I can see some beauty in every other photo you've posted but this.... this is a truly hideous outfit.
La Rue de l'Universite non? Fab style - love the Peruvian/oriental/explorateuse/Scots(?) style going on; a really splendid melange. Dare I say that a more congenenial background than the gum spattered trottoirs of la rive gauche would have made for an even more striking picture? How wonderful if you could have enticed this lady into (e.g.) the Musee de la Chasse et de la Nature where her multicultural Indiana Jones-couture style would have been right at home!

Maybe it's just the way the scarf is draped in this photo, but it positively truncates her. AND SHE'S GORGEOUS. Why anyone would want to wander around Paris looking like a hobit is beyond me. But, honestly, besides the egregiously awful scarf, c'est magnifique! The silky texture of those green pants with the grey sock and hardwared shoes, the length of the coat, the two blue bags--it's all really beautifully textured and nuanced. I love the hat.
Now, wrap the scarf, please.

Oh my. I get the sense that when she was getting dressed this morning she was determined to include all of her favorite pieces in one ensemble. Two bags, perhaps two scarves, her beloved hat, and appropriately quirky designer pants and shoes. And yet I wish I could pull off just this type of designer-tinged nonchalant look myself.
I'm feeling some kind of Argentinian gaucho type vibe here - which is a rather lovely thing to find on the streets of Paris.
Ok maybe a gaucho wouldn't wear funny shoes like that. But the scarf is awesome...

It's a little like she just came back from a trip around the world (or the Americas, anyway) and is now a visible journal ... but we're seeing that kind of "Victorian/Edwardian/aesthete/explorer" thing in some of the new menswear lines, too - is it a revival? A look back 100 years?
Wow. Did I read this outfit all wrong. From the small photo I thought she was wearing some sort of weird embroidered chaps --a la Buffalo Bill! I guess it was the hat that made me think in this direction.
Once again, a character one could build a story on. This one lives in Texas, and desperately wants to go to Paris.

This is great. Personality, style, verve and finesse! So many strong elements, but the rich colors and textures blend together very nicely.

This pains me. She is wearing $4,000 (or is it $2,000?) Balenciaga sandals and jodhpurs yet she makes them look so.. not chic. Next time you see these shoes PLEASE take up close pictures of them.
yes, i think this look is cluttered and awful. if those weren't obviously designer pieces, would any of you still like her outfit? each item is nice, but wearing 15 attention-grabbing items together never looks good.
I was listening to folk music (Thao With The Get Down Stay Down, to be exact)when I opened the page. I thought how ironic it would be if their was someone dressed folksy on the page. My first thought when I saw this one, with blurred eyes, was "cowgirl". She's brave to do that in Paris.

hey - i just want to remind all of us that some of the people on the pics will come and read the comments that we write about them. they were super nice to let sart take pictures of them, so it's not super cool when they read negative comments that don't have so much to do with style, like the comment about the girl not smiling etc, i found it a little borderline, and it really did not have much to do with a sartorialist comment. my comment is not sartorialist either, but i got a little tired of people forgetting that the subjects on the pics are willing to be exposed. this takes (a little) courage, so don't be so ruthless.

It is too bad that the comments made are mostly about" fixing her up", changing this or that...it is, after all, a moment recorded.
Who are we to change her, she's alright and, I have to say, a refreshing change from American mall style or studied hipsters or clueless suburbanites from the hinterland. Like a breath of damp, cool, Gauloise scented air blowing in from the Pampas or the rue de Saint Pere.

i also cannot figure out if i like or dislike this look but noticed upon further inspection that more of it matched than i initially thought: the hat to the fringe of the scarf, the socks to the second scarf wrapped tightly around her neck, the pants and bags to the embroidery of the scarf... i know one thing for sure, i absolutely love those pants especially against the black and grey at the ankles.
I like all the pieces of this outfit except the bag and shoes. However, the scarf while lovely is too big for the rest. There's nothing wrong with trying for the cowgirl look in Paris. Try again love. There's no rule that you have to smile for the photographer either.

This looks makes no sense to me.
Young, bold, sophisticated, and taking control of fashion. No designer put that together -- she owns this look.
And let's speculate how she did it -- got up in the morning and decided she really wanted to wear those pants. That color suggested the scarf. Hmmm, there's a little blue in the scarf, so, maybe the turtleneck; no, too much -- cover it with a white shirt to knock it back a little; fine, just at the neck. Then, oh, yeah, the blue socks, cool. Then, let's see the black coat will be fine and that means these fabulous shoes will work; just heavy enough to balance the pants legs. Now what, too drab; yes, punch up that blue again with the bag, no the two bags. And it's cold; where's that hat ... there, just right with the fringe; it works.
Personally I'm a paid-up member of the "less is not more, less is just less" school of dressing, but I can't concentrate on the outfit at all as she looks to me as if she's about to burst into tears at any moment and it's making her look little-girl-lost under all those heaps of clothes. I really do hope she didn't actually feel as sad as she looked right at that moment...
I think this look is tremendously well put together, and the thing that is making it appear cluttered is the small cross-body bag. If she took that off, it'd be really good.

It's been two months since this photo was posted and I still find myself coming back to it in order to be re-inspired by this girl....and I'm a guy....it's that good. Some people may say that it's a little too much, but that's the romance of it. Some people that have the freedom to dress how they like everyday need to continually inspire themselves, and she and I seem to share this. Just seeing someone in an ensemble like this says so much about the person, and one of the things it says to me is that she doesn't care what people may think about her outfit, she is dressing for HERSELF. And not everyone has to smile, maybe she doesn't feel like it. I know if I passed her on the street I would be blown away.
