On The Street........Serious Fun With Patterns & Prints, Manhattan

I am going to have to seriously reconsider this look when I'm putting together my wardrobe for next summer.

I love the fun factor of the shorts and the overall pattern mixing.

I really like the mix of the patterns on the top half of his outfit, but not so sure about the bottom half... it kind of looks like he forgot his pants. I like the print on the shorts--that print would look fantastic as a cute summery skirt.

This would be A++ if only the jacket were missing, I think. He's a cutie and I love those shoes!

Blogger Thomas said ... (6:59 PM) :

I hope you seriously reconsider seriously reconsidering that outfit. I just don't know what's happening with shorts that length and those kinds of shoes without socks. To my eye it looks like he competely ignored what those patterns do to each other

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:11 PM) :

I like the tops but not the bottom. Looks like girly boxer shorts! : P

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:23 PM) :

I. LOVE. IT.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:18 PM) :

Wasn't he here before? And does he still have no pants?

Blogger simplyolive said ... (8:22 PM) :

it's fun, but it looks like he forgot his pants. (sorry, but a printed short like that just looks like boxers to me...)

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:07 PM) :

i absolutely love this! very imaginative! i love it when guys really have a sense a style and not only that but know how to have fun with their wardrobe choices! great outfit!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:26 PM) :

Love the look, pass on the hairy legs! LOL!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:34 PM) :

the patterns are nice - my favourite part of this, though, is the colour combination. the shorts are intriguing, but perhaps he could try a smaller print...?

Blogger John and Beatrice said ... (9:36 PM) :

A round of applause offered on the shorts. These were featured in Christopher Bailey's Summer 2006 Prorsum Burberry collection. They were showcased on the runway with a simply henley on top. I've wondered if they could ever be pulled off successfully on the street. And I see that they have. Against the backdrop of a NYC overwhelmed and underwhelmed by horrid cargo shorts, this is a testament to the genius of Mr. Bailey. Yea!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:39 PM) :

What's to reconsider, now? This is wrong on so many levels...but it mostly has to do with the short pants and man-leg-hair.

Like "anon 6:49," this may have worked better sans manteau.

Otherwise, it's a Freudian cry for attention. Not that that's bad but you really have to have swagger to make it work. And since there's no viddie, Sart, we can't tell if he had enough swagger to carry this costume.

Hey, esp. in summer and esp. with the state of the world...I'm thinking fun is underrated and we need more of it. I'm sick of boring/tasteful. I'm appreciating more and more people who are having fun with their clothes (even if I wouldn't wear what they're wearing). I saw a guy the other day wearing an outfit that was a symphony of orange--all elements composed of various orange prints, plus orange sneakers. He cheered me up like nobody's business.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 PM) :

I agree with Thomas, come on let's be serious why wear your boxers out in public??? We appreciate the art of mixing patterns, it just does not work!
Cute guy though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:18 PM) :

The shorts are summer 06 burberry prorsum. Bailey did a pant in that patern as well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:42 PM) :

No. No. No. No. No! Sart. Maybe in Animal House, but c'mon. I can't find anyting RIGHT about this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:07 PM) :

thomas
you took the words right out of my head.
yeah, sart, do some serious reconsidering before you reconsider.

Blogger Dennis Mai said ... (11:12 PM) :

Those look like silk boxers.

Blogger Jane Flanagan said ... (11:12 PM) :

I think the danger is looking too convoluted. He has a lovely air of carelessness in the ensemble that makes me feel like he didn't at all overthink it. It gives it all a laid-back "don't judge too hard" vibe. Of course, he may have planned this for hours...

Blogger Dennis Mai said ... (11:12 PM) :

Those shorts look like silk boxers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 PM) :

I agree they look like boxer shorts- the length, the print, and even the button! Love the rest, though.

Blogger Butch said ... (11:40 PM) :

Yes to the pattern mixing; no to the shorts, whose short looseness makes them look like bathing trunks. Jury's out on the shoes....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 AM) :

It is nice to see that that it is still that warm in NY. Where I live, no shorts this summer anymore. I don´t like his outfit at all. Here again shoes, hairy legs and no socks.Luckily the color palette of his clothes is noy so bad,the mixmax of patterns doesn´t pop out so dramatically.

Blogger stacy said ... (12:49 AM) :

The three contrasting patterns are the theme. And the theme is the tie that binds. Brilliant.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 AM) :

It's a great look for the young and pretty. On someone older or heavier or less well-groomed, those same mixed prints would at best read as cluelessness.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:21 AM) :

Is he the same guy , previously photographed in Milan beside a fantastic girl with wonderful legs?. Unfortunately this time he has been left alone , wearing awful beach shorts in an urban context.

Angelo

Blogger emily said ... (1:24 AM) :

I immediately thought it looks like he forgot his pants. Then I gave it a second chance. No, it still looks like he forgot his pants. Otherwise, a nice looking man.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 AM) :

Hairy legs are great!!! I find him almost smooth... but sexy in those almost porn/posh boxer inspired shorts

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:24 AM) :

Yeah, but the shoes are what really ties this ensemble together.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:17 AM) :

Oh NO!

Blogger Landis said ... (12:30 PM) :

thank god. not another cargo shirt with an abercrombie washed down woven!

i'd lose the jacket, but still. . . bravo for breaking a mold.h

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:49 PM) :

What a cute guy. In case people are wondering, he dashed out of my place this morning and forgot his pants...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 PM) :

I love the pattern mixing, but I agree with a previous poster who says it looks like he forgot to put on his pants that day.

Blogger O!Lightning said ... (3:51 PM) :

for some reason I think a belt would have been a good idea, working back to the shoes. I like it a lot.

And to all you man hair phobes out there, get a grip, most men are hairy and they still look hot!

Blogger Duy said ... (7:45 PM) :

Those shorts would look okay in Austin with a white t-shirt and flip-flops. Otherwise, this looks overdone.

Blogger jamesylala said ... (8:48 PM) :

It's pure JOY. How great to see a fun mix of pattern, cut, and texture. It is unforgivable how stolid and dire men are expected to dress. We have survived world wars, disease, and two terms of G. Bush; for goodness sakes, playful attire is a relief from the ditum of safe dressing. Not only shoul you revisit this look next year, I pray you exploit a little more playful and daring looks that cross your path, S. I've seen you on the street in W. Chelsea and the Meat Packing..you look great. Give us all a reason to explore or persona through wardrobe. Lovingly , Jamesy

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 PM) :

Got to go against the crowd with this one: L-O-V-E it! Such a refreshing change from boring juvenile cargo shorts and flip flops. And great legs don't hurt. By the by, MEN are supposed to have hairy legs.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:47 AM) :

At first I had doubts about this, but the colours are really delicate--I really doubt it would work like this if the colours were any brighter or even a bit more vibrant.

And I do love the shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:08 PM) :

This man has wonderfully shaped legs ..or as my grandma would say..his legs are smashing!
I really like the colour palate of his wardrobe, it's soft and delicate and it holds the ensemble together. I agree with a lot of the other posters, his style is quirky and playful and it looks like this man enjoys getting dressed in the morning. I love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:39 AM) :

MONDIEU!
This guy forgot to put his pants on this morning.
But a smart smiling face could compensate the missing pants.

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (5:46 AM) :

Sorry but this kind of shorts reminds me of underwear. He looks like he forgot to put on his pants...please reconsider reconsidering.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:56 PM) :

please please only consider this look if you are at a beach club, the short are nice but don't you think that they look like fun boxer shorts?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:42 PM) :

The only thing wrong with this look is the bur-belt across his shins. He should stop in at Astor Barbers and Have a nice 'fade' done on them.

Please try to remember folks, fashion only moves ahead by individuals taking risks. This guy gets Kudos for panache!

Blogger joan.thullbery@gmail.com said ... (11:44 PM) :

VERY nice legs
