On the Street.....Rainy Day, New York

Besides the fact that her bag is bigger than her (which is a bit endearing, isn't it?) I love this look. She looks great especially for a rainy day! Her accessories really make the outfit.

Blogger Florence said ... (9:45 AM) :

This is so pretty! My favorite so far!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:49 AM) :

Great coordination. Those shoes are to be coveted.

mltt

Blogger Alicia said ... (9:51 AM) :

Fantastic. Gotta love the splash of red in the heels and bag. I love that she kept the slim shilouette except for the focus pieces.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (9:51 AM) :

I hate rain. It rains 364 days a year in The Netherlands. Blegh!!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (9:53 AM) :

She wears skinny jeans well, and those shoes are beautiful!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:00 AM) :

Look at those cuffs!

Blogger ricpic said ... (10:01 AM) :

Who's in control, the girl or the bag?

Blogger Dillon Thompson said ... (10:04 AM) :

These are the kind of photos that make you feel glad. Beautiful color in the shoes and bag against the cool cement. Very foxy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:14 AM) :

Wow... what a style.. and personality. Nes

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:24 AM) :

the girl is hot!

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (10:32 AM) :

I like this narrow silhouette. Initially, I reacted to the red bag as being too big, but then I decided it was a cool proportion. I like that it's so giant, juxtaposed with her dainty red shoes.

The voluminous scarf is a nice counterpoint to all that narrow black and the punctuation of the red.

Blogger Rachel said ... (10:32 AM) :

I've just moved from the sunny south to the north (lots of cloudy, rainy, blustery days). As a result, I stopped 'dressing.'

This picture made me change out of my jeans and tee and 'dress.'

It's amazing what 'dressing' can do for the mood-Thanks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:48 AM) :

So cute! I love the proportions of her outfit. And her shoes!

Blogger Anne Corrons said ... (10:59 AM) :

that's another red bag I really love! I should buy one!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 AM) :

Wow, it's intriguing to see that women don't care about the rain at all and wear what ever they like. I'm not so sure if I would have chosen the beautiful shoes in the rain :-)

Blogger Megan Younce said ... (11:11 AM) :

Perfect!

Blogger DS said ... (11:13 AM) :

I love her accessories, to me the shoes make the outfit, and that bag wow so large jajaja.

Blogger G said ... (11:21 AM) :

She's fly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 AM) :

Her bag and shoes really pop against the rained pavement in this pictures - love it! Also love the skinny jean combo too (don't care if they are on the way out).

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:34 AM) :

Wonderful composition. I love the soft look of the scarf tied around the t-neck. And the red on red (is that a Blackberry she is holding against the red bag?)

The skinny jeans look is nailed here. She looks confident and comfortable.

Blogger PeaceSignWithChocolate said ... (11:46 AM) :

This is just perfect. She really knows how to dress for her shape and the colors are right on. I love the giant bag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 AM) :

Wow is she beautiful. She's even got me reconsidering red.

I never understand all the big bag hating. What's not to love about a big bag? Especially one as gorgeous and beautifully worn as this one.

Blogger Johanna said ... (11:57 AM) :

What a stunning, stunning face. I barely even noticed the clothes, which is saying something, because she is very well put together.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:59 AM) :

Besides maybe the shoes, I'm having trouble seeing what is particularly notable about this. She looks like a thousand women I see every day.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 PM) :

she looks great. i love a red bag in the rain. bright bags and shoes really make my day.

Blogger Ashley Pittman said ... (12:13 PM) :

this girl is smokin'

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 PM) :

She's beautiful and looks great. Her shoes are especially nice. That said, haven't we seen this look many times before?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 PM) :

I know that girl, as beautiful as she is, she's even more beautiful on the inside!

Blogger fabulous girl said ... (12:58 PM) :

Must ... have ... bag ...

Details, s'il vous plaît?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:01 PM) :

I don't know what's wrong with me (maybe there isn't after all...), but I don't like high heels! Her feet look sore, and her legs would look equally nice in a pair of flats.
Now that's that said once and for all, eh?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 PM) :

wonderful shoes!!

despite of the fact that fashion trends tells skinny jeans are ended, i think it's now a standard, and i really love when a girl wear them this way.

Love the giant bag too, even if everything in it could fit inside a purse bag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:19 PM) :

omg! a lot of charm

Blogger Jayce said ... (1:22 PM) :

dangit. I think I have the same jeans.

Blogger O!Lightning said ... (1:34 PM) :

She looks hotsietot, our word for Fab! Watch out for the puddles. I'm so a couterintuitive shoe person and often go out on a raiy day with the wrong/right shoes. Just like this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:42 PM) :

obvious natural beauty aside, her presentation is rather uninspiring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:57 PM) :

I don't get it. Skinny jeans, dark jacket, pashmina, heels, over sized bag in bold color. It's been done 1000 times.

Blogger christa said ... (2:05 PM) :

so lovely. makes me wish it rains here on oahu a little ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:25 PM) :

It's so ridiculously hard to look good when it's raining. She manages it well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:34 PM) :

Great silhouette and accessories. I'm impressed that she wore those heels in the rain. I am far too practical!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:38 PM) :

Oh! I love colorful bags and that one would fit perfectly in my collection! Gotta love the picture!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:47 PM) :

soooo BEAUTIFUL. completely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:51 PM) :

What label is the bag??

Blogger Travel the World with Me said ... (3:06 PM) :

rainy day fashion. i like it. everything around her looks phenomenal. me likey...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:06 PM) :

Oh my God. She's simply wonderful. I like the whole outfit... and that bag.. oh... <3 <3 <3 <3

Francesca

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:07 PM) :

Those shoes are fierce!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:08 PM) :

she looks great, indeed. but sunglasses? it's raining. sigh - the obsession w/accessories.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:10 PM) :

That's right Stephanie she looks great, her bag is a bit bigger than she is but I think that we can forgive her that becuase this bag is also great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:18 PM) :

perfect skinny jeans. great choice of bag and shoes for that weather. but you know - everthing would be boring without her smile :)

Blogger magia1980 said ... (3:20 PM) :

This woman look great. I admire her greatly that she walks without tights or socks at the seasons of the year.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 PM) :

Ho, hum. I wholeheartedly agree with anon 1:57 - this is the most overdone combo around (even down to the way she's tied her scarf). The bag is cute, yes - the shoes nice too. But even here in not-always-fashion-forward Toronto, I've seen this exact look a million times.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (3:40 PM) :

For Anon 3:32

I also see this type of look often but this was a well-executed version. The shoes did it for me

again I am not here to only show "fashion forward"

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (4:04 PM) :

So beautiful! Perfect!

Blogger Stitch Society said ... (4:26 PM) :

She's adorable

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 PM) :

Love it. Sigh... I love shoes, especially this pair! I think this kind of outfit always looks good, and gorgeous shoes in bright colors will go a long way toward that.

Blogger mydrid said ... (4:29 PM) :

the shoes are incredible, where can i buy them?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 PM) :

for those of you asking, i believe it's a chloe bag. talk about a rainy day woman, she looks fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 PM) :

Anyone knows who the shoes are from ?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 PM) :

She looks so charming, so cool, but wasn't she a bit cold with no socks?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

To Jack Daniel,

I spent summer 2006 in Amsterdam and I remember they were many shiny, sunny, gorgeus days! Oh, Amsterdam! What a great place it is!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:08 PM) :

I think she looks good, but not apropiate with the weather... Any shots of people in a rainy day who look nice, but yet, practical?

Blogger Ely said ... (5:08 PM) :

In first time you see a girl in jeans and a blazer, but suddenly your eyes stop at the beautiful red bag and those wonderful shoes, and all your previous vision is completely different

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:11 PM) :

Of couse Sart, I agree with you. 'Fashion forwarded' shots are cool, but the nice thing about the sartorialist is that you can find ordinary people that aren't suposed to strike you, but if you look carefully, you'll always find a twist here and there...

Blogger g.lock said ... (5:15 PM) :

so classy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:16 PM) :

I love how the red shoes have a little yellow in them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:18 PM) :

She is using the sunglasses to hold her hair back, isn't she? I'm not sure about this way of using them?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:20 PM) :

She looks great. It is always difficult to look wonderful in the rain but she does!!! The neutral navies and greys are punched up with the big red bag and the red shoe accents. She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn.

Blogger unoqueopina said ... (5:32 PM) :

This shot is beautiful not only for the clothing, but for it's great photographic value.
Thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:39 PM) :

another one that could wear a bag and look great. she is gorgeous.

Blogger Emma said ... (5:57 PM) :

her jeans fit her well...i don't personally think skinny jeans will ever be "out"...they're just one of those things that are more popular at one point and then something else becomes more dominant...but they're still always there in the background, waiting for someone to start the trend again in a new way

plus wide leg pants aren't that practical for me, i'm 5 feet tall, i'll always love my skinnies

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:48 PM) :

Very beautiful, but rain? Those shoes are ruined, and where's her umbrella?

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (6:56 PM) :

for pres10514

i didn't have an umbrella either
a rainy day doesn't mean it rains continuously all day

we have to use our imagination a little more

maybe she just got out of a taxi, the subway is only a block from that spot

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:57 PM) :

She's just perfect! I cannot imagine a better, more adorable look.

Blogger Blaise said ... (8:20 PM) :

I find it somewhat hard to look hot in rainy or winter clothes.. but she looks the part..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:46 PM) :

Gorgeous shot, Sart! Dark, wet pavement is always so photogenic and the big, red bag in the center of the photo is so beautiful...I don't know how else to put this...my eyes are very happy. hahaha.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:53 PM) :

I like the outfit. It is not an androgynous look, but it is similar in tone--simple, polished, put together--to the way some men dress. The scarf and sunglasses complete the outfit and who knows, weather can change.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 PM) :

will i die without ever seeing one post that doesn't have the comment "reminds me of Audrey Hepburn" in it? get a little creative people..

Blogger blah said ... (8:58 PM) :

Now, she looks gorgeous!

Blogger em said ... (9:31 PM) :

ah she is so cute!

so i guess there are more footwear options for rainy days than galoshes or converse, huh?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 PM) :

she's so pretty!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 PM) :

aaahhh what an adorable girl, look at her so happy to show off her bag...she can probably fit in it;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 PM) :

She looks to be oblivious to the dreariness around her - I'm liking the look of optimism. :) I'm also drawn to how these trendy items don't give her the look of a victim - she makes them her own. Striking!

Blogger pearlaceous said ... (10:29 PM) :

She looks great! And knowing that it was raining makes her look even better.. Her style is effortless

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:03 PM) :

the contrast here is beautiful! i am definitely coveting that bag. i must know where it comes from!

i love seeing simple/trendy-styled outfits that have a special something to them :)

Blogger Françoise said ... (11:09 PM) :

she looks like a dancer. adorable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:15 PM) :

it's cute, but her feet are probably cold, and such beautiful shoes will probably take a real beating in the rain, unless she doesn't actually need to walk anywhere. i speak from experience... having almost ruined some favorite fabric-covered heels. even with off-and-on rain, you can't control uneven pavement and puddles. i'm trying to stick to boots nowadays.

Blogger Calenna said ... (11:39 PM) :

Oooh add this one to my collection of faves too! Her entire outfit is great - and makes ME totally motivated to dress for a rainy NY day too. The colors, composition, her expression - everything about this is perfect!

Blogger Khanh said ... (12:24 AM) :

She's a vision in the rain. Gorgeous!! Thanks Sart.

Blogger Shimochan said ... (12:44 AM) :

For the Chloe bag http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/16508

The picture made my day! Thank you!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 AM) :

It's hard to notice the great style behind the beauty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 AM) :

It's kind of cool. I hate just about everything she's wearing individually, but in combination I completely love all of it. Great color punches with the red and grey.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 AM) :

Girl's hot, bag's a cliche. Girl deserves better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 AM) :

I love her bag, I love the colour combination with the shoes.. she is just lovely :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:41 AM) :

i love this look! i realize it's not fashion forward, but i think i would be uncomfortable/made fun of if i wear some of the stuff you post because as much as i love it, it's too edgy and would not work on a daily basis for a small-ish town like the one i live in. this kind of look is cute and fashionable without drawing too much attention. thanks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 AM) :

No more skinny jeans.PLEASE!PLEASE!
Not with flats, high heels or tucked into boots.
They look dated - it is as simple as that.

Blogger Glo ♥ Matilda Mota said ... (4:36 AM) :

ESPECTACULAR!!!!!!
SIMPLY,LESS IS MORE!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:37 AM) :

Loooove the bag! :-) The combination shoes-bag. Me like a lot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 AM) :

To be quite honest she could shove me into that beautiful bag and I'd happily live my life in her shadow, so to speak. Obviously exaggerating, but what a beautiful woman and how well-dressed. Simple yet utterly gorgeous.

Blogger Vistiendo a Candela said ... (5:31 AM) :

Perfect

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:03 AM) :

Re bag: does anyone know what brand/make it is?

Re outfit: yes it has been done (to death) like others have said before, but it still looks nice so what does it matter? You can't be groundbreaking everyday, right? ;)

On another note, keep up the good work with the the blog! Always fun to read ^_*

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 AM) :

I love everything about the ensemble. Looks perfectly organic on her. Specially the bulkyness of the scarf.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 AM) :

She is hot !!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:49 AM) :

A beautiful girl. Surely a model too. I like her relaxed look. The big red bag is great. Surely it is also practical for all her stuff. The only thing that´s bothering me,is why the sunglasses are necessary on a rainy day? But maybe she want´s some privacy like celebs do!?

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:44 AM) :

After viewing this image yesterday I was inspired to wear my heels (work shoes) home last night. Hopping off the bus and turning down my street I realized I wouldn't want to wear my really nice shoes in the rain! Sure she looked great but those pretty shoes won't last! Of course, she could be a "cab-girl" like I used to be when I first arrived in Gotham! I love my shoes, love, and will sacrifice the "look" for the duration of the journey to take care of them. Besides, there are some really fun and stylish "walking" shoes to buy. Half the fun of living here is walking!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:35 AM) :

She's very cute and looks like she has a personality to back it up. I agree though, I see a lot of girls dressed like this...not to say that this particular one doesn't look great doing it. However, a girl like this could probably pull off something much more forward and daring. I need to leave LA and go to NYC.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:59 PM) :

She is absolutely disarming. bp

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:18 PM) :

Mm, I especially love how she's taken a run of the mill scarf and arranged it so that it appears to have an almost feather-like texture. She's taken ordinary and turned it into something unique, so that, at a glance, you can't quite put your finger on what sets her apart..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:21 PM) :

What a great photo. Love the shoes and the smile in particular.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:24 PM) :

i'm not gonna read all the comments because i'm lazy, but i just don't get why ppl seem to think big bags are odd. Bags should be the size you NEED them to be so that you can carry whatever you need to carry. I feel like the Big bag "trend" is old already. It's just really practical for gals that need to be out all day for instance. And they can look really good (like any size of bag) if well designed.
The girl in the picture looks apropriate and she's a beautiful girl. Not too good not bad either. Just so for everyday life.

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (2:31 PM) :

Love the coordination of colors. It's not too perfect (or she would be trying too hard)but perfect enough (to say, oh, this ole thing!)

BTW, is she wearing stretch jeans?

Blogger Peter Nguyen said ... (3:48 PM) :

What a fox!

Blogger Olimpia Liberti said ... (4:11 PM) :

A touch of Balenciaga and Chloé.
Loooove her red bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:49 PM) :

Love her red bag!!!!!!

Blogger Spandrel Studios said ... (7:09 PM) :

Big enough to tote a bowling ball, cheery enough to make rainy day art. I love that bag.

Dear Sart,

the composition is flawless. A true signature-image of your better street style.

Keep it up!

Blogger Amanda said ... (9:23 AM) :

I love this look! A little casual and a little fancy at the same time.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:57 AM) :

Wow - fabulous shot! She is wonderful however the shiny pavement makes it dramatic.

Blogger Jauad said ... (4:47 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 AM) :

not that i don't love and want everything she is wearing, but i am particularly interested in her scarf... any tips?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 AM) :

I don't know why (maybe it's the rain? her slim build? the way she ties her scarf? her lovely smile? the simple look well accessorized?) but she really puts me in mind of several Austrian girls I know.

Blogger Vanya Du Toit said ... (4:20 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 PM) :

whoa! girl is gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 PM) :

The bag is the Chloe Edith Bowler and is hard to find since it goes back several seasons. I love it in this red color. I have it in the regular sized version in "jade". Great bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:19 AM) :

I was talking on the phone scrolling through your pics. This made me stop and say out loud great picture. I think she looks amazing! You have got a great eye!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:17 AM) :

Blogger Panda said ... (2:57 PM) :

I admire anyone who can walk around in heals on a rainy day in New York and still smile. Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 PM) :

Well, even if you see the same combination from time to time in big cities (even here in Montreal, being one of those girls) I still think this is such a powerful and flattering look, it doesn't matter if it's not entirely original...!

What do you expect on a rainy day anyways? ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

I think her look is great! I just need to control instinctively squinting my eyes because the result is scary!!
How boring to still read comments about how dated something looks. I find it amazing that there are still peaople who think that for something to look good it needs to be cutting-edge or 'in fashion'; that's not what style is about, thats what fashion victims are about.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:03 PM) :

Love it! grayish outfit with a splash of gorgeous red is divine. she's got the body that will look good in everything, but her lovely genuine smile that make her look even more fantastic

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:17 PM) :

love the bag. love the scarf. love the jeans. love the hair. I just looooOOOve it!!

there's one more example that great things come in small packages and big bags.. hahaha
the look is awsome... sexy chic

To pres10514, I could fit a dozen fold-up umbrellas in that bag. That’s the magic of huge bags; they fit all the regulars plus umbrellas, a cardigan/sweater, a pair of flat shoes, a water bottle and lunch, books/magazines/work/laptop, hats and a small evening clutch, jewellery and top to change into. Oh and gym gear of course. A big bag takes the impossible out of being dressed well when there’s four seasons in one day and makes the wearer look tiny!
God, I do love this bag so much.
The look may have been done over a thousand times so more but this is such a perfect example of what every woman is striving for [yet not achieving]. I’m very impressed by her understated elegance. She doesn’t look like she’s trying hard to be noticed and fashion-forward but she’s just lovely as she is.
And those shoes! I noticed them in a magazine last year I think… maybe longer ago. They’re so perfect. Crochet I think?
I’m more and more in love with this picture every time I look at it.

well said, Saba! The skinny jeans are extremely flattering on her, who cares what year they are supposed to be assigned to?

Blogger trinity said ... (5:22 PM) :

I love the bag, and the shoes, but the sunglasses on top of her head are hard to love. They look like bug eyes. Her scarf is wonderful.

What throws me in this image, is the peep toe show and sunglasses on a rainy day. While most likely fine any other time, I think boots would have tied it all together better.
