On the Street...The Dark Night, Milan

I know...it's a play on words.

Club kid 1992...

and the point is?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:39 PM) :

love it! Light is just perfect!

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (7:53 PM) :

A little Velvet Goldmine / Misshapes...but still kinda cool. Truthfully, I think more men should wear eyeliner / kohl. On the right guy it can be dramatic in a good way.

Blogger Super Milk-Chan said ... (8:00 PM) :

I think he's stellar.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:01 PM) :

The brown, lilac, and hint of mossy green are an inspiring color combination that would seem more appropriate for easter. However, here the color combination is made dark and edgy. (P.S. I wish I could wear eye liner like that)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:09 PM) :

I like it. What I especially like is that he plays with gender with his eye makeup, hat, and clavicle cleavage (if you will). He comes off as masculine despite the "feminine" touches. And people say you don't highlight men who play with gendered clothing, Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 PM) :

I want to see what his bottom half looked like. Skinny jeans? Oxfords?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 PM) :

wow....kool dude...
not everyone can pull out that look..
his one of a kind..kool..

kepp it up...

Blogger jennifer said ... (8:57 PM) :

Love his pink/purple hat. And the eyes on the man on the t-shirt is equal to the real person.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:58 PM) :

I think...I may be...in love. The eye makeup especially is perfect! And that hat!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:10 PM) :

So vastly different from the boys of my hometown (smalltown Ontario), clad identically in enormous hooded sweatshirts and dangerously low embellished jeans. Reminds me of why I adore the diversity of my new home, Montreal. This boy is beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:15 PM) :

Love how the clavicle sets of the flimsiness of the t-shirt at the same time as the angular shapes of his face and jacket collar. Light is perfect--as if the reflections in the background are mirrored on his face and chest.

fantastic colours--lilac, minty green, yellow, blue-green played off the darkness of his hair, eyes and jacket.

over all cooooooool.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:16 PM) :

Although this look might be considered 'typical' by some, I think you have to pay attention to the little details in this picture. I mean, the fit of his shirt, the colors he uses, and the attitude with which he pulls this off really make this better than the average joe's streetwear.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 PM) :

No, it's "guy-liner".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:33 PM) :

that T shirt, and he matches his lipstick to his mauve trilby...MAUVE TRILBY!!! never mind the kohl, the kid has style and taste. Lovin'it Sart.

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (9:50 PM) :

the eyes speak - i think - almost tell a story.

you've quite captured this man ..
and the colors are incredible.

whatever you do - you do it well.

bravo :-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 PM) :

I know a lot of people are going to cry 'hipster!'

But I say he's smoldering with youth, sex and i-don't-care-what-you-think panache.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:16 PM) :

I love how the light makes the white of his eye a light lilac color...

I wish there were people that looked like him where I live. Let's see more makeup on men please!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:21 PM) :

dear mr. sartorialist,

i like it when you photograph the whole outfit.

ryan.
from toronto

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 PM) :

Lora dear, let me explain something to you.

club kid 1992= club kid 2008

The point is and always will be: sex, youth, late nights, bright lights and more than likely, drugs

(not to assume anything about this young man, who knows maybe he's clean as a whistle?)

Anyways, Lora, there is no 'point' to fashion. That's what makes it fashion, isn't it? :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:26 PM) :

oh my god THANK YOU! i love this!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 PM) :

i like his intensity... beautiful colours. nice pink lips! i enjoy this look very much... especially because of the colours (not too much, very well played). it wouldn't have as been interesting otherwise...

he reminds me of patrick wolf a little...

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (11:39 PM) :

Dark and Brooding.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 AM) :

A stunning and intriguing portrait.

I'm always impressed with very young people who favour a retro look from an era that predates their consciousness. Where did he get the ideas? Why does he prefer this look to more modern clothes? Does he look like this every day or is this a fancy dress' occasion?

There's only a drapey keffiya and a single dangling earring wanting to complete this handsome young chap's rendition of the year 1988 (give or take season). But I wonder what he's wearing on bottom. Is he hardcore enough to rock the paperbag waist jeans, slouchy socks and chunky creepers that complete the period costume?

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (12:38 AM) :

Nice photo, Sart. But is this supposed to be daring, cutting-edge, or something? We have seen this a million times before. Unremarkable.

Blogger Kristina Uriegas-Reyes said ... (12:48 AM) :

This is a great picture. For a second, I thought I was looking at the Face Hunter blog I also have bookmarked. This is certainly a different look captured by the Satorialist. Usually the photos tend to lean toward a classic look done well or with a twist and usually in the daylight. Still wonderful though.

Blogger Julia said ... (12:59 AM) :

The way he's looking into the camera is amazing and intense.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:00 AM) :

ziggy. iggy. lou. whatever. love it. amazing emotion. love the lilac hat and his lips.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:05 AM) :

I might have been oblivious to this before, but lately your photographs seem to just take off to another level of artistic expression. I LOVE IT! It makes me happy to see something like this photo every couple of days. Like getting a present. I'm sure Pitti Uomo is a big reason, but it feels like Christmas. Thank you!

That being said this beautiful creature is getting a triple A+ for the way he wears the hat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 AM) :

Hear, hear... more men should wear makeup. Especially black eyeliner, very sexy! Brilliant photo!

Blogger g.lock said ... (1:30 AM) :

this guy looks like he's trying too hard... to be a fashionista it takes effort, but not force.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:40 AM) :

Fantastic! He's doing Pete Doherty better than Pete Doherty does Pete Doherty. What a freaking t-shirt!

Energie

Blogger Bonnie said ... (1:48 AM) :

i got your blog from post magazine in hk. i was hoping i would see pictures of hk people here but i see none!!!! :(
anyway i think your photography is great, and a wonderful selection of fashion and individuals around the world....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 AM) :

do his eyes naturally match his hat, is it a reflection or it's photoshopped? really stunning. i never thought much of flamers, til now...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:43 AM) :

wow just a great look ...i think he comes directly from the catwalk

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:38 AM) :

Oooh just beautiful... Smouldering & intense. Perfect mix of colours & textures. Like a visual poem - I could look at this picture for hours.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:39 AM) :

congratulations, one of your best shots yet.
the light is perfect, mesmerizing!

Blogger starbahks said ... (3:42 AM) :

he totally looks like the Joker character from the real Dark Knight. (with all due respect)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:00 AM) :

That face, the proportions - so Italian! Beautiful!

Blogger BSK said ... (5:15 AM) :

apt pun/title since the guy looks like The Joker

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 AM) :

This guy's name is Matt Holloway? Matt something...He used to be a male model, did some shows but I think he does styling now or something. I'm really not sure but if it's him he's originally from Vancouver.

Blogger Ellen´L said ... (5:59 AM) :

Great look and great picture!
Love it.

Blogger biglakestyle said ... (6:29 AM) :

Whenever I see a young man like this I first think, "I wonder what his reference points were". In many instances, it's all about some indie movie character and this is ok since young men read little; in the worst case, it's a TV show; this look is cool for many reasons but, for me, mostly about the trilby and the counterpoint with the face and colors in the shirt; beats cargos and athletic shirt any day of the week; bravo

Blogger missdelite said ... (6:29 AM) :

Never thought I'd find a fella in guyliner attractive,but....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 AM) :

Alright, so he grabs your attention in a way that only that very fridge look can. The T works well with the dark brooding look, fallen-angelesque. Jury's still out on the hat but the colour on his lips completes the look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:35 AM) :

He looks interesting, not at all for the look, but for the combination and for his lovely face...

Love him

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (7:44 AM) :

Amazing photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:02 AM) :

This is seriously sexy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:04 AM) :

Such a handsome young man! He plays up the angularity of his face very well with his collar, hat, makeup. Very good that the right photographer came along to capture it!

Blogger Sam said ... (9:15 AM) :

He looks like he takes himself way too seriously.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:39 AM) :

Once again we have LBT casting a dark and negative shadow. Sweet Jesus!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:50 AM) :

Mctickle are you related to Laguna Bitch Trad?

Blogger Karina Cifuentes said ... (12:37 PM) :

Beautiful, beautiful boy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:50 PM) :

For me, this ensemble is about that perfectly wonderful hat, without which the color combinations would be less than inspiring, though still quite pleasing.

And it helps, of course, that he's tremendously attractive.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:07 PM) :

coool!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 PM) :

His name's Tyler Riggs and he's with Red/agency. hot!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:38 PM) :

WOWZY, WOW! WOW!

Blogger Amy said ... (2:12 PM) :

I love this guy's look as well as they shot you took. The colours are really beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:17 PM) :

His name is Tyler. He's a model from Florida, with Red Models in NY. He does look very cool.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:21 PM) :

did james seriously say flamer??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:04 PM) :

I LOVE this photo - he is beautiful, and the light and colours are just stunning... I agree this must be one of your best

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:19 PM) :

I adore a man an eyeliner!

Especially if he can really pull it off like this one.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:04 PM) :

Sorry Anonymous @ 10:22 p.m.-

This isn't fashion, in the sense that fashion is something original/unexpected/startling. This is boring and, I agree, way too self-concious.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:11 PM) :

1992?
you mean 1982!!!!!
this is so retro 80s

mctickle, this guy is wearing eyeliner, is he a "real man"?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:16 PM) :

Great. The color of the hat and the green in the t-shirt. The face on the t-shirt matching the guy's face. Nothing like a good photograph to give us a new start.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:01 PM) :

Oh mctickle, have you no sense of drama?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:15 PM) :

helllooo culture club

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:09 PM) :

I love how you framed this picture sart! He screams youth and night and wild and city streets. The color combination is great and the eyeliner is just right on him. I also wish I could pull it off, tried once... big mistake.

Keep up the good job.

xoxo,

r

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 AM) :

I'm in love, he looks fabulous.

Blogger Bella07 said ... (2:59 AM) :

reminds me of a clockwork orange meets sesame street mixture. scary ..yet somewhat appealing.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:01 AM) :

He is amazing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 AM) :

Lovely picture, colours, lights! His face resembles the one on his tee. Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:58 PM) :

so beautiful
great look, good make-up, nice light.

Not one of your usual photos, yet very good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:02 PM) :

me no like

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:13 PM) :

STOP! using the word "hipster"

We DON'T use that word in Europe. You are what you are ... We don't label people like you do in the U.S!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:23 PM) :

He is Self conscious and GORGEOUS.
Who the hell cares if he is a "real man"?
People...
To me he is being himself, and his cute little self is Hot, punto.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 AM) :

I think he wears this "look"well. I enjoy seeing people who have fun dressing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:52 PM) :

He looks amazing! The look, the night photo- both amazing! Love your work Sart!

Blogger cami falcão said ... (9:47 AM) :

Nan Goldin, i like it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 PM) :

I think he is a model-Tyler Riggs?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 AM) :

crap! i thought electro-clash was over. oh well, maybe next year.

Blogger hoi polloi said ... (12:01 PM) :

Pet shop boy?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:45 PM) :

i'm from ontario as well, but i don't think i've ever heard of "smalltown" before. there are still an over abundance of men of all ages wearing thug jeans and hoodies, but there are quite a few men that play the gender game such as this young man. i can't say that i find either style very flattering. eyeliner on men is just tacky.

Blogger Karmander said ... (5:45 PM) :

I know everyone goes straight to the hat, but this look is all about that incredibly casual brown jacket. Seriously, think about it. The common "hipster" (I appologize to offended europeans but i need it to serve a point) would go for a black jacket, maybe leather...not this blue collar working man's jacket. He is really capitalizing on what he's got to show and he's just a little irresistable for it. BTW, I love androgeony and this is why.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:24 PM) :

Oh. A Boy-George-Look-alike-contest!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:12 AM) :

Very edgy, although the shirt could have been snappier. Very cute face.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:47 AM) :

I love the colours arrangement... So cool for a man to dare with taste.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:14 AM) :

Men are the ones who should wear kohl. Its really sexy (and very dramatic)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:52 PM) :

his name is tyler riggs :)

Anonymous Ljerka-Susanna-Lukic said ... (11:49 AM) :
