I Should Give Up Now..

because i don't think it gets much better than this.

You may or may not like his stylistic choices but the execution of his choices are flawless.

I bet his sweater is bespoke because the length is perfect.

The flower, come on, thats great.

I have this gentleman's contact info now so we can soon learn
more about his sartorial secrets

let not spend this post trying to nitpick any little flaws, lets just enjoy
seeing something so well done.

ps check out how perfectly the plaids match at his shoulder/sleeve
that is the mark of a true craftsman.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:39 AM) :

you are right, he is fantastic.

but the fact that i can see as much as i can of his male anatomy makes me feel that his trousers are too tight.

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:42 AM) :

He makes it look very simple (but I'm guessing that it's really not that easy).

I'm interested by the soft collar. Here in the Uk I think most guys would use collar stiffeners here. Is the soft collar an Italian thing?

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (4:42 AM) :

I don't think you should give up Sart... Please, don't!

Blogger Jocke said ... (4:46 AM) :

Truly remarkable sense of detail.
I love the pocketsquare, picking up the tone of the suit and breaking it with the cyanblue at the same time.

Also, Scott, just want to say that your photos from Milano on style.com are really, really good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:48 AM) :

excellent style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:04 AM) :

Beautiful! But I guess the bottom button of his waist coat should be undone. O more thing: SCOTT, please, no adequate assessment of one's sartorial ensemble can be duly performed unless the most important item of a gentleman's wardrobe is perfectly visible, namely: his SHOES.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:16 AM) :

We are now all informed as to which side, as I believe the "bespoke" term goes, he "dresses on." Ahem. More fabric, less contour.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:24 AM) :

wow.....luv this suites...
very very well done..

the details is soo perfect..
it matches everything..

nice...kudos..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:03 AM) :

Beautiful, just fantastic all around.

Blogger Diana said ... (6:06 AM) :

I wish I can express myself in english one day so great like Anonymous 4.39 AM.

You speak from my heart.
The trousers are too tight.
But who cares? :-))))

Blogger mimi said ... (6:07 AM) :

I love that lick of turquoise on the pocket square, fantastic! And his frames!

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:30 AM) :

Matching plaids is difficult in simple panels, setting a sleeve while matching plaids that perfectly? Madness!

Blogger stacy said ... (6:39 AM) :

And still, there are his fabulous glasses...the bright turquoise in his handkerchief...and his perfectly snug pants.

I know how you feel though. Sometimes I'll take a shot and then toss my wrist back that's holding my camera and announce..."That's it! I'm spent! It doesn't get any better."

Congratulations on a brilliant shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:42 AM) :

This is a perfect example of classic with a twist, wonderful!

Don't forget the eye glasses too,a modern version of horn rimmed.Eye wear can make or break an outfit and is often overlooked!

All in all, this gentleman has great confidence and rises above the clothes, way above the clothes.

Blogger aboutface said ... (6:46 AM) :

Everything is planned and well matched. his details are fantastic!
But we agree with the first anonymous, probably his trousers are too tight!

Great photos! Thanks again for sharing them.

Cheers,
AboutFace

Blogger Hélène said ... (7:03 AM) :

I don't like the colour of the kandkerchief though...
and yes, the fact that we can see his male anatomy makes me also think that his trousers are too tight...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:18 AM) :

The unbuttoned buttondown collar shirt is a true sartorial touch. Nice.

Apologies, but I must agree with 4:39 AM that the trousers seem a bit too, ahem, tight. I could never get through a day of meetings and moving about town in trousers that appear so restrictive. Love the vest and the knit tie.

Blogger Jenny said ... (7:23 AM) :

I agree, let's not nitpick. Actually, I'm opposed to it in general as I believe the way we choose to adorn ourselves is an artisic and personal expression, truly unique, hopefully authentic, and therefore worthy of respect. (In most cases. . .)
But this fellow is satisfyingly perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:53 AM) :

His prominent crotch is a bit distracting. Note the lack of zipper.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:13 AM) :

the suit is fantastic... the details, exception...

the package, hmmmm

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:15 AM) :

I agree with the trouser comment. I can see waaay too much.

However the outfit is amazing, the cut is beautiful. If only more people dressed like him...

Blogger steph said ... (8:18 AM) :

I especially like the texture contrast tie/sweater-shirt/jacket - rough/smooth/rough. I'm especially curious if any of it was not thought about, just grabbed that morning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:18 AM) :

You are right! You should stop here, if you were reching for perfection. And not only in menswear:I'm a huge fan of the androginous look, and I can picture myself wearing something that resembles that.
p.s.: but, please, don't stop just because you reached perfection... There are so many unperfect inspiring things ... :-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:19 AM) :

I have to agree with the tight trouser comment: the gent hangs right and that's more than I feel I need to know. Perhaps I spent too much time looking in that area, but I can't even see a fly of any sort on those trousers. Indeed that tailor is doing a fine job of matching the plaid!

Blogger Priscilla Brossi Gutierre said ... (8:23 AM) :

I agree, it´s a nice look!!!

Blogger iEbun said ... (8:32 AM) :

yeah this is a very dope fit, just the pants are too tight.

Blogger Jae Young said ... (8:32 AM) :

Aren't you supposed to be inspired by those who have reached perfection, Scott? It's all about the ~*~positive thinking~*~ The flower is totally darling. Buttonholes should come back, but they'd get overblown if they did, I think. Bigger is not always better.

I've actually always wanted to get a bespoke suit so I could have things like properly aligned patterns. I LOVE it when they line things up in plaids. Everyone should, really. And fit. Do women really get bespoke suits though? It always seems like the bespoke suit scene is so.....male.

Blogger Cindy said ... (8:43 AM) :

Wow, that suit is fantastic. As a sewist, I can appreciate the workmanship in it construction. One thing seems unusual to me, it appears his pants have no front fly. I wonder if it was placed in the back or the side seam.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:45 AM) :

I actually stared at that for a good 3 minutes! i think its my favorite outfit i have ever seen! i love the way the plaid meet at the notchit just looks amazing and the way the plaid at the crotch is lined up! If i were Gay i would be in love!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:50 AM) :

I love his style but I agree with the 1st comment... Trousers seem definitely to tight...

Blogger designerman said ... (8:53 AM) :

that sleeve is perfection!

Blogger deborah said ... (9:11 AM) :

love the plaid and the little splash of color from the flower. this style suits him very well.

Blogger Sarah_LesPantyhose said ... (9:12 AM) :

Someone put loads of time into matching those plaids. But it looks excellent. Also the length of the sweater is really interesting. Thank you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:13 AM) :

That flower complements the pocket square perfectly. And yes, the pants are too tight.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:15 AM) :

Perfect. The colours across the entire ensemble are beautiful as well. Clearly a gentleman who pays attention to detail.

Blogger lars stephan said ... (9:18 AM) :

The jacket fits perfectly. I agree he is very well put together. He looks very sophisticated in a stylish, masculine way. I don't mind the tight pants since they add a certain sexyness to his outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 AM) :

Scott,

Where is the fly on his pants?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:22 AM) :

from Paris...

Lucy - the soft collar has got buttons beneath it to maintain it (Italian rather than Engish version of the stiffeners).

Agree with the anonymous comments about the slightly too obvious masculinity resulting from the tight pants...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 AM) :

Lucy, soft collar is an Italian thing. It comes, mostly, from neapolitan style (that I love so much!).
The gentleman is really smart. The sleeves' length is perfect!
Molto elegante.

Blogger Emily said ... (9:27 AM) :

It might also be the way that he's standing, but the plaid on the jacket almost lines up perfectly with the trousers, as well. You are correct about that being the mark of good tailoring - the pockets are also indicators.

I love his glasses. I'm sending this photo to my husband.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:30 AM) :

So great! I especially like the pocket square--and the sweater vest/cardigan. I also like how he's off center in the photograph, almost as if he's off to somewhere fabulous so we're left wanting more...

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (9:34 AM) :

Superb! This is simply amazing.

What a wonderful plaid! I love the knit tie. And see how the pocket square does NOT match the rest of his clothing? Even the tortoise shell specs are a fit. I don't like the high roll of his 3-button jacket, but I suppose it can be forgiven. You've featured this chap before, and every time his clothing appears perfect.

What a great way to start the week. Thanks, Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:34 AM) :

amazing. i wish men dressed like thi sall the tme. i love how none of it is matchy, but all of it is complementary. especially love the spark of color from the hankie.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:35 AM) :

His style is cliche, but the execution perfect. The shoulder/sleevehead match may be impeccible, but the look is rendered animalistic and truly masculine by the break of his pants.
This is why we vacation in Italy!

Blogger stacy (la, ca) said ... (9:36 AM) :

Great photo, Sart, and your analysis is spot-on ... but anon #1's pants-size comment makes a valid point. And your flower comment with it's "come on" plaintive request. Has this commenting crowd been so critical that you have to implore some support for the flower? Yes, the flower is great! And the matching plaid is a masterful touch.

Blogger Misterparticular said ... (9:39 AM) :

I love how these Italian guys layer up the sweater with their suit/ jacket looks. Very Mama always told me to wear a sweater in winter!

One question, I'm wondering if his shirt isn't bespoke. One cuff seems longer than the other. This is the problem I encounter having sleeves on a jacket altered to my uneven arm lengths but not on the shirt... Am I destined for custom shirts?

Oh, yeah the crotch is a bit tight...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 AM) :

I'm glad someone else said the pants are too tight - I thought so too, but was afraid I was just being too old-fashioned! Otherwise, he looks flawless.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:52 AM) :

I have to agree with the first comment about his trousers being too tight. It looks like he's about to burst out.. He does have great style though, I have to say!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 AM) :

the strength of this look is in the tailoring and accessories...the printed square-framed specs, the delicate flower, and the pocket square are all thoughtful touches to a classic silhouette

Blogger Sam said ... (9:56 AM) :

This guy has style. We need to see more of this everywhere. Enough ironic t-shirts, Williamsburg!

Blogger laia. said ... (10:13 AM) :

I can't imagine what anyone would nitpick about this man. That suit is just absolute perfection and I am loving the combination of the red in the flower with the blue pocket square poking out ever just so.

(also, how handsome is he?)

Blogger Ms. Champagne said ... (10:14 AM) :

wow.
Can i have his contact info too?

Blogger KELLY said ... (10:14 AM) :

sigh...perfection!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:15 AM) :

You're so right about the plaid. It really really bothers me when plaid doesn't match at the seams.

And I agree that this is a perfect ensemble, except, have to second the first poster here: his pants look too tight. I am compelled to blush & look away...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:16 AM) :

purrrfection!
wow, i am breathless...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:18 AM) :

Aside from his pants being a bit too snug for my taste, I think he is impeccably dressed! I love his glasses!

Blogger Jessica Ferri said ... (10:26 AM) :

this is absolutely gorgeous. what's that in his pocket, cigarettes? the blue and the little red flower really make it for me.

the pants seem a little tight, but i'm quite comfortable with that. i hope he is!

Blogger Charlotte said ... (10:28 AM) :

Why isn't it possible to find such a well dressed guy here in Munich? Oh...he's just perfect!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:28 AM) :

Bravo!

But I agree with the first comment that the crotch area of his pants is a tad too tight. Otherwise, he's perfect. Down (or up) to the glasses.

Blogger MAds said ... (10:35 AM) :

I have no words.

Blogger Jingoist said ... (10:43 AM) :

There is SO much going on here and that it is brought together so well is amazing. I think what you see with the "soft" collar is actually an oxford button-down that is not buttoned (look at his left collar point). I think with all the talk of twill/tweed being back and wearable- adding a pattern to it is even better than just trying to incorporate a monotone color in a new way. The wide knit tie is awesome.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:46 AM) :

I wonder what kind of shoes he wears to his fabulous outfit?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

I agree with the first comment; he looks fantastic but goodness, those trousers leave little to the imagination!

Blogger anu said ... (10:59 AM) :

Perhaps the pants are a wee bit too tigh. You can see a bit too much of the guys anatomy...

Blogger psyther said ... (11:03 AM) :

Can you not see the drag lines at his upper inner thighs? His pants simply do not fit his body. I know sometimes pants profile differently in regard to cut, but these look like women's pants that are cut straighter in front. Even though everything else is spot on stylistically in, there is no excuse for ill-fitting apparel...especially if you want us to revere him sartorially.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:08 AM) :

It's not a soft collar, it's a button- down with a fairly substantial height (and won't have the option for collar stays. Most Italian shirt companies make this style.

Because his clothes are little too tight, it conveys a really studied and "trying to hard" look that bothers some people. The clothing combination is great, but he doesn't look comfortable.

Blogger Telliecoin said ... (11:09 AM) :

no flaws that i want to nitpick this looks superb!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 AM) :

Fabulous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 AM) :

I like the texture and color, but to me he looks like he's wearing a costume, not something the rest of us could wear on any given day. Maybe that's my bias talking, but I could never see wearing something like this without looking like a goof. --Tim

Blogger Anne Corrons said ... (11:22 AM) :

I agree with you; the excution is really fabulous. I wish I had met him on the street too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:38 AM) :

Gorgeous!!!
It does look Great... So perfect!! Don´t you feel like everything is going to be fine just by looking to it?? I mean is Peaceful!!

Blogger i-Observer said ... (11:39 AM) :

There is nothing more to say...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 AM) :

Long live the high waisted suit pants..it is time for men to show some relief. Hot and Classy, the perfect combo!
Thanks for delivering us Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 AM) :

"...but the fact that i can see as much as i can of his male anatomy makes me feel that his trousers are too tight..."

I couldn't agree more. Though the sartorial choices (and executions) of this fine gentleman are sublime, EVERYTIME I see a pic of this person his manhood is somehow unveiled.

Nothing against skinny jeans & pants, seriously, just next time give youself a little more room!

I'd love to know if this gentleman's occupation and you should consider him for your SartoriaList!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:47 AM) :

I would have to second the opinion that his pants a slightly uncomfortable-looking. But I love how well he's put everything here together, especially the wonderful color combination from the flower and the pocket square.

Blogger Thomas said ... (11:48 AM) :

I might as well wear sweats for the rest of my life.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:48 AM) :

This is inspired artistry with flawless execution. The dark tie and vest provide the perfect dark canvas for the flashes of color provided by the flower and the pocket square, not to mention the colors in the suit.

This is inspirational artistry. I have a new new year's resolution: I will wear a flower with my suit.

Blogger Cicely said ... (11:49 AM) :

It is rather splendid. I feel like I've gone back in time, this is how guys SHOULD dress!

Blogger Jill said ... (11:50 AM) :

those little pops of bright colors are so great. his sweater is perfect.

Blogger sariah said ... (11:50 AM) :

Thank you for pointing out how the plaids match at his shoulder. I think I would have overlooked that important detail.

I love the colours and execution here and the fabric of his suit is to DIE for. He seems fastidious in his tastes but still humourous, a rare combination.

I do have a question and I don't mean it to be nitpicking at all. i am not really familiar with all of the intricacies of tailoring. But are his trousers a bit too tight or is this just a very fitted trouser? I noticed that the plaid matches at the fly as well. wow.

thank you for sharing and esp. for the commentary.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:53 AM) :

LOVE those glasses. He's perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:55 AM) :

i would think the pocket square has some sentimental value.. that or he just loves it a lot! the pants probably just worked their way up a bit, but my eye keeps going right back to the perfect plaid on them anyway. i bet when he "buttons up" the plaid on the jacket and pants match! the quality of every material on his body is beautiful and lush! and im sure it is "easy" for him, its who he is.. the only hard part for detail oriented pp is seeing every imperfection that enters their life!

thankyouthankyouthankyou finally..perfection!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

FUNtastic!
This is why I love menswear - picture perfect - well done

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:07 PM) :

similar collar to printed tie man...are these "hidden" button down collars? and are they in in italy right now?

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:07 PM) :

Don't we love it when the bar is raised! Beautiful attention to every single detail.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:12 PM) :

I agree -- would rather that his junk not be quite so obviously...there.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:13 PM) :

Beautiful tailoring - I have tried matching plaids while sewing and it is one hellish job at times. This is so far beyond me I can't imagine. What is the pocket square? It almost looks like a bit of the plaid fabric banded with turquoise...? hmmm...

Blogger tintin said ... (12:16 PM) :

The stripes of the collar do not match the lapel. A persickity bespoke detail that you see on Savile Row chalk stripe suiting. Here, who cares. The orange and blue snap this. Did he go to U of FL or U of IL?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 PM) :

Agree with anonymous's first comment.
Excellent style but something a bit off kilter and disconcerting wearing snug as a bug plaid trousers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 PM) :

True dat: the plaid matching is sublime. And I love how the pocket square makes the blue in the plaid pop just that little bit

Methinks the rise is a little short, though. A bit TMI.

Blogger DanDM said ... (12:20 PM) :

I don't think it's nitpicking to point out the weird, ill-fitting crotch area. Seems like a significant flaw. Odd, almost disturbing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:29 PM) :

The trousers are a little tight, doesn't leave much to the imagination! hmmmmmmmmmmm

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:40 PM) :

I would agree with first comment, he needs more support in his under garments

Blogger Chelsea said ... (12:44 PM) :

god, he's impeccable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 PM) :

I like the style overall...I just wish his pants weren't that tight. I can see camel-toe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:51 PM) :

I wonder how does he get his pants on, since it doesn't look like there is a fly

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 PM) :

Wow. Fantastic.

And I can't say that I mind the anatomy so much...

Blogger Jessica said ... (1:02 PM) :

The top half is excellent, I do like the soft fit and adore the excellent little pops of color in the pocket square and flower, the sleeve length ration for the jacket and shirt, the glasses! However, I will agree with anonymous in regards to the snugness of the inseam.

Blogger Kanani said ... (1:03 PM) :

First glance --well, well
Second look --my!
Third lingering stare --WOW.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

I dig this look. The specs are smart with a touch of whimsy. I love the textured tie and soft collar, the dark navy contrasting with the lightness of the suit. Not sure how I feel about the flower AND the cyan pocket square. For me, I prefer one or the other. Perfect sleeve length in both the jacket and shirt cuffs. Great shot.

Blogger Karina said ... (1:11 PM) :

You're right - the flower, and I might add the blue bordered silk!

But, yeah, sorry -- the pants are a bit too snug in the nether-regions... which are no longer nether here!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:14 PM) :

Dear Sart,

Please make an interview with him, and ask where did he bought te cardigan, and where was his suit made!

Absolutely fantastic.

Blogger The Vintagent said ... (1:20 PM) :

Is this a bespoke suit? The construction is perfect, as mentioned all plaids matching on pockets etc, very well done. Dries is adding flower accessories, maybe it's his suit too? But, it's pretty revealing in the crotch, so perhaps the suit is Italian after all!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:38 PM) :

Would someone explain the shirt collars? Is it button down or what?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:43 PM) :

I love how this man takes features of his outfit that could seem like "too much", and makes them "just right". Using the navy knit tie and vest keeps the suit, the flower, and the glasses down to earth.

The shaved head is wonderful too! It highlights his masculine face and bold glasses. I bet his green eyes just pop if we could see him straight on.

Blogger Miss Cavendish said ... (1:48 PM) :

The pocket square and flower are delightful vibrant touches.

Blogger Tereneh Idia said ... (1:52 PM) :

I think everything is perfection. Really wonderful. Some people mentioned that the pants are too tight. I disagree. I think everything is right on. I never understand why women are meant to show their bodies, revealing their sexuality through hem length, cleavage, etc. While men have to cover everything up. I love it.

Blogger Particulars said ... (1:59 PM) :

I think all the details are awesome, but I have to agree with a number of people who have commented on the person's pants: they could be looser. He doesn't look comfortable and if they were a little looser, it would be more flattering.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:10 PM) :

dont think the sweater is bespoke. it looks alot like thom brownes cardigans.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:22 PM) :

Love, love, love the pocket square. That blue paired with the red of the flower is wonderful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:37 PM) :

I like the coloring but his pants look like they don't have a fly and he has camel toe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:39 PM) :

This man is sexy as hell. There's no way around that. But really, the colors, the details, the fit- these things are intentional, and I like that.

His intention was to look damn good, and he succeeded.

More men could learn from this gentleman's beautiful, studied look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:52 PM) :

I like the cyan blue pocket square. If it had been too "matchy matchy" with the colors of the suit it wouldn't have popped. This makes you take a second look.

His shirt sleeves are not uneven, because if you look at the way he is standing there are more wrinkles in his right suit sleeve than his left, thereby pulling the sleeve upwards exposing more shirt sleeve.

And his pants are fitted, which because everyone is so used to that horrible baggy look in everything that anything fitted appears too tight.

I wish I could give this picture to some of the attorneys in this office and show them what a real suit looks like.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:54 PM) :

i agree with everything you said and his tailor is a true artist. Thanks Sart - yet again!
(hope you're finding some time to augment your own wardrobe too, in that wonderful city!)

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (2:56 PM) :

Speaking of things well done, this is just a beautiful photo. Now, I'm getting tired of complimenting your excellent photographic skills...could you take a bad photo already?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:11 PM) :

Wow, awesome! But where are the shoes?

Blogger Mervis said ... (3:14 PM) :

l love his glasses. love the fit of the jacked. love the detail you pointed out scott - the plaid lined up at the shoulders. how strange to not have a front zipper - what is the alternative?? i've seen womens pants with zips on the side or the back but never men's tailored pieces. the flower is le piece de resistance - i adore it!

Blogger Orchid & Wasp said ... (3:29 PM) :

The look is impeccable as far as I'm concerned. I actually really love the look of the trousers, the gesture adds a real bawdiness to an otherwise somewhat restrained and perfectly geeky look. Dare I say the fit of the trousers makes me want to see more!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:35 PM) :

Allora... che cazzo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:53 PM) :

Sartorialist, educate me a bit, I beg you.

Another poster said he believes he has seen pictures of this gentleman before, also with noticably snug pants.

Is this classic perfection, or a new style?

Or perhaps one step on the road to bringing codpieces back into fashion?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:59 PM) :

More shots of this ensemble, please!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:25 PM) :

I see he swings to the right . . .

Everything is perfect, and so well thought out that the, ahem, "reveal" must be thought out, too. Perhaps adding a touch of Robert Plant to the cut of the pants makes them look a bit more rock, and a bit younger?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:26 PM) :

sartorialist,
truly remarkable. For a photo that has the power to lift a soul adrift out of a january funk, you have my unending gratitude.

I enjoyed going through all the comments to gauge people's reactions and my interest was most piqued regarding the fit of the featured gentleman's pants. In the past I was intrigued by comments on women's clothing that to some eyes didn't flatter their figure. We all get dressed the way we do by way of a complicated amalgam of choices, which for me can be an exciting dance of color, texture, silhouette, etc., not necessarily if my waist to hip ratio is evident.

That being said I am enjoying, with a smile, this gentleman's combination of choices,
e meraviglioso

The absence of pleats usually means some kind of italian design influence... but doesn't everything? I love the contrast of the colors chosen for accents, and the soft collar with wide solid tie. Loverly.

Blogger jakubowski said ... (4:43 PM) :

is suit YSL?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:47 PM) :

is it possible that (at least the pants) this is a women's suit? High waisted, slim fitting, no fly, back-zipped women's suit? I (a women) have worn men's suits before ....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:28 AM) :

Beautifully made!

...I actually like the fit of the trousers... are we all so afraid of a *gasp* you-know-what!? ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 AM) :

Perfection in fashion cannot be achieved. If there were only one example of perfection, then you perhaps could have created a "perfect" outfit for both a man and a woman, photographed it, and had a perfect blog with only two perfect entries. However, because fashion is not a one-dimensional scale (such as physical strength or wealth), there is no absolute ideal and variety is appreciated. So, although I know that you said 'I should give up now' tongue in cheek, just remember that it is a flawed mindset to think that a certain look can be an absolute 'perfect'.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 AM) :

Love the suit.
Pants have a gigolo quality ...
Eyeglass frames are PLAID!
REally like it all - although my preference is either handkerchief or buttonhole, not both.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 AM) :

perfection - i love! the tight crotch is not my preference but if he likes it, who am i to quibble?

i still would like to understand: how do these pants work (i.e. how does he put them on) without a fly in the front? does anyone know? side zip, back zip?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:25 AM) :

Truly inspiring. Menswear done with eloquence and panache. Intellectually ensembled.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 AM) :

why is everyone looking at his crotch?
i didn't even notice until you pervs mentioned it.

this guy is flawless.
he is sexy
stylish
sophisticated and he does it with confidence.
this was a great find sart. BRAVO!!! his pants are HOT as is the suit jacket. i wish you showed his shoes.

all you sartorial losers need to take a lesson from him...but then again, most of you probably don't have as nice a physique...i've always said in this blog, that being physically fit and trim is as fashionable as the clothes you drape on the body...sorry chubs! go to the gym and stop eating so much crap.

this guy is the perfect Regency dandy!can you imagine how many hours a day, every day you need to obsess about your clothes, to get this kind of look...bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:25 AM) :

As everyone has said it is a very nice suit except the strange looking pants...how does it work? Is it mens or womens? What is the reason for no zip at front? I don't actually mind the "tightness" (it could be just the underwear, or the lack of, that he is wearing). It is just too distracting to figure out how it works. I am guessing it has a back zip...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 AM) :

Since everyone seems concerned about the absence of a fly: if you look very closely, I do believe there is a very carefully hidden fly in the front. I can see the shadow from the seam to the left (his left) of center.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

Well, a voice out of the chorus: I do not like this look much.

The jacket has not enough "shape" at waist level and the trousers are waaay too tight and, what is more important, look unconfortable.

The white shirt does not match with the cloth's suit color and plaid design (which are not formal and quite "warm"). The collar is too big with reference to the tight ensamble and is thus disproportionate.

Matching color of tie and sweathers is not very impressive (actually it should be avoided cromatically).

Putting together flower and pocketsquare in contrasting bright colors is definitely overdone and creates a cromatical disturbance in the whole look.

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (11:04 AM) :

I love the flower!

The sweater is gorgeous with that tie...and with that shirt collar, it's perfect.

I like the suit and the I think his trousers fit him very nicely ; )

Really well put, but maybe he's just got big balls, and he can't do anything about it, you know.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:58 PM) :

I agree with orchid & wasp, I think the tightness of the trousers is intentional. It gives a thuggishness to the look which is a nice contrast to the buttoned-up perfection of the suit and sweater. Women show their shapes, perhaps it is time for men to "put it out there." Ha! Am I blushing?

Blogger R.G. said ... (2:52 PM) :

what a handsome man

Blogger tintin said ... (4:40 PM) :

Womens buttons are on the left. Mens are on the Right. It's a gents suit to be sure. I also see a fly as well.

Blogger Mistress said ... (6:43 PM) :

Something about this man screams modern and Edwardian to me.

When I first saw this I thanked Saint Homobonus! Patronage of: business people; cloth-workers;cobblers; merchants; shoemakers; and tailors.

I think he looks like perfection. The suit and the fit a work of art. I would have loved to have seen the hem of his pants, shoes and the back of the jacket. Most suits can make a man look stiff and chaste. I find this man not only attractive, but all together daring, sensual, romantic, professional and classic. The glasses, flower and handkerchief really pull it all together for me. I hope to see more of his style in the future.

As far as his pants are concerned; we see bare cleavage, tight shirts/pants, mini skirts on and off the runway and the beach, to say the least. He's a man, so what if he makes it a little more obvious. I didn't even really notice or care until I read a few post about it.

So many other male trends show the male shape in over the top and/or sloppy ways in my humble opinion. I would love to see more men dress this way. On that note how are the Miller brothers (Derrick & Kirk) of Barker Black dressing these days?

Thanks for a wonderful post/shot Sart!

Blogger Jonathan said ... (9:34 PM) :

That jacket fits perfectly, and the glasses match the plaid. Lovely.

Blogger An Aesthete's Lament said ... (11:00 PM) :

Honestly, I think a man's private parts should stay private; I truly don't to see them outlined or emphasized because of his tailoring. Other than that, his outfit is sublime.

Blogger lorrwill said ... (11:31 PM) :

I love this. I agree the attention to detail in the construction of the jacket is first rate. I love the colors and the way he used splashes of brights. I suspect this is a very, very careful shopper when it comes to what will work together based on just this alone. Don't give up - be inspired! This dude is rockin' his look.

What's wrong with everybody...
The suits to tight..

Blogger _ said ... (4:07 AM) :

i wonder how much his entire outfit cost together.

don't take this the wrong way, i do appreciate a well executed style and impeccable tailoring no matter the price range. i also wonder how long it took him to accumulate each piece to this ensemble and whether all his suits are this well matched/onsidered, and if so, was it cost effective?

(the flower is what makes me like him, to be honest. :))

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:43 AM) :

mm. the pants. I'm struggling slightly with the pants. I'm trying not to. but... oh the pants are too tight, I'm sorry

Blogger nommh said ... (5:32 AM) :

I'm glad that the nit-picking has stopped towards the end of this long list of comments!

Those trousers are fantastic. If they were too tight, the front fly (which is certainly there) would gape. And the slim fit gives the whole ensemble a modern feel that contrasts nicely with the more traditional appeal of the plaid.

No reason to give up, however there are so many dimensions in the realm of sartorial excellence and you are so good at spotting them!

Blogger Petit Blog said ... (7:30 AM) :

A brilliant outfit.
The check on the suit is very similar to an old pierre cardin blazer of mine... It is hard to find interesting color variations of Glen Urquhart-checks these days...
Also, love the sqaure fold of the napkin. Great

Blogger Laurence John said ... (11:56 AM) :

the trousers might not look so tight (which they are) if the check pattern hadn't been squeezed together at the fly. i can't believe they went to all the trouble of matching the shoulder pattern perfectly and then did that to the trousers !

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (8:50 PM) :

I have to agree with the first (and some other) comments. It is a terrifically well-executed ensemble but the strain across the fly embarrasses this viewer. I know you admonished us not to nitpick but this is the kind of flaw that truly distracts from the big picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 PM) :

everything is great about this suit.

the tight pants are perfect. very mod.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 PM) :

For emily;
It's easy to match patch pockets like these to the plaid, but the shoulder is hard. Note too how the plaid runs across the body of the jacket and is perfectly aligned to the sleeve (a separate piece when constructing the suit, obviously) i.e. the sleeve picks up the torso plaid. Suits like that are seriously lovely (and lovingly made).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 AM) :

More men should dresses like this, especially in New York....wayyyy too much big and hill fitting clothing.
Great shot!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:21 AM) :

It is my opinion that custom (bespoke) made clothing is suppose to fit the contours of one's body. I do not think that his trousers are too tight but it is the way in which he position his..."package."
The outfit is well thought out and it appears that he's not trying to hard to pull it off...I simply love the look and i would wear it...however, i could not pull this off in the Caribbean..I would feel as if I am in a suna :).
Well done...and it does not hurt that this guy is handsome!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:18 PM) :

I believe that when it comes to clothes the first rule is that you should feel comfortable in them, which is not the case here.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 AM) :

Extraordinary. You post a photo of a marvellous look and many of your correspondents can only comment about the tightness of the trousers AND NOTICE NOTHING ELSE! It must make you want to give up.

And what is this obsession that a man should appear emasculated for fear of offending delicate sensibilities? We certainly don't see the same sort of comments when you feature women wearing leggings, which frequently reveal a fair amount of the owners' anatomy. Perhaps this prudishness is an American thing? If so, then I pity American men, forced to apologise for being men!

He looks great. Tight trousers are just as valid a look as any other. Some people just can't see the wood for the trees (or visa versa)!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:08 AM) :

Two thumbs up. Love it. But his pants are a little tight... No one wants to be on the street and see other guys' anatomies, no matter how well dressed they are.

Beautiful suit though. My girlfriend wants me to dress exactly like him...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:46 PM) :

Personally, I think the tight trousers are extremely sexy. If one can make a suit sexy, than by all means, go for it!

Stunning ensemble. In love.

Blogger R said ... (1:48 PM) :

Regarding anonymous at 7.53 and others who asked about the fly, it IS there. You just have to click on the picture and look more closely. :) I believe it's the angle and exceptional tailoring that causes the front to look almost as if it is flat and fly-free. Oh, what would I not give for the address of a tailor who can give me craftsmanship such as this? I wish all my clothes were tailored with attention to every single millimetre. Now that, would be very pleasing indeed! haha.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

I agree, I think the pants are a bit too tight. However, the rest of the image is perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

Awesomely beautiful man in the perfect outfit. Love it. Thanks Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:37 AM) :

The little red flower and the blue pocket square are great touches that bring out the colors in the plaid. What a beautiful outfit!

And I wanted to add my vote to those who things his bulge is great. Anonymous, way towards the bottom, has a point when he says that women don't have to apologize for wearing tight clothing, and neither should men.

It's brave that he's able to show it so obviously. Is he wearing the look for business? If so, he's doubly daring.

We are sexual creatures and he point can be made for the idea of being able to show that anytime, anywhere.

Blogger Stephen Orr said ... (5:58 PM) :

It's a similar package to the one found in Sean Connery's bespoke suit in Goldfinger...I think now we just acknowledge their presence whereas 50 years ago men weren't so openly sexualized.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 AM) :

Wonderful wonderful wonderful. I love that we can see the way he.. ahem.. dresses. I think it makes it very modern, hip, and yes, sexy in a very refined, sophisticated way. The pants are snug, but the jacket is also closely tailored.

Undeniably FABULOUS!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:09 PM) :

he is absolutely gorgeous! and the trousers are absolutely perfect, perfect fit, perfect contours! and the glasses are brilliant. As E Ross said above, where can i get one of him!!?? in love with the self-assured, intellectual attitude being displayed.
