And that face! And her fabulous hair! Beautiful. (The coat, too.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 AM) :

LOVE THAT COAT! I feel only a few people could wear this and look as great as her. I certaintly couldn't, no matter how much I would like to!

Blogger MARIA H said ... (8:56 AM) :

At last! Some style of my liking.
Great look: proportions, silhouette, attitude, all pieces as set considered.
Very avant-garde and relaxed, excellent balance. She looks at peace.

Blogger sammy wammy said ... (9:00 AM) :

the coat's really nice but I especially like how the soft shape and texture of the multi-tonal coat juxtaposes with the tougher, dark and close sillouette of the boots, jeans, gloves and esp her hair.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 AM) :

great oversized look. its sorta architecture meets fashion. after all, were all done with skinny shapes, right?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:16 AM) :

What an interesting item.
I'm not even sure whether I completely understand what's going on in there.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 AM) :

coooooooooooool!! yet looks s0 warm!!

very japanese!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:42 AM) :

Fantastic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:52 AM) :

oh god.
gorgeous!

sarty, this is the kind of inspiration i need. thank you so much.

(:

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:52 AM) :

This is unreal, verging on too perfect but not, just superb. best look in a while.

Blogger Alice said ... (10:19 AM) :

ammmmzing coat! who made it?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM) :

This looks so cosy and warm!I like it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:32 AM) :

Oh my! I am impressed.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

what a stellar coat!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:43 AM) :

Who is the designer for the coat?

So very practical and beautiful.
I always have a difficult time bundling up without looking like a snowman. She looks very warm and very chic.

Blogger Gratistotal said ... (10:47 AM) :

ohhhhh this is THE COAT, certainly!!

Blogger Valerie said ... (10:54 AM) :

The two-tone coat and the gloves with the delicate chains -- ace.

Blogger Mr. Badami said ... (10:55 AM) :

c'est quoi 'LES'?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 AM) :

I'm loving the proportions. And the shine of the shoes adds great texture to the outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 AM) :

will some of your prints be available for sale at the danziger?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 AM) :

its andrea again, right?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 AM) :

Blogger Suzanna Mars said ... (11:24 AM) :

Darling! But I'm afraid he'll be beaten up on the playground.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 AM) :

fab.

Blogger Luiza Sauma said ... (11:41 AM) :

Ooh wow. That's my kinda coat.

Blogger Jingoist said ... (11:41 AM) :

I cannot tell if it's a parka with a scarf budding out of the top, or if there is a hood component or what, but it fascinates me. The layering is so perfectly imperfect.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (11:46 AM) :

The coat looks so confortable and warm! I love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:50 AM) :

I love the shape of this coat!! It has a lot of volume but it doesn't look bulky! Now, is the collar/hood a scarf or part of the coat?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:55 AM) :

ohhh maaaaan.....!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 PM) :

That coat is gorgeous. I love the volume. Her boots neat, too.

Blogger jessica said ... (12:22 PM) :

fantastic!! love it.

Blogger wilsonreps said ... (12:22 PM) :

wow. the layers are ill! that's right down the street from alife on rivington right?

Blogger Luciernaka said ... (12:24 PM) :

Beautiful. Other worldly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 PM) :

that sillouhette! truly amazing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:30 PM) :

Love it. I don't think it's too overwhelming.

Blogger Yi Lian said ... (12:35 PM) :

Wow! Did she say where the coat's from?
It's a piece of art.

Blogger steevay said ... (12:38 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:53 PM) :

that's fantastic-it's like a scarf that's grown and grown until it becomes conscious and realizes it would be more helpful as a coat. also it can talk.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 PM) :

What a show stopper of a coat! Right out of a sci-fi movie... She can pull it off with her grand stature. Cocoon like, yet supple looking... I'm quite jealous.

Blogger Mervis said ... (1:51 PM) :

love the coat. love the hair. would've loved to see a sexier shoe - a colored flat, a boot, a heel... she's elegant until she's stumpy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:57 PM) :

That jacket looks Icelandic.

Blogger tats said ... (1:59 PM) :

Andrea! Of course. Beautiful!

Blogger Lee Stuart said ... (2:03 PM) :

what an eyecatcher, wow!

i love the hood with her short hair. interesting silhouet with the skinny jeans and boots

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:12 PM) :

She looks so pretty. It really looks nice when someone can carry this oversized look. But in this picture it's her face that drew my attention. She is just too pretty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:23 PM) :

wow. babe. love.

p.s. does one just buy a coat like that?

Blogger wideyed said ... (2:25 PM) :

I adore the perfect detail in the gathered hood.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:26 PM) :

Quirky, edgy and strangely sexy! Love it!

Blogger ruth said ... (2:46 PM) :

Wow! What a fabulous coat. I love how it simultaneously manages to be puffy and drapey!
It looks very cool worn with simple black pants and flat boots. I also love the gloves.
Great shot!

Blogger Chloe chloe chloe said ... (2:53 PM) :

That coat is amaaaaaaaazing! What is it?

Blogger rosemary x said ... (3:00 PM) :

oh yes it is lovely isn't it!?

i'm so excited by new shapes and i love the fullness of this. perfect with the skinny jeans. yum.

...and it looks so warm!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:01 PM) :

i love how aside from the brick in the background, this image is almost entirely black and white. the graf. on the wall, the grey sky,the look. clearly the coat speaks for itself. amazing, cool, downtown chic. only wish i knew where i could get one for myself.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

Wow! love that coat - who's it by? i find the white T peeking out a little distracting and i think it could use some black shades. Glad she's not carrying a bag....

Blogger dean said ... (3:24 PM) :

I like the idea of how it would feel to wear this outside; sort of like meandering with a duvet bound to your back.

I have to say, I'd like to embrace the egg-shaped contours, but it just doesn't say 'feminine' to me. But maybe cozy trumps feminine when it's below zero.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:26 PM) :

I don´t like her coat. How to carry a bag with it?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:31 PM) :

the jacket is absolutely amazing! i love the way she has matched it with skinny trousers - such a good balance. and it makes the jacket stick out even more..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:47 PM) :

My first comment on the site even though I've been an frequented the site for a good 2 years now. Just had to comment on this picture because my friend urged me to do so.

She's recently gotten hooked on the site and made a comment about how each shot really comes across as a photo shoot with a model. She was not sure if your style patrons are just truly poised to grace "The Sartorialist" (who wouldn't be) or their models!! I told her to read your "Calm Before the Storm" post and realize that there's a concerted effort behind each shot to capture a sense of style and present it in a polished package.
After reading your "Calm Before the Storm" post and seeing this image, I truly respect how you approach The Sartorialist. You capture a lot of personality--on a style and individual level--in each shot and this one goes to show. The colors of the coat and the environ really work well. Love the coat...its interesting enough to deter one's attention from what ensemble lies beneath. Her gloves caught my eye too...keep it up!!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:51 PM) :

amazing.

Blogger Cristina Redondo said ... (4:04 PM) :

Gorgeous structure of the coat! And good colour combination! cool cold combination!

Blogger HARRY PALMZ said ... (4:27 PM) :

amazing. this really is the definition of the fall/winter trends. one question - is this self-made or is there a designer to note?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:45 PM) :

Oh man, this is really magnificent. Not only is it beautiful and interesting to look at, it looks snuggly and warm.

Blogger mina said ... (4:48 PM) :

wow... this coat has such an interesting shape and a pattern/colour palette that reminds me of my grandmother's old jacket. but this one is way hip, of course. (:
i love how natural her face looks as well. any makeup at all?

Blogger porchmouse said ... (4:59 PM) :

Looks so nice, warm, and comfy. I could use one of those right now.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:04 PM) :

amazing! great with the skinny legs

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

absolutely stunning!

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (5:06 PM) :

Amazing coat and amazing picture: the girl’s outfit is so well balanced with the background. How did you manage to do it? Was she just there? Or you took her there on purpose? Anyway, I’m very amazed!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:07 PM) :

Wow, that's amazing.
She looks gorgeous.

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (5:13 PM) :

The freshest coat I've seen in a long time. I love it.

I'll ask what everyone else asked: is that bit around the neck a scarf, or part of the coat?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:15 PM) :

Amazing... the color blocks in this coat are beautiful and the volume of it with her petite frame make the construction and detail stand out so much...

Blogger Julia said ... (5:21 PM) :

That jacket is utterly amazing. Wow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:33 PM) :

wow, i'm in love, i like her choice of smart flats instead of dressing it up with heels

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:35 PM) :

Oh my gosh, that coat is so gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

I LOVE IT! perfect

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:56 PM) :

This is why i live in new york :-)

Blogger dccaf said ... (5:56 PM) :

wow! i need that coat in my life. i just moved to chicago, and though today was fairly warm, i know i'm going to need something super warm soon! where is it from?

Blogger Sarabee said ... (6:14 PM) :

this coat is absolutely amazing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 PM) :

That coat is a work of art.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:19 PM) :

Sart,

I am always open to your eye which always catches beautiful things.

However, this looks like something a frumpy 40-80 year old would wear to keep warm while on an Alaskan cruise.

No shape, bad colours, cheap looking material. Come on!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 PM) :

So androgynous it hurts. bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:27 PM) :

It... gives off a very homely feel to it. Cozy and comfortable, yet classy with style. Her hair is great as well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:28 PM) :

Basically across the street from Le Sous Sol. I wonder if that's where this coat is from. Looks Belgian, no?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:40 PM) :

BEST PERSON EVER!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:42 PM) :

OMG! that caot is just fantastic.sometimes it's just one thing that makes the whole look.No accessories needed.Fabulous

Blogger CaitlinRoberts said ... (6:53 PM) :

interesting how her head appears to be floating. with the slim pants, she pulls it off.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:24 PM) :

brilliant, as always.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:26 PM) :

oh that's a beautiful coat just beautiful!

Blogger Phillip said ... (7:26 PM) :

She's fly, her coat is amazing. That's a look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:30 PM) :

How is it that every photo you take is always perfectly balanced in form and color? Like this woman here. The grays of her coat echo marvelously with the steel fences behind, and the splashes of orange in the buildings are hinted in her lips and cheeks. The entire effect is soothing and graceful.

Blogger LaBelle said ... (7:35 PM) :

absolutely amazing shape
I want it!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:38 PM) :

that coat is spectacular, does anyone know where its from?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:52 PM) :

i love love love this coat! So stylish yet so snuggly! Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:08 PM) :

Amazing coat, that one!
I wish you would come to London and take some snaps of the people here... (especially around my college, that would be great, hehe)

Blogger Alice said ... (8:45 PM) :

Here is an epitome of what I enjoy about your blog. Clothing as aesthetic - not necessarily pretty or beautiful. This coat speaks of origami, winter landscapes and abstract art all at once - not to mention a successful pairing with plain black.

Blogger stacy said ... (8:54 PM) :

Brilliant!

That is all.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 PM) :

A touch too dramatic for me but it's nice to see that she didn't bog it down with accessories in order for the jacket to really take center stage.

mltt

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 PM) :

the coat is very unusual and the colors are great, but I don't like the look of a disconnected head...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 PM) :

Amazing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:46 PM) :

'That coat' indeed. What could one say? It's brilliant.

Blogger Barbara said ... (9:58 PM) :

I love everything about this except the shoes. I think a good pair of pumps or sleeker boots would do it. On a side note, she has an awesome hair cut.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:02 PM) :

This style is brilliant... The oversized, felted, neutral coat is fascinating, and the high cut/style of the hood around his neck is intriguing. It’s a good contrast to his tight, black trousers (or jeans)... I love it. I also think the gold chains on his gloves add a fine, attractive detail to the outfit. Can anyone tell me which designers are represented here?

Blogger Jael Paris said ... (10:07 PM) :

Great coat. Great hair. This look wouldn't have near the impact if she had tendrils sticking out from that hood.

Blogger cm said ... (10:12 PM) :

chicmamacita!

Blogger zilch said ... (11:07 PM) :

Beautiful and practical!

Blogger E. Frank said ... (11:07 PM) :

Wow this is great. Visible layers really add a regal quality to an outfit. She does have a royal look to her and the slim pants are perfect for completing this wonderful winter look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 PM) :

Unbelievable coat. I am determined to find one like it and, of course, those boots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:21 PM) :

I can imagine the thrill she must have felt looking in the mirror at herself after she put this coat on. The coat's unique, avante garde -- and warm and fuzzy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:11 AM) :

just amazing.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:24 AM) :

who is responsible for the coat? love it. makes me miss dressing for cold weather.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:32 AM) :

that coat looks like a beautifully rigged blanket...very functional with an amazing structure! what kind of coat is it?

Blogger Blaise said ... (12:39 AM) :

The look is very androgynous

Blogger corpo perfetto said ... (1:10 AM) :

Such a beautiful play on volume--and it looks extremely comfortable. I especially love the colors and the way the hood is attached to the neckline.
Cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 AM) :

ohhhhhhhhhhh my complete gosh this is the most beautiful... the entire combination, those boots, so happy you saw it. who made the coat?

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:26 AM) :

Awesome- there's nothing better than a cool coat, and the slim pants balance it wonderfully.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:32 AM) :

that coat is PHAT!

wouldn't look as great on a short person, but i'd try it anyway. it's gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:05 AM) :

This is such an amazing coat. I am in love with the shape, color combination and layering.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:47 AM) :

The proportions are a little bit awkward as it seems to make her head a bit small. I couldn't stop looking at the chain detail on her gloves and I think they are so magnificent and chic. Her overall effect is quite awesome though.

Blogger lala said ... (2:50 AM) :

i couldn't tell if he was a she or she was a he .. this look is amazingly androgynous .. in a strange way..

great to see more photos and its always worth the wait.. ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:51 AM) :

that is an absolutely fantastic coat. the hood actually looks like it might be a scarf underneath, although i'm not entirely sure. could anyone name designer/maker?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 AM) :

What a special coat!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:38 AM) :

Wow! It's like a piece of art!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:45 AM) :

That coat is INCREDIBLE. Look at those shapes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 AM) :

With that wide coat, but naturally with her square-oval face-form she would have little longer and wider sides of her hair, but her fringe goes well with her and the rest.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:10 AM) :

loves it

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:20 AM) :

I love the softness and colors..but not the hanging extension at CF.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:55 AM) :

not so crazy about the coat, but loving the boots!

Blogger Cheltenhamdailyphoto said ... (6:31 AM) :

It looks as if it might feel quite cumbersome. Only the coldest day would warrant such lack of comfort i think. She looks good in it, but she is stick thin. I fear i would look like a bundle of walking blankets.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:33 AM) :

Now, THAT coat is interesting. And looks comfy.

her short, sleek hair...clean face..dark skinny jeans.. everything combines to bring direct attention to that great centerpiece coat!

Blogger NORA said ... (11:17 AM) :

Love the jacket, and how the skinny jeans go with it. Fab!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 AM) :

andrea...always a winner.

Blogger vivian said ... (11:47 AM) :

who created that gorgeous piece! was it zero maria cornejo?

Blogger sariah said ... (12:18 PM) :

I am so intrigued! Did you get any shots of the back of this coat? Is the scarf somehow attached or is it just a perfect match? The way the scarf's worn and how it matches the coat results in you noticing her lovely, bare face even before the voluminous heft of coat.

I love how she still manages to look long and lean in such a voluminous piece with the black jeans and her neck that goes on forever. This is a fresh take on a cocoon coat. also, love the chain details on the gloves.

Blogger mee said ... (12:35 PM) :

wow this coat is amazing....must be a one off piece

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:03 PM) :

I would never be able to pull of a coat like that. And I think its silly looking.

Blogger Emma said ... (5:25 PM) :

really cute, i love the proportion of the bulky top and fitted bottom.

but agyness deyn wants her haircut back

Blogger sarah said ... (5:35 PM) :

andrea always looks so stylish. amazing coat and the short hair is ace.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

just had to write and answer the designer question... Jacket is french vintage from Don the Verb, the most amazing vintage store on Delancey St. between Allen and Eldridge. There is one pleat at the back of the coat near the top creating the drape. The scarf is part of the jacket, attached at the back. The gloves are YSL.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:04 PM) :

Hampshire Represent!

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:54 AM) :

just a note to andrea: thanks for satisfying everyone's curiosity about the jacket's origin. you wear it fabulously :)

Blogger deborah said ... (2:14 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:56 PM) :

this coat looks like jean-charles de castelbajac except the collar is so yohji yamamoto. if it is vintage, i would say castelbajac.

madeline

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:09 PM) :

thanks Andrea for sharing with us. The store has a website where I easily found a photo of a model in the same coat (from what I can tell.) I do say, you wear it much better!

Blogger Primitive said ... (6:27 PM) :

I so thought this was a guy when I first posted. Sorry!
Anyways, I love look. Very... androgynous.
I'm a guy and I have a similar style... I guess

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:28 PM) :

Gorgeous coat, I LOVE dramatic volume like this because so few people have the guts to do it AND can pull it off this well.

Must say though, I would like the outfit better with a more delicate shoe...maybe something with a pointier toe, to streamline the bottom a bit more...but either way it's fab.

Blogger Le Raconteur said ... (11:13 PM) :

Wow. That coat is AMAZING. She is absolutely stunning herself.

Blogger Eunice said ... (7:25 AM) :

Gorgeous, but this kind of coat would only look this stunning only on a person with similar height and type of figure. :( This is why models are chosen largely for their height, haha. A short person like me would look MUCH different (and worse) from this lady.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:20 PM) :

Andrea! Love your style, you need to start a blog or something. I need to know, your lace up blk peep toe shoes & billowy top & skinny jeans in TheSart's second picture of you, who are they by?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:08 PM) :

SOLD!!!
If i could get my hands on this coat, maaaaaaaannn.
silhouette plus fabric equals the coat which makes 2008 happy already.

Blogger Misterparticular said ... (12:41 AM) :

sart,
I may have put my foot in my mouth with my earlier comment which I don't think made it on. But I'm not the only one who thinks she is a he. any idea? Not that it really matters the look generated over 150 mostly positive comments.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:20 PM) :

that's just wonderful! i love it

Blogger Style Salvage Steve said ... (6:24 PM) :

This is a great composition Mr Sartorialist. If the coat didn't appear so light the look would be too heavy up top but the volumptious softness of the upper half is in beautiful contrast with the heavier shades of the jeans and boots (which are amazing). Although all the talk is centred around the magnificent coat, the YSL gloves steal the show. It is all in the details!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:28 PM) :

Outworldly...
Fantastic...

Blogger seditionaire said ... (11:05 PM) :

This is just about the best jacket I've ever seen...no joke...and the scarf is PART OF THE JACKET?!?!?! Andrea, you better hold on to that baby...FRAME it...actually...don't frame it...you wear it too damn well! Chapeau!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:13 PM) :

I'm so glad this coat gets more comments than Stam! Not that I don't like Stam, but it just goes to show that there are many well dressed people out there that often go unnoticed, but a celebrity can be applauded for wearing any old thing out of their closet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:30 AM) :

i am glad there's no hint as to where this coat is from, for it will be a great shame when this look is mastered everywhere and we all become immune to it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:20 PM) :

That just may be the most standout coat I've ever seen. I hate to think that the most avante-garde looks are best pulled off by statuesque beauties, but regardless of her advantage, she would warrant a second look sans skin exposure.
