I Should Give Up Now..


because i don't think it gets much better than this.

You may or may not like his stylistic choices but the execution of his choices are flawless.

I bet his sweater is bespoke because the length is perfect.

The flower, come on, thats great.

I have this gentleman's contact info now so we can soon learn
more about his sartorial secrets

let not spend this post trying to nitpick any little flaws, lets just enjoy
seeing something so well done.

ps check out how perfectly the plaids match at his shoulder/sleeve
that is the mark of a true craftsman.

I'm interested by the soft collar. Here in the Uk I think most guys would use collar stiffeners here. Is the soft collar an Italian thing?

This is a perfect example of classic with a twist,wonderful!

Don't forget the eye glasses too,a modern version of horn rimmed.Eye wear can make or break an outfit and is often overlooked!

All in all,this gentleman has great confidence and rises above the clothes,way above the clothes.

Apologies, but I must agree with 4:39 AM that the trousers seem a bit too, ahem, tight. I could never get through a day of meetings and moving about town in trousers that appear so restrictive. Love the vest and the knit tie.

I agree, let's not nitpick. Actually, I'm opposed to it in general as I believe the way we choose to adorn ourselves is an artisic and personal expression, truly unique, hopefully authentic, and therefore worthy of respect. (In most cases. . .)

I have to agree with the tight trouser comment: the gent hangs right and that's more than I feel I need to know. Perhaps I spent too much time looking in that area, but I can't even see a fly of any sort on those trousers. Indeed that tailor is doing a fine job of matching the plaid!

Aren't you supposed to be inspired by those who have reached perfection, Scott? It's all about the ~*~positive thinking~*~ The flower is totally darling. Buttonholes should come back, but they'd get overblown if they did, I think. Bigger is not always better.

I've actually always wanted to get a bespoke suit so I could have things like properly aligned patterns. I LOVE it when they line things up in plaids. Everyone should, really. And fit. Do women really get bespoke suits though? It always seems like the bespoke suit scene is so.....male.

Wow, that suit is fantastic. As a sewist, I can appreciate the workmanship in it construction. One thing seems unusual to me, it appears his pants have no front fly. I wonder if it was placed in the back or the side seam.

Lucy - the soft collar has got buttons beneath it to maintain it (Italian rather than Engish version of the stiffeners).

Agree with the anonymous comments about the slightly too obvious masculinity resulting from the tight pants...

Lucy, soft collar is an Italian thing. It comes, mostly, from neapolitan style (that I love so much!).
The gentleman is really smart. The sleeves' length is perfect!

It might also be the way that he's standing, but the plaid on the jacket almost lines up perfectly with the trousers, as well. You are correct about that being the mark of good tailoring - the pockets are also indicators.

What a wonderful plaid! I love the knit tie. And see how the pocket square does NOT match the rest of his clothing? Even the tortoise shell specs are a fit. I don't like the high roll of his 3-button jacket, but I suppose it can be forgiven. You've featured this chap before, and every time his clothing appears perfect.

His style is cliche, but the execution perfect. The shoulder/sleevehead match may be impeccible, but the look is rendered animalistic and truly masculine by the break of his pants.

I love how these Italian guys layer up the sweater with their suit/ jacket looks. Very Mama always told me to wear a sweater in winter!

One question, I'm wondering if his shirt isn't bespoke. One cuff seems longer than the other. This is the problem I encounter having sleeves on a jacket altered to my uneven arm lengths but not on the shirt... Am I destined for custom shirts?

Oh, yeah the crotch is a bit tight...

There is SO much going on here and that it is brought together so well is amazing. I think what you see with the "soft" collar is actually an oxford button-down that is not buttoned (look at his left collar point). I think with all the talk of twill/tweed being back and wearable- adding a pattern to it is even better than just trying to incorporate a monotone color in a new way. The wide knit tie is awesome.

Can you not see the drag lines at his upper inner thighs? His pants simply do not fit his body. I know sometimes pants profile differently in regard to cut, but these look like women's pants that are cut straighter in front. Even though everything else is spot on stylistically in, there is no excuse for ill-fitting apparel...especially if you want us to revere him sartorially.

It's not a soft collar, it's a button- down with a fairly substantial height (and won't have the option for collar stays. Most Italian shirt companies make this style.

Because his clothes are little too tight, it conveys a really studied and "trying to hard" look that bothers some people. The clothing combination is great, but he doesn't look comfortable.

I couldn't agree more. Though the sartorial choices (and executions) of this fine gentleman are sublime, EVERYTIME I see a pic of this person his manhood is somehow unveiled.

Nothing against skinny jeans & pants, seriously, just next time give youself a little more room!

I'd love to know if this gentleman's occupation and you should consider him for your SartoriaList!

This is inspired artistry with flawless execution. The dark tie and vest provide the perfect dark canvas for the flashes of color provided by the flower and the pocket square, not to mention the colors in the suit.

Thank you for pointing out how the plaids match at his shoulder. I think I would have overlooked that important detail.

I love the colours and execution here and the fabric of his suit is to DIE for. He seems fastidious in his tastes but still humourous, a rare combination.

I do have a question and I don't mean it to be nitpicking at all. i am not really familiar with all of the intricacies of tailoring. But are his trousers a bit too tight or is this just a very fitted trouser? I noticed that the plaid matches at the fly as well. wow.

i would think the pocket square has some sentimental value.. that or he just loves it a lot! the pants probably just worked their way up a bit, but my eye keeps going right back to the perfect plaid on them anyway. i bet when he "buttons up" the plaid on the jacket and pants match! the quality of every material on his body is beautiful and lush! and im sure it is "easy" for him, its who he is.. the only hard part for detail oriented pp is seeing every imperfection that enters their life!

Beautiful tailoring - I have tried matching plaids while sewing and it is one hellish job at times. This is so far beyond me I can't imagine. What is the pocket square? It almost looks like a bit of the plaid fabric banded with turquoise...? hmmm...

I dig this look. The specs are smart with a touch of whimsy. I love the textured tie and soft collar, the dark navy contrasting with the lightness of the suit. Not sure how I feel about the flower AND the cyan pocket square. For me, I prefer one or the other. Perfect sleeve length in both the jacket and shirt cuffs. Great shot.

I love how this man takes features of his outfit that could seem like "too much", and makes them "just right". Using the navy knit tie and vest keeps the suit, the flower, and the glasses down to earth.

The shaved head is wonderful too! It highlights his masculine face and bold glasses. I bet his green eyes just pop if we could see him straight on.

I think everything is perfection. Really wonderful. Some people mentioned that the pants are too tight. I disagree. I think everything is right on. I never understand why women are meant to show their bodies, revealing their sexuality through hem length, cleavage, etc. While men have to cover everything up. I love it.

This man is sexy as hell. There's no way around that. But really, the colors, the details, the fit- these things are intentional, and I like that.

His intention was to look damn good, and he succeeded.

More men could learn from this gentleman's beautiful, studied look.

I like the cyan blue pocket square. If it had been too "matchy matchy" with the colors of the suit it wouldn't have popped. This makes you take a second look.

His shirt sleeves are not uneven, because if you look at the way he is standing there are more wrinkles in his right suit sleeve than his left, thereby pulling the sleeve upwards exposing more shirt sleeve.

And his pants are fitted, which because everyone is so used to that horrible baggy look in everything that anything fitted appears too tight.

I wish I could give this picture to some of the attorneys in this office and show them what a real suit looks like.

truly remarkable. For a photo that has the power to lift a soul adrift out of a january funk, you have my unending gratitude.

I enjoyed going through all the comments to gauge people's reactions and my interest was most piqued regarding the fit of the featured gentleman's pants. In the past I was intrigued by comments on women's clothing that to some eyes didn't flatter their figure. We all get dressed the way we do by way of a complicated amalgam of choices, which for me can be an exciting dance of color, texture, silhouette, etc., not necessarily if my waist to hip ratio is evident.

That being said I am enjoying, with a smile, this gentleman's combination of choices,

Perfection in fashion cannot be achieved. If there were only one example of perfection, then you perhaps could have created a "perfect" outfit for both a man and a woman, photographed it, and had a perfect blog with only two perfect entries. However, because fashion is not a one-dimensional scale (such as physical strength or wealth), there is no absolute ideal and variety is appreciated. So, although I know that you said 'I should give up now' tongue in cheek, just remember that it is a flawed mindset to think that a certain look can be an absolute 'perfect'.

Since everyone seems concerned about the absence of a fly: if you look very closely, I do believe there is a very carefully hidden fly in the front. I can see the shadow from the seam to the left (his left) of center.

Well, a voice out of the chorus: I do not like this look much.

The jacket has not enough "shape" at waist level and the trousers are waaay too tight and, what is more important, look unconfortable.

The white shirt does not match with the cloth's suit color and plaid design (which are not formal and quite "warm"). The collar is too big with reference to the tight ensamble and is thus disproportionate.

Matching color of tie and sweathers is not very impressive (actually it should be avoided cromatically).

Putting together flower and pocketsquare in contrasting bright colors is definitely overdone and creates a cromatical disturbance in the whole look.

I agree with orchid & wasp, I think the tightness of the trousers is intentional. It gives a thuggishness to the look which is a nice contrast to the buttoned-up perfection of the suit and sweater. Women show their shapes, perhaps it is time for men to "put it out there." Ha! Am I blushing?

Something about this man screams modern and Edwardian to me.

When I first saw this I thanked Saint Homobonus! Patronage of: business people; cloth-workers;cobblers; merchants; shoemakers; and tailors.

I think he looks like perfection. The suit and the fit a work of art. I would have loved to have seen the hem of his pants, shoes and the back of the jacket. Most suits can make a man look stiff and chaste. I find this man not only attractive, but all together daring, sensual, romantic, professional and classic. The glasses, flower and handkerchief really pull it all together for me. I hope to see more of his style in the future.

As far as his pants are concerned; we see bare cleavage, tight shirts/pants, mini skirts on and off the runway and the beach, to say the least. He's a man, so what if he makes it a little more obvious. I didn't even really notice or care until I read a few post about it.

So many other male trends show the male shape in over the top and/or sloppy ways in my humble opinion. I would love to see more men dress this way. On that note how are the Miller brothers (Derrick & Kirk) of Barker Black dressing these days?

I love this. I agree the attention to detail in the construction of the jacket is first rate. I love the colors and the way he used splashes of brights. Those trousers are fantastic. If they were too tight, the front fly (which is certainly there) would gape. And the slim fit gives the whole ensemble a modern feel that contrasts nicely with the more traditional appeal of the plaid.

No reason to give up, however there are so many dimensions in the realm of sartorial excellence and you are so good at spotting them!

The check on the suit is very similar to an old pierre cardin blazer of mine... It is hard to find interesting color variations of Glen Urquhart-checks these days...

It's easy to match patch pockets like these to the plaid, but the shoulder is hard. Note too how the plaid runs across the body of the jacket and is perfectly aligned to the sleeve (a separate piece when constructing the suit, obviously) i.e. the sleeve picks up the torso plaid. Suits like that are seriously lovely (and lovingly made).

It is my opinion that custom (bespoke) made clothing is suppose to fit the contours of one's body. I do not think that his trousers are too tight but it is the way in which he position his..."package."
The outfit is well thought out and it appears that he's not trying to hard to pull it off...I simply love the look and i would wear it...however, i could not pull this off in the Caribbean..I would feel as if I am in a suna :).

And what is this obsession that a man should appear emasculated for fear of offending delicate sensibilities? We certainly don't see the same sort of comments when you feature women wearing leggings, which frequently reveal a fair amount of the owners' anatomy. Perhaps this prudishness is an American thing? If so, then I pity American men, forced to apologise for being men!

He looks great. Tight trousers are just as valid a look as any other. Some people just can't see the wood for the trees (or visa versa)!

Regarding anonymous at 7.53 and others who asked about the fly, it IS there. You just have to click on the picture and look more closely. :) I believe it's the angle and exceptional tailoring that causes the front to look almost as if it is flat and fly-free. Oh, what would I not give for the address of a tailor who can give me craftsmanship such as this? I wish all my clothes were tailored with attention to every single millimetre. Now that, would be very pleasing indeed! haha.

The little red flower and the blue pocket square are great touches that bring out the colors in the plaid. What a beautiful outfit!

And I wanted to add my vote to those who things his bulge is great. Anonymous, way towards the bottom, has a point when he says that women don't have to apologize for wearing tight clothing, and neither should men.

It's brave that he's able to show it so obviously. Is he wearing the look for business? If so, he's doubly daring.

We are sexual creatures and he point can be made for the idea of being able to show that anytime, anywhere.
