On The Street........That Tee, Those Glasses, Manhattan

Carine Roitfeld and Olivier Lalanne asked me to shoot Fall '08 sunglasses for Vogue Homme International on real men that I found on the streets of New York.

On the second day of shooting I almost fell over when I saw this guy crossing Madison Ave. wearing that tee.

What a perfect thing to wear for a shot of sunglasses.

Anyway, this is my favorite shot of that story that will be available here in the US any day now.

that tee is so funny!!!!!!!!!!!!! so realistic in a surrealistic way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:13 AM) :

Wow. Just wow. There is nothing of the traditional fashion canon that he applauds but he expresses such an attitude!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:20 AM) :

What a cute T-shirt.Would even be ok without the necklace.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:32 AM) :

one word - Awesome!

Blogger Thibaut said ... (8:35 AM) :

What model/brand are these glasses according to you, readers ?

Blogger FeiraChic said ... (8:58 AM) :

I like the shades, and the tee is cute. I don't like the necklace though...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:05 AM) :

Necklace...or Prayer Beads? Either way- it's a brilliant shot/look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 AM) :

kismet baby, kismet. perfect.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (9:42 AM) :

Adorable!

Blogger Butch said ... (9:58 AM) :

Proving that there IS a god(dess), such that one can look and have delivered this superior item for photographing.

It's the chain, though, that "finishes" the look, and adds a wonderful dollop of the "look-twice" surreal.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

yes but...he's cheating.

The guy's fashion sense and humor is perfection.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:08 AM) :

what a grqat photo!! love that t-shirt.. so you are till in NYC.. thought I'd find you over in London for the fashion week ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

That was the hardest I've laughed at a t-shirt ever. Would using that picture in an add incur any sort of problems from where ever that shirt came from? I'd love to see that shot used somewhere.

Blogger stacy said ... (10:43 AM) :

It's his smile that makes the tee that much more realistic...the proud papa grin.

Great shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:47 AM) :

Will u post the other pics to can't wait to chreck them out

Blogger Allison said ... (10:48 AM) :

does anyone know where that tee shirt is from its amazing

Blogger From Gullah to Ghetto and now Ivory Tower said ... (10:50 AM) :

So whimsy in fashion isn't dead? This guy is having fun and it is most certainly a good look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

really cool..t shirt and sunglasses !!

Blogger nfw said ... (11:31 AM) :

hahah

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:55 AM) :

Perfection. Handsome, hilarious. I am at a loss for words to describe how delightful I find this picture. It is the ideal showcase for the glasses, and yet it is also an antidote to those who can sometimes take fashion too seriously. I hope editors, stylists, and designers will continue to be schooled by this site. ;-)

Blogger Style Noir said ... (12:08 PM) :

Brilliant! Just brilliant...

Blogger david hayes said ... (12:21 PM) :

Best. Shirt. Ever.

Blogger Claris said ... (12:31 PM) :

Priceless. I love how the necklace frames the "baby"'s face.

Blogger aNNa*FrOst said ... (12:49 PM) :

damn cool!
i had to look twice! ;.)

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (1:12 PM) :

This is a great shot, Sart, from a purely technical point of view. However, I just don't see the attraction. Nothing personal, but I would cross the street to avoid someone wearing that tee and those glasses.

Blogger marie said ... (1:28 PM) :

Wow! That almost looks like he is actually carrying a baby! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:40 PM) :

Made me laugh out loud. Great tee, even better expression.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:41 PM) :

Brilliant! I laughed out loud. A sunnily sly comment on the current Manhattan fashion accessory de rigueur: the baby in the Bjorn.

The necklace is smart because it's truly 3-dimensional, which, sitting on top of the trompe l'oeil image of the baby, makes the piece of jewelry more 'real' than the baby.

Very intelligent, sharp but friendly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:59 PM) :

25 EUROS TO ANYONE WHO CAN NAME, IDENTIFY AND CONFIRM WHERE THAT BRILLIANT T-SHIRT CAN BE BOUGHT AND WHIC BRAND IT IS!!? BUT SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!

ITS REALLY QUITE INGENIOUS AND I WANT TO HAVE IT COME WHAT MAY!!

-HOGAN-

PS.

NOT AT ALL OVERLY KEEN ON THE CHAPS ´PRAYER´ BEADS THOUGH, I HASTEN TO ADD!!!

Blogger WendyB said ... (2:30 PM) :

That's hilarious.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:34 PM) :

It would be more ironic and socio-political if he wasn't of Euro-descent, actually. Like a Benetton ad gone haywire.

Still, cute pic of a cute dude.

Blogger -S said ... (2:38 PM) :

i LOVE the t-shirt, and i agree, what luck finding him to model sunglasses! good job!

Blogger Style Salvage Steve said ... (2:42 PM) :

I actually thought this was a real baby and you had diversed into diper style! Both freaky and awesome. I want it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:15 PM) :

I wonder if that is a photo of his own baby? Or if those are commercially available t-shirts. It's great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

glasses might be Cazals. hope they don't become a trend. because they rule.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 PM) :

Where did he get that shirt? I want that so bad

Blogger AJ said ... (3:49 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:45 AM) :

Would be even cooler if Paul Frank custom makes those shirts using an image of your own kid.

Unless that is the point and I've missed it :D

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 PM) :

i think the glasses are louis vuitton. they are originally sunglasses. it looks like he got the lenses removed and replaced with prescription lenses. smart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 AM) :

so awesome. i was just considering trompe l'oeil as a possible fashion trend the other day (don't ask me where that came from). and the necklace is a smart accessory. whoever said they'd cross the street to avoid him- who could be scared of a man with such a sense of humor and coy grin?? one certainly couldn't have a normal day wearing something like this.

also, am i the only other person who reads most of the comments before posting? i highly suggest doing so, before asking a question that's been previously posted and answered seven other times :)

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:12 AM) :

This is what new york fashion is all about. Induvidual style, and humor with such a creative edge. This young man doesn't have to speak a word about his ideas and viewpoints. He gets it and ignores it at the same time. He needs to be at some of these boring dreadful magazines that could use a fresh approach

Blogger Bel said ... (2:24 AM) :

Awwwwww.....that is just gorgeous. Definitely one of my faves from your blog Sart - brought a big smile to my face :oD

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:06 AM) :
