"C'est sexy au bout!"

But I would have thought this was NY if not for your "Paris" tag. He looks kinda "Americany."

Too cool for school! I like the unaffected freshness of this gent's look. Of course the white pocket-square is inspired! I diin't even care about the fact that his belt and shoes don't match (gasp, shock, horror)!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:20 AM) :

No. Don't get it. The white denim part anyway. Fall may be the only time of year white just does not work no matter how much I've tried. Would love to see it pulled off by someone though...just not happening here

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 AM) :

I like the way he matches a plaid shirt with a chalk stripe blazer - I'll try that. However, I think that his trousers/jeans are way too baggy.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (9:40 AM) :

I think he looks very nice!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:02 AM) :

White jeans isn't the only rule he's breaking here. He's not wearing socks in autumn, he's mixing brown and black, and he's wearing a black belt with brown shoes.

Bold, and I think it works for me. The only thing that makes me wonder is why he's wearing a scarf and no socks. Are his feet cold?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

He has a good sense of humour and looks cool and interesting. But his style cannot be copied by everyone.

Blogger ricpic said ... (10:42 AM) :

It's not the white pants that bother me; it's the brown shoes with white pants. I guess they're okay due to the brown hat he's wearing, but just barely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 AM) :

Trying WAY too hard to break 'the rules.'

Maybe if the white weren't soooo white. Maybe if the socklessness weren't soooo apparent. [Does he have tattoos on his ankles?]

Who said this guy's look was "unaffected?" This guy's picture is In The Dictionary.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (11:06 AM) :

A surprisingly strong opinion about what seems "affected" from someone calling themselves CK Dexter Haven!...hmmm

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:08 AM) :

Men in scarves; love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:21 AM) :

cold ankles

Blogger The Spicers said ... (11:39 AM) :

He looks fantastic! I love white denim for fall. There's no reason denim should be a summer fabric, and I'm all for breaking the rules and wearing white after Labor Day.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:42 AM) :

white jeans are timeless...isn't it tonne goodman that lives in them with black turtlenecks?...I think it was polly mellon that did an article once about wearing them with chocolate brown in the winter. yummy.

Blogger Cinderelliotte said ... (1:28 PM) :

buzz, wrong, sorry

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:28 PM) :

Something about this guy makes me think that this is normally how he dresses....it's not about fashion or trying to break any rules, just him being who he is.

I can dig it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:28 PM) :

Ouch, you tell him Scott! Oh ya, what are those pot things in the back???

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:31 PM) :

the longer i can go without socks, the longer i will.

fall, winter, there are no hard and fast rules... the jeans look great, rolled up a bit, with the shoes, the scarf, the HAT.

this is a very classic outfit with a few fun twists.

had he not been standing in the gardens, i would have taken him for american as well.

Blogger L'Henri said ... (3:15 PM) :

I don't like this look too much. It looks a little too unkept for me.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:16 PM) :

This outfit looks, for lack of better words, comical to say the least. Definitely just not that into this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:28 PM) :

CK Dexter Haven ha ha ha...even if the sockless rule breaker is trying a little too hard, I like him. In my opinion white jeans are always a little too "next year in St. Bart's" .

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:59 PM) :

The shoes make it, on this one. and the exposed ankles.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:21 PM) :

Rule-breaker or not seemingly affected or not, I like the way he looks and I'd give a second admiring look.

I often think those who always hold fast to the fashion "rules" are those without the courage to try different things, which sometimes don't alwways work.

Being affected is sometimes just wanting to look the way you choose to look and going for it.

Once, someone I knew only by sight called me affected for pronouncing the word "schedule" with a silent "c", the way the British do. When he realized I was from another country and culture where it was natural for me to do so, he felt a complete idiot. But even if I simply liked the way the word sounds pronounced that way, it would have been my choice to pronounce it as such.

One person's affectation is another's natural instincts.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 PM) :

White denim is timeless and seasonless! I love that you posted this and posed the question!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:54 PM) :

wow, white denim for Fall most definitely! the man's really inspirational, I like the length...

the rules are dated, they shouldn't have ever applied...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:49 PM) :

I like it! Although I think I might like it better if the jeans were a little longer and a slimmer cut to balance the bulkiness of the jacket and scarf.

Like this.

Blogger Travel the World with Me said ... (6:07 PM) :

i've always wondered that...does the whole no white shoes and white pants after labor thing apply to non-US countries???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:10 PM) :

The clothes ill-fitting, no socks with stiff shoes. Sure, that's the style, but he just doesn't look comfortable with the look. And not just because he is squinting in the sun, which is nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 PM) :

Mr. White Pants works because it is such a bright day. He does need socks.

Blogger Butch said ... (6:47 PM) :

Lovely and stylish--the hat is particularly grand.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 PM) :

whats wrong with no socks and a scarf? As long as you don't need gloves you don't need socks. There you have it, I made a new rule for all you who need them.

Blogger beecher said ... (12:05 AM) :

Love to see Mr. Fink wearing white after Labor Day. I believe there was an earlier picture of him wearing a white blazer ( i believe it was taken just after Labor Day)...! Rules were made to be broken and Mr. Fink sure breaks those rules well!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:52 AM) :

white denim?

sure, why not? obviously he's thought this through, and he's pretty much nailed.

however, socks please! it is november after all.

other than that, good job, paris guy!

Blogger Shamigo said ... (1:41 AM) :

I think you can wear white whatever time of year...Generally, I'm traditionalist when it comes to menswear, but this is a silly rule. I have a pair of slim white trousers that look just as well in the summer with a button down and loafers as they do in the fall with a light turtle neck and brogued chelseas.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 AM) :

White somewhat loose pants are actually neat.

Blogger Laurence John said ... (5:09 AM) :

i like this.
i think white in autumn is fine as long as it's a bright clear day as it is here. not grey and overcast.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:12 AM) :

Looks great. Classical and sexy ! Nice picture, thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:43 AM) :

kinda reminds me of...The Sartorialist!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 AM) :

Fantastic Mr.Fink!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:18 AM) :

I always liked white denim, especially when worn in winter. It was quite popular look last winter and it seams now it's spreading to fall too. On the other hand, sockless look should be reserved for summer exclusively.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:30 AM) :

It's very refreshing how the "rules" for fashion in the US (in this case about white and after Labor Day) don't really apply to other parts of the world, and yet "American" fashion is often historically referenced. The super-sartorial Japanese Men's fashion magazine "Men's EX" November issue features lots of white jeans for fall and winter supported with pictures from Italy of Pitti Uomo (probably from last winter).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:32 AM) :

Oh, I think he knows exactly what he's doing; it's amusing and makes me smile.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:48 AM) :

By the way, this gentleman is a fashion director for Saks... and he dresses this well every day. It's about an internal sense of style - this is not fake or forced.

Blogger Style Noir said ... (12:24 PM) :

White jeans are the truth, year 'round-- especially when one's skin is a glowing, golden brown.

Oh, wait... I'm supposed to be writing about him, not me...

Blogger the quarter rat said ... (2:41 PM) :

A surprisingly strong opinion about what seems "affected" from someone calling themselves CK Dexter Haven!...

Oh, snap!

(sorry, I'm from the south)

Blogger Luciferus said ... (11:18 PM) :

Wow, Herr Fink, what a firestorm you caused with your white pants, no socks, and browns and blacks! I think you look terrific, and I love the hat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:42 AM) :

The sunny, clear blue sky also makes the white denim work in this case.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:59 AM) :

I banish white denim to the fashion graveyard to be united with gi-normous peasant skirts & fugly cargo pants!

Blogger Luciferus said ... (8:45 AM) :

Just a thought: "I banish white denim to the fashion graveyard to be united with gi-normous peasant skirts & fugly cargo pants!" I was just wondering, is it because of your own, brave, trend-setting ways that you're... anonymous?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:38 PM) :

Lucifer:
Fashion/Personal Style doesn't NEED to be daring/trendsetting in order to be enjoyed by the wearer--these are mere outcomes after you've left your front door & the world observes your taste in motion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:53 PM) :

I don't find it that shocking that he's wearing white denim. Men in London, often City types (as in the real City men, not just the men who happen to work within the City) - guys who look like lawyers and investment bankers - often wear white/off white denim, tanned/brown leather shoes, navy jackets and a plain (often blue) shirt underneath. That's as a casual look, obviously they don't go to work dressed like that.
His trousers bother me because they're too high above the ankles and he's not wearing socks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:58 PM) :

Oops, they're not above the ankles, but they still look wrong.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

This is Michael Fink, the Fashion Director of Saks Fifth Avenue. I work with him and I have to say that he always looks impeccable.
