms and rosy cheeks of a bigger woman could really enhance a great look! Nobody dresses like an Icelandic girl, for example, and they're never petite
You could be part of a major paradigm shift in the world's ideas of style.
sorry kinda reminds me of lohan
On a whole, the look is a little contrived. I'd like to see better hair, pulled back, maybe? Just not so "done." Those sunglasses are so over. And I am so over that Prada/ Miu Miu brocade look. This girl is too young for that skirt. I would have liked to see her in something softer. The blouse looks kind of interesting.
Thoughts?
I love everything about this look. She looks so good!
Black tights are supposedly on their way out but they really do give legs a a strong silhouette that is very flattering.
mix of prints seamlessly comes together, love this one!
xK
very fashionable, yes, but don't girls know how to walk with their legs closer together any more?
I love this. The scarf is beautiful.
We still can see some Balenciaga's Palestinas!
I love it all. I want it all.
it's really refreshing to me to see a woman with long, silky hair. so many girls are too busy whacking it off to notice how beautiful it already is! brava to you and your beautiful tapestry skirt!
Her sunglasses are some Tom Ford one, aren't they ? They re great !
I think that if this gorgeous woman was in L.A or something, she would probably be mistaken for a star! :)
Is it Teen Vogue or is it Sylvia Soto-Ward (that is her name, right?) I have seen her photographed in that jacket a lot, and it kind of looks like her.
Pata - they are Chanel
Absolutely love the scarf! Boho chic!!!
good idea, however, it just does not work on her.
one would think this amazing mess of layers and colours and textures would never look near good, but.....it DOES!!!
goes to show, never say never.....;-)
The myriad of patterns work unexpectedly well. I likie.
