On the Street....Sodermalm, Stockholm

The plaid coat--definitely a thing this winter. And a nice example of it, male version.

Big volume on top works surprisingly well with the skinny, rolled up pants (another trend).

Also love the Veronca Lake hair. (OK, is this allusion lost on everyone out there, or?)

Blogger wear palettes said ... (7:19 AM) :

nice contrast the white shirt.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:14 AM) :

wonderful coat, beautiful hair; are you shooting near an arts school. very hip neighborhoods. have to visit stockholm.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:39 AM) :

Nice heavy fringe very common hairstyle in Sweden.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:10 AM) :

New to blog and absolutely love it! But not feeling this look at all. I didn't even know they had xmas in emo land.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 AM) :

this boy is ADORABLE.
love the coat. love the hair. love the boots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

Mosebacketorg, not too far from where I live.

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (9:49 AM) :

These photographs taken in Stockholm are awe-inspiring. This young man is awe-inspiring!

Katherine Zoepf (The New York Times) on Stockholm Style:
COOL. Stockholm is cool. During a long weekend that my boyfriend, Dan, and I spent there, I found myself chirping like a 13-year-old over whimsical hotel light fixtures and exquisite potato mashers, river buoys shaped like human hands, folding accordion-pleated ice cream dishes, and a functioning cocktail bar sculptured entirely from ice. So cool.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 AM) :

I like the collar, coat, bag, and jeans combo - but the hair and his shoes, I'm not sure. His shoes remind me too much of Goofy to take them seriously (esp with the high pants roll). But I really like the darker plaid coat, and that it has a hood!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:08 AM) :

Love the jacket!

Ever heard about this Finnish site Hel-looks.com?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 AM) :

It must be said - in an individual Herculean effort to get the madness to cease - that outerwear with heavy/bulky necklines should be burned to ashes. That includes chunky scarves.

It makes the head look small and shrunken. Very "Beetlejuice," you know? It's creepy and unsexified.

Yes, that's a word.

Now put on a proper jacket with good lines that'll keep you warm without looking like someone put a hex on you.

From Canada,
mltt

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

the total look was great ~how match with the boy~

Blogger EB said ... (10:23 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:38 AM) :

how fantastic! he is so stylish

Blogger Misterparticular said ... (11:01 AM) :

Crazy cute!

The Thom Brown affect has hit Stockholm hard eh?
Nice hair on this guy, assuming he didn't pull out a comb before the shot.

Do guys not do the pigeon toe pose?

Blogger Homo Ono said ... (11:13 AM) :

Love the coat. Especially paired with the skinny pants. I am not sure it would work otherwise.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (11:17 AM) :

Love the muted buffalo plaid! Just curious: do all the men in Sodermalm peg their pants like that?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 AM) :

Can't stand it. Whole thing looks contrived.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 AM) :

perfect coat

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:38 AM) :

oh how i adore the over-sized jacket. especially when it sports a subtle print. i also like the collar of his shirt peeking out the top. i didn't really expect it..

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:49 AM) :

LOVE his whole look. the slim cropped jeans, the haircut, very retro-mod.

i love the jacket, but think the whole outfit would be more cohesive if it, like the rest of him, was more streamlined and sleek.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:54 AM) :

Really fab, though the hair is perhaps a bit much?

Blogger TypicalFashion said ... (12:19 PM) :

wow, oh very "swedish" heh

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 PM) :

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is called style!

Blogger Suzanna Mars said ... (12:58 PM) :

New England prep school, emo, East Village, and punk all in one young man who has mischief on his mind.

His expression is more telling than his attire.

Mother: I warned you about boys like that.

Blogger Mischo Beauty said ... (1:16 PM) :

It's all about the hair! Love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:41 PM) :

Great look. I am so glad to find your site. I am stuck in the rural south, no style here at all. At least I get a to see a some great influence on this blog.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:47 PM) :

My roommate had that haircut for a while. I thought he was hiding something.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:56 PM) :

Emo meets skinhead. Ouch.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:59 PM) :

Swedes seem to never disappoint.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:32 PM) :

His hair couldn't complement his outfit any better. The jacket is brilliant. I am in love with the entire look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:50 PM) :

really like the silhouette of large plaid coat with black tapered jeans

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (3:59 PM) :

Unique and amazing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 PM) :

more rolled up skinny pants...must be one of "the looks" over there right now?

I like this one too. Even the naughty school boy vibe I'm getting from it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 PM) :

He needs a haircut, I'd say. Anyways, nice outfit, not very original though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 PM) :

amazing

Blogger a/c said ... (4:37 PM) :

The docs make me smile.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

Recntly I have seen so many kids in Stockholm wearing Doc Martens. It is a nice ode to the days of the original working class(and non-racist) skin heads (who wore braces, Levis, and Ben Sherman collarded shirts).

Blogger Cheltenhamdailyphoto said ... (5:09 PM) :

Maybe this'll just be me, but i think this is a thorough mess; a confection of things thrown at the poor chap without thought.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:25 PM) :

That guy is soooo hooot!!!!!

Blogger Daman said ... (5:57 PM) :

I love how his jacket is big and you look down and he has raised skinny jeans.
and the hair...my oh my :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 PM) :

wow
that's style from hair to shoes and everything in between...
good find sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:52 PM) :

I find this outfit very unisex. It looks good on him and it would look good on me (a female). I want his coat and boots. : )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:04 PM) :

I love, love, love the jacket. It looks great next to the crisp white collar.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:28 PM) :

can i just say that i have the same hairstyle?? except that i'm a girl and i have black hair.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:37 PM) :

so. cute.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:56 PM) :

GRRREEEAAATTTTTT!

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (9:08 PM) :

I don't know which I like better:

the look of the boy,

or

the look of the street he's on!

Blogger mydrid said ... (9:08 PM) :

oh dear... what a lovely shot

Blogger MONICA said ... (9:29 PM) :

plaid coat!

Blogger DeepBlueSea said ... (10:39 PM) :

Exquisite coat and he doesn't look like a young Dylan.

Now, hoping to see some Stockholmers above high-school age... ;o)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 AM) :

This is just fantastic! Love him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 AM) :

I must respect his obvious love of the classics--Doc Martens, punkish black jeans, collared shirt, duffel coat, New Wave haircut. He knows the value of reliable, time-tested styles. These things look fresh and interesting on him. Classics need not be dull.

And his gaze is very sassy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:05 AM) :

Yessss! If I were a man, I'd want to look just like that. Seriously. Love the proportions.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:17 AM) :

The perfect marriage of stylish and practical. Beautiful coat! I bet he is nice and warm.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:08 AM) :

no snow in stockholm?

Blogger ojhofer said ... (6:36 AM) :

oversized over skinny is nifty

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:44 AM) :

i think this look would have not looked great if it wasn't for the hair... and also a peek of white shirt adds a nice touch to it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 AM) :

I am obsessed with this coat. Any ideas where I can get my hands on something like it?

Blogger hoi polloi said ... (10:37 AM) :

Wow looks like how my boyfriend used to dress in highschool 1991. That takes me back

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:30 PM) :

heavy david sylvian overtones

Blogger philip said ... (4:33 PM) :

Dear Swedish Boy,
Yes to your entire look! Keep everything, change nothing.
Send.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 AM) :

aw. why so sullen? ah yes, the teenage years.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:38 PM) :

Wonderful!
Where can I buy this coat?

Blogger Silvio Plaza said ... (6:11 PM) :

i wish i had his hair...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:30 PM) :

this boy is the most gorgeous thing ever to be produced in sweden!
learn from him!

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (6:08 AM) :

Love the outfit, the volumes, the styling. But the hair is so last year - enough with them. I think he would look infinitely better with a shorter cut.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:13 AM) :

no offense, but looks very typical emo/indie fashion nonsense to me, though by far not the most horrible of example. nothing 'unique' in this look, 14 indie kids out of a dozen seem to look like that.

fashionable, perhaps. any suss, no.

Blogger Jael Paris said ... (6:50 AM) :

While hair like that looks great in photos, I find it very annoying in real life. People with that sort of hair (myself included since I'm in between cuts) tend to push it around a lot. It's a visual noise that bothers me as much as long-haired curls constantly twirling a lock in their fingers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 AM) :

My God, he's hot. My favorite parts are his hair and expression. very sexy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:58 PM) :

great look. don't see too many guys in chicago that would dare to wear a coat like this...so hot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:59 PM) :

THE HAIR OF GOLD FOR THE AGE OF GOLD: I´D LIKE TO BE AS HIM: PERFECT, "PAST YEAR CUT" INCLUDED FOR THIS AND THE NEXT YEAR TOO. HIS FINGERS IN HIS HAIR A NICE GAME OF SEDUCTION WHEN HIS FACE SUDDENLY APPEARS AFTER THESE. HE'S SOPHISTICATED AND NATURAL A WICKED ANGEL, AN INNOCENT DEVIL. THE COAT, THE CUT, THE SHOES... ALL. I'D LIKE TO HAVE HIM BETWEEN MY STUDENTS. ONE OF THE " SARTORIALIST AWARDS... OF GOLD".

TO REMEMBER: THE VISCONTI'S TADZIO WAS FROM SWEDEN

Blogger Linus Wallin said ... (2:52 PM) :

Hi hi! I know this kid!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:27 AM) :

If you know him, can you PLEASE find out where he got the wonderful coat...?
HUGE thanks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 PM) :

Not a look I would feel comfortable wearing but I think this guy can pull it off. (wear whatever you want, as long as you can pull it off! lol)

The hair looks great on him, today, but would get tiring pretty quickly. Still, though, sexy.

Cold weather dressing is a challenge. Protecting oneself from the elements without being completely lost in a bunch of fabric. He manages to be practical while revealing enough of himself to be both stylish and alluring. Sexy.

The pants suggest a great pair of legs. Great calves are hot. The white shirt adds weight to the top and helps him to emerge from the coat rather than being swallowed by it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

ouu, he looks like a panacea :D
young panacea

Blogger kalindoscopy said ... (12:13 PM) :

the munitions factory worker, apotheosized.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 PM) :

I just love the way he stands. He isnt posing, he just stands there and looks amazing.
I wanna know what he´s thinking...it looks like he know something we all want to know!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:59 PM) :

I'm afraid that I really am none too keen on this. The hair is too annoying for words.

Anonymous spiegs said ... (10:34 AM) :

No one has pointed out that his coat is actually a girls coat - the buttons are the wrong side for a boy. Not that it matters, it looks amazing. But still, buttons on the wrong side would confuse me...
