3 Big Announcements at The Sartorialist

I have been really busy this summer and a lot of those efforts are now big announcements.

1. I have signed a contract with CondeNet allowing them to handle ad sales for my blog.

I have lasted two years with no ads but Condenet is a great partner (an industry leader) that will be able to deliver advertisers that work within the spirit of this blog. I resisted ads for two years because i didn't want to do Google ads or have to hunt for ads myself which would have taken me away form my top priority if shooting on the street. This money will help me with more self-funded trips to places like South America, more of Northern Europe and Asia (just to name a few). Also it will allow me to hire someone that can keep up on computer-based projects like "The Shopping Guide" and "The SartoriaList" while I ,again, can fully focus on shooting. NetaPorter.com will be the first advertiser starting on or about Sept. 6th.

2. I have signed with Jed Root which is one of the top international agencies for fashion photographers, stylist. hair and make-up etc.
I am really excited to be in the same agencies as established star photographers such as Michael Thompson, Diego Uchitel, Koto Bolofo.
Up to now I have paid the bills with a mix of special projects and editorials which have been very time consuming. Now working with the team at Jed Root I will be able to work on editorials and ads that fit my style and schedule while leaving the paperwork, etc to the team so I can continue to shoot.

3. I will also be working with Danziger Projects to handle print sales and exhibits. Again, I am super excited to be in such an elite group of artists. Chuck Close is amazing and I am honored to be in his company. I have been working on prints lately and if you like the quality of the images on the blog then you will love the print quality because it is even better.

I have two or three other projects still in work that I might be able to announce soon.

I just want to thank everyone for their support over the last two years. When i started The Sartorialist I thought it would be fun to put up photos for people to look at but I had not really thought that we would create such a great space to communicate our inspirations, thoughts, and dreams.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:10 AM) :

I have been a reader and anonymous poster for a year and a half. I'm really grateful for the style topics you have raised, especially the ones that arise spontaneously, when you capture a look that surprises people. I love watching hundreds of people approve of a sartorialist one would never see in a magazine. On that note your blog is so current and inspiring that I rarely buy fashion magazines any more. To get back to the topic of this post, it has been really exciting to watch you form a career around something you love and do well. I look forward to your broadcasts from new places. Bravo, Sartorialist, bravo!

Scott:
Many congratulations and I, too, would encourage you to think about a book. Oft times during a day, we will take a break and look at what you have posted and it always sparks a good discussion. Sometimes about composition, sometimes about characters (our favorites are the senior men!), sometimes about age, sometimes about the influence of place on style-or indeed, style on place! Lots of good chapters there.

You and your readers have inspired me to "take another look around" and truly see on many a day. Hope all of these wonderful new opportunities do not cause you to forget to be blissful as you "follow your bliss".

Hi Sart:

At the risk of sounding trite, I find it inspiring that you found a way to "succeed" by doing something that you loved. Also, the thing that really separates your blog from the pack is the complete absence of snarkiness. It's quite the opposite actually: You come across as a guy who loves fashion -- and also likes people. I hope your Conde affiliation doesn't compromise your voice or exuberance.

A Fan

Big kisses to you, Sart. Keep it up. I will miss the clean look of this blog once it is cluttered with ads....but if it means more pictures and greater freedom for you, then I say yes. Yes!

I stumbled on this blog not long ago and am now totally hooked. i am a designer and it is a constant source of inspiration and so much more relevant to me than contrived fashion magazines. I especially love that you feature many shots of stylish 'mature' ladies. This is something you almost never see in mainstream media. Well done sir!

It breaks my heart that you will now accept advertisements. More and more, I feel surrounded by marketers on every side, to the point of claustrophobia. Your site has been such wonderful sanctuary from commercialism. I will probably stop visiting now.

I realize that you need to make a living and I am very happy that your work has landed you a job with a top agency. Best wishes for continued success in the future!

Well sorry but I don't wanna write my comment in english...

Yave*

The fact that you followed your heart and continue to do so is such a wonderful example. I am thrilled it has paid off. You are truly a worldwide success story. Your blog, and later your section in GQ, has made me realize how much I love fashion and has done more to develop my sense of fashion and style than other medium I've encountered... I'm glad you'll be expanding and that you have done it without compromising the quality I have come to expect when I check your blog every day.

I only hope that your newfound commercialism does not impede that passion, or restrict the enormous scope of style and beauty you showcase. I think that's what makes your site unique, the fact that it's not just glamourous model types, or partying fashionistas, and I sincerely hope this new path will only help you grow further.

I live in Cape Town - the bottom tip of Africa...your blog let's me see what's happening all over the world (well at least in the cool parts, where people dress well). Thank you for jazzing up my boring desk job and helping me justify spending my entire life on the internet (I'm a disgruntled web-designer) All the best!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 AM) :

I'M SO HAPPY!
You are my daily contact with the coolest samples of street-style...I introduced to your blog and, above all, to your unique "eye" all my best friend.
Thanks again!

Sorry I am late, I was on holiday, but I cannot stand expressing my congratulation for these great opportunities you achived!
Go on Sart!

ps: I hope that with help of your new partners sometime you will visit Eastern-Europe capitals as well! Maybe you would be surprised!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:39 AM) :

Sart,

I agree with anon 2:13, a book seems like the natural extention of your work.

Now, a Sartorialist coffee table book, that's one I will get in line for.

Congratulations. Like so many before me have said, your work is pure INSPIRATION.

Kisses.

Hearty congratulations Sart! You're an inspiration.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:49 AM) :

Congratulations! When you said you will be able to travel more, i couldn't help thinking you really should come to Helsinki sometimes, for example when visiting Stockholm as well. It's a small city, but individuality can be found more and more often. Especially at small clubs like La Perse etc. Shops like Daniel Palillo's Wunder, ivana Helsinki, Myymälä2 etc. make it possible to create so many different styles here as well!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:55 AM) :

Best of luck with all your future projects, if they are even half as successful as this website then that is a real triumph.

Blogger polina said ... (6:11 AM) :

way to go sart!you don't have to be ashamed to grow in this project,a little more money and opportunities won't make it less personal and unique. You are an example to people like me who work in the fashion business but have to make it to the end of the month anyway!

dear Sart, try to go to Morocco for one of your "style" trips!
I went in June for a music festival and was just amazed by the beautiful looks the young guys and girls are able to put together. A mix of traditional + Italian labels + pretty hippy: very inspiring!
I went to Essaouira for the Gnawa festival, but I imagine everywhere 20something hang around will be good ...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 AM) :

I LOVE the sartorialist :) Well Done, Great to know you might be coming to Asia. Come to Singapore!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:50 PM) :

yes. Business is required, even for art, so well done. I remember when WALLPAPER magazine was a tiny tiny independant and it sold too big too fast. I am cautiously optimistic that it's dulled eye and ad-bot features will not be your fate.

Blogger CynthiaC said ... (4:17 PM) :

comment on the site: it would be great if you permalinked to a page which just the one photo. anchors are wacky cross-browser, and it's hard to send links to friends. thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:49 PM) :

Congradulations!! You totally deserve it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 PM) :

Congratulations! Richly deserved success -- you have an terrific eye and technical photography skills. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Please always alert us to where it appears (or complete online portfolio, perhaps?) so we can track it.

Congrats on your obviously careful approach to your 'expansion', too.

Congratulations a million times over! So happy to hear the Sart-Empire is growing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 PM) :

I've always wished for you to come shoot in Asia! I was even thinking of getting a camera myself to do it but, now I'll leave it to the pros for a bit - till I get a good camera. You must come to my city in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! I wouldn't say it was the biggest fashion hub but it's fun to see how people dress up to their limits. There are Muslims here too who have a great sense of style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:30 PM) :

Sart., please use some of that ad money to spend time here in Tokyo. I think the everyday level of men's fashion here will blow you away.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 PM) :

Congratulations -- I'm thrilled that these new developments will free you to focus on your photography. Look forward to more inspirational work from you.

Blogger Sarcomical said ... (4:53 AM) :

i just want to say congratulations on all of it! i've been checking out your photos here for a few months and am in love with the way you capture people, not just their clothes. very inspiring. i simply LOVE your style.

best to you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:16 AM) :

After commenting once before, I had another thought... People who dresses with flair are almost presenting themselves as mobile works or art. Your subjects spend time on grooming and bear the expense of maintaining a stylish wardrobe, which they graciously exhibit to the public, at no charge. Until now, you have been a collaborator, contributing your camera skills on a pro bono publico basis. By accepting sponsors, you will be turning a profit on the freely-given artistic expression of others.

I am delighted that your hard work and excellent skills have earned you a job with top agency. You will now be fairly compensated for working with models who are also compensated and did not provide their own clothes. Congratulations! You deserve every penny!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:39 AM) :

Congrats!
ypu deserve all the best, good luck!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

Blogger hakka3 said ... (12:39 PM) :

I love The Sartorialist so much so i hope your good jobs.

Take care of your health.
I'm looking forward to new stage of your job.

Blogger onus1234 said ... (2:37 PM) :

Everyone else pretty much said everything I could say, but I'll repeat it nonetheless.

Congratulations!! I'm happy to see the success your blog has had. You've shown that if you just do what you love with passion, without regard for any fame and accolades you may receive, you CAN be really successful. Finally best of luck with your new endeavors!!

I'll still be coming back.

P.S. one advice though: I know you have money now, but please dont ever redesign the blog!!! lol The simplicity is what makes it so great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:57 PM) :

You have sold your soul.

Blogger Zélia Pinheiro said ... (4:04 PM) :

I love to watch your pics and read your comments. What I love most about it is that you truly love style in all its different sizes, shapes and budgets... Your blog is an inspiration! I am glad you are starting to have ads, it's only normal since you keep so many people logged on everyday... And I am sure you won't let them spoil the essence of this blog. Very happy for. Looking forward to the development of your activities and hoping they reach Lisbon.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:12 PM) :

Hey somehow my congrats didn't make it up. Just wanted to make sure you know how happy I am for you!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:59 AM) :

Sart, should you ever consider a redesign of the site,

could you consider a separate pop-up window for the large versions of the photos? That way, one could read the comments side-by-side with the photo.

(I sort of cheat now by simultaneously running two windows for your site. It works, but requires a little juggling!)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:42 AM) :

Ah, well, I'm happy your skills are getting their due recognition, but... Conde? I mean, not that 98% of your street subjects don't look like runway models already, but I fear it'll only be exacerbated now. You're now an official relative of AW's.

Well, good luck to you. Hope you go to Buenos Aires soon, some serious stylish people down there.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:10 AM) :
