i dont see what's so special about these two. very plain and boring. and brown bag with black shoes. hell to the no.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:17 AM) :

Absolutely stunning!

Blogger Butch said ... (10:02 AM) :

The very definition of the haute bourgeoise couple out for a stroll!

Check out his pants length and weep with pleasure.....

Blogger The Spicers said ... (10:28 AM) :

This couple perfectly refutes the assumption that youth=style, and one must get frumpier as one ages (at least in the U.S.) I'm just happy when I see an elderly couple at the mall NOT wearing pastel track suits or elastic waist pants and white sneakers!

Bella fortuna out for a stroll.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:16 AM) :

Another great idea for a show, Sart - chic couples with great style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

He looks fantastic, i wish my father would dress like this, she looks dull, there's no energy to her outfit.

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (12:04 PM) :

I love this photo, Sart. This is a lovely couple: elegant, distinguished, unobtrusive, with a pinch of chic. There is something dignified about them; dignity is something one rarely sees today. I particularly like the gentleman's coat and scarf. Sweet.

8:55 anonymous - you don't seem to have much of an eye for detail, do you? And what's wrong with a brown bag with black shoes? Is the fashion police coming to get her?
IMO, a great picture of an elegant (in an understated way) couple!

Part of the fun of these pictures (for me) is making up a story about the subject(s). Is this husband and wife? If so, he looks like George C Scott and in his youth he was so attractive she had to watch him like a hawk.

Brother and sister? She was gonna marry a Sergeant from the 82nd Abn Div and he put the kibosh on it. She's resented him and and loved Americans ever since.

Are they widowed lovers? Then they just rolled outta bed and are on their way to a bottle of wine and lunch.

What a sophisticated pair, and I say brown bag with black shoes, why the hell not? The brown bag, the color combo of the man's pants, shoes, coat and scarf, her hat and scarf, glasses and earrings, all these things make this NOT plain or boring. They look perfectly stylish and chic, and at the same time cozy, warm, and comfortable. 99% better than most people I see on the street.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:55 PM) :

breathtakingly elegant - I want to look this refined at that age!

Blogger J.P. said ... (2:40 PM) :

They look lovely.

to anonymous 8.55am -

what's wrong about plain and simple? for many that already is hard to achieve.
plain and simple can leave room for elegance. as for those two. their outfit just whispers grace and dignity.

In response to Laguna Beach Trad's comment about the absence of dignity today. What? Dignity has always existed and will always exist. I don;t know if dignity has disappeared in your little enclave nut it's alive and well everywhere else in the world. Yes, there is a world outside the states afterall.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:42 PM) :

I think they are wonderful. So chic, so smart

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:14 PM) :

At first glance I liked this, but on closer inspection (after fiddling with the angle of the computer screen), I must say I am In Awe.

Her hat is so beautifully quiet, as is her scarf and coat combination. His coat with with brown stitching is lovely. The scarf and trousers compliment one another very well indeed.

Sublime clothing and beautiful faces. The sartorialist master class is now in session!

I adore this couple. I home Mr. Pepper and I look like that in a few (very short) years.

To get well dressed is an effort. Sometimes it takes all I have not to show up at my daughter school at 8-am looking like so many moms... that just step out of bed with sneakers and a coat. I refuse to let my looks go. This couple is remarkable, they both look adorable, well groomed and comfortable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 PM) :

They are a more conservative version of my parents!
So cute...they look like they have fun dressing up, her handbag matches his shoes, love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:19 PM) :

Look at her scarf! Is that not the biggest you've ever seen? Certainly makes this an unique look imho.

Blogger MELI. said ... (1:59 AM) :

this could be the cousin/brother of that handsome man you pictured with the red leather portfolio+scarf and the gorgeous bike, he is my ultimate favorite, this picture looks very local italian. nice

anonymous 10:17 -
i didn't notice before that her bag matches his shoes - it's true. so thoughtful - i love subtile matching details on couples.

Blogger alexpolina said ... (10:02 AM) :

i love this couple.they are fashionable and fresh. it is so nice to see people not dressing a ceratin way for their age. i think this would look good on any age but in a different way.

Blogger Diana said ... (10:22 AM) :

Black is beautiful, but sometimes (especially when you are not forever young) you have to be careful around your face.
The gentleman with the nice gray hair is very good looking.
The lady is very mumie-like. too much black. Imagine her with a nice gray do and without sunglasses.
It would be much better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:13 PM) :

I love to see older couples dressing nice just to got out for a stroll. They have a very chic atmosphere about them. Wish my grandparents (even my parents!) dressed this well. Though, I'm not for head-to-toe black everyday.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:27 AM) :

Their message: establishment. Period.

Blogger Heinrich said ... (11:50 AM) :

I am always amazed when people shriek at the pairing of brown and black. How arrogant to fault the Creator in his choice of colours for the Rottweiler. Would you outraged fashionistas prefer Rotties to come in black and blue or perhaps brown and pink?

Blogger doanything24 said ... (1:03 PM) :

classic and refined!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:03 PM) :

Interesting what people see. Neither of them are wearing head-to-toe black, yet someone says they are. Her brown bag does not match his shoes, yet someone says they do. (Her bag is like a milk chocolate brown, his shoes are more of an oxblood, no?) Anyway... I can say for certain that it's far and few between that I see an older couple looking so current and chic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 AM) :

stunningly simple. elegant. I don't think white hair counts as an acessory, but it just works SO well as a contrast to all the black.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:26 PM) :

Overall impression is good.even, very good.
Specifically though? I find the use of the color black to be too much of it.
The man is very handsome for his age, and his silver hair is thick: could be made use of better by use of the color white and gray, instead of the colors black and brown; his body-colors do not include any browns, and it is a hard color to wear for a lot of people anyway. Am not a fan of brown.
Were they to be dressed in grays with touches of oyster-white boots in nubuck leather accessories, would be far more attractive.;-)
