Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone and thanks for such a great 2007

I am so ready for 2008. I took a little time off from shooting over the holidays but most of that time was spent thinking about how to make the blog even better in 2008.
I think I have come up with some really great and very achievable ideas that I will begin implementing soon.

I also have a major announcement that once the paperwork is all signed I will be very pleased to announce.

As you know I try to keep my eyes and ears open to your requests (such as larger images and separate window for comments) so if you get a chance let me know if you see any little things that could make the blog even better - I can't promise anything but I am open for suggestions.

My original idea for the "shopping guide" was way too ambitious but I have retooled my thinking and hope to have something up and running by April 2007 (kidding)

I also want to do some more of the Style Profiles that I did when starting the blog.

Above is a scanned postcard that I bought at Rizzoli of Montgomery Clift shot by Ida Wyman.
I just love this shot.
It seems every December I read articles about how to make the tux "new and modern". I don't think we need to make it modern I think we need to remember how we use to wear a tux.

(I've not commented here before but I do enjoy keeping up with your blog - thanks!)

Have you considered getting a flickr account? It should allow you to post to your blog and offers different image sizes.

You also might want to check out moving to a wordpress blog, I find it functions better than blogger and will allow you to transfer your blogger archive.

Looking forward to reading your blog in 2008!

De-lurking to say Happy New Year!

I absolutely love reading your blog. I couldn't agree more about the tux comment. If one thing should remain classic, the tuxedo should be it.

Cheers!

i'm looking forward to see all the new things to come. i've been looking at your blog every morning for a long time now and it has certainly changed for the better. this site has been a great inspiration for me, and not just in fashion. keep up the great work!

Can't wait to see what you have in store for 2008. This is still my number one blog to check on a daily basis and it's great how you continue to add inspiring, QUALITY posts without losing your passion.

Blogger Sam said ... (2:24 PM) :

As far as tuxes go I think we all need to start taking pointers from the kids going to prom. For instance, we need more matching straight ties and vests - preferably in electric blue paisley. Or maybe it should be all about top hats, canes, and Converse All Stars. Just kidding. Keep it simple. Great photo. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Blogger reverend dick said ... (2:29 PM) :

That's Montgomery Clift, Honey! But they didn't shoot his right profile... Thank you, Sart for a very stylish intro to 2008.

All the best to you for this coming year -- although it sounds as though you are already waist deep in exciting plans that make you smile...

Blogger KWu said ... (4:10 PM) :

It seems like lately you've been doing a little bit more commentary on the images--what it is that drew you to the subject, the details that you noticed, etc. I really like that, it focuses the viewing of the photo for me, much like taking a good tour in a museum.

Happy New Year, Sart!

I've only just returned from a sailing and spearfishing trip to the southern Pacific, and I was concerned I would miss some particularly thrilling news from you. Not to mention, several wonderful photos, including this classic shot of Montgomery Clift. Say what you will of Mr. Clift, the chap had a great haircut. Simply amazing.

Your blog is near perfection and the only suggestion I would offer would be to include more photos of besuited gents, dandies, preppies, village characters, etc. Please.

If you are ever in need of a Southern California correspondent, I'm your guy. I specialise in photos of celebrities, bikinis, and female beach volleyball players.

Anyway, many thanks for a very inspiring blog. I reckon 2008 will be a great year for you.

Fabulous picture of Clift! And too true about the tux - though we often forget the small, but crucial detail - tie the bow tie, don't use a pre-fab, it's very tacky.

An excellent way to start the year - thank you!

The thing with the tux in pictures like this is that we don't live in times like that anymore. Part of why it looks so cool is that it was part of the glamour and stylized looks the studio system produced in its day. We just don't have that anymore. That's why it takes a lot of personality to make a tux look fit to a character nowadays.

Happy New Year from Down-Under.

I hope your idea for making this site better in 2008 doesn't lose its Style over Fashion theme. It's been a great inspiration for me since finding it in late Dec 08.

Thank you.

Happy New Year!

On the tuxedo: the ultimate trick, as displayed so perfectly here by Mr. Clift, is to be to be able to sit ON THE FLOOR, smoking, at the bottom of a staircase, in a tux. If you're not comfortable in your clothes, they will never look right.

Can't wait for the big secret news.

OK, I have one idea for an improvement. I'd like to be able to search your blog. I have thought about this since I am now making a cashmere coat and I have been a little indecisive about how to make the collar. So for me, it would have been nice to be able to search and see the coats you have shot (and put on the blog) to see what detailing and fit they have. What do you think?

a nice 2008 to everyone!

Blogger Emily said ... (9:16 AM) :

I like the idea of telling us where we can find things, even though I also know it's a large PITA to make that comprehensible.

Love the blog, it's one of my daily reads!

Thanks for all the inspiration and Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Thank you for your hard work and effort to bring the world such wonderful and inspiring photos. I just wish I could be in NY to enjoy your exhibition.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:42 AM) :

Happy new year to you as well.

I think your gentle reminder to remember how we used to wear a tux applies to all classic and fundamentals pieces of a wardrobe (male and female). Time to get back to basics!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

I also put in a vote for more commentary from you --when you have the time to do it, of course. Your pictures alone, nonetheless, open me up to new inspiration almost daily. I believe I speak for many when I say that this is my favourite blog.
Many thanks, Sart,
and happy new year to you and your family!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 AM) :

Again I say great blog but please make your New Year's resolution to be to get an editor. Your spelling and grammar are atrocious.

I am sure you meant to say "how we USED to wear a tux." Not USE.

Spelling and grammar are as important a pursuit as the correct shirt sleeve/jkt length combo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 AM) :

"It seems every December I read articles about how to make the tux "new and modern". I don't think we need to make it modern I think we need to remember how we use(d) to wear a tux."
A tux is a tux. It is what it is - doing anything to it turns it into something else - something NOT a tux. But again, I think everyone needs to take a good hard look at how they dress when they leave the house all the time - make the commitment to dress like stylish adults all the time. Not 16 year old skater boys or "celebutants". Do we know what that means, anymore?

Blogger Imelda said ... (10:50 AM) :

Happy New Year!

don't change a thing... keep the nice mix of male/female-- old/young... you have made fashion mags obsolete for me... i am not renewing my subscriptions. I am so much happier looking at style than fashiony-trendy trust fund children.
THANK YOU!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 PM) :

Happy New Year Scott - keep up the good work and as always your blog is a pleasure to read day in day out and I bet this won't change in 2008 !

I am not tired of saying how great this blog is and how much it has inspired me!

It is such a wonderful thing that you are open to requests, Sart. However, technically the blog works great for me, and about it’s content, it is fun to be surprised every day by the most unexpected pictures.

Anyway, if I had to ask for something... Well... I am particularly fond of styles such as Alber Elbaz', Dita Von Teese's (the picture you once took from her was brilliant), Woody Allen's, Maggie Gyllenhall's, Sofia Coppola's... So, it would be fantastic to see any of them immortalized by you in this blog... ;-)

Great 2008 to everybody!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:21 AM) :

Ahhh... if only more could wear a tuxedo like Montgomery Clift.

Blogger The Maiden said ... (1:44 PM) :

that was intersting what you said about the tux not needing to be re-invented. all too often people wear things which might go colour wise, but really dont work as inspiration. one of the six formers at school was wearing hardcore high stiletoes and a really tight sharp pencil skirt and then she put a really sweet alice band on which made her face look sweet, and it really didn't work with the domanatrix look of the rest of her. it is interesting to mix up influences like balenciaga but it has to be obvious, i think. i always want to wear my suit to school withoutanything underneath to give it a sexy edge but it's not allowed becuase i go to a catholic girls school.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

Hello Scott,

I think we need to remember 3 things about how to were a tux:

fit
confidence
a great hair cut

anyone notice tharticle on gq.com about formal wear.it says:
"tuxes are for head waiters and penguins"

pish posh! i'll take the bow tie and shawl collar.

anyway, you should submit this one for your next spread in gq.
maybe someone should write to glenn o'brien for good measure and see what he thinks, too.

I couldn't agree more, Scott! Since it's difficult catching people walking around in tuxedos on the street, hopefully you can find the opportunity to take some evening wear shots in the future- I'll definitely be wearing one to your exhibition opening!
