killer boots man.

Blogger Homo Ono said ... (9:45 AM) :

I love the idea of this but in practice I have to say it isn't very flattering. The bulk of the pockets falling on the midsection makes him look a dumpy. Also, it would be necessary to always wear a thick long sleeve sweater in order for the sleeve length on the coat to make any visual sense.

I love my Barbour coats. Their styling and practical design features make them "objet type" and I'm sure I'll still be wearing them 20 years from now.

you are one of my daily places to go. I stay a litle watch and normaly proceed on my regular visits. I have seen that you take pictures on preaty much the same cities, paris, ny, milano, and a few others. I would like to see(if you allow me that litle wish) pictures of other countries and Cities like São Paulo(brazil), México, Abidjan(Cote d'Ivoire), Marrocos Cape Town and show us a diferent look over diferent looks world wide. perhaps on your vacations if you have time for that.
ok, that´s only a wish, people are allowed to dream... any way i love your pictures just the way they are. But i wonder the pictures you would take on a diferent environment.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (10:23 AM) :

His jacket his cool!
It would've been much cooler if the bottom of the jacket was the same as the stretch-part of his sleeves.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:47 AM) :

it is strange because something about his look is very marc jacobs early 90's grunge...but I couldn't pin point it precisely, which is interesting. Disheveled sleek? His look looks good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 AM) :

that's funny, he dresses/slightly looks EXACTLY like my boyfriend

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 PM) :

Love, love is hair !!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:39 PM) :

You must have that face, that hair, that figure... to make this work.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:53 PM) :

YOUR BLOG FOR ME IS LIKE READING THE NEWSPAPER IN THE MORNING.
LOVE IT.
FORM BS AS

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:23 PM) :

Why read so much into this outfit? It's just a guy who got dressed in whatever was clean-ish. I see nothing remarkable here whatsoever. This look could be achieved by grabbing any random pair of pants, boots and jacket from your local consignment store.

This strikes me as just an example of trying to impose "fashion" onto this for the sake of just trying to be different...that one cannot be "stylish" or "hip" without acknowledging all looks, regardless of whether actual attention or intent went into the outfit.

SARTORIALIST,

I HAVE BEEN A KEEN ADMIRERER OF YOUR BLOG FOR A WHILE NOW AND I MUST SAY IT REALLY TAKES THE MIND OFF THE DAY BY DAY GRIND.

GRUNG HAS NO PLACE ON THIS BLOG...SO PLEASE ...STEP UP MATE WILL YOU?!!

Blogger FSK said ... (2:00 PM) :

i think he looks adorable.. meow meow!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:07 PM) :

i love this man AND his boots.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (2:10 PM) :

Love the cut of the coat, coming down lower in the back. It looks very Rick owens.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:26 PM) :

grungy or not, he is a babe

Blogger DJ FunkyGrrL said ... (3:32 PM) :

looks like he's ready to play guitar for a rock band

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:41 PM) :

The boots are great. I love how the pants are only loosely fit into the boots.

Blogger Butch said ... (3:43 PM) :

Sorry, but this is just too sloppy in every way.

Not to mention the strange visual disjunction of long legs with puddling pants and tiny, rear-clearing jacket.

Fie!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:02 PM) :

I love this man: he seems confident, fun and talented. Is he single?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 PM) :

I think this looks great. I wish I had the ultra-lean build to pull it off. Barbour is one of those old-school brands you want to love because of the quality/cost ratio, but I hate the cavernous cut of the jackets (and I'm of average build). Somehow this guy has got it right.

I wish The Sartorialist featured more of this type of menswear alongside the nice, but improbably natty, usual buttoned-up fare Scott is so fond of.

Blogger dnqcnn said ... (4:38 PM) :

his nonchalante attitude really works for him,, it looks like he's not trying too hard and thats really really working out good!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:49 PM) :

maybe this is thom browne's next gig after "black fleece:" "black barbour"???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:21 PM) :

Barbour coats are amazing. The older they are, the better.

Blogger Gretta said ... (6:12 PM) :

I have to say, I completely agree with Garth. I would not look twice at this guy if I passed him on the street (well, for clothing anyway). Bring back those girls in Paris, wearing the great yellow dresses!

Blogger Spacey said ... (7:11 PM) :

Wow, he is gorgeous. . .struck by his gaze. I'm always envious of folks who can pull off these simple chic looks that tell such interesting stories.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:11 PM) :

That coat! Sublime. And the details here a wonderful. I love the way his jeans crumple half tucked in to his boots.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:51 PM) :

Agree with jack daniel; with ribbing at the bottom and cuffs (what you see in photo is probably the sleeve-ends of a sweater), the jacket would be transformed into an elongated bomber jacket--a Barbour bomber, perfect with low-slung jeans, a surrealistic riff like the multiple collars at Viktor & Rolf couple seasons back...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 PM) :

look at those boots!
the whole look is amazing.

Blogger O!Lightning said ... (10:37 PM) :

oh yeah! I'm just totally lovin it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 PM) :

he may of put some thought into the look but do we we really need another well thought out, nonchalant grunge look?

What does it actually say about a person who tries so hard to look like sh*t? I say well done! You have achieved EXACTLY what you set out to achieve!!!

But then again the more pigeons in the world the better the peacocks look???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:20 AM) :

I like how he seems to have big, muscular hands. They are played up by the way they stick out of the jacket. He has an enviable head of hair too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:32 AM) :

Don´t get this one. I find absolutely nothing special in this picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 AM) :

I want a date with him too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:07 AM) :

His outfit looks quite cool. However, what is with thin guys that all girls run like crazy after them?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:15 AM) :

I bet it's the same barbour he used when he was 12. That's nice!

Blogger The Tokyo Modernistas said ... (10:59 AM) :

Im sorry, but this guy is so random.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 PM) :

Nice, but it only works because the guy is hot. If he was ugly or old, he'd be roundly criticized for this outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 PM) :

Oh, I don't mind a belly either. P.e. Alber Elbaz = great personality, charm and sence of style. Sart, could you please take a picture of him if you have any chance?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 PM) :

all i can say is that i want those pants. that and where did he get those pants, i guess.

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (1:25 PM) :

Awesome vintage look for guys.

Blogger An (ex) alien in new york said ... (2:28 PM) :

That's the women's utility jacket - fitted, four pockets (Hey, I worked in the park avenue store). Occasionall guys tried on the womens, but not often. Personally, i think a size up would have been better- That jacket is cut tight anyway, so he would have been able to pull of Homo ono's idea.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:55 PM) :

I'm surprised by the amount of negative comments because this guy is "grungy," which he really isn't if you see real grunge everyday. Anyway, I would appreciate a little bit more diversity like this, I get sick of seeing buttoned-up men in all the pictures. Thanks for this look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:48 PM) :

even though his look is simple and it might not be a glamorous outfit, his style comes through. For this outfit i notice that it was still neatly put together for example his pants being tucked into his shoes, his jacket nicely zipped up, and both his sleeves are at the same length.... also the facial expression, the paleness of his skin, his posture, and his careless hair presents his character and it totally gets to you which is what makes this photo so interesting

Blogger zuccotto said ... (9:33 PM) :

Have to laugh, I thought it was a woman's jacket and didn't post.

Not that I mind, as I, a woman, have a few mens' coats.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:17 AM) :

the barbour waxed cotton jacket is pure perfection of form/function. always stylish, never trendy. i can honestly say that mine is one of the best things i've ever owned and will continue to be so forever.

but if you wear it(or anything else)too small just to be hip, you lose the point. slim fit is one thing, simply too small is a silly thing.

surely, there is an eight year old boy somewhere (in the british countryside) who would do this tiny barbour more justice.

Blogger AL Boy said ... (2:27 AM) :

first off, everyone telling scott to stop shooting people like this...shut up! this kid has a lot of style in his outfit and i feel like i dress sorta like this sometimes. and secondly, those boots rule, i like how they kind of look slim and low profile, any ideas what they are? anyone? keep up the great work sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:56 AM) :

the buttons are on his right side though. i doubt that the picture was mirrorized.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:45 AM) :

barbour coats? i cant stand them.. every teenybopper in my class had it when i was in high school, the classroom smelled disgusting becuase of those hideous coats..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:58 PM) :

of course i love your posts with spiffed up men in suits and those parissen women in highly covetable dresses and shoes but i am in total appreciation of effortless, real, unpretentious style like this too. sometimes i yearn for it after failed attempts of looking immaculate

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:46 PM) :

why does this work? if i put that on (mind you i am female) i would look crap. if my boyfriend put that on he also would look crap. i gather its attitude and his way of life. cant be anything else. so keep up this street stuf, its far more interesting than the cult of personality bs that we have seen of late. we can get that from expensive magazines.

BTW, take your caps lock off fellow bloggers

Blogger Julia said ... (7:31 PM) :

Handsome AND stylish. I would definitely have noticed him if I had seen him.

I don't know how a Barbour can be 'grunge'; it's the epitome of the English country gent. I rather like how by wearing a shrunk down/woman's version on what looks like a pretty tall frame in a very urban environment this guy is kind of subverting the whole Home Counties berk with a gun that has so long been Barbour's classic/core frame of reference.

Well played, sir! ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:24 PM) :

wow i cant believe this this is my bud from work. You should just come to my job and take shots of evryone there because everyone has that sartorialistic style that u capture in your photos.
I am so serious. I work tribeca...I say this cause i know this guy here and i know the "painter" we all work at the same place.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 AM) :

holy hell, he's hot! I love the jacket and tousled hair.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:33 AM) :

to begin with i just want to say that i think is a pretty killer outfit. not exactly crazy original or particularly flamboyant but still well worn and i think, stylish.
for all of those saying grunge has no place on the sartorialist i would like to first point out that grunge, although not haute couture, is still a valid form of fashion expression.
and secondly as far as i can see the whole point of the sartorialist is to be inspired by the smaller elements of peoples personal styles and the innovative ways they may use clothing to express themselves, not necesarily to see an outfit in its entirety and define it as stylish or not.
peace out fellow lovely lovers

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:24 AM) :

it just makes me wanna hug him!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:49 AM) :

Looks dirty. Yuk.

Blogger Luiza Sauma said ... (5:55 AM) :

My boyfriend has worn a Barbour like this for years... Don't understand why some of you don't like this picture - it's refreshing, young and relaxed.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:26 AM) :

if you are tall and on the thinner side, this is the only way a barbour will fit your body -- they are cut very boxy...

Blogger L'Henri said ... (9:03 AM) :

I LOVE the proportions on this.
-The length of the sleeves acentuates his height. The tappered jeans, though not loose shows how he's not insecure by his height.
-The shoes are a nice finish, especially hugging the pants in to give it a "finish" look.
-the sweater's collar on the top coming out of the jacket is also a right length that doesn't look too sloppy or out of place.
-Sometimes dressing in monotone may get boring but the subtle colors of the shoes and the stark shades of black gives it this refreshing look.
-I love it!!

He is so wonderfully naturally cool looking he does not belong in New York.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 AM) :

The boots look a lot like the ones named Mukluk from http://www.yuketen.com/ShoeIndex.html

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:29 PM) :

I don't dislike the smell of barbours...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:38 PM) :

Ando - you know the Painter?! >sigh<

Still my absolute fave NY Sart heartthrob.

Where on earth do you work?

Blogger UESman said ... (12:22 AM) :

The bastardization of Barbour.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:59 PM) :

This is an average Joe who looks like he dressed in the dark.

I see no fashion content here at all.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:20 PM) :

Arent those shoes Clarks Wallabees?
They are wonderful and comfy! I have them, the woman variant.
I like Barbour jackets, I wish they would sell them in smaller sizes or slimmer fitted.
Uk size is up to 8 ?
I am size 6 (34)
(I m not from the UK so those jackets arent much available where I come from)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:21 AM) :

LOVE THIS

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:44 PM) :

I love my Barbour coats, and have for over twenty years. I even wear one of my fathers, heavily worn.

I understand style and what this young fellow with the nice hair is attempting to do, but it looks as though he is wearing an outgrown hand-me-down. To sum up my thoughts: buy a coat that fits.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 PM) :

There's something so beautiful and honest about this man.

Anonymous Barbour Jacket said ... (6:21 AM) :

You wear that barbour jacket well, which type is it? i can't quite tell without seeing a close up of the jacket
